India and Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, on Sunday, created history as he became the first Indian bowler to reach 300 wickets in T20s. Chahal's four-wicket haul for 17 runs in four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad also helped his team register a 72-run win.

The leggie dismissed SRH's Harry Brook on the last ball of seventh over to reach the milestone. He now has 303 wickets in 265 matches. Apart from Brook, Chahal dismissed Mayank Agrawal, Adil Rashid and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as well.

The Royals' spinner also surpassed Aussie Andrew Tye on all-time highest T20 wicket-taker list to claim the 15th position. Tye, notably, has 301 T20 wickets in 215 matches. The leader, however, is West Indian DJ Bravo with 615 wickets in 558 matches, followed by Gujarat Titans and Afghanistan's ace spinner Rashid Khan with 530 wickets, West Indian Sunil Narine with 479 wickets, South African Imran Tahir with 469 wickets and Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan wit 451 wickets.

In the match, Royals lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Rajasthan made SRH play instantly with their openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal hitting 54 each. Skipper Sanju Samson also played a blistering knock of 32-ball 55 as Royals posted 203/5 in their 20 overs.

SRH's chase got derailed in the very first only after Trent Boult bowled a double-wicket maiden to start off the second innings. SRH could never come back from that and could manage only 131/8 in their 20 overs. The only highlight for SRH was last couple of overs of their batting when pacer Umran Malik and batsman Abdul Samad hit some huge blows and added 37 runs for the ninth wicket.

IPL 2023: RR's Yuzvendra Chahal creates history, becomes first Indian to reach THIS milestone

India is clearly on top of the mighty Aussies in the ongoing Test series and is looking strong in their quest of clean-sweeping them as well. With the hosts already retaining the Border-Gavaskar series, there is still much to look forward to in the remaining two Tests. Now with the 50-over series also in sight, the ODI-bound players have already started their training. While many of those selected for the three-match ODIs are part of the Test team, the ones who are not including Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Umran Malik among others will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for a fitness and skill camp.

As reported by the Times of India (TOI), Chahal and Umran have already reached the NCA while Hardik, who was busy with his wedding functions, will join the fellow squad members including Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar.

"Fast bowler Umran Malik and senior leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal are already in Bengaluru for some quality net sessions before the ODI leg starts in Mumbai from March 17. They would be doing their fitness programmes as well as bowling full tilt under the supervision of NCA coaches," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity as quoted by the Times of India.

Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series will begin on March 17th with the first match slated to take place in Mumbai while Vizag (on the 19th) and Chennai (22nd) will host the remaining two games.

India is currently 2-0 up in the four-match series with the third Test scheduled to start on March 1st in Indore. Brimming with confidence, the Indian team ended the Aussies’ hopes of retaining the Border-Gavaskar series within six days only as both Tests finished within three days each. Of the 40 wickets that fell, 32 went to the spinners which also saw Ravindra Jadeja pick his career-best figures of seven for 42 in the second innings of the Delhi Test. Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel also made inroads with their performances from both bat and ball. While captain Rohit Sharma is leading the runs chart so far, thanks to his match-winning maiden Border-Gavaskar series hundred (120) in the Nagpur match.

ODI-bound players including Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal to train in NCA ahead of Australia One-Dayers

Ace Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t play a single match in the T20 World Cup in Australia this year despite being the team’s go-to-spinner in the shortest format throughout 2022. He alongside seamer Harshal Patel were the only two members of the 15-man squad who didn’t feature in any of the games. A decision that made quit a few eyebrows rise considering how big a match-winner Chahal is in white-ball cricket, had its repercussions as India bowed out of the T20 World Cup in the semi final clash against England by 10 wickets.

Even in Dubai last year, Chahal didn’t get picked in the squad for the World Cup while this time despite getting named in the 15-man squad the leg-spinner didn’t make a single appearance.

Speaking to India Today in a recent catch up, the leg-spinner briefed on how he felt about his omission from the playing XI, and also revealed what conversation he had with the captain Rohit Sharma regarding this.

“It's not an individual game. Every team has their own set of combination. And then I saw Ashwin and Axar performing well...those things happen in life. I just knew that if I get an opportunity I have to be ready and coach and Rohit bhai had clarified that to me,” Chahal said.

After facing two back-to-back blows in terms of not getting picked in the XI for T20 World Cup, Chahal is optimistic about retaining his place in the side for the 50-over World Cup in India next year. He although said playing for his country remains his priority, getting selected in the XI is not something on which he has any control.

“The 50-over World Cup is going to happen next. The last World Cup which I had played, in 2019, was also a 50-over World Cup. I don't tend to think about all this stuff that much. For me, what matters is playing for India, that is my first goal. Now, whether I am picked in the XI or not that is not in my hand. I hope I can continue playing in the same manner, get to play for my country and hope India becomes the champions in 2023,” Chahal added.

