The Ministry of Railways has announced a complete overhaul of crowd-control measures across the country following a deadly stampede at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) on Monday, which claimed the lives of 18 people. The incident occurred after delays in three trains, including a special service to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, and the simultaneous sale of around 1,500 general category tickets, leading to overcrowding at platforms 13 and 14.
In response to the tragedy, the Railways Ministry plans a six-month campaign aimed at improving passenger safety, especially at high-traffic stations during peak periods such as the ongoing Maha Kumbh. Measures will include the introduction of colour-coded enclosures, enhanced technology to monitor crowds, and specialised crisis-management training for railway staff. Significant improvements will also be made to Delhi’s railway stations to ensure safer passenger movement.

The new initiative

As part of the new initiative, 60 stations, including those connected to Prayagraj, will be designated as ‘high-traffic’ stations. Of these, 35 stations will be monitored in real-time through a centralised ‘war room’. This monitoring system is crucial as a large number of Kumbh devotees travel from states within 300 km of Prayagraj, with passenger traffic at some stations peaking at up to 17 lakh on key days like the 'Mauni Amavasya'. Additionally, over 200 new CCTV cameras will be installed at Delhi’s stations to enhance surveillance.
In terms of law enforcement, Delhi Police has deployed six inspector-rank officers to oversee crowd management at NDLS. The Railway Police Force has also increased its presence at key stations. To further reduce crowding, the sale of platform tickets has been suspended for seven hours each day, though exceptions will be made for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Eyewitnesses to the stampede reported that the situation escalated when a rumour spread about a train changing platforms. However, railway authorities have dismissed this claim, stating that no trains were cancelled and no platform changes occurred. The stampede reportedly began after people descending from a footbridge linking platforms 14 and 15 slipped and fell, causing a domino effect among the crowd.

A driver in Layton, Utah, narrowly avoided serious injury after jumping out of their SUV just moments before it was struck by a passenger train. The incident was captured on security cameras and has since gained significant attention on social media, with the video amassing over 13 million views on X.
The footage, shared by Collin Rugg, shows the SUV approaching a railroad crossing as warning lights flashed and the barrier gate lowered. Instead of stopping, the driver proceeded past the gate, bringing the vehicle to a halt with its rear wheels still on the tracks.

A chartered flight bound for Bangkok from Pune was recalled midair on February 10 after reports emerged that Rishiraj Sawant, son of former Maharashtra minister Tanaji Sawant, had gone missing. The aircraft, carrying Rishiraj and two of his friends, returned to Pune between 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm on the same day.
Authorities later confirmed that Rishiraj had booked the private flight without informing his father, a Shiv Sena leader. As the flight progressed towards Thailand’s capital, the pilots received an order to turn back. Initially sceptical, they complied only after verification from aviation regulators and law enforcement agencies.
The sequence of events began when Pune Police received an anonymous call around 4:00 pm, reporting that Rishiraj had been taken away by unidentified individuals. This led to the registration of a kidnapping case, prompting authorities to take immediate action.
“When we first received instructions to turn the aircraft around, we assumed it was a prank. However, after confirming with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), we realised it was linked to an active police investigation,” an airline executive told PTI.

This incident is believed to be unprecedented, as midair flight recalls are typically reserved for medical or technical emergencies. At the time of diversion, the plane was flying over Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
To avoid any potential disturbance on board, neither Rishiraj nor his friends were informed about the diversion. The in-flight navigation screens were switched off, and passengers remained unaware that they were returning to Pune. “They were relaxing after their meal, unaware of the situation,” the airline official said.

Surprise Round Trip

Upon landing at Pune International Airport, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel immediately boarded the plane and escorted Rishiraj and his companions out. The passengers, surprised by the unexpected landing, reportedly confronted the pilots, who stated that they were following official instructions.
Following the incident, the flight operator received multiple inquiries from the DGCA and provided details of the procedures followed.

