This is also true for Hong Kong, where the nation's health chief has now urged HongKongers to "stare" at people, who light up in public.</p>

<p>Speaking at a Legislative Council on Friday, Lo Chung-mau said, "When the members of the public see people smoking in non-smoking areas, even if no law enforcement officers can show up immediately, we can stare at the smokers."</p>

<p>According to the latest study, this phenomenon is called “subsurface heat islands” and is caused by heat released by buildings and subterranean transportation such as subway systems.</p>

<p>The research argues that rising temperatures are causing land to undergo massive changes in urban areas and that it could adversely affect buildings and infrastructure, threatening long-term durability.</p>

<p>“The denser the city, the more intense is underground climate change,” said lead study author Alessandro Rotta Loria, an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, reports CNN.</p>

<p>He said that soil, rocks and construction materials are being impacted by temperature variations.</p>

<p>For example, the ground underneath buildings can contract when heated, causing unwanted settlement, Loria said.</p>

<p>“Deformations caused by underground climate change are relatively small in magnitude, but they continuously develop,” he said.</p>

<p>“Over time, they can become very significant for the operational performance of civil infrastructure like building foundations, water retaining walls, tunnels and so on.”</p>

<h2><strong>New York was also found to be sinking</strong></h2>

<p>Notably, it comes after scientists announced New York may be sinking under the weight of its own buildings back in May —with 1.68 trillion pounds pushing down on the ground beneath.</p>

<p>The study, which was published this month in the Communications Engineering journal, came to the conclusion after observing the land changes for the past 25 years.</p>

<p>The researchers installed 150 temperature sensors across the Chicago Loop district, both above and below ground, and in a variety of places such as basements, tunnels and parking garages.</p>

<p>Sensors were also placed in Grant Park along Lake Michigan to compare temperatures from an unbuilt area with no excess heat coming from construction or transportation.</p>

<p>The data that was collected for the last three years showed that the ground under the Loop was up to 18 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) warmer than the ground beneath the park.</p>

<p>“And the consequence of that is that at least a portion of the heat will diffuse towards the ground over time, and that’s the origin of the phenomenon,” Loria said.</p>

<p>Loria notes that underground climate change can cause issues such as groundwater contamination or problems with underground railways by making tracks prone to buckling or causing passengers to become ill due to excessive heat.</p>

Not even in his wildest dreams would he have imagined that one day he will become a social media sensation, a fashion icon and a franchise owner in London City.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The photographer, Javeria Ali casually clicked his picture back in October 2016 when Arshad was only 16 years old. Javeria shared his picture on her Instagram account with the caption, “Hot Tea”. She loves to do karaoke. So we figured, why not have her sing?" He added that he wanted Krystina awake and talking so that he could tell if the surgery was having any impact on her.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Vied, who now teaches little kids, told Newsweek that she had her first seizure 11 years ago when she was 19 and that it began affecting her quality of life. She recalled the&nbsp;incident when she was working at the front desk at a clothing store and went into a seizure behind the register. Following this incident, she suffered from major anxiety imagining if&nbsp;she would have another seizure in public. After what Vied described as an embarrassing event, she visited an epileptologist and was sent for MRI. Dr Patel then discovered a tumour in her brain near her speech-motor areas.</p>

<p>"The tumour's mass effect was pressing on the speech areas of her brain and triggering abnormal electrical impulses, leading to her seizures."</p>

<p>When asked why Moana, Vied&nbsp;said, "They originally wanted me to sing 'Sweet Caroline' but I didn't know the words, so they asked me what I would like to sing. I honestly do not know what made me pick Moana. I am a huge Disney fan.&nbsp;I think my mind just thought of something I was listening to recently."</p>

<p>Clarifying the reason for asking Vied to sing, Dr Patel said, "Singing helps capture a multitude of different speech components while making the testing an easier experience for the patient." He added that it not only helps to test the patient's motor component, but also the cadence, rhythm, pitch, and other subtle areas."</p>

This has sparked a debate on China's "35-year-old crisis", with some labelling this discrimination towards a particular age demographic. However, others are of the opinion that this is justified. <h2><strong>A dearth of hostels</strong></h2>

<p>In a now-viral post, a user complained that many youth hostels in the Chinese capital Beijing are refusing accommodation to customers over 35 years of age. The user alleged that he faced quite a struggle looking for hostels without such restrictions.</p>

<p>Apparently, he was informed of the age restriction over the phone and hostel owners defended this constraint, citing safety concerns.</p>

<h2><strong>Safety, peace and more</strong></h2>

<p>Sixth Tone, which does extensive coverage of all things China, reports that a search across major online travel-based platforms reveals that many youth hostels in Beijing now impose an age restriction.</p>

<p>Reportedly, many of them have set the age requirement between 18 and 40 years. Additionally, some have raised this restriction and cater to people till the ages of 45 to 50, but many have drawn the line at 35 years.</p>