Rohit Sharma informed me earlier about his decision to not play me in T20 World Cup - Yuzvendra Chahal

India on Sunday registered their biggest win in T20Is on New Zealand soil, beating hosts by 65 runs in the second T20I at the Bay Oval. Courtesy of an unbeaten and highly impressive 111 from Suryakumar Yadav and four wickets to all-rounder Deepak Hooda, India emerged victorious in the 2nd of the 3-match T20I series.

After the first game getting washed out due to rain, all eyes were on the second T20I. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Kiwis leaked a few runs in beginning but didn’t allow Rishabh Pant to settle, who was made to open today in absence of star openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. Although some handy contributions from Ishan Kishan were coming in, it was Surkyakumar Yadav who owned the Blackcaps' bowlers.

India’s newest star, Suryakumar, often known as SKY among his fans, hit 11 boundaries and seven sixes on his way to completing his second T20I hundred. With this, he also became only the second Indian batter after Rohit to hit two hundreds in T20Is in a single calendar year.

For New Zealand, the only talking point was Tim Southee’s hat trick that included wickets of Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda, and Washington Sundar.

While chasing, the Kiwis lost young Finn Allen on a duck to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Devon Conway and Kane Williamson did resume the rescue work but couldn’t take things far. It was about time before Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with a couple of wickets. Though Kane did hold onto one end and kept the scorecard ticking, Deepak Hooda on the other hand ran through their batting order with the career-best figures of 2.5-0-4-10 in T20Is.

An all-round show by this young Indian team saw them winning the second T20I by 65 runs and taking a one-nil lead in the three-match series.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh slammed the Indian team management following the team's shattering ten-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the second semi-final of T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday (November 10). India failed to defend a target of 169 runs as England booked a spot in the summit clash against Pakistan with a thumping win.

Defending a fighting total, Indian bowlers disappointed as they failed to pick up even a single wicket during England's run-chase. Openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales ruthlessly punished the Indian bowling attack to post a record 170-run stand for the first wicket and take their team home.

Buttler and Hales went all out from the word go as they made the most of the Powerplay at the Adelaide Oval while denying India a breakthrough. There was no looking back after the good start as the duo took their team over the line comfortably to knock India out of the tournament.

Reacting to India's defeat, Harbhajan questioned India's selection and said he failed to understand why spinner Yuzvendra Chahal kept warming the bench throughout the tournament. Chahal was part of India's squad but didn't get a single game at the World Cup with R Ashwin getting preferred over him.

Harbhajan also advised India to learn from England's approach in T20Is and follow the same template to achieve success in the shortest format.

"It is hurting, more because that we did not fight at all,” Harbhajan told India Today in the Battle of Champions show," Harbhajan was quoted as saying by India Today.

"India batted like ODI in first 10-12 overs like they still had 40 more overs to play. India should learn this format from England. They played like champions. It is very disappointing to see India's approach throughout the tournament where they did not look like they would score more than 35 runs.

"I don't know what are the reasons that a champion bowler (Yuzvendra Chahal) is not in the team. He must have done something to someone that he is not getting a game. With his credentials, he should have been your first-choice spinner," he added.

Chahal was India's first-choice spinner in T20Is in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup and was backed by the team management across bilateral series. He was expected to lead the spin attack in the tournament but was surprisingly benched for Ashwin, who offered a little extra with the bat in the lower order.

The lack of a wicket-taking spinner like Chahal in the middle overs cost India dearly in the semi-final against England as the bowlers looked clueless against Buttler and Hales, who went all guns blazing at the top. England will now face Pakistan in the all-important final on Sunday (November 13).

Yuzvendra Chahal must have done something to someone to not get a game in T20 World Cup: Harbhajan Singh

Team India started their T20 World Cup 2022 edition with a memorable win over arch-rivals Pakistan at the iconic MCG, Melbourne on Sunday (October 23). Having won the toss and opting to bowl first, India rode on three-fers from Arshdeep Singh and all-rounder Hardik Pandya to restrict Pakistan to 159 for 8.

In reply, India were tottering at 31 for 4, losing their skipper Rohit Sharma (4) and vice-captain KL Rahul for cheap. However, Virat Kohli produced a masterclass, 82 not out off 53 balls, and was well-supported by Hardik (40) to take India past the finish line courtesy of a four from R Ashwin's blade on the last ball of the contest. Now, the action shifts to the Netherlands face-off as India will aim to keep their winning streak alive.

India will take on the Dutch line-up, at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Sydney. This will be the first face-off between both sides in the format. So far, India have faced Netherlands twice in ODI World Cup -- in 2003 and 2011. Hence, a new challenge will be infront of the Indian team when they take the field versus the Netherlands line-up.

Given Ireland stunned 2010 winners England on Wednesday (October 26), India won't take the Netherlands lightly. With no experience of playing them whatsoever in the format, India will start cautiously before trying to explode. As per the conditions, a used pitch will be on offer for the India-Dutch encounter, given it is the second encounter of the day (after South Africa vs Bangladesh). A similar sort of pitch can be expected, as it was in the Super 12 opener featuring Australia and New Zealand, but with lesser bounce. Thus, slower bowlers can come to play. Toss will be crucial and the captains can look to bat first, on a surface which might get slower. However, with rain forecast, bowling first is also an option.

