IPL 2022: DC's game vs PBKS to go ahead despite COVID-19 scare, RR clash shifted from Pune to Mumbai

There were plenty of top performers in Rajasthan Royals (RR) - Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clash in match 30 of IPL 2022 edition, held on Monday evening (April 18) at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. While Jos Buttler's 103 and rapid knocks from skipper Sanju Samson-Shimron Hetmyer set it up for RR as they posted 217-5, after being asked to bat first, Yuzvendra Chahal's five-fer and Obed McCoy's twin strikes helped Rajasthan beat KKR by seven runs in a high-scoring thriller.

Apart from Chahal, Buttler and the likes, R Ashwin also contributed to RR's famous win over KKR. While Ashwin returned with 4-0-38-1, he accounted for the wicket of danger man Andre Russell. The West Indian came out to bat at No. 5 with more than six overs left in KKR's run-chase. Jos Buttler's ton, Yuzvendra Chahal's hat-trick guide RR to thrilling 7-run win over KKR in IPL 2022

Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bagged his maiden hat-trick in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday during his side's clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Chahal bowled a game-changing 17th over picking up as many as four wickets in it to turn the game in RR's favour.

KKR required only 40 runs from the final four overs with six wickets in hand and skipper Shreyas Iyer out in the middle with all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer when Chahal came to bowl the 17th over for RR during KKR's 218-run chase. He started the over with the wicket of Venkatesh, who was stumped by Sanju Samson after missing his shot completely.

Sheldon Jackson then arrived on the crease and started off with a dot ball before giving Iyer the strike with a single. The KKR skipper was looking in fabulous touch batting on 88 with the help of seven fours and four sixes. However, he was trapped plumb in front of the wicket and was dismissed lbw by Chahal on the 4th delivery of the over.

RR vs LSG: Yuzvendra Chahal scripts a new record, becomes 2nd fastest to claim 150 IPL wickets

Yuzvendra Chahal was the star performer for Rajasthan Royals (RR) as the Sanju Samson-led franchise beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by three runs to end the debutant team's three-match winning streak, on Sunday evening (April 10) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

As RR were asked to bat first, they were struggling at 67-4 before Shimron Hetmyer's 59 propelled the team score to 165-6. While Trent Boult's opening spell put RR ahead in their defence of 166, Yuzi Chahal rose to the occasion to strike at regular intervals and leave LSG behind in the contest. While Chahal had a memorable day with his performances making a mark, his anger at the umpire also made heads turn.

The incident took place when the 31-year-old wrist-spinner came onto bowl the 18th over. The RR spinner resorted to a leg break which was pitched outside off-stump, with Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera going for a slog sweep and missing it completely. While it seemed fairly evident that the ball was within the marker when it passed the stumps, it was adjudged a wide by the on-field umpire. Thus, this left Chahal lose his cool and argue with the umpire:

BCCI should take a look on 2013 incident with Chahal in IPL, says former India cricketer Sarandeep Singh

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently made a shocking revelation about being bullied by a teammate during his stint with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013. Chahal had made his IPL debut for the Rohit Sharma-led side back in 2013. The leg-spinner revealed he faced a near-death experience during a team geat-together.

Recalling the horrific incident, Chahal revealed a Mumbai Indians teammate dangled him from the balcony on the 15th floor after "getting drunk". Chahal opened up about the incident during a freewheeling chat with his current Rajasthan Royals and India teammate R Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel.

Reacting to Chahal's shocking revelations, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has demanded strict action against the offender. Shastri said there was 'no laughing matter at all' in what Chahal revealed and that such a person should be sent to rehab, and not allowed on a cricket field.

"No laughing matter at all. I do not know who the person involved is, he was not in a conscious state of mind. If that is the case, then it is a big worry. When you are in such a state trying something like that, the chances of mistakes are even more. It is not acceptable at all," Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo.

"It is the first time I am hearing such a drastic thing like this. It is not funny at all. If such an incident happens today, a life ban for that person involved and send that person to a rehab centre as quickly as possible. Life ban, better not come near to a cricket field then he will realise how funny is it or not funny," he added.

