<p>The England skipper, however, made it clear that Roy, the member of their 2019 World Cup wining team, will be a reserve batter for the squad but won't travel to India.</p>

<p>"Jason will be the top-order reserve, absolutely," Buttler said. "Harry, we do feel gives us versatility: he can cover Nos. 1 to 6 in the batting order, which is obviously something that's advantageous in a squad.</p>

<p>"But good players miss out, it's the very brutal nature of sport. There's plenty of people outside the 15 who will have felt that they were in with a really good chance of a spot.</p>

<p>"It's a bad headache to have but a good problem as a selection committee when you have a deep pool of players to choose from."</p>

Social media reacts after BCCI announces Team India squad for World Cup 2023

<p>The BCCI senior selection national committee will meet early next week on September 5, a day after India’s second group game against Nepal in Sri Lanka, to pick the 15-man squad for the World Cup 2023, starting October 5. The deadline for all participating teams to name their respective teams by September 5 is approaching and each side would have the leverage to make last-minute changes by September 28 in case of any injury.</p>

<p>The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will sit with the team management, coach and the captain to select the final 15. Speaking to the media before leaving for Colombo, Rohit and Agarkar noted the World Cup squad could look similar to the Asia Cup one, with a couple of omissions.</p>

<p>While most of the slots are occupied and sealed by selected players, question-mark around numbers four and five (in the batting order), with all eyes on the returning pair of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Both returned to the reckoning after spending a few months on the sidelines due to their injuries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But during the six-day conditioning camp in Alur, Bengaluru, Rahul suffered a groin injury that ruled him out of the first two games against Pakistan and Nepal, respectively. In his absence, keeper-batter Ishan Kishan will be roped into the middle order during those games, as the team management remains unwilling to tinker with the top three this close to the World Cup 2023.</p>

<p>While Suryakumar could get the extended rope as a backup batter in the middle order, Tilak Varma might face the axe after this tournament. In Sanju Samson, India has a backup keeper, but his chances of breaking into the top 15 look bleak, with the coaches, captain and selectors locking Ishan to fill the void if and when required.</p>

<h2>Any exceptions on the cards?</h2>

<p>The absence of ace leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal raised quite a few eyebrows, with captain Rohit commenting that doors are not yet closed for the Rajasthan Royals spinner. Though India could need a turner on the subcontinent tracks during the mega event, trying to make a place for him in the squad would be no less than a headache for the management.</p>

<p>Indian Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma opened up on his and his team’s preparation for the packed schedule, including the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, home ODIs against Australia and the 50-over spectacle. The right-hander batter, alongside the Asia Cup squad, will fly to Colombo on August 30 for the six-team tournament, starting on the same date. India’s opening match is against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Pallekele.</p>

<p>Speaking in an exclusive chat with PTI, Rohit said he is avoiding outside noise – positive or negative – as he continues to prepare for the marquee event in India. Considering the pressure that comes along with the home World Cup (especially in India), Rohit knows what is at stake and is gearing up for the same accordingly.</p>

<p>The right-handed batter, who in the previous edition in England was the top run-getter with 648 runs, including hitting five hundreds, said he wants to be in the same space he was in before the 2019 edition. Rohit added he was much more relaxed and prepared well for the ten-team tournament that brought him results.</p>

<p>"I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup," Rohit told PTI.</p>

<p>"I was in a great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament. I was in good shape, a good mindset. I want to bring that back, and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what were the right things that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person. I want to revisit that thought process of mine personally,” Rohit added.</p>

<p>Answering all the questions ahead of the 1st T20I against Ireland, Bumrah said he kept his eyes and ears open during his recovery period and revealed even during his rehab, he doesn’t use to train for the T20Is, but for the mega event in World Cup.</p>

<p>"We were mindful of the fact there is no Test cricket till the ODI World Cup. In my rehab as well, I was not preparing for a T20 game. I was always preparing for the World Cup competition," Bumrah said in a pre-match presser on Thursday.</p>

<p>Considering India will not play any Tests till December 2023, Bumrah worked on his recovery accordingly. He said he was bowling 10-15 overs during the rehab to feel okay while returning to the 50-over format.</p>

<p>"I have been bowling 10, 12 and even 15 overs. So, I have bowled more overs, that way it becomes easier when less bowling is required. We kept that in mind that we are preparing for one-day competition and not a four-over competition. I have lots of overs under my belt. You have to keep working your way up. From where you left, you are are little down and you keep working your way up," he added.</p>

<h2>‘I am returning without expectations’</h2>

<p>Though the whole of India was hoping for Bumrah to return in time for the World Cup 2023, the seamer himself said he has no expectations, and that he just wishes to enjoy his cricket and deliver for the team.</p>

<p>"I don't really think about expectations. I just want to go enjoy the game as I have come after a long break. Never been away from the game this long. I am coming back to enjoy as I love this game," Bumrah said.</p>

<p>Pakistan's foreign ministry is looking into all aspects of the team's participation in the Men's ODI World Cup later this year in India. It comes as a first step towards taking up long-pending issues from Pakistan's front, which also resulted in the delay of the schedule announcement for the mega event.</p>

<p>As made clear by the outgoing Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, Najam Sethi, the team's participation is subject to their government's approval.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Following the release of the draft schedule by the ICC last week that required every participating team's final approval before going public, PCB wrote to the governing body expressing disapproval over venues for a couple of matches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Per the draft, Pakistan will play Australia in Bengaluru on October 20 and Afghanistan in Chennai on October 23, but have requested to swap venues for these two games. Though both the ICC and the host BCCI denied their request.</p>

