A man in China refused to divorce his wife despite her filing the case twice, and forcefully carried her out of the courtroom on his shoulders. Shanghai Morning Post reported that the woman, Chen, and the man, Li, had been married for 20 years. They have two sons and a daughter.
Chen accused Li of domestic violence and filed for divorce. However, the court refused to grant the request citing a "deep emotional bond" between the couple. The court told the couple that there was still room for reconciliation and they should work on their marriage.
Meanwhile, Li was not in favour of divorcing his wife which seemed to have a bearing on the court's decision.
Chen was not happy with the judgement and appealed the case.
During the proceedings, Li became frustrated with everything that was going on. During one such emotionally unstable episode, he picked Chen on his shoulders and tried to dash out of the courtroom.
Chen became fearful and started screaming. The officials present at the scene stopped Li and reprimanded him.
However, despite this episode, the court did not grant Chen a divorce.
Instead, Li apologised for his actions in a letter and promised that he wouldn't repeat such behaviour.

He stated that he got afraid that he might get divorced, and so in a fit of emotional agitation, tried to carry his wife out of the courtroom.
"In my emotional agitation, I mistakenly thought I was about to divorce the appellant, so I carried her out of the courtroom, ignoring the instructions of the judges and court officers who tried to stop my extreme actions," he wrote.
He further stated that he realises "the seriousness" of his mistake and "its negative impact".
"I guarantee that I will never repeat this mistake in the future," he wrote.
Chen agreed to give Li another chance following mediation by the court.
People raised concerns over the court's decision to not grant Chen a divorce, especially after witnessing what he did in full public view.
One user wrote on social media, "If he can carry her out of the courtroom in public, what might he do in private?"