From Buttler's special ton to DK-Shahbaz Ahmed's fireworks: How RCB ended RR's unbeaten run

Match 13 of the IPL 2022 edition will see the one-time winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) face the three-time runners-up Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday evening (April 5).

Both sides are coming into this game on the back of a win in their previous outing. While RCB beat the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a low-scoring thriller last week, RR emerged on top of the five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-scoring encounter on April 2 (Saturday) to remain unbeaten after their opening two fixtures.

So far, RR have played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune and at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. Thus, they will be tested at the Wankhede, where the pitch has tested the batters and has assisted the pacers in the powerplays. It will be interesting to see how they respond to the change in conditions at the iconic stadium.

Predicting RR's XI for RCB fixture

Given that RR have a settled line-up, with their batters expressing themselves and having a lot of variety in the bowling department, they might not be willing to make wholesome changes in the line-up. Nonetheless, they would be hoping for a turnaround from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hasn't performed so far in the two games (scoring 20 and 1). The other chink in RR's armour can be their sixth bowling option. They will hope for their main bowlers to strike at regular intervals as Riyan Parag is their only additional option if one from their bowling unit has an off-day

Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna

IPL 2022: Will table-toppers go unchanged? Predicting Sanju Samson-led RR's likely playing XI vs RCB

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have made a brilliant start to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season with two wins in a row in the first two matches. RR thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 61 runs in their season-opener before registering a thumping win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in their second game on Saturday (April 02).

The Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 23 runs at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday after successfully defending a total of 193 runs. The Royals rode on Jos Buttler's stunning century (100 off 68 balls) and crucial cameos from skipper Sanju Samson (30) and Shimron Hetmyer (35) to post a strong total of 193 runs on the board, batting first.

Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin then impressed with the ball as RR managed to restrict MI on 170/8 in 20 overs to register a comfortable win. While Chahal finished with figures of 2/26 in his 4 overs, Ashwin managed a solitary wicket while conceding 30 runs off his four overs.

Post their win, Chahal and Buttler, who were the two heroes of the Rajasthan Royals' victory, caught up with each other for a fun chat. The duo, who have been enjoying hilarious banter on social media ever since the spinner's arrival at the franchise this year, continued to poke fun at each other during the chat.

Chahal was seen asking Buttler if the England opener feels confident opening the batting knowing that the leg-spinner is not batting on top and is there at no.8 or 9. Buttler was quick to come up with a cheeky response and told Chahal how has been looking forward to scoring runs regularly to ensure Chahal can't take his opening spot in the batting line-up.

"Absolutely! Ever since you turned up this year, you have been putting pressure on the opening spot. Have to take my time to score some runs to keep you on the outside," Buttler told Chahal.

Chahal came close to taking his maiden hat-trick in the IPL on Saturday when he dismissed Tim David and Daniel Sams off successive deliveries in the 16th over. However, Murugan Ashwin was dropped off the third ball as Chahal missed out on his hat-trick closely.

Nonetheless. it was a brilliant performance from the leg-spinner, who has taken no time to hit the ground running for the Royals in IPL 2022 and has been among the wickets in the first two matches of the season. RR will be looking to continue their winning run when they face Chahal's former team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their next game on Tuesday (April 05).

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have made a brilliant start to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season with two wins in a row in the first two matches. Also Read: Jos Buttler, Yuzvendra Chahal power Rajasthan Royals to 23-run win over Mumbai Indians Chahal was seen asking Buttler if the England opener feels confident opening the batting knowing that the leg-spinner is not batting on top and is there at no.8 or 9. 'Have to score runs to keep you out as an opener': Buttler enjoys hilarious banter with Chahal - WATCH

Jos Buttler's manic mayhem was matched in equal measure by spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal as Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 23 runs in an IPL match on Saturday.

Buttler (100 off 68 balls) scored his second IPL ton off only 66 balls to help the Royals to 193 for 8, which seemed slightly sub-par due to Jasprit Bumrah's (3/17 in 4 overs) brilliant effort.

Ishan Kishan (54 off 43 balls) and unheralded N Tilak Verma (61 off 33 balls) added 81 in 8 overs before Ashwin (1/30 in 4 overs) and Chahal (2/26 in 4 overs) decisively tilted the game in RR's favour between overs 14 to 16 as MI managed only 170 for 8 after 20 overs.