A team of astronomers has detected the highest-energy neutrino ever recorded, using a sensor network under construction at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The particle, known as KM3-230213A, was found using the Cubic Kilometre Neutrino Telescope (KM3NeT) and has an energy level 30 times greater than any previously observed neutrino.
Neutrinos, often referred to as ‘ghost particles,’ are nearly massless and can travel through matter without significant interaction. These particles originate from extreme cosmic environments and provide insights into high-energy astrophysical phenomena. The discovery, made by the KM3NeT Collaboration involving over 360 scientists, was published in the journal Nature.

The detected neutrino carried an energy of 220 million billion electron volts, making it significantly more powerful than those produced by particle accelerators like the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The observation supports the theory that such high-energy neutrinos exist and can be traced back to extreme cosmic events such as supermassive black holes, gamma-ray bursts, or supernova remnants.

The Role of KM3NeT

KM3NeT consists of a network of digital optical sensors placed deep in the Mediterranean Sea. These sensors detect the faint bluish light emitted when neutrinos interact with water molecules. The system includes two main detectors: ARCA, positioned at a depth of 3,450 metres off the Sicilian coast, and ORCA, located 2,450 metres deep near Toulon, France. Despite being under construction, the network was operational enough to capture the record-breaking neutrino on 13 February 2023.
Neutrinos are linked to cosmic rays, the most energetic particles in the universe. By identifying their sources, scientists hope to understand the origins of cosmic rays and the mechanisms behind their acceleration. Researchers have proposed 12 potential blazars—active galactic nuclei emitting high-energy radiation—as possible sources of KM3-230213A.

Future Research

The study marks a significant step in neutrino astronomy, providing a new observational tool to investigate astrophysical processes. Scientists will continue refining their understanding of these high-energy particles and their origins, potentially uncovering previously unknown cosmic phenomena. Ongoing development of KM3NeT is expected to enhance future detections and contribute to astrophysical research.

This is not the first time Goyal has used a non-traditional approach to recruitment.
In 2023, he posted a job listing for a chief of staff role, seeking candidates who were “hungry” but inexperienced, empathetic yet willing to make difficult decisions, and had ‘zero entitlement.’
The role required applicants to pay Rs 2 million upfront, that was to be donated entirely to Feeding India, Zomato’s charitable initiative.

‘AI as their second brain’: Zomato’s Deepinder Goyal sets bold new hiring criteria

Bangladesh's interim government has initiated preparations to hold the national election by December 2025, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated on February 10.
Speaking to reporters following a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at the latter’s residence, Fakhrul indicated that the interim government might announce an election roadmap by February 15. He added that BNP has urged the government to expedite the election process, highlighting the need for minimal reforms based on consultations with reform commissions.
Fakhrul reiterated that his party would not accept any elections before the national polls. "We have made it clear that no local government election or any other election will take place before the formation of a national government," he said in response to a query from reporters.
Addressing concerns over recent incidents of vandalism, Fakhrul stated that the government cannot evade responsibility for the unrest. He noted that such incidents had taken place near various government institutions and security forces, posing risks to law and order. "Elements of authoritarian influence remain within the administration, causing harm to the country," he said, calling for legal action against those involved and the recovery of misappropriated public funds.

Fakhrul also raised concerns over alleged harassment of political leaders and activists through legal cases over the past 15 years. He stated that discussions had included the potential withdrawal of these cases, with an agreement reached on the matter. Additionally, he emphasised rising commodity prices as a major governance failure, noting that the interim government had assured them that efforts were underway to address the issue.