India vs Netherlands, T20 WC 2022: Predicting Men in Blue's likely XI for crucial tie

India will take on Australia in the series-deciding third T20I in Hyderabad on Sunday. After facing a defeat in the series-opener, Rohit Sharma & Co. bounced back strongly in the second T20I to level the series 1-1 and will be aiming to clinch the three-match rubber in the third and final encounter on Sunday.

India won the rain-curtailed 2nd T20I by six wickets after comfortably chasing down the tricky target of 91 runs with four balls to spare in the 8 over-a-side contest. Skipper Rohit Sharma looked in great touch as he played a match-winning knock of unbeaten 46 while Dinesh Karthik came up with a fiery 2-ball 10 cameo to take India home.

India will be hopeful of continuing their winning run in the series-decider on Sunday and will have some tough calls to make as far as the playing XI is concerned. With Jasprit Bumrah returning in the second T20I, India had left out senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to play an extra batter in Rishabh Pant.

However, Bhuveneshwar is likely to return to the XI on Sunday and it remains to be seen if Pant will keep his spot ahead of Karthik, who has been in terrific form so far this year. India might also look at dropping Yuzvendra Chahal, who has struggled so far in the series, to make way for R Ashwin.

Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya are likely to be the two all-rounders providing balance to the attack while Harshal Patel is also expected to get a consistent run in order to find his rhythm ahead of the T20 World Cup next month. With Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah back in the mix, India will have their best strength attack after a while in T20Is.

Will R Ashwin replace Yuzvendra Chahal? India's predicted XI for series-deciding 3rd T20I against Australia

Before the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, to be held in Australia from October-November, India are involved in a three-match T20I series versus Australia, at home, and will then host South Africa in three T20Is and ODIs, each, before heading to the showpiece event. Since the Asia Cup 2022 edition, Rohit Sharma & Co. have disappointed their fans with their performances and their main concern remains death bowling.

India leaked runs in the death overs in their Super Four face-off versus Pakistan and the script remained the same versus Sri Lanka as well (losing both the games in the last over). In the three-match T20I series opener versus T20 world champions Australia, India posted 208 for 6 -- their highest score in the format versus Australia -- but failed to defend it as Aaron Finch & Co. won by four wickets in 19.2 overs courtesy of Cameron Green's 61 and Matthew Wade's 21-ball 45 not out.

India had reduced Australia to 145-5, at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, after they were cruising at 109 for 1 at the halfway mark. However, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal leaked runs -- with each going in excess of 11 an over -- whereas spinner Axar Patel was the only impressive bowler, conceding 3 for 17. Bhuvi, the most experienced of the lot, leaked 31 runs in his last 12 deliveries whereas Harshal gave away 22 in the penultimate over.

After the match, the Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led Indian team management remains concerned with the death-bowling woes. As per a report in InsideSport, the BCCI selectors also remain 'concerned' and will talk to the team management to address the bowling issues before the T20 WC Down Under.

"Of course, it’s a concern when our bowlers cannot defend 208. But there is time and you have to understand that the Mohali pitch was batting heaven. So, it would not be ideal to discard them based on one match. We will talk to the team management on the help they need to make this work," one of the selectors was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

"Jasprit is still not 100%, Harshal has just returned, and a senior campaigner like Bhuvneshwar has a dip in form at the worst possible time. So, it’s concerning. Umesh has returned from injury, so he was a bit off the rhythm. They will bounce back," the selector added.

Since the T20 WC will be held in Australia, a place where bowlers are offered good conditions, Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and Bhuvneshwar’s dip in form have kept the selectors worried.

Bumrah, who is returning from a back injury which ruled him out of the Asia Cup, missed the Australia T20I series opener. He is likely to be part of the second and penultimate tie with the series on the line. The selectors, Indian team management and fans will hope for the bowlers to come good in their remaining encounters in the run-up to the marquee tournament in Australia, from next month.

'Concerned' selectors to 'talk to Indian team management' after bowlers' flop show in Mohali T20I - Report

BCCI named India's 15-man squad, along with a 4-man reserve list, for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 edition, to be held in Australia from October-November. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad saw the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel as the two pacers recovered from their respective injuries and made the final cut.

In the reserve list, the likes of Md Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar and Shreyas Iyer were roped in. The main squad primarily features the players who featured in the Asia Cup -- where India failed to make it to the final -- and, thus, many former cricketers and experts of the game have shared their take on India's line-up.

Aakash Chopra, former Indian opener-turned-commentator-cum-expert, also joined the bandwagon and feels Yuzvendra Chahal is the only 'legit wicket-taking option'.

