The firefighting and rescue teams of the town reached the Butherus-Maser & Love funeral home at 11.43 am (local time) after a caller informed them that they were performing CPR on a woman earlier believed to be the corpse of Constance Glantz.
Two hours prior, staff at the nursing home had pronounced Glantz dead and said that she had passed away after entering hospice, as per Lancaster County’s chief deputy sheriff Ben Houchin.
While making funeral preparations for Glantz, a staff member noticed she was alive and called 911.
She was later admitted back to the hospital and her family was also informed. The woman remained alive for several hours buteventually died later in the day, said the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office.
The officials are now investigating the incident, however, Houchin said that no criminal intent was found by the investigators.
In a press conference, Houchin said, "This is a very unusual case. Been doing this 31 years, and nothing like this has ever gotten to this point before."

He further explained that Glantz's death had been anticipated.
"A physician had seen her in the last seven days, and the physician was willing to sign the death certificate, and... there was nothing suspicious at the time of the death," he added.
Houchin said that she was pronounced dead for a second time at around 16:00 local time on Tuesday (June 4) and a post-mortem examination results will be available after 12 weeks.
“At this point, we have not been able to find any criminal intent by the nursing home, but the investigation is ongoing,” said Houchin.
“I’m sure the nursing home and everybody else is going to be taking a look into what has happened, and I’m sure they’ll look and see if new protocols need to be made and if they were all followed. The funeral home did absolutely nothing wrong. They are the ones who found that she was still alive," he added.