While Royals have now won two out of two, MI have lost both their games in another dismal start to an IPL season.

In the end, there were two factors that combined to bring about MI's downfall.
Firstly, it was Buttler's (11 fours and five sixes) assault against MI's weak-links like Basil Thampi and Murugan Ashwin that made the difference.

Three such overs yielded 73 runs and even Bumrah's brilliance didn't seem to be enough in the final context of the match.

And then while bowling, in between overs 14 and 16, Chahal-Ashwin combination gave away only 16 runs and the chase was derailed.

In the last four overs also, Trent Boult (1 for 29 in four overs), Prasidh Krishna (1/37 in 4 overs) and Navdeep Saini (2/36 in 3 overs) kept things tight by not giving Kieron Pollard (22 off 24 overs) any room to free his arms.

All of them knowing Pollard's weakness against fast wide yorkers, bowled them aplenty to keep the West Indies white-ball skipper under tight leash.

If there was one plus point for MI, that will be young Tilak Verma, who could be the next big player for the franchise with his eye-catching elegance coupled with brute power.

The reverse swept six off Ashwin was brilliant but Tilak played one slog sweep too many to get out off the next ball.

Buttler played shots all round the park to bring up his second IPL hundred and first of the current edition. It was all the more praiseworthy as Yashashvi Jaiswal (1) and Devdutt Padikkal (7) were dismissed cheaply.

Skipper Sanju Samson (30 off 21 balls) played a good knock as he and Buttler conjured 82 runs for the third wicket.

A late cameo by Shimron Hetymar (35 off 14 balls; 3x4; 3x6) compounded the bowling team's woes.

Buttler, who was off the mark with a boundary to fine-leg and hit his first maximum, a pull shot over mid-wicket, off Daniel Sams (0/32), in the second over seemed on a rampage.

He tore into Basil Thampi's fourth over, hammering him for three maximums and two boundaries, as Rajasthan fetched 26 runs and raced to 43/1.

Buttler, who hit two successive boundaries off Sams, brought up his fifty in just 32 balls and then took the Mumbai Indians attack to task.

At 87/2, after 10 overs, the stage was set for a big score. Buttler was playing big shots at will and was ably supported by his captain. The duo was brutal on Murugan Ashwin, hitting him for 21-runs in the 11th over.

Samson struck three sixes and a four, before being dismissed by Kieron Pollard in the 15th over.

Then it was the Hetymar show, as he hit compatriot Pollard for two fours and as many sixes in the 17th over, where RR got 26 runs.

Buttler paced his innings well and reached to the three-figure mark with a single. However, Bumrah's 19th over partially got MI back in the game.

IPL 2022: Jos Buttler, Yuzvendra Chahal power Rajasthan Royals to 23-run win over Mumbai Indians

Match 5 of the IPL 2022 edition saw the one-time winner Rajasthan Royals (RR) lock horns with the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Tuesday evening (March 29).

It was the first game in Pune in the ongoing IPL season and it produced a run-fest with Rajasthan posting 210-6 in 20 overs and, later, defending the total by 61 runs. After starts from Jos Buttler (35) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (20), skipper Sanju Samson upped the ante for RR along with Devdutt Padikkal's 29-ball 41 and rapid knocks from Shimron Hetmyer (13-ball 32) - Riyan Parag (9-ball 12*) as RR went big with the bat. In reply, Yuzvendra Chahal's 3 for 22 and twin strikes each from Trent Boult-Prasidh Krishna restricted Kane Williamson & Co. for a moderate 149-7.

With this, RR took the top spot in the points table with a healthy NRR of 3.050. After missing out on the playoffs since 2018, ending at the bottom in IPL 2020 and at the seventh position last year, RR have started off nicely. However, they would be desperate to remain consistent and go the distance this time around, in a bid to claim their second IPL title. They were the first-ever IPL champions, in 2008, however, have fallen behind since then.