Operation Devil Hunt

Regarding Operation Devil Hunt, Fakhrul remarked that past operations had resulted in civilian harm and stressed the importance of ensuring that innocent individuals are not affected.
The meeting, which began at 6:05 pm, was attended by a three-member BNP delegation, including Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, as confirmed by BNP’s Media Cell in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, a separate BNP delegation led by Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan met Chief Election Commissioner AMS Nasir Uddin and other election officials at the Election Commission office. The delegation was briefed on the commission’s preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

A wedding in Murtizapur, Maharashtra, was cancelled after the groom’s CIBIL score failed to meet the expectations of the bride’s family. The decision was made during a pre-wedding meeting between both families, according to a report by The Times of India.
During the discussions, the bride’s uncle requested to check the groom’s CIBIL score, a three-digit credit rating issued by TransUnion CIBIL. Upon reviewing his financial records, the family found that the groom had taken multiple loans and had a poor credit history, raising concerns about his financial stability.

What is a CIBIL score?

The CIBIL score, regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), ranges from 300 to 900 and reflects an individual’s creditworthiness based on loan repayments, credit card usage, and borrowing behaviour. A score above 750 is considered favourable, offering easier access to loans and lower interest rates, while a lower score can lead to loan rejections or higher borrowing costs.
Financial experts recommend maintaining a good credit score by ensuring timely payments of EMIs and credit card bills, managing debt responsibly, and avoiding multiple loan inquiries.

Veteran social activist Anna Hazare has criticised Arvind Kejriwal following the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) poor performance in the ongoing Delhi Assembly elections. As early trends indicate a significant lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Hazare reflected on the reasons he believes have contributed to AAP’s declining electoral fortunes.
In a statement, Hazare emphasised the importance of integrity and selflessness in politics. “I have always maintained that during elections, a candidate’s conduct, thoughts, and life should be pure, without blame, and filled with sacrifice. These qualities help voters place their trust in a leader,” he said.

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gained a strong lead in the Delhi Assembly elections, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took a veiled swipe at opposition INDIA bloc members, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, mocking their electoral performance.

Opposition Disunity in Focus

Abdullah’s remarks highlight the internal tensions within the INDIA bloc, which was formed as a united opposition front against the BJP. His criticism reflects growing dissatisfaction with the lack of coordination among member parties, particularly in state elections.
The decision of Congress and AAP to contest the Delhi elections separately, despite being allies at the national level, has been a contentious issue. Analysts suggest that their divided approach may have weakened the opposition’s ability to challenge the BJP effectively. Abdullah had previously expressed concerns over the INDIA bloc’s direction, stating that the alliance should not exist solely for parliamentary elections and needed a clear long-term strategy.

Impact on Delhi Election Results

The BJP’s early lead suggests that it is on course to unseat AAP and return to power in Delhi after 27 years. Many observers believe that the fragmented opposition vote has played a role in the ruling party’s struggles, with Congress and AAP failing to consolidate their support base.

'Aur lado aapas mein': Omar Abdullah mocks AAP-Congress as BJP gains in Delhi election early trends

Early trends in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections indicate a shift in voter preferences, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gaining ground, particularly in middle-class-dominated constituencies, said a report by India Today. This shift comes after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured decisive victories in both the 2015 and 2020 elections, largely due to strong support from Delhi’s middle-class and Purvanchali voters.
As the counting progresses, the BJP is leading in several constituencies across East Delhi, South Delhi, Central Delhi, and New Delhi areas where middle-class voters hold significant influence. Additionally, the party is performing well in 25 seats where Purvanchali voters—people from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar—play a key electoral role.

One of the most closely watched contests is in the New Delhi constituency, where former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is facing stiff competition from BJP candidate Parvesh Verma. Kejriwal had won this seat comfortably in previous elections, but the current trend suggests a shift in voter sentiment, particularly among middle-class voters, who constitute approximately 40 per cent of Delhi’s electorate.
Political analysts suggest that issues such as governance, local infrastructure, and economic concerns may have contributed to the changing voter dynamics. The BJP’s campaign has focused on positioning itself as an alternative to AAP, highlighting its national leadership and promises of a “double-engine government” to accelerate development in the capital.

