Rohit Sharma-led India open their campaign in CWC 2023 on October 8 (Sunday) when they face Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Ahead of India's tournament opener, former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar feels the Indian captain can play the accumulator role, rather than being the aggressor at the top, in the mega event as it will help him score daddy hundreds he is known for. In the recent past, especially since taking over as the Indian captain, Rohit has often tried to go hard at the top to help India start aggressively. However, he has often paid the price for losing his wicket after getting starts.&nbsp;

Thus, Bangar feels Rohit should play the accumulator's role in the upcoming marquee event, which kicks off on October 5 (Thursday) with defending champions England taking on New Zealand.&nbsp;

"I feel the one of an accumulator (on what role should he play?). He is someone who has had phenomenal success as an ODI player. And many times that he has scored his hundred, it's around the 30th over. All those 3 double hundreds that we speak of and rave of so much, the acceleration came toward the last 10-12 overs where he just toys with the bowling," Bangar told Star Sports in response to a question from India Today.

Bangar further pointed out, "So a dangerous Rohit Sharma, if he gets to that 35-over mark, then India is assured of a score of around 350. If he sticks to that sort of a template&nbsp;I know he is trying to do certain other things, maybe take the game away from the bowlers, but he has got a phenomenal, fearless Shubman Gill, he can afford to play the accumulator which will guarantee that India will get a big total. Everyone wants to bat long and score those 150s and 170s. I still want to do that, but it is always nice to do something that you have not done. It only adds up to your list of batting abilities. Unless you do it, you won't know it.

''I know if I play high-risk shots, I will get out a few times but I didn't bother. This was communicated by me to the management that this is how I want to play," the former Indian opener added.&nbsp;

It will be interesting to see if Rohit takes on the bowlers from the word go in the World Cup or starts cautiously before going berserk. Having led India to the Asia Cup title last month, he will be confident leading India in the ICC event. India will look to win their third ODI World Cup and also end their ten-year-long ICC title drought.&nbsp;

CWC '23: Rohit can afford to play the accumulator role and score big hundreds, feels former India batter

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 gets underway on October 5 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Ahead of the tournament-opener, many former cricketers and experts have shared their predictions for the upcoming marquee event in India. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has also made a bold claim by stating that the World Cup could belong to India's in-form batter Shubman Gill.

Shubman has been in exceptional form in 2023, especially in the ODI format. He has so far scored 1,230 runs in 20 innings along with as many as five centuries. Overall, he is the No. 2 ranked ODI batter (after Babar Azam) and ended as the Player-of-the-Series in the recent India-Australia ODIs, at home. Thus, all eyes are on the 24-year-old as one waits to see&nbsp;how he will respond to the World Cup pressure.

Chopra believes Gill will do exceptionally well and this could be his World Cup, with at least two or three hundreds.

<h2>'Gill is a quality player and this World Cup could be his'</h2>

On his YouTube channel, Chopra said, "This tournament could be Shubman Gill’s. In all fairness, the tournament will belong to the top three batters. The good ones will make a lot of records. Shubman Gill will score a lot of runs. I feel he will score at least two hundreds; I won’t be surprised if he hits three as well. One of them could be a daddy hundred if he doesn’t get tired. Gill is a quality player and this World Cup could be his."

“At one point of time, it seemed like he gets stuck against left-arm spin. But he showed he can take that on as well during his last hundred in the Asia Cup. It was his best ODI knock in my opinion,"&nbsp;Chopra added.

<h2>'Shubman Gill has the potential to become the best player of this generation'</h2>

Yuvraj Singh also heaped praise on Gill during his recent interaction with The Week. He stated, "Shubman Gill has the potential to become the best player of this generation. The guy works hard. Since he was 19-20, his attitude has always been like that. He works four times harder than a normal guy since he was a kid. Whatever I have worked with him, he can be the player of this era."

"He (Gill) scored 91 in a Test match which India won (versus Australia in Gabba). He scored two fifties as well on his first tour to Australia which I don't know how many players have done. I am sure he will score runs in Australia, South Africa as well as England," Yuvraj opined.

The former all-rounder added, "He (Gill) is in such a stage right now that he is fearless. He can be a game-changer for India in the World Cup. He opened up the game against Pakistan and put the bowlers under pressure."

Overall, Gill has played 35 ODIs since his debut in 2019. He has&nbsp;scored a remarkable 1,917 runs with six hundreds, at an average of 66.10, with a best of 213.

CWC '23 could belong to THIS Indian batter: Aakash Chopra's bold claim, says 'he will score at least...'

Ahead of the CWC 2023 commencement&nbsp;on October 05 in Ahmedabad, Pakistan spinner and vice-captain Shadab Khan has hailed Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Shadab, who had a forgettable run in Asia Cup 2023, feels Hitman is the 'most difficult to bowl at'. Meanwhile, he also heaped praise on in-form spinner Kuldeep Yadav and called him the most formidable Indian bowler. Kuldeep has been on a stellar run and will enter the upcoming World Cup after helping India win the Asia Cup and returning as Player Of The Tournament.