Thus, at the post-match presentation, Danny Marrison tried putting Samson in a spot and asked him if he feels it is 'about time to get that IPL trophy back in the RR cabinet' this time around. To this, Samson had a cheeky response up his sleeves and said, "I think every season we come with great dreams. I think it's a franchise that really takes care of its players. It doesn't give too much pressure as you're giving me right now,” Samson told commentator Morrison after the match. “It likes to keep it as simple as possible. IPL 2022: RR captain Sanju Samson gives cheeky reply to Danny Marrison's title-drought question post SRH win

A new-look and re-energised Rajasthan Royals attacked from the outset and inflicted on Sunrisers Hyderabad a 61-run hammering to begin their campaign in IPL-15 on a rousing note here on Tuesday.

RR got the better of SRH in every department after skipper Sanju Samson led from the front with a scintillating 27-ball 55 to power his team to an imposing 210 for six.

Smarting from the pounding in the first half of their opening fixture, SRH failed to pose any serious threat to RR after a disastrous start to their innings, which saw them slip to 9/3 and then 29/4.

In the end, Kane Williamson's (2) team was stopped at 149 for seven, with the captain himself enduring a bad day in office.

SRH wouldn't have got even that many had it not been for Aiden Markram's unbeaten 57 and Washington Sundar's 14-ball 40, the latter somewhat making up with the willow after his forgettable outing with the ball.

SRH's top-order batting was in stark contrast to Samson and Devdutt Padikkal (41 off 29 balls; 4x4; 6x2), who added 73 runs for the third wicket off 41 balls, before Shimron Hetmyer used his brute power to clobber 32 in only 13 deliveries and take RR past 200.

Samson's six-hitting prowess was on display as he struck five maximums and three boundaries, sparing no bowler during his entertaining stay in the middle.

Later Hetymar smashed three sixes to pile on SRH's misery. A clinical show by the bowlers, led by leg-spinner Yuzvedra Chahal (3/22 in 4 overs), then completed the task for RR.

Chasing an improbable 211, Sunrisers lost key batter Williamson after a diving catch by Padikkal before Rahul Tripathi (0) became Prasidh Krishna's second victim of the day. It became 9/3 as Trent Boult trapped Nicolas Pooran (0) in front of the wicket.

To make matters worse, Chahal removed two more batters in Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad in quick succession, as Sunrisers lost half their side for 37 runs and stared at a heavy defeat.

But Markram, Romario Shepherd (24) and Sundar, who got 24 runs in the 17th over, delayed the inevitable and reduced the margin of defeat.

During the final over, pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile injured himself while landing and was taken off. Put into bat, Royals opener Jos Buttler got a life on zero courtesy a no ball. Buttler (35) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (20) then gave the side a flying start, adding 58 runs to lay the foundation for a big total.

Buttler was brutal on Umran Malik, hammering him for two fours and two maximums in the fourth over, as RR collected 21 runs.

The two openers then struck a six each off Sundar (0/47) in the next over as RR raced to 52 for no loss in five overs.
Jaiswal however perished in the seventh over, holing out to Markram off Shepherd. While Buttler, who hit three fours and as many sixes, was dismissed at the start of the ninth over as RR slipped to 75 for two.

Showing intent straightaway, Samson started with a four and a six over long-off and hit another maximum over fine-leg, taking on the SRH attack with gusto.

While Samson found the fence at will, Padikkal too got into the groove and began attacking in the 12th over when he pulled T Natarajan for a maximum.

Samson was again brutal on Sundar, striking him for two successive sixes in the 16th over as RR marched on.
SRH removed Paddikkal and Samson in quick succession, but a lot of damage had been done by then, before Hetmyer compounded the bowling team's woes with his massive hits as RR scored 123 runs in the back 10.

IPL 2022: Sanju Samson, Prasidh Krishna star as Rajasthan Royals thrash Sunrisers Hyderabad by 61 runs

A new season will begin for both Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp as the two sides will square off with each other in match 5 of the ongoing IPL 2022 edition. This will also be the first-ever match to be held at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium, Pune in the 15th season of the cash-rich league.

Talking about the RR franchise, they have revamped in style after finishing the IPL 2021 edition on the seventh spot. Post the two-day mega auction, in mid-February 2022, the Sanju Samson & Co. have added more strength to the squad with the addition of Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, R Ashwin, Jimmy Neesham, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, etc.