"You have picked three spinners - an offspinner, a legspinner and a left-arm spinner. So you have picked different-different options but Yuzi Chahal is the only legit wicket-taking option in T20 cricket," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Chopra further opined, "The others are defensive options - make no mistake, that is the truth. You can see the numbers for the last 12 months, IPL included for both of them - Axar and Ravichandran Ashwin. Being disappointed with Bishnoi's omission from the main squad, he stated, "Ravi Bishnoi was a tempting option available to you. You are not thinking about Kuldeep at all, which is slightly disappointing, but he could also have been a wicket-taking option. But you didn't think about either of them."

"It will be very interesting whether you will be able to play two out of the three spinners in the XI. Will you be able to play either Axar or Ravi (Ashwin) along with Yuzi Chahal - that’s going to be a big one," Chopra added.

India's final 15-man squad for T20 World Cup 2022:

Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh

India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in a must-win clash in the Super Four stage of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday (September 06). After getting off to a brilliant start with two wins in a row in the group stage, India's unbeaten run was snapped by Pakistan in their Super Four opener on Sunday.

Pakistan produced a valiant performance as they chased down the target of 182 runs to hand India their first defeat in the tournament. However, the loss came at a crucial juncture for Rohit Sharma & Co., who will now have to win their remaining two matches in the Super Four to stand a chance of securing a spot in the final.

India will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The Islanders are heading into the clash riding high on confidence after beating Afghanistan in the Super Four opener. It was a high-octane clash between the two teams where Sri Lanka prevailed to move a step closer to the final.

However, they will face their biggest challenge of the tournament so far against Rohit-led India on Tuesday. Ahead of the all-important game, India once again face some major selection headaches as they aim to return to winning ways and salvage their campaign.

India might make a change in their bowling line-up against Sri Lanka as Yuzvendra Chahal's form remains under the scanner after he ended up conceding 43 runs off his four overs against Pakistan. He can make way for veteran R Ashwin in the XI or his place can also be taken by fast bowler Avesh Khan, who had missed the last game due to fever.

Ravi Bishnoi impressed against Pakistan and is likely to pip Chahal to retain his spot in the Sri Lanka clash. If India decide against bringing Avesh back, they can go with Ashwin and Bishnoi as the two spinners. The Men in Blue can also ring in changes in the batting line-up.

Deepak Hooda was not utilised with the ball against Pakistan, leading to questions over Dinesh Karthik's exclusion if the all-rounder was supposed to contribute only with the bat. India can be tempted to bring back Karthik to have extra cushion down the order and go with only five bowlers in the game.

India couldn't make it two wins in a row versus Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup when both sides met in the Super Four match at the Dubai International Crcket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday (September 04). After posting a competitive 181-7, being asked to bat first by Babar Azam-led Men in Green, Indian bowlers couldn't produce a memorable performance as the Men in Blue lost the contest on the penultimate ball.

Among the Indian bowlers, Arshdeep Singh returned with a decent spell (3.5-0-27-1) whereas inexperienced spinner Ravi Bishnoi was most successful, ending with 4-0-26-1. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar (conceded 19 runs in the penultimate over), Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal conceded over ten per over. Thus, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir opined on the Indian bowlers post the Pakistan defeat and lauded young Bishnoi. He also made a bold statement that Chahal -- despite being a senior bowler -- bowled the easier overs when compared to Bishnoi.

“I think Bishnoi did a fabulous job today. He was the one who bowled the toughest overs in this game. Bowling the fifth over and getting Babar out, bowling the 18th over. Had Avesh been fit, probably Bishi wouldn't have played this game. Chahal has been the senior over, and he has actually bowled the easier overs as compared to someone like Bishnoi, who is playing first game against Pakistan,” said Gambhir on Star Sports.

Gambhir further also pointed out that Hardik having an off day led to India's defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan. “You got to give it to him. I don't think India missed anyone. Probably, Hardik didn't have the day that India expected him to have, but it's fine. Cricket is a great leveller,” Gambhir added.

Rohit & Co. will now face Sri Lanka on Tuesday (August 06) and Afghanistan (August 08) in their remaining games in the Super Four and hope to win both to qualify for the final.

Yuzvendra Chahal recently offered fans some insight into the role that Hardik Pandya plays in the Indian cricket team, admitting that he was one of the most talented players of the team with his ability to bowl and bat.

He admitted that Pandya was one of the most versatile batsmen in the squad. He also commented on how Pandya has improved as a bowler. Although Pandya was previously utilised as a lower-order batsman, Chahal believes he has matured enough to bat higher up in the order.

"Hardik has changed completely, we saw him batting at No.7 earlier. I think when he went to Gujarat Titans from Mumbai Indians, he realised he can bat higher up the order. Any batter who can hit right from the crease, it is difficult to bowl to him. He is batting like a proper batter, which has given us more strength."

Although batting has always been Pandya's forte, Chahal believes he has truly come into his own as a crucial addition to the bowling team. He admitted that his bouncers are rather deceptive.