AAP, which has governed Delhi since 2015, had built its electoral base on promises of improved public services, including free electricity, water, and better healthcare. However, the early election trends suggest that a section of its traditional voter base may have moved towards the BJP, reflecting dissatisfaction with certain policies or local governance issues.
With counting still underway, final results will determine whether the BJP can convert its early lead into a decisive victory or if AAP can recover lost ground. If the trends hold, Delhi could see a change in government for the first time in 27 years, marking a significant political shift in the capital.

Delhi Election 2025: Middle-class voters help BJP gain lead against AAP in early trends

Early trends in the Delhi Assembly elections indicate that senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and sitting MLA Amanatullah Khan is trailing in the Okhla constituency, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Manish Chaudhary taking the lead.
While multiple rounds of counting remain, the initial figures suggest that the Congress may have played a role in reducing AAP’s vote share in the Muslim-majority constituency.
If Manish Chaudhary secures victory, it would mark the first time since 1993 that a non-Muslim candidate has won the South East Delhi seat. The Okhla constituency has a significant Muslim population, estimated to be around 60 per cent.

Amanatullah Khan has represented Okhla in the Delhi Assembly since 2015 and has been a prominent political figure in the area. His rise to prominence was closely linked to the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Shaheen Bagh, a key issue in the constituency.
Khan first contested the Okhla seat in the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections on a Lok Jan Shakti Party ticket but was unsuccessful. However, in 2015, he won the seat as an AAP candidate, defeating BJP’s Braham Singh by a margin of 60,000 votes. His victory in the 2020 Assembly elections was even more decisive, as he secured 1.3 lakh votes out of the 1.9 lakh votes cast in Okhla.

Delhi Election Results: BJP leads in Amanatullah Khan’s Okhla stronghold

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken an early lead as the counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly election began on Saturday morning. As of 8:50 am, the BJP, led by party president JP Nadda, was ahead in 36 seats, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was leading in 23 seats. The Congress was ahead in only one seat.
The counting process commenced at 8 am across all 70 assembly constituencies, with final results expected to be declared later in the day. The BJP is aiming to end AAP’s decade-long rule in the capital and return to power in Delhi after 27 years. Meanwhile, the Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 years under Sheila Dikshit until 2013, is looking to regain its footing after failing to win a single seat in the last two elections in 2015 and 2020.

Exit Poll Predictions and Initial Trends

Several exit polls had predicted a victory for the BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections. The P-MARQ exit poll projected that the BJP would win between 39 and 49 seats, while AAP was expected to secure 21 to 31 seats. The Congress was predicted to win at most one seat.
The Matrize exit poll suggested a close contest, forecasting 35 to 40 seats for the BJP, 32 to 37 seats for AAP, and one seat for the Congress.

The Peoples Pulse survey projected a dominant win for the party, estimating that it would secure between 51 and 60 seats, while AAP was expected to win between 10 and 19 seats, with the Congress failing to secure any. Similarly, the People's Insight poll estimated a BJP victory in 40 to 44 seats, with AAP securing 25 to 29 seats and the Congress potentially winning one seat.
In contrast, the WeePreside exit poll suggested that AAP could perform better than expected, predicting that it would win between 46 and 52 seats, while the BJP would secure 18 to 23 seats. The Congress was again projected to win no more than one seat.

Political Stakes in Delhi

This election holds significant political stakes for all major parties. For the BJP, a victory in Delhi would mark a significant breakthrough, as the party has not governed the state since 1998. For AAP, which has controlled the Delhi government since 2015, the challenge is to retain its dominance amid an aggressive BJP campaign. Meanwhile, the Congress is striving to remain politically relevant in the capital after consecutive defeats.

Delhi Election Results: BJP crosses majority in early trends, AAP trails

As the counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections commenced on Saturday, early trends showed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in 19 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had taken the lead in 16 as of 8:30 am. The results are being closely watched as AAP seeks to retain power in the national capital, while the BJP aims to break a 27-year streak of being in opposition and form a government in Delhi. The Congress, meanwhile, faces the challenge of securing a presence in the Assembly after failing to win any seats in the last two elections.