Here's the predicted playing XI for RR ahead of their season-opener versus SRH:

Jos Buttler is very likely to open. Given his stature and ability to put the opposition on the back foot from ball one, he will continue to start at the top and is likely to be accompanied by Yashasvi Jaiswal or Padikkal. Jaiswal struck form in the second and final leg of IPL 2021 and, hence, can be preferred once again to open with Buttler. Padikkal has also opened for his previous franchise, i.e. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but has played at No. 3 in his twin outings for India in the shortest format.

RR might like to remain flexible with the No. 3 spot. They might be temped to send either Samson or Padikkal depending on the situation (Samson for Buttler, Padikkal for Jaiswal, respectively). Hetmyer looks like a certain at No. 5, followed by the likes of James Neesham, Riyan Parag and the main bowlers.

Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was roped in by Rajasthan Royals at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction last month after being released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Chahal was part of the RCB squad for total of eight seasons from IPL 2014 to 2021 before being released by the franchise ahead of the ongoing season.

One of the best spinners in the league at present, Chahal enjoyed an incredibly successful spell at RCB and became their leading wicket-taker of all time with 139 wickets in 113 matches at an average of 22.03. The leg-spinner recently opened up on parting ways with his former side and said he had never thought he would play for some other team in the IPL.

Chahal said the RCB management didn't have any discussions with him about retaining him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction nor was there any sort of an offer from the franchise for him. Chahal revealed RCB's Director of Cricket Mike Hesson had called him before the auction to inform him that the franchise was retaining three players - Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj.

"I am emotionally attached to RCB. I never thought I would play for some other team. People and fans on social media are still asking me ‘why did you ask for this much money?’. The reality is that Mike Hesson (RCB Director of Cricket) called me and said ‘Listen Yuzi, there are three retentions’ (Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj)," Chahal said in an interview with Times of India.

"They didn’t ask me whether I wanted to be retained or tell me if they wanted to retain me. They just talked about the three retentions and I was told that – ‘we will go for you in the auction’. Neither was I asked about money nor did I get any offer of retention. But I will always be loyal to my Bangalore fans. I love them so much, no matter what," he added.

Chahal now has a new side in Rajasthan Royals and is looking to repeat his heroics from the past seasons for his new team this year. The leg-spinner was roped in by RR for a sum of Rs 6.5 crore (INR 65 million) at the mega auction and is raring to repay the faith shown in him by the franchise.

"Obviously. The jersey will be different, but the Yuzi will be the same. You will see the same kind of wicket-taking performances and celebrations from me. It’s a new journey for me and I am very excited about it. Everything will be the same, only the jersey will change. The way I bowled and performed for RCB, I will do the same for RR as well. Nothing is going to change. RR showed faith in me at the auction," said Chahal, who has 139 wickets to his name in 100 matches in his IPL career.

Delhi Capitals spinner Kuldeep Yadav started his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season on a positive note as he claimed three wickets against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. The left-arm chinaman finished with figures of 3/18 in four overs – best figures in the match by a DC bowler.

Kuldeep has struggled for form in the last couple of years as he lost his place in the Indian cricket team and he hardly featured for Kolkata Knight Riders. He did not have a good run of form in the domestic circuit as well but he was picked by Delhi Capitals in the mega auction for INR 2 crore.

England wicket-keeper batter Jos Butler landed in India earlier this week to join his franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Buttler has been one of the key figures in the RR dressing over the years and was one of the players to be retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction this year.

Buttler is once again expected to play an important role for the one-time champions in the upcoming edition. Ever since the conclusion of the mega auction, a number of RR's new signings have been enjoying some fun banter with Buttler including the likes of R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.

After Ashwin's message for him on Mankading, Chahal recently took to social Twitter to express his desire to open the batting with him for the franchise in the upcoming season. RR, who are known to be one of the most active IPL teams on social media, had recently given Chahal the control for their Twitter handle for a day.

From replacing Sanju Samson as the captain of the side to asking the gans for retweets if they wanted to see him open the batting with Buttler for RR, Chahal came up with some hilarious tweets. As Buttler arrived in the RR camp this week, he had a priceless reaction to Chahal's tweet suggesting he should open with the leg spinner for RR this season.