"He is bowling his four overs also, with him coming back, it has really helped our side. He bowls a quick bouncer, if you see it from square off, his bouncer is really deceptive. It shows how much he worked hard when he was out due to injury."

Yuzvendra Chahal has featured in a myriad of matches sporting the same colours as the former Indian team captain Virat Kohli. Kohli has found himself at the receiving end of a significant amount of flak as he recently hit 1,000 days without an international century. His lean patch has seemingly plagued him for a significant amount of time.

However, in a recent interaction with the media, Yuzvendra Chahal declared that it was not all about scoring stunning centuries. Chahal argued that Kohli had played a vital role in keeping the team together and urging his teammates to hold themselves at a higher standard.

You just see his average across all formats, the problem is we just think about his 100s, we don't talk about those valuable contributions of 60-70 because of the standards he has set. If he is there at the crease and has 15-20 runs behind him, I am telling you no bowler wants to bowl to him."

Watch: Shikhar Dhawan & Co.'s animated celebrations as Team India clinch ODI series vs West Indies

Following the thrilling three-run win over West Indies in the first ODI, Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal said that the team had confidence that Mohammed Siraj would be able to defend 15 runs in the final over. Brilliant half-centuries from Kyle Mayers and Brandon King went in vain as West Indies succumbed to a painful three-run defeat to India in the first ODI of three-match series here at Queen`s Park Oval in Trinidad on Friday.

"We had confidence and belief that Siraj could defend 15 runs in the final over because of the way he was bowling his yorkers. In his previous two overs as well, he had missed hardly one or two yorkers. There was confidence, but also pressure because of the way they (West Indies) were batting. When Sanju Samson made that save on the wide ball, it raised our confidence," said Chahal in the post-match press conference.

About his bowling plan in the match, Chahal said that he always backs his strengths. "I knew that the ball was getting old and you can beat the batter by turning it. I was changing my line and bowling wider because the leg side boundary was small. I wanted them to hit me over the covers," he added.

On his role as a senior spinner, who bowls crucial final overs for his side, the spinner said that he performed this role during the Indian Premier League 2022 where he got to bowl a lot in death overs.

"I got a lot of confidence through that. I bowl two overs after the 40-over mark. My role is clear to me. I practice in the nets accordingly and discuss my plans with the coaches," he added.

Chahal said that there was no pressure on the young Indian bowling attack in this series in absence of seniors like Jasprit Bumrah. "They have played a lot of matches, they have a lot of experience in IPL and in first-class cricket. You cannot say that this line-up is inexperienced," he added.

With this victory, India has a 1-0 lead in the series. India posted a massive 308/7 in their first innings. Half-centuries from captain Shikhar Dhawan (97), Shubman Gill (64) and Shreyas Iyer (54) were instrumental in taking the Men in Blue to the huge score. Gudakesh Motie was the pick of the bowlers with 2/54 in ten overs.

In chase of 309, half-centuries from Kyle Mayers (75) and Brandon King (54) helped Windies stay alive in the game. Akeal Hosein (32*) and Romario Shepherd (39*) almost took their side across the finishing line, but Indian bowlers held their nerves to seal a thrilling three-run win.

Mohammed Siraj was the best bowler for India, with 2/57 in ten overs. He held his composure and did not allow the Windies to reach the target when they were just 15 runs away from it in the final over. Dhawan scored a brilliant knock of 97 in the match, which also earned him the `Man of the Match` award.

Yuzvendra Chahal lauds Md. Siraj for defending 15 runs in last over as India clinch thriller vs West Indies

After much wait, the BCCI selection committee -- headed by Chetan Sharma -- has named the India T20I squad for the upcoming tour of West Indies, which commences on July 22. While the tour will kick off with three ODIs, where Shikhar Dhawan will lead a second-stringed side, regular captain Rohit Sharma will return to take charge of the side during the five T20Is.

The five T20Is will start from July 29 as the selection committee announced a strong 18-member squad, sans Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. A lot was said and written about Kohli and whether he should be skipping series despite his poor form, however, he has not been named along with premier pacer Bumrah. The duo have been rested, as per PTI, nonetheless, there is no such mention in the BCCI release and tweet.

Veteran spinner R Ashwin has made a comeback in the T20I line-up whereas there was no mention of Yuzvendra Chahal. In the England T20Is, he bowled six overs and returned with four scalps, at an economy of 7. Hence, it is likely that he has also been given some rest.

WI T20Is: No Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah as R Ashwin, KL Rahul return in Rohit Sharma-led squad

India kept the five-match T20I series alive with a convincing 48-run win over visitors Temba Bavuma-led South Africa in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (June 14). On Friday evening (June 17), both sides will square off against each other once again in the fourth and penultimate match of the series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association, Rajkot.