Paneer and milk are NOT veg, but same as chicken, fish: Indian doctor's comments spark debate

Saudi Arabia has implemented changes to its visa policy, effective from February 1, 2025, restricting travellers from 14 countries to single-entry visas. The measure aims to prevent unauthorised Hajj pilgrims from entering the country on long-term visit visas.
The new restrictions apply to travellers from Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia, and Yemen. As part of this policy shift, Saudi authorities have suspended one-year multiple-entry visas for tourism, business, and family visits for travellers from these nations.

Key Changes in Visa Regulations

Under the revised rules, visitors from the 14 affected countries can only obtain single-entry visas with a validity of 30 days. The maximum duration of stay has also been set at 30 days. However, Hajj, Umrah, diplomatic, and residency visas remain unaffected by these restrictions.
Saudi officials have stated that the decision follows concerns over the misuse of multiple-entry visas. Some travellers had reportedly entered the country on long-term visit visas and remained beyond their permitted stay to work or participate in Hajj without proper authorisation.

Reason for the Policy Change

Saudi Arabia enforces strict regulations on Hajj participation, allocating specific quotas to each country. In recent years, concerns over overcrowding have intensified due to unregistered pilgrims attending the pilgrimage. The issue became particularly critical in 2024 when over 1,200 pilgrims died due to extreme heat and overcrowding. Authorities identified unauthorised pilgrims as a contributing factor to the crisis.
By limiting visa access, the Saudi government aims to ensure that only registered and authorised pilgrims participate in Hajj, reducing the risks associated with overcrowding.
Officials have described the suspension of multiple-entry visas as a temporary measure. However, no timeline has been provided for a review of the decision. The government plans to assess the impact of the new visa policy before considering any further changes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphasised that adhering to the new rules will help avoid disruptions or penalties during travel.

Around 500 workers at Samsung’s manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, have staged a sit-in protest following the suspension of three employees, two sources with direct knowledge of the situation. According to a report by Reuters, the company has deployed contract workers to maintain operations.
The facility, which produces refrigerators, televisions, and washing machines, employs approximately 1,800 workers. It accounted for one-fifth of Samsung’s $12 billion sales in India during the 2022-23 financial year.
This marks the second major labour dispute at the plant in less than six months. Last year, hundreds of workers staged a five-week strike demanding higher wages and union recognition. That strike concluded in October after Samsung agreed to address some of the workers' concerns.

In a statement, Samsung said that "most of our workers remain dedicated in ensuring that normal business operations continue." The two sources indicated that production has not been affected, as contract workers have been brought in to replace those participating in the sit-in. However, the workers' union contested this claim, stating that there has been some disruption, particularly in the refrigerator production unit.

Union's Claim

A. Soundararajan, a leader of the Samsung India Workers’ Union, stated that the protest would continue, alleging that the suspended workers were not given a fair hearing before disciplinary action was taken. He said the workers were suspended after making demands while standing outside the company administration’s office.

"Discussions with the government are already under way," Soundararajan added. The Tamil Nadu state government has not issued a response regarding the situation.
Samsung, in its statement, said that the suspended workers would face disciplinary action following a formal inquiry. "We continue to make efforts towards a collective agreement with our workers to resolve the issues and for this we remain open to a dialogue facilitated by the government," the company stated. However, it did not specify the reasons for the suspensions.

The Indian government will begin publishing monthly unemployment statistics from April 2025, providing more frequent labour market data to policymakers, a senior official announced on Friday, according to Reuters.
Until now, the government has released unemployment figures on a quarterly basis for urban areas, along with combined annual data for both urban and rural regions. In contrast, monthly unemployment estimates for India have been primarily available through the Mumbai-based private think tank, the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).
Saurabh Garg, Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), confirmed the upcoming shift during an event. "We have already been collecting unemployment data since January, but the release will begin in April," he said.

