A woman was arrested for throwingmilkshake on Brexit campaigner and Reform UK party leader Nigel Farage’s face, on Tuesday (June 4). The incident took place as campaigning was going on in full swing in the United Kingdom with less than a month left before the general elections.

The incident took place on veteran Eurosceptic’s first day of campaigning in Clacton, a constituency in Essex as he launched his eighth bid to become a member of parliament.

Farage was leaving a pub and was surrounded by dozens of people when a woman walked up to him and threw what is reported to be a banana milkshake on the British politician’s face.

‘Just felt like it’

The Essex police arrested the 25-year-old on suspicion of assault after the incident. As the police were detaining the woman, officers also arrested a man on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, in a separate incident.

When asked by reporters why she threw the milkshake at the Reform UK leader, the 25-year-old said “just felt like it,” according to British media reports.

Notably, this is not the first time that Farage has had a milkshake thrown at him. In 2019, the former Brexit Party leader had a banana and salted caramel milkshake thrown at him in Newcastleduring the European elections.

Farage, who looked annoyed after the incident, later made light of the situation and posted a video of himself carrying a milkshake. “My milkshake brings all the people to the rally,” he said in the video.

‘Will not be bullied’

The now former leader of Reform UK, Richard Tice, speaking about the incident said that the party “will not be bullied”.

“The juvenile moron who threw a drink over Nigel has just gained us hundreds of thousands more votes…We will not be bullied or threatened off the campaign trail,” Tice said.

Farage recently announcedthat he would participate in the upcoming electionas Reform UK’s leader backtracking on his previous statement when he would not run for office and support Tice’s party in campaigning.

The veteran Eurosceptic has indicated that his goal was to effectively take over British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative party which is reportedly on course to gain the lowest total number of seats in the UK parliament in more than a century.

A recent opinion poll by YouGov has suggested that Farage’s takeover of the rival right-wing party will further hit the Conservative vote.