Talking about the third match, Rishabh Pant-led India once again lost the coin toss and were asked to bat first. Riding on half-centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan, India were on course for a total beyond the 200-run mark before South African bowlers bounced back. Hardik Pandya's unbeaten 31 propelled India to 179-5. In reply, Yuzvendra Chahal's 3 for 20 and Harshal Patel's four-fer dismissed SA for 131 all-out.

Will rain play spoilsport in the fourth and penultimate tie?

Ahead of the fourth T20I, there are chances that rain might play spoilsport in Rajkot. The chances of rain are just 5 percent during the day, it can increase to 25 percent during the night. In addition, there are six percent chances of thunderstorms in the city during the night. The match is expected to go on but there can be some delays.

Match prediction for the fourth T20I: The venue has seen big as well as moderate totals being chased or defended. Hence, there is something for both batters and bowlers. Expect a high-scoring affair with India likely to remain unchanged whereas SA can include Quinton de Kock, if fit, for Reeze Hendricks.

IND vs SA prediction: Who'll win 4th T20I between India and South Africa in Rajkot?

Kuldeep Yadav has had a tough ride in international cricket since the 2019 ODI World Cup. Following his IPL 2022 blitz, where he ended as the fifth-highest wicket while representing the Delhi Capitals (DC), the wrist-spinner is now in the scheme of things for Team India ahead of this year's T20 World Cup, set to be held in Australia.

Former Indian batter-turned-expert Sanjay Manjrekar has recently called for Kuldeep's inclusion in the Indian team ahead of the showpiece event Down Under. Manjrekar feels the pitches in Australia will assist a spinner like Kuldeep and won't be to the liking of Yuzvendra Chahal.

Speaking on Sports 18, Manjrekar was asked how Chahal, who was the Player-of-the-Match in the third T20I between India and South Africa on Tuesday (June 14), fits in the Men in Blue's plans going ahead. To this, the 56-year-old said, "He will be tested on those pitches in Australia. The pitches won't be the ones that Chahal relishes and that's why I believe Kuldeep Yadav has got to be a part of the squad. There will be bounce for his kind of bowler."

"The other thing is in a World Cup you play a different team every game, so there will come teams who will not be so good against the kind of deception that a Kuldeep Yadav has," Manjrekar further pointed out.

So far, Kuldeep has played 24 T20Is for India. In Australia, the 27-year-old spinner has played three T20Is, claiming four scalps at an economy of 5.50. He was part of India's ongoing home T20Is versus the Proteas before an injury ruled him out of action.

Rishabh Pant-led India beat South Africa by 48 runs in the third T20I to keep the five-match series alive after losing the opening two games. On Tuesday evening (June 14), Pant-led India was asked to bat first and rode on half-centuries from openers Ruturaj Gaikwad-Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya's 31 not out to post 179-5 in 20 overs in Visakhapatnam.

In reply, Indian bowlers combined to apply the brakes on Temba Bavuma-led South Africa's run-scoring as the visitors were dismissed for 131 in 19.1 overs in their full quota of overs, to lose by a convincing margin. Yuzvendra Chahal's 3 for 20 and Harshal Patel's four-fer derailed SA's progress with the bat. Talking about Chahal, the Player-of-the-Match from the third T20I was under pressure after he returned with a solitary wicket in the first two games, where he conceded a total of 75 runs in 6.1 overs.

Thus, Chahal revealed the reason for his success as the wily wrist-spinner stated that he varied his lengths after bowling either too full or too short in the earlier games. In addition, the 31-year-old resorted to his main strength, i.e. bowling the classic leg-spin.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Chahal said, "I was bowling too many quick ones and quick sliders in the last game. I spoke to Paras sir and coaches about it. So I tried to bowl quick leg breaks, but with a different seam position today. I want to turn and dip the ball, I couldn't do it the last time so they were able to hit through the line."

"I tried to get some turn and change the line of the ball. I was trying to bowl to my strengths today. When you get middle-order batsmen out in the middle overs, the pressure is on them. Batsmen try a lot of sweeps and reverse sweeps these days so we have to be prepared for that too, as bowlers. In the last game too there was some help for spinners but I didn't bowl that well. The ground is big, thankfully in Rajkot,” Chahal said with a chuckle.

Yuzvendra Chahal reveals technical changes he made for better returns after India's 3rd T20I win vs SA

Rishabh Pant-led India will square off with Temba Bavuma's South Africa in the third T20I of the five-match series on Tuesday evening (June 14) at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.

After two defeats on the trot, the Indian team is on the back foot. They are yet to beat the Proteas in any format in the ongoing calendar year and have lost seven back-to-back games versus the African team (after their Centurion Test win in late 2020). Thus, the pressure will be on a young and inexperienced Pant-led side, who have not clicked as a unit in the series so far.

In both the games played so far, Pant & Co. have failed to get wickets in the middle overs whereas the rotation of bowlers could've been better. Moreover, Indian batters struggled to read the pace of the wicket in the Cuttack T20I, falling 12-15 runs short of a challenging score. Talking about the Proteas, they have a well-balanced side at their disposal and are much more confident in all departments. Thus, they will like to close the series with an unassailable lead in the third T20I.

