Story highlights

Ajit Pawar, who died in a plane crash on Wednesday, is survived by his wife, Sunetra Pawar and their two sons, Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar. Both the sons of Ajit Pawar remained in public attention at different points, but they largely followed different paths in their lives.

Late Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar died after a chartered Learjet 45XR crashed while landing at Baramati airport in Pune due to a technical failure. He is survived by his wife, Sunetra Pawar, and their two sons, Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar. Both the sons of Ajit Pawar remained in public attention at different points, but they largely followed different paths in their lives.

Who is Parth Pawar

Parth Pawar, the elder son of Ajit Pawar, briefly launched his political career in 2019, when he contested the Lok Sabha election from the Maval constituency. After his participation, Parth drew significant attention, thereby giving the Pawar family a long political legacy in Maharashtra. However, Parth lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election by a wide margin, marking the end of politics.

Since that period, Parth Pawar has largely kept himself away from active political roles, holding neither any elected office nor party position. His public presence has been minimal, with no signals of a return to electoral politics. While his name has occasionally surfaced in connection with business entities linked to land transactions that came under official scrutiny, he was not accused in any major criminal case and continued to maintain a low political profile.

Who is Jay Pawar

Ajit Pawar’s younger son, Jay Pawar, has also remained distant from electoral politics and keeps a relatively private public life. He is believed to be engaged in business activities and splits his time between Mumbai and Baramati. Unlike Parth, he has never contested an election or formally entered politics.

Jay is occasionally seen backing family members during campaigns and at public functions but has steered clear of sustained political involvement. Although there has been sporadic speculation about his political prospects due to the Pawar family’s strong base in Baramati, no concrete steps or announcements have followed.

Parth and Jay Pawar are members of one of Maharashtra’s most influential political families. Their father, Ajit Pawar, a multiple-time MLA from Baramati, was been a dominant figure in state politics and played a significant role in government formation and administration over the years.