<p>And it's not just the capital Beijing. Similar restrictions are in place in other major Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Guangzhou.</p>

<p>Dudhsagar Falls (literal translation 'A sea of milk') is a favourite tourist spot for someone who doesn't mind a bit of trekking. The waterfalls, together with the lush greenery that surrounds it, make for a scenic location. The waterfalls become especially beautiful during the ongoing Monsoon season.</p>

<p>The visitors to the falls often walk along tracks of the South Western Railway line to reach Dudhsagar after getting off at Collem station in South Goa.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, Goa Police, the Forest Department, along with the Railways have now issued orders banning trekking during monsoon to prevent the likelihood of mishaps.</p>

<p>Just last week, the Goa Police banned people from visiting waterfalls in the state after two deaths at Mainapi waterfall in Sanguem taluka.</p>

<p>The South Western Railway tweeted, urging people not to walk along the tracks.</p>

<p>"We urge you to savour the beauty of Dudhsagar Falls from within your coach. Walking on/along tracks not only endangers your own safety but is also an offence under sections 147, 159 of Railway Act. It can also endanger the safety of trains," it tweeted.</p>

The Italian police have launched an investigation following the surfacing of a video where a teenage girl from Switzerland can be seen carving the letter "N" into a wall of the 2,000-year-old monument.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The girl was captured carving her calligraphy skills by a tourist guide who immediately called security at the site. David Battaglino, the tour guide said he had been showing a group around when someone directed his attention to the girl.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"After a few seconds, my group applauded me. To her, in English, I said, ‘Do you want applause?’ The young girl understood that she had ended up in the crosshairs of those who protect art and turned away to go toward her family," Battaglino told the Italian newspaper La Republica.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the incident, Battaglino approached the girl's parents about what their daughter had done. However, the parents told him: "She's just a little girl, she wasn't doing anything wrong."</p>

<p>The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media with users questioning the girl and her actions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Second person caught defacing the Colosseum in only a matter of a few weeks. What is wrong with people!" said one netizen, while another added, "I don’t think she should go to prison. But she should have a fine and also Community service."</p>

<p>Kale, an endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle, recently underwent a CT scan at an Alabama hospital in the US as part of his ongoing medical treatment.</p>

<p>As per the museum, "The CT scan is the best tool to assess the improvement of Kale’s deep infections of his shell."</p>

<h2><strong>A grumpy turtle and a CT scan</strong></h2>

<p>To address this need, they approached the radiology team at Decatur Morgan Hospital for assistance. The hospital's radiology team was up for the challenge, and Kale became their first animal patient.</p>

<p>Apparently, during the CT scan, Kale expressed his displeasure at being at the doctor's, due to which veterinarians had to hold him still during the procedure.</p>

Alabama hospital's first animal patient, a sea turtle, gets CT scan; Images go viral

<p>A 68-year-old woman, who was on board a small aeroplane, took control of the aircraft and crash-landed it on an island without any landing gear after the pilot fell ill mid air, said police.<br />

The crash took place near Martha's Vineyard Airport in West Tisbury, Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon. During the final approach of the plane, the male pilot, aged 79, suffered an emergency, informed Massachusetts State Police.<br />

"The crash resulted in a hard landing outside the runway that caused the aircraft's left wing to break in half," The Washington Post quoted the state police as saying. Local police stated that the flight landed on its belly without any landing gear and the pilot was extricated from the plane.</p>

<p>The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) workers tried to resuscitate the whales that were low down in the water. While one got away, the other was restranded and died later, as did three others, leaving 12 still alive - eight adults and four calves.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite their best intentions, the rescue workers, however, could not get the rest of them back into the waters.&nbsp;Taking the difficult but compassionate decision, the rescue operators decided to euthanise the remaining whales on welfare grounds.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“At about 3.30 pm, the local vet along with the coastguard, fire and rescue, and a forensics vet came to the conclusion that the shallow beach and rough wave conditions made it too unsafe to refloat the remaining animals,"&nbsp;BDMLR said, adding that it was an "incredibly complex rescue".&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports, due to the remoteness of the island, the medical and rescue workers had to drive up to five miles to get signals in order to communicate with rescue coordinators. It didn't help the cause that the BDMLR was&nbsp;"desperately short of response equipment".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Using state-of-the-art modern equipment and technology, archaeologists in Southern Mexico have unearthed an intricate structure of chambers and passageways, hidden beneath an ancient church, representing an 'entrance' to the underworld.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The labyrinth was discovered at the Mitla site, an important archaeological site related to the Zapotec culture, located in the state of Oaxaca.&nbsp;Zapotecs inhabited the region for over 2,200 years until the arrival of the Spanish in 1521.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The discovery was made possible by a joint venture between the Mexican National Institute of History and Anthropology (INAH), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Association for Archaeological Research and Exploration and the ARX&nbsp;Project.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After obtaining the data and combing it, the team managed to produce a comprehensive map of what lay 5-8 metres (16-26 feet) below the church's surface. The Catholic building was built after missionaries arrived in the area and conceals the entrance to the now-mapped forbidden underground network.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, the Zapotecs were firm believers in the underworld. They were polytheistic and believed in ritual, including when someone died.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Evidence of the hidden temple</strong></h2>

