<p>In what can be called a double treat for the sky gazers, the night sky was filled with aurora borealis as the Perseid meteor shower started and meteors passed through the sky on August 12 (Monday).</p>

<p>The people came out of their houses and travelled to darker areas to witness the marvellous show in the sky.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the videos and photos captured, pink and green hues were seen filling the night sky as numerous meteors passed through it. The netizens captured the meteors and the auroras and shared them on platform X.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The enmity between snakes and mongooses has been known for centuries, and their fights have remained popular among people but are rarely seen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In yet another incident raising safety concerns over women using public washrooms, a Bengaluru woman on Saturday (Aug 10)&nbsp;claimed&nbsp;that she found a phone on recording mode inside a dustbin at a well-known coffee outlet. The woman shared the horrifying experience on social media, saying the phone belonged to an employee of the outlet. A complaint was registered and police are believed to have opened an investigation into the matter.</p>

<p>A police officer in the north&nbsp;Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has been suspended after he was caught demanding five kilogrammes of potato as a bribe from a farmer. As it turns out the word "potato" was used as a code for the bribe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident took place in the Kannauj district of the state where sub-inspector Ramkripal Singh, posted at the&nbsp;Bhawalpur Chapunna Chowki under the Saurikh police station demanded the bribe, which was recorded and the audio of the same has since gone viral on social media.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the viral audio, the farmer expresses his inability to fulfil the demand for 'five&nbsp;kg potatoes' made by the police officer and offers two kg instead.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police officer then gets angry and stresses his original demand. The final deal was then struck at three&nbsp;kg.</p>

<p>"In the above case, SI Ramkripal has been suspended with immediate effect on 07.08.2024 by Superintendent of Police, Kannauj after being found guilty prima facie. He has been suspended with immediate effect. Departmental proceedings have been initiated."</p>

<p>According to various passages in the New Testament, Christ preached to his followers and healed those who were sick in a synagogue which was located in the ancient&nbsp;Israeli city of Chorazin.</p>

<p>A team of archaeologists excavated the synagogue - which was found in 1905 - and stumbled upon the ruins of an even older temple which was buried beneath the synagogue.</p>

<p>The synagogue was built in 380AD and it is suspected that the temple hiding beneath the floor was built even before that.</p>

<p>According to the experts, Jesus Christ walked on the path which led to the temple more than 2,000 years ago.</p>

<p>"This is a groundbreaking discovery. I have been excavating all over [the globe], and, for me, it's definitely one of the most important excavations I've ever directed," Achia Cohen-Tavor, lead archaeologist&nbsp;from Dagesh Tourist Archaeology, said.</p>

<p>Cohen-Tavor, along with his team, moved the giant boulders which were kept in specific arrangements in the third-century ruins and removed the floor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The team removed the giant rocks and discovered pottery, coins and cookware which was nestled between them.</p>

<p>"I can't date the rock itself when it was put here," said&nbsp;Cohen-Tavor, in a&nbsp;YouTube&nbsp;video in which he spoke about the find.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"What I can date is the pottery and, hopefully, coins coming from the between the rocks and definitely what's beneath them. Whatever&nbsp;I get from between those stones&nbsp;would be dating the construction of the synagogue here," he added.</p>

During their investigation, police are believed to have seized over 18 tonnes of bones and more than 34,000 semi-finished and finished products.</p>

<p>The case has put the spotlight back on the state-run funeral industry, which was previously in the news for back-to-back arrests over corruption allegations.</p>
