According to Microsoft's website, blue screen errors happen when there is a serious issue and lead to Windows either shutting down or restarting immediately. Such errors happen because of either software or hardware problems.

In this situation, Crowdstrike has accepted that the problem has occurred because they rolled out an update on Friday (July 19).

"CrowdStrike is aware of reports of crashes on Windows hosts related to the Falcon Sensor… Symptoms include hosts experiencing a bugcheck\blue screen error related to the Falcon Sensor. Our Engineering teams are actively working to resolve this issue and there is no need to open a support ticket." stated the company.

To solve the Blue Screen error, one needs to boot their Windows into Safe mode or in the Windows recovery environment, according to Microsoft.

Follow these steps to solve the error:

  • Follow the path - C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory
  • Locate the file which has the name “C-00000291*.sys"
  • Delete this file
  • Then boot the windows normally

If this doesn't help, users can try updating Windows through Windows Update. Further, additional assistance can be taken or one can try to restore Windows to a previous restore point.

In the Get Help app, there is the Blue Screen Troubleshooter which can also provide guidance.
