As the intensity of the monsoon rains is increasing, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rains in North and Northeast India.

After a long spell of dry and hot weather, Delhi-NCR has witnessed rains and relief from the heat over the last week. It is expected that Delhi will observe rainfall between July 11 and 13. Alerts have been issued for the rising water level in the Yamuna River during the monsoon rains.

The weather is expected to remain cloudy in the national capital today with light rainfall. Maximum is expected to settle around 36 degrees Celsius and minimum around 26 degrees Celsius.

An 'orange alert' for heavy rains has been issued for parts of Uttar Pradesh as IMD predicts isolated very heavy rainfall in the region. Bihar is to witness extremely heavy rains on July 11, according to the weather department. 

Mumbai rains

The IMD has issued a 'yellow alert' for several parts of Mumbai after the city witnessed torrential rains on Monday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall alert has been issued in the city for the next three days, July 12 to 14.

On Monday, heavy rainfall lashed Mumbai, disrupting public services due to waterlogging. Bus services, local trains, and flight operations were affected. The schools and colleges also remained closed.

Other parts of the country

According to IMD, several states are expected to witness rainfall activity until July 15. Heavy rains are expected over Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Light rains are expected in Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and central parts of the country.

A yellow alert has been issued in Himachal Pradesh for July 11 and 12 as IMD forecasts lightning, thunderstorms, and strong winds, while sporadic rains are to continue till July 15.