Match prediction for the third T20I between India and SA: Expect another two-paced wicket on offer for the decisive match. Pant & Co. would hope to win the coin toss else they have some inexperience in their line-up, contrary to SA's strong bowling line-up, and can falter again. Both teams would fancy batting second, even if the wicket slows down a bit as the match progresses ahead, as dew can be a factor in Vizag. From what has been seen in the opening two games, SA should seal the series but the Indian fans would hope for their side to remain alive after Tuesday's encounter. Another 145-150-plus affair on cards?

IND vs SA prediction: Who will win 3rd T20I between India and South Africa in Visakhapatnam

India have begun their preparations for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa at home. KL Rahul will lead the Indian team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma in the five-match series against the Proteas. Several youngsters who impressed in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 have made the cut into the squad and will be eager to perform for the Men in Blue.

The five-match series against South Africa is scheduled to get underway from June 09 at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi. Each member of the Indian squad was in action during IPL 2022 which concluded on May 29 and got a much-deserved break before returning for national duty this month.

Apart from skipper Rohit, senior players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have also been rested from the squad and will return to action in the one-off Test against England next month. In their absence, it will be a litmus test for Rahul as captain in charge of a young team.

Gujarat Titans scripted history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday (May 29) as they went on to win their maiden IPL title in their debut season in the tournament. Gujarat Titans chased down the target of 131 runs comfortably in the summit clash to clinch their first IPL trophy under the captaincy of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who delivered a Man of the Match performance in the final to take his side home.

Hardik picked up three wickets to restrict Rajasthan Royals to a paltry total of 130 runs after Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat first in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat. The GT skipper followed up his bowling heroics with a crucial 34 off 30 balls with the bat to help GT chase down 131 runs with 11 balls to spare and win their maiden IPL trophy.

While Hardik was the star of the final for Gujarat Titans, the likes of Shubman Gill and David Miller also continued their fine form with important knocks of unbeaten 45 and unbeaten 32. Gujarat Titans are the first team to have won the IPL trophy in their debut season since RR in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.

There were a number of individuals who shone for their respective teams throughout the tournament and were deservingly awarded for their heroics following the conclusion of the final on Sunday. While RR opener Jos Buttler won the Orange Cap for scoring the most runs this season, his teammate Yuzvendra Chahal bagged the Purple Cap for being the highest wicket-taker.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be aiming to become the first team to book a spot in the final of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 when they lock horns with top-ranked Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1 at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday (May 24). RR have enjoyed a brilliant run in the tournament so far and finished the league stage on the second spot with 18 points from 14 matches. While Jos Buttler has been their top performer with the willow, Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has impressed with the ball.

Chahal was roped in by RR at the IPL 2022 mega auction earlier this year after being released by RCB and hit the ground running at his new franchise right from the start of the season. He has been constantly troubling the opposition batters and has been picking up wickets regularly.

The Indian leg spinner is currently the highest wicket-taker so far this season with 26 wickets from 14 matches and is on the verge of creating an all-time record in IPL. Chahal is just one wicket away from creating the record for the most number of wickets by a spinner in a single IPL season.

The record is currently held by former Chennai Super Kings spinner Imran Tahir, who had picked up 26 wickets to bag the Purple Cap in IPL 2019. Chahal has already matched Tahir's tally in the ongoing season and needs just one more wicket to go past him and set a new record in the league.

Most wickets by a spinner in a single IPL season:

26 - Imran Tahir (IPL 2019)

26* - Yuzvendra Chahal (IPL 2022)

24 - Harbhajan Singh (IPL 2013)

24 - Sunil Narine (IPL 2012)

Chahal has been exceptional inhis first season for the Royals after joining the team fro RCB this year. If he manages to stay on the top of the wicket-taking charts this season, he will become only the third spinner to win the Purple Cap in IPl history after Tahir and Pragyan Ojha (2010).

Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans will meet at the Eden Gardens in the first Qualifier on Tuesday in a bid to become the first team to make it to the final. The loser of the game will get a second chance at reaching the final in the second Qualifier against the winner of the Eliminator between Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Most wickets by a spinner in a single IPL season: 26 - Imran Tahir (IPL 2019) 26* - Yuzvendra Chahal (IPL 2022) 24 - Harbhajan Singh (IPL 2013) 24 - Sunil Narine (IPL 2012) Also Read: Even Rohit, Virat haven't scored runs: Former Pak captain defends Ishan Kishan's selection for SA T20Is Chahal has been exceptional inhis first season for the Royals after joining the team fro RCB this year.

RR vs GT: Yuzvendra Chahal set to script historic feat, on the brink of breaking an all-time record in IPL

On Friday evening (May 20), the one-time winners Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) will face the defending champions and four-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 68 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

While Rajasthan have very much made it to the playoffs (they just need to ensure their positive NRR isn't hit badly even in case of a loss), they still have lots to play for. If they win, they will assure themselves of a top-two finish, however, a loss will mean they will have to take a longer route to reach the final. On the other hand, the Chennai franchise will be desperate to finish off a forgettable season with a win. So far, they have managed only four victories from 13 games and have been a pale shadow of themselves.

