Video: Saudia plane catches fire after landing at Pakistan's Peshawar airport

The landing gear of a Saudia flight flying from Riyadh to Pakistan's Peshawar on Thursday (Jul 11) caught fire soon after landing at Bacha Khan International Airport. The controllers on the ground informed the pilot and rescue teams, after which fire extinguishers rushed to put out the flames. No casualties were reported and all passengers and crew were evacuated safely. A few people sustained minor injuries andwere said to bereceiving medical care.

Saudia Airlines later issued a statement, saying the aircraft was now undergoing technical evaluation.

"Saudia clarifies that its aircraft, flying from Riyadh to Peshawar on flight SV792, experienced smoke emanating from one of the tires during landing at Peshawar International Airport in Pakistan. The aircraft was immediately stopped and the relevant authorities were notified. All guests and crew were safely evacuated through the evacuation slide. The aircraft is now undergoing technical evaluation by specialists...," the airline said.

A total of 276 passengers and 21 crew members were on boardthe plane, who later used the emergency slide.

The aircraft is a seven-year-old Airbus A330-300.

Pakistan national daily DAWN quoted Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson Saifullah as saying, "The fire tenders acted in time and immediately controlled the fire in the landing gear, saving the aircraft from a major accident.”

The airport operations are not affected and flights are expected to continue as per schedule.