Garg further explained that the sample design for data collection has been revised since January to enable district-level estimates. This adjustment aims to provide policymakers with more detailed insights that could influence decision-making at the local level.
Geeta Singh Rathore, Director General of the National Sample Survey (NSS), outlined additional changes to the labor force survey. She stated that the government would begin issuing monthly estimates on unemployment, workforce participation, and employment trends across the country.
Moreover, the periodic quarterly labor force survey will now present separate estimates for both urban and rural areas, improving the granularity of the data.

Sample Size

To enhance accuracy, the sample size for the employment survey has been increased from approximately 16,000 to 22,000, Rathore added. This expansion is intended to reduce the margin of error in the reported figures.

Finance Minister Response on Unemployement

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday criticised Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, over his remarks on unemployment in India. Gandhi had stated in Parliament that successive governments over the past 20 years have failed to provide a definitive answer to the youth on the issue of unemployment.
In a post-Budget interview with India Today TV, Sitharaman strongly countered his claims, asserting that during the UPA regime, the Indian economy was at a standstill, banks suffered heavy losses, and several industry leaders shut down operations or left the country.
"Forget employment—during the UPA rule, nothing moved. The economy was stagnant, banks incurred massive losses, industries shut down, and some business leaders even left India," she said.
Sitharaman further argued that Gandhi’s admission of the UPA's failure to generate employment was insufficient.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has taken regulatory action against Asmita Patel, a stock market trader and educator, over allegations of unregistered investment advisory services, misleading claims, and regulatory violations. Patel, often referred to as the “She-Wolf” of the stock market, is under investigation for her trading practices and the financial gains made through her stock market courses, said a report by Economic Times.

SEBI’s Investigation and Findings

SEBI’s inquiry into Patel’s activities focuses on claims that she provided investment advice without the necessary regulatory approvals. Her stock market training programs, including courses such as LMIT and MPAT, reportedly promised high returns, with some claims suggesting returns of up to 300 per cent. However, SEBI’s findings indicate discrepancies between these claims and her actual trading performance.
According to SEBI, Patel and her company, Asmita Patel Global School of Trading Pvt Ltd, made a net profit of Rs 12,28,365 from trading between 2019-20 and January 2024, said a report by Moneycontrol. This figure contrasts with her assertions of managing a Rs 140 crore portfolio through a proprietary trading system.
The investigation further revealed that the total trading volume generated by accounts held by Patel and her company during the period from August 26, 2019, to January 31, 2024, amounted to Rs 152.79 crore. SEBI’s findings also noted claims made during her courses that she was managing Rs 283 crore in funds, which the regulator deemed baseless.

SEBI’s action against Patel is part of a broader effort to regulate unregistered financial advisors and protect retail investors from misleading investment guidance.

Asmita Patel has not yet issued an official statement in response to SEBI’s findings. Legal experts suggest she may challenge the regulatory action, potentially leading to a prolonged legal process. Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal has responded to comments made by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in 2023, in which Altman dismissed the potential of AI startups outside of Silicon Valley. Mittal’s remarks come in light of DeepSeek, a Chinese-developed AI model, matching the performance of OpenAI’s top models and surpassing ChatGPT on the iOS App Store.
In a post on X, Mittal referenced Altman’s 2023 statement, which claimed it was "totally hopeless" for India to compete with OpenAI in developing AI models.
He quoted Altman’s words, adding, "While India hasn’t done it yet, I’m glad somebody made him less smug. Apna time bhi aayega," indicating his belief that other challengers could rise despite Altman’s dismissive attitude.

Mittal’s comments came after DeepSeek’s R1 model, developed at a fraction of OpenAI’s investment, has shown remarkable results. The Chinese AI model, which cost just $6 million to develop, has been able to match OpenAI’s O1 model, a feat that comes despite OpenAI and Microsoft’s extensive investments in the field.

