A Chinese woman delayed a flight by an hour and caused a ruckus after a flight attendant asked her to place her designer handbag under her seat, and finally, she had to be deboarded from the plane.

The incident was shared on the social media platformDouyin and received fourmillion views.

The passenger, who reported the incident on social media, said that the woman was travelling in economy class and wished to place her Louis Vuitton handbag next to her and not under the seat.

The flight was departing from the Chongqing municipality's airport in southwestern China and was forced to go back to the boarding gate because of the ruckus.

The police then escorted the female passenger off the plane.

In China, a Louis Vuitton handbag costs around US$3,000 and an economy-class ticket on the China Express Airlines plane from Chongqing to Hebei costs 800 yuan (US$110).

Here's how netizens reacted to the incident

The incident led to a heated debate on social media platforms as some slammed the passenger while others found the flight attendant overzealous in performing her duties.

“She valued the bag more than her life,” wrote one person on Weibo.

Another user wrote on Douyin, “The flight attendant could have offered her a bag to put her handbag in. Is it really necessary to waste an hour and kick her off the plane?”

One social media user said that she has seen many economy class passengers placing their small bags on the seat when the flight takes off and generally, are not asked to remove them.

“The flight attendant did not insist on the rule for nothing. The woman should value her safety and that of other passengers rather than the bag,” wrote another user.

On the flight, the passengers need to place their bags under the seat in front of them to ensure that if the plane is hit by turbulence there is no risk of them getting thrown around and hurt people.

The LVMH luxury group's CFO Jean-Jacques Guiony said that “the Chinese customer is holding up quite well” since a lot of them travel to Japan to purchase luxury goods where it is available at cheaper rates.
