The beautiful and mesmerising Northern Lights never disappoint people, when they sparkle across the sky. But the green aurora dazzles them even more when it is captured in the night sky amid the darkness of the space.

The International Space Station (ISS) recorded the natural phenomena when their spacecraft passed by the Northern Lights at night time. This video of the celestial dance of the green aurora was captured on the social media platform Instagram.

“Nature’s fireworks,” wrote ISS, while describing the stunning look of the Northern Lights. It added that the video was recorded when the space station soared nearly 250 miles above Earth.

Explaining the phenomena, the ISS wrote, “These spectacular light shows occur when charged particles from the Sun collide with Earth’s magnetosphere. The result is glowing auroras that are constantly moving, creating an array of bands that fold, swirl, and ripple."

“While often spotted from the ground near the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the orbiting laboratory’s unique vantage point gives low Earth orbit crews a front-row seat to the colourful spectacle,” the space station added.

Since the video was shared, it received more than 4.7 lakh views and over 34,000 likes. Several comments were made by the people on the post.

“These views never get old,” wrote an Instagram user. “Truly the most beautiful, jaw-dropping feature in nature to witness," added another.

Meanwhile, one user commented, “Simply wow" and a fourth one wrote, “Magical lights that invite you to a world of beauty.”

The ISS is a large spacecraft which orbits around Earth and provides people with a never-seen perspective of our planet and the universe.

It is a “home where crews of astronauts and cosmonauts live” and also contains a science laboratory where research is carried out on topics related to space exploration.
