Taipei, Taiwan
A weird divorce case was filed by a couple in Taiwan mentioning that the wife demanded cash from her husband every time he wished to have sex with her.
The divorce plea was opposed by the wife when it was filed by the husband. The court granted him divorce on the grounds that his wife refused to have sex with him, reported Taiwan television station SETN.
In 2014, the couple got married and had two children. The man said that his wife rationed sex to once every month in 2017, and later started rejecting sex completely in 2019, without giving any reason.
The man said that the wife informed their relatives that the husband was “too fat” and “incompetent”.
In 2021, the husband filed for divorce but the wife promised that she would work on their relationship, so the man decided to withdraw the lawsuit and also took the significant step of registering their property in her name.
However, the husband complained that his wife continued to abuse him emotionally and also demanded a fee of NT$500 (US$15) every time he wanted to have sex with her.

The husband again filed for divorce this year and said that they have not spoken to each other for two years and have only been speaking to each other through a messaging app when they needed to.
The couple had also tried marriage counselling but that did not help. The court granted divorce to the couple as they found their relationship “cold and difficult to fix”.
However, the wife did not want the divorce and hence, filed an appeal in the higher court which was rejected.
Demanding sex fees from husbands a norm in Taiwan?
This is not the first such case to have been reported in Taiwan.
A similar case had emerged in Taiwan in 2014 in which a wife charged her husband NT$2,000 (US$60) for sex and also charged a fee for chats and meals.
The wife said that she charged her husband - who was a truck driver - because he did not make any financial contribution to the family.

The couple's children also followed their mother's footsteps and decided to charge their father if he wanted to speak to them.
After the couple's case reached the police station, the husband decided to give his family NT$20,000 every month (US$600).
In Taiwan, the divorce rate was 0.218 per cent last year, which is one of the highest rates in Asia.