"Jos bhai is here and his reaction is GOLD," Rajasthan Royals captioned the post while sharing a video of Buttler's reaction to Chahal's tweet. On March 16, Chahal had tweeted from the RR account - "10000 Retweets and He will open with @josbuttler uncle," while sharing his picture.

By virtue of this, India became the second-Test playing nation to attain 10 successive wins (fourth overall).

Talking about the series opener, played in Lucknow, Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision backfired as Ishan Kishan-Rohit's century-stand took India off to a flier. While Rohit fell for 32-ball 44, he became the leading run-getter in the shortest format.

After Rohit's fall, Ishan's 56-ball 89 (at a strike-rate of 158.93) and Shreyas Iyer's 28-ball 57 not out (filled with 5 fours, 2 sixes) propelled the home side to a daunting 199-2. This effort came in the absence of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

In reply, Sri Lanka lost Pathum Nissanka on the very first ball of the steep run-chase. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also removed Kamil Mishara for cheap whereas Dinesh Chandimal, Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne fell after getting a start each. Rohit once again rotated his bowlers with ease as Bhuvi, Venkestesh Iyer chipped in with two wickets each whereas Yuzi Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja maintained the pressure with one wicket apiece. Chahal also became the leading wicket-taker for the Men in Blue after dismissing Shanaka.

Eventually, SL were restricted for 137 for 6 in their full quota of overs (courtesy of Charith Asalanka's gritty 53*) as they were never in the run-chase and struggled to stitch partnerships.

The second and penultimate T20I will be held in Dharamshala on Saturday (February 26).

Rohit Sharma & Co. thrash Sri Lanka in 1st T20I as India attain longest unbeaten streak in shortest format

Rohit Sharma-led Team India won the second and penultimate T20I versus West Indies on Friday evening (February 18), at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Asked to bat first, India posted 186-5 and defended the score by 8 runs despite fireworks from Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran.

The match lived upto expectations as the Windies' batters Pooran and Powell kept the run-chase alive till the end overs before their respective half-centuries went in vain. During the run-chase, India dropped quite a few chances. Ravi Bishnoi and Bhuvneshwar Kumar dropped a catch each whereas some extra runs were also given to the visitors due to the hosts' sloppiness on the field.

Bishnoi gave Pooran a reprieve off senior leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal's bowling. For the unversed, the former had also touched the boundary rope while completing a catch off Chahal's delivery in the series opener. Thus, broadcasters Irfan Pathan and Aakash Chopra interacted with Chahal post the second T20I, where the former reminded Chahal of Bishnoi's fielding.

When Irfan asked 'where is Bishnoi taking you for dinner', Yuzi Chahal left the former all-rounder, Chopra and other presenters in splits by saying, "firstly, I'll take him to the corner.' Here's the video:

Team India were clinical in the first T20I of the three-match series versus Kieron Pollard-led West Indies. Opting to bowl first, the Rohit Sharma-led side restricted Windies for 157/7 and chased down the score with seven balls and 6 wickets to spare on Wednesday (February 16).

India were led by Harshal Patel and debutant spinner Ravi Bishnoi's two wickets apiece to restrict the tall West Indian batting line-up before Rohit & Co. chased down the score in the penultimate over. However, it wasn't an easy ride as the Indian batting line-up were challenged towards the end of the run-chase before Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer's unbeaten fifth-wicket stand completed the formalities.

During the course of the game, India had some injury concerns. Deepak Chahar got injured while fielding. On the other hand, all-rounder Iyer also incurred a blow on his thumb. While nothing has been confirmed regarding the duo's availability, Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan or Mohammad Siraj could be drafted into the playing XI in place of Iyer and Chahar, respectively.

India can also bring in Shreyas Iyer or Ruturaj Gaikwad for the KKR opener Venkatesh. However, they might not risk being a bowler short versus a dented WI batting line-up. Hence, Shardul is very likely to replace Iyer if the latter sits out. Rest of the line-up is expected to be unchanged.

The second and penultimate tie will be held at the same venue, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Friday evening (February 18). The final T20I will also be played here.