<p>Mumtaz added the foreign office is evaluating the security situation for Pakistani cricketers and will offer their view in due course.</p>

<p>"Regarding cricket, Pakistan is of the view that politics should not be mixed with sports. India's policy of not playing cricket in Pakistan is disappointing. We are observing and evaluating all aspects relating to our participation in the World Cup, including the security situation for Pakistani cricketers, and we will offer our views to PCB in due course," Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said.</p>

<h2>Asia Cup 2023 venue changed</h2>

<p>Upon granting hosting rights for this year's Asia Cup to Pakistan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), chaired by Jay Shah - also BCCI's secretary, announced India will not travel to Pakistan for the same owing to long-standing political tensions between two countries.</p>

<p>As a result, Sri Lanka will now co-host the multi-team tournament with Pakistan from August 31 to September 17. While the original host Pakistan will host only four matches, the island nation will host remaining nine games, including all of India's matches.</p>

<p>Upset over last-minute snatching of hosting rights, PCB also threatened to boycott the upcoming World Cup in India.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the schedule for cricket's biggest carnival this year is expected to be out by next week.</p>

<p>“God is kind; it’s not as if I never got injured. But today, they are playing ten months in a year. Give a benefit of doubt to that, but everybody has to look after themselves. IPL is a great thing, but IPL can spoil you also... A little bit of injuries, you won’t play for India. You would take a break. I’m being very open about it,”</p>

<p>“If you have a small injury, you would play in IPL if it’s an important game. At this stage, the cricket board has to understand how much cricket they should play. That is the bottom line. If today, you have resources, money, but you don’t have three or five-year calendars, there’s something wrong with the cricket board there,” Kapil Dev added.</p>

In April, the right-handed batter underwent surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. He has now resumed training to make an unlikely return to the side for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.</p>

<p>Pakistan’s foreign ministry has given a green signal to the Cricket Team to travel to India for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in October-November this year. Following a high-profile meeting earlier, including government officials, the foreign ministry issued a press release stating as they maintain their stance of not mixing politics with sports, they decide to send its cricket team to India for the mega event.</p>

<p>Having said that Pakistan's foreign ministry added the security remains a concern for them and that they have raised the issue with the apex body – the ICC, and the Indian authorities, asking for full-proof security for the touring Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team.</p>

<p>“Pakistan, however, has deep concerns about the security of its Cricket Team. We are conveying these concerns to the International Cricket Council and the Indian authorities. We expect that full safety and security of Pakistan Cricket Team will be ensured during its visit to India,” it said.</p>

<p>With Pakistan all set to travel to India for the World Cup 2023, all eyes will now be on the revised schedule that is yet to get announced by the BCCI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Per the earlier schedule, Pakistan was supposed to play India on Sunday, October 15, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and now, the game will get staged a day prior, i.e., on October 14, at the same venue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah is said to have held a two-hour long closed-door meeting with India men’s team coach Rahul Dravid in Miami ahead of the USA leg against West Indies.</p>

<p>The two powerful men in Indian cricket handpicked several topics and discussed the future plan as we inch closer to two mega events – Asia Cup 2023 and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.</p>

<p>Per a report in Cricbuzz, this meeting happened before the final two T20Is against West Indies in Lauderhill, Florida, on August 12 and 13. <p>Meanwhile, when asked to detail what happened behind the scene with Stokes, Buttler revealed knowing Ben, he decided himself instead of anyone persuading him – something that wouldn’t have worked in the first place.</p>

<p>"To be honest, it was Ben's call," Buttler said. "You all know Ben pretty well by now - I don't think anyone talking to him would persuade him."</p>

<p>"We had some conversations quite a while ago about it and just left it to him to come to me, basically, if he wanted to come back. We're delighted that he feels ready to come back, and any time you can welcome him back into the team is great,” Buttler added.</p>

<p>Though he admitted getting restless over his unavailability for longer duration, the right-hand seamer added he remains optimistic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I'm not someone who gets excited or nervous about anything. I take it in a balanced way. As fast bowlers, you sign up for injuries, you sign up for hard-working days, you sign up for long days... all that is a part of our game. I mean, it's not easy when everybody is playing a lot of cricket. There's so much happening, and you're sitting at home not really being available for selection, but I was optimistic," Krishna told ESPNcricinfo.</p>

<h2>So close, yet so far</h2>

<p>Krishna revealed his road to recovery wasn’t smooth and pleasing and that there were moments when he realised he was far away from returning to the field.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I was a little restless, of course, in the initial phase before the surgery, as to why it was taking so long, especially since I'd started bowling. There were days when I felt great and like 'Oh, I'm ready to play', but then after two more sessions, I'd realise I need a lot more of these and at the same intensity for the body to condition itself,” he added.</p>

<p>Krishna said his perception changed after he went under the knife. He added taking one day at a time, and that’s what made him enjoy his training.</p>

<p>“If I have to look to play at the highest level, the intensity is going to be high. Once the surgery was done, I was prepared that it was going to take time. I changed the way I looked at things. I took it one day at a time. I was enjoying my training; I had a good time with my family. Great things happened. I was very optimistic and positive," Krishna added.</p>

<p>With BCCI’s selection committee set to announce squads for the Asia Cup and World Cup 2023, a fit-again Krishna hopes to make the cut.</p>

<p>“Yes, I really believe. If I ask myself, if I see in the mirror, Imam-ul-Haq is very different from 2019 to 2023. I’m older, much more mature,” he said. “And as a senior, now I have the responsibility. I’ve developed my shots as well. From last four years, my performances have gone up to a good level, so I want to continue that.”</p>