Talking about Rajasthan, Jos Buttler remains the Orange Cap holder but has lost some form in the recent outings. He will like to get back among runs before the playoffs. RR would be eager to finalise their team combination, especially knowing who will be their fourth overseas player, as the time to chop and change has gone. CSK, on the other hand, have been rusty with both bat and ball. Expect some more new faces to appear in the playing XI and learn from none other than MS Dhoni, who will play his last game on the 22-yard cricket strip this year.

Match prediction for CSK vs RR clash: The venue has been favourable for batters as well as the spinners. Expect a high-scoring affair, around 165-170-plus, especially if RR bat first. While the odds favour RR to pip CSK, will the Yellow Army stun the 2008 champions with a narrow win?

'Two spin masters': Lasith Malinga picks two players who can win Purple Cap in IPL 2022

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal marked his return to Rajasthan Royals` playing eleven with a scintillating 68 while Shimron Hetmyer exhibited his finishing exploits in an unbeaten 31 to help the side defeat Punjab Kings by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

After Jonny Bairstow`s 58 and Jitesh Sharma`s unbeaten 38 took Punjab to 189/5, Jaiswal shined in his comeback match of the tournament. Despite Devdutt Padikkal struggling to get going, Hetmyer ensured that Rajasthan chased down the total to successfully break their two-match losing streak and keep themselves in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs.

Jaiswal began by slamming two fours through cuts in the off-side and a glorious picked-up six over deep square leg. Jos Buttler joined the attacking party in the fourth over, launching Kagiso Rabada for a six over deep midwicket. He followed it up with three fours -- carving one through extra cover, a lap-pull over short fine leg while in air and smoked through cover. But Rabada had the last laugh, having an over-improvising Buttler caught at short third man.

Sanju Samson took over the attacking mantle after Buttler`s fall, finding luck in getting fours through edges twice while nailing other boundaries with sheer timing through point and cover. But his stay at the crease ended when he miscued to long-off off Rishi Dhawan.

Jaiswal, meanwhile, continued with his charge, heaving a four over Sandeep Sharma`s head and produced a stunning inside-out lofted six over extra cover off Rahul Chahar. Sharma came under from Jaiswal again when he carted back-to-back fours -- slapping over long-off and playing a silken late cut through third man.

Jaiswal reached his maiden fifty of the tournament in 33 balls. He then followed it up with three fours off Dhawan in the 13th over -- a smack over long-on, scoop flying over short third man and nailing drive past cover. After taking another four through reverse sweep off Chahar, Jaiswal tried to take over Arshdeep Singh but holed out to long-off, breaking the 56-run stand.

With 47 runs needed off the last five overs, Shimron Hetmyer clipped Rabada through fine leg and cracked successive boundaries in the arc between mid-wicket and long-on. Hetmyer and Padikkal took four and six respectively off Rabada to make the equation really easy for Rajasthan.

Arshdeep nailed his yorkers in a top-class 19th over and got Padikkal out with a low full toss chipped to cover. Hetmyer dispatched Chahar for a six over wide long-on and finished off the chase with a single in the same region to seal Rajasthan`s first win of the tournament in a chase.

IPL 2022: Yuzvendra Chahal becomes second bowler after Lasith Malinga to achieve massive feat

Both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have not had the best of time following the 2019 ODI World Cup. Both the wrist spinners haven't been a regular in limited-overs. While Chahal wasn't a part of the 2021 T20 World Cup squad, Kuldeep has fallen behind in the pecking order for Team India across formats.

Hence, the IPL 2022 edition was always going to be a huge challenge for both Chahal and Kuldeep, fondly known as 'Kulcha'. So far, both the spinners have delivered the goods for their respective franchises and are the leading wicket-takers. Talking about Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Chahal, he is the Purple Cap holder currently, with 18 scalps at 12.16 and an economy of 7.09. Kuldeep, on the other hand, has 17 wickets and is at the second spot, at an average of 14.11. In addition, he has been the Player-of-the-Match in all of Delhi Capitals' (DC) victories so far in the 15th season.

After starring for DC (3-0-14-4) in their 4-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday evening (April 28), Kuldeep lavished praise on his 'big brother' Chahal and said, "He encouraged me a lot. He has been like a big brother and stood by me during my bad times. In my heart, I want him to go and win the Purple Cap because he has been bowling exceptionally over the past four years."

Prior to this season, Kuldeep had mostly been on the bench for KKR from IPL 2019 to IPL 2021. On his turnaround ever since donning the DC jersey, the 27-year-old added, "I might have become a better bowler, but I am mentally stronger than before. When you fail in life you pick what you can improve on and that is something I had to improve. I don't get scared of failing now."