The debate surrounding Altman’s remarks was reignited when a video resurfaced of the OpenAI CEO speaking at an ET Now summit in 2023.

In the same vein, Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath also weighed in, suggesting that India’s short-term mindset and “Jugaad mentality” were hindering the country’s AI ambitions.

Former OpenAI researcher Steven Adler has outlined his concerns about the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, stating that the industry's pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI) poses significant risks.
In a series of posts made on X, Adler, who has worked in AI safety for four years, explained his decision to leave OpenAI in November.
"Honestly, I'm pretty terrified by the pace of AI development these days," Adler wrote. "When I think about where I'll raise a future family or how much to save for retirement, I can't help but wonder: Will humanity even make it to that point?"

He criticised AI labs for engaging in what he called a risky race toward AGI, arguing that the lack of alignment solutions increases the likelihood of unintended consequences. According to Adler, no research lab has successfully addressed the issue of AI alignment and the accelerating pace of development reduces the chances of finding a solution.
"An AGI race is a very risky gamble, with a huge downside. No lab has a solution to AI alignment today. And the faster we race, the less likely it is that anyone finds one in time," he stated.
Adler also noted the competitive pressure among AI companies, which he believes forces labs to cut corners to stay ahead. He called for greater transparency and regulatory measures to prevent unsafe practices.

'A table of honour': Son brings father back as guest to the 5-star hotel he guarded 25 years ago

As the world's largest religious gathering gets underway in India's holy city of Prayagraj, stories of unique monks and saints from the Maha Kumbh festival are going viral on social media. One of them is Harsha Richhariya, being hailed as the country's 'most beautiful' Sadhvi. The 30-year-old woman from Uttarakhand has grabbed attention of users from all over the country as she appeared at the festival in traditional attire, with a Rudraksha rosary and a tilak adorning her forehead.
Users on social media have given Richhariya titles such as “Beautiful Sadhvi” and “Viral Sadhvi.”

Meet Harsha Sadhvi

In one of the viral videos, Harsha Richhariya can be heard saying that she embarked on the spiritual journey seeking peace and fulfillment. “I left everything behind to adopt this new identity,” she can be heard saying to a reporter.

However, as soon as Harsha Richhariya's videos from the Maha Kumbh went viral, users on social media dug up her past social media profile and began sharing photos of her in Western attire and from private vacations.
“If she has become a sanyasini at the age of 30, then what is the need for so much pomp and show and over make up at the Kumbh. Is she going to Indra’s court?” commented a user while sharing her video.

The quiet town of Thiberville in Normandy, France, was left stunned when it inherited an astonishing fortune of $10.2 million from a man who had never set foot in the town.
Roger Thiberville, a Paris-based meteorologist, left behind the vast sum after his passing in August at the age of 91. Besides sharing a name with the town, there was no apparent connection between the benefactor and the community of 1,773 residents, as reported by The Guardian.

Strategic plans for the money

Officials are already discussing ways to make the best use of the funds. A top priority is paying off around $ 410193.30 loan used to construct a new primary school. The inheritance also comes with an added advantage—since Thiberville is a public body, the town is exempt from paying any inheritance tax. This means the entire sum will directly benefit the community.

The unexpected inheritance amounts to five times the town’s annual budget, leaving officials and residents in disbelief. Mayor Guy Paris described the windfall as “exceptional” and shared that the town would manage the money carefully.

A 36-year-old woman in eastern China gave birth to a baby just four hours after getting to know that she was pregnant.
The woman, surnamed Gong, from Hangzhou in eastern Zhejiang province went to seek treatment for hypertension in Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital when she was told that she was over eight months pregnant.
Gong was shocked to hear the unexpected news, as she had earlier been told by the doctors that she was sterile due to womb syndrome.