<p>According to experts, when the Zapotecs placed the buildings underneath, they would have been used as a religious temple, known as the Lyobaa - the 'place of rest'. The ruin was believed to be a portal to the realm of the deceased. It is&nbsp;suspected that the entrance to the underground passages may be located beneath the church’s main altar, which forced the church representatives to close it, in order to keep the 'satan' away.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The missionaries who built the church over it documented that they had indeed sealed the entrance to the&nbsp;Lyobaa.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“In 1674, Dominican father Francisco de Burgoa described the exploration of the Mitla ruins and their subterranean chambers by a group of Spanish missionaries. Burgoa’s account describes an expansive subterranean temple consisting of interconnected chambers, housing the tombs of high priests and kings of Teozapotlán,"&nbsp;the ARX&nbsp;Project noted in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tim Shaddock, an Australian sailor who was stranded in the Pacific Ocean with his dog and survived by only eating raw fish and drinking rainwater for months has been rescued and is in a stable condition, doctors said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>51-year-old&nbsp;Shaddock, hailing from Sydney had embarked upon a 6,000 km-long (3,728-mile) trip to French Polynesia from Mexico's La Paz alongside his dog Bella in April. However, a few weeks after the start of the journey, their boat was caught in a ferocious storm. Although the duo&nbsp;survived the rough weather, the boat was irreparably damaged, leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Having spent two months out in nothingness, they were finally rescued by a trawler last week when a helicopter spotted them. The doctors on the tuna trawler, upon examining&nbsp;Shaddock, said he had "normal vital signs".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It's a combination of luck and skill.&nbsp;And also knowing for example, as Tim did, that during the heat of the day, you need to protect yourself because the last thing you want when you're in danger of becoming dehydrated is to be sweating,"&nbsp;Professor Mike Tipton, an ocean survival expert told the publication.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tipton added that having Bella on board may have helped Shaddock brave two months on the boat.&nbsp;</p>

<p>August 1 is even more special for Ameer and Khudeja as it’s also their wedding anniversary. They were married on this date in 1991, one year before their eldest daughter Sindhoo was born. Ameer said he was surprised and delighted after Sindhoo was born on August 1, sharing the same birthday as him and his wife.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The twin boys Ammar and Ahmar were born in 2003, five years after twin girls Sasui and Sapna were born. This is the fifth verified example of a mother producing two sets of twins with coincident birthdays, equalling the record for the most twin siblings born on the same day.</p>

<p>The Mangi family children also hold the record for the most siblings born on the same day. This record was previously held by five children from the Cummins family in the United States- who were all born on February 20.&nbsp;</p>

Indian rescuers save elite bull worth over $120,000 from flood near Delhi

<p>A group of divers had an unexpected encounter when they came across a massive oarfish with unique openings in its body.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This rare fish, believed to be a harbinger of earthquakes, was spotted near Taiwan, and a video that captured the sighting went viral on social media.</p>

<p>The Guinness Book of World Records recognises the oarfish as the longest bony fish currently known to exist.</p>

<p>However, the divers believed that the fish's presence was not a good sign for its well-being.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Diving instructor Wang Cheng-Ru told Jam Press publication: "It must have been dying, so it swam into shallower waters."</p>

<p>A complicated and unusual surgery, which has been dubbed as a "miracle", was carried out by doctors on a 12-year-boy during which they reattached his head back to his neck after he got involved in an accident with a car while riding a bicycle, reported The Times of Israel.<br />

The boy, named Suleiman Hassan, went through an "internal decapitation" due to which his skull was detached from the top vertebrae of his spine after the accident, according to the news outlet. Scientifically, the condition is called 'bilateral atlanto occipital joint dislocation'.<br />

After the boy met with the accident, he was airlifted to Hadassah Medical Centre where he went for emergency surgery immediately. According to the doctors, his head was "almost completely detached from the base of his neck".</p>

<p>"Our ability to save the child was thanks to our knowledge and the most innovative technology in the operating room," he stated, adding that the doctor's team "fought for the boy's life". The surgeons also accepted that the recovery of the boy was no less than a miracle as there were&nbsp;only&nbsp;50 per cent chances of his survival.<br />

The operation happened last month, however, the results were not made public by the doctors till July. Recently, the hospital discharged Hassan with a cervical splint and the hospital stated that his recovery will still be monitored by the doctors.<br />
