Nepal’s 18-year-old Nima Rinji Sherpa has set a new world record as the youngest person to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres.
Nima's journey to the top
Nima himself shared the moment on Instagram, confirming that he and Pasang Nurbu Sherpa summited Shishapangma, which stands at 8,027 metres, at around 6:00 am China Standard Time (3:30 am IST). “Today, as I stand atop my 14th 8000-metre peak, I dedicate this world record to my project, #SherpaPower,” Nima posted.
The expedition organiser, Seven Summit Treks, also announced Nima's feat on Instagram, stating, "Nima Rinji Sherpa, at the remarkable age of 18 years and 5 months, has made history by becoming the youngest person to summit all 14 of the world's highest peaks over 8000m. Accompanied by his climbing partner Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, who also completed the 14x8000ers. Nima reached the summit of Mount Shishapangma (8,027m) early this morning at 6:05 am (China local time)."

The record-breaking climb
His journey to this remarkable record began in September 2022 when he first summited Mount Manaslu at 8,163 metres. The young climber completed his mission in just over two years. The Chinese authorities granted him permits for the final climb in September 2024, allowing him to make this final push.

List of summits achieved by Nima Rinji Sherpa
According to the Department of Tourism, Nima's list of accomplishments includes summiting Mount Manaslu (8,163m) on September 30, 2022, Mount Everest (8,848.86m) on May 24, 2023, Mount Lhotse (8,516m) on May 23, 2024, and Mount Nanga Parbat (8,126m) on June 26, 2023, among others. He also successfully scaled Mount K2 (8,611m) on July 27, 2023, and most recently, Mount Shishapangma (8,027m) on October 9, 2024.