According to South China Morning Post, Gong and her husband had enquired earlier if she could have a baby through the in vitro fertilisation (IVF) method, but she was rejected by the doctors, who recommended she lose weight first. While her weight was not given in the report, she was described as being tall and fat. She also liked eating desserts.
In early December, Gong experienced numbness in her arms, following which she visited a small clinic. The check-up revealed her blood pressure was extremely high, prompting her to get treatment at a major hospital.
There, she told the doctors that she had missed her periods for many months. An ultrasound revealed that Gong was carrying a baby.
According to obstetricians, Gong’s health was critical, and a caesarean section had to be performed immediately. She gave birth to a baby boy weighing 2 kg.

“There were only four hours from finding out I was pregnant to the birth of my baby,” Gong said happily, as quoted by South China Morning Post.

Not the first case

Gong was not the first case at the hospital. In the past, a 29-year-old woman was admitted and underwent surgery after she was found 23 weeks pregnant.
According to the South China Morning Post, Yang Liwei, an obstetrician at the hospital, said that some women, who are heavier tend not to notice the change in body if their weight does not increase significantly due to pregnancy. Sometimes, fetal movement is not obvious, she added.
“A weak pregnancy reaction is not necessarily a good thing,” Yang said. “Women not knowing they are pregnant will not take a prenatal examination, which makes it hard to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby.”

After wrapping up a successful year with a slate of films including Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Triptii Dimri has been dropped from Aashiqui 3. The romantic film franchise has dropped the successful actress as they feel that she no longer fits the role.
Aashiqui 3 will be filmed by Anurag Basu.
It was earlier reported that Triptii walked out of the film, but reports suggest otherwise. Several reports suggest that she was replaced because the makers felt that she no longer fits the role of the lead heroine.
A report in Times Now quoted a source close to the film, "The fundamental requirement to be the heroine of Aashiqui 3 is innocence reflecting through, and as observed by the team behind the film, Triptii Dimri with her recent films has become too exposed to be cast in this romantic film which demands purity in demeanour from the female lead. Aashiqui is a legendary, soulful love story and the makers do not see Tripti fitting the parameters.”
The source added, "After Animal, there has been no buzz around her. More so, her solo standing at the box office hasn't proven profitable with her recent films."

The Animal actress is reportedly out of Anurag Basu's Aashiqui 3 because of a very controversial reason. Read inside to know why she was dropped from the romantic film.

“Divorce Day” is here on the first Monday of January, the month that often observes most breakups.
A lot of couples wait until the holiday season is over to avoid any mess and break up when the new year begins. January is dubbed the most challenging month for those couples and is often seen as the last straw by them. The month is often called “Divorce Month” in legal circles.
The first month of the year, especially the first half of it, sees the highest divorce filings or new clients, says a USA Today report, citing lawyer Laura Wasser. She added that the first week following the holidays is always very busy.

According to a study by the University of Washington, divorce filings in the state of Washington increased during January when compared to December from 2001 to 2015.
In addition, another study by Richard Nelson LLP revealed that searches like “DIY divorce,” “quickie divorce” and “divorce my partner” spiked by over 100 per cent during the new year, and inquiries for divorce lawyers also rose by 30 per cent in the month.
According to Alberta Tevie, a consultant solicitor at Richard Nelson, many couples see the Christmas people as the last straw in their relationship, as per a Daily Mail report. This is because, in addition to existing problems between the couple, the stress of creating a perfect holiday and money issues lead to it.

There is also the stress of spending time with relatives, cooking elaborate meals and exchanging presents can prove overwhelming for certain people. They often wait till Christmas for the sake of their families but break up shortly after.
Psychotherapist Dr Karen Phillip told the Carousel that this happens because people often make conscious decisions to start the new year fresh. While making goals for the coming year, people reflect on the year and realise they are disappointed in their relationship and want to get rid of the burden in the new year and wish to set themselves free from any restraints.