On Rohit, Shadab told reporters in Hyderabad, "I admire Rohit Sharma a lot and, among the leading batsmen in the world, he is the most difficult to bowl at. Once he gets set, he becomes very dangerous. Among the bowlers, since I am a leg-spinner, it will be Kuldeep Yadav given his recent form."

Rohit had taken Shadab to the cleaners with some big sixes during India and Pakistan's last encounter, which took place during the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup in Colombo. In the face-off, Shadab ended with 71 runs in ten overs and claimed a solitary wicket. The experienced campaigner didn't bowl in Pakistan's first World Cup warm-up game, where they failed to defend 346 versus New Zealand in Hyderabad, and, thus, his form will be closely monitored in Men in Green's last practice clash, where they face Australia on October 03 in Hyderabad.

Shadab will look to draw inspiration from India's in-form spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who ended with nine wickets in the Asia Cup. Lauding the 28-year-old, Shadab said, "As a leg spinner, I like Kuldeep Yadav a lot. He is a great leg spinner and in sublime form. Bowling in such conditions is not easy especially for a spinner as the tracks are flat but he has done well."

Pakistan will open their CWC 2023 campaign versus the Netherlands on October 06 in Hyderabad. After that, they will face Sri Lanka, also in the same city, before travelling to Ahmedabad to lock horns with Rohit-led India in a high-voltage clash at CWC 2023 on October 14.&nbsp;

Rohit Sharma is the most difficult to bowl at, says Shadab Khan ahead of India-Pakistan CWC '23 tie

Shubman Gill has been in exceptional form in 2023. The right-hander has had a dream run across formats, slamming his maiden T20I ton as well, but his form in ODIs made heads turn. The opener has so far slammed as many as five centuries this year and enters the forthcoming ODI World Cup as the No. 2 ranked batter in ICC ODI Rankings. The star opener ended as the Player-of-the-Series in India's three ODIs versus Australia, which ended on Wednesday (September 27), and will start the 50-over mega event on a positive note.

Ahead of India's CWC 2023 opener, where they lock horns with Australia on October 8 in Chennai, former Indian all-rounder and 2011 World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh has made a bold claim on his statesman. Yuvraj feels Gill has it in him to become the 'best player of this generation'.

Shubman Gill has potential to become best player of this generation: Yuvraj Singh's BIG claim ahead of CWC '23

India will enter the ODI World Cup 2023 as a very strong contender to win the title. The home side, under Rohit Sharma, won the Asia Cup last month and won the three ODI series versus Australia 2-1, at home, which concluded on Wednesday (September 27). Rohit Sharma-led Team India will kick off their World Cup campaign on October 8 when they face Australia in their respective openers in Chennai. Ahead of the Chennai battle, former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan discussed India's playing XI for the Australia clash.&nbsp;

Gavaskar has backed captain Rohit, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, vice-captain Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja as the top seven whereas named Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah as the frontline bowlers. Thus, his XI doesn't have R Ashwin -- who was included in India's final 15 after Axar Patel got ruled out on Thursday (September 28) -- but the Little Master feels the 37-year-old could be added if India go ahead with three spinners.

Gavaskar's India XI for World Cup opener against Australia: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah.

Speaking on Star Sports, he said, "You can pick three fast bowlers in Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah or else can pick two fast bowlers because you also have Hardik Pandya then Ashwin will definitely be there."

On the other hand, former all-rounder Irfan stated, "I completely agree with the top 7. But it boils down to the bowling department. I want India to play five proper bowlers. Since you have Hardik as the sixth bowler you should go with bowlers having wicket-taking abilities. It is because the pitches India will get now will have dew factor involved so then you need to have a solid bowling line-up. So you either pick three pacers or if you feel like you want to get someone to accompany Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja...on a turning track, and if Ashwin is good enough the pick him."

So you either pick three pacers or if you feel like you want to get someone to accompany Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja...on a turning track, and if Ashwin is good enough the pick him." CWC 2023: Will R Ashwin get a game vs Australia? Sunil Gavaskar, Irfan Pathan pick India's XI for opening game

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has backed KL Rahul to bat at No. 4 during the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup at home. Rahul has been in superb form ever since he returned to international cricket during Asia Cup 2023 following a lengthy injury layoff. He scored a brilliant 111 not out versus Pakistan in the Super Four round, followed by a vital 39 versus Sri Lanka. In the recently-concluded India-Australia ODIs, Rahul returned with 58 not out, 52 and 26. He has batted at No. 4 in four out of the last seven games and Yuvraj has backed him to bat at the crucial spot in the mega event.&nbsp;

Speaking to the Week, Yuvraj suggested that India should make Rahul bat at No. 4 and give him 15-20 games at that position. “India want K.L. Rahul to bat at No. 4 now. They have to give him 15-20 games in that position. In the Asia Cup, coming back from injury, he scored a 100. On a spinning track [in Colombo, against Sri Lanka] he scored a vital 39 runs. He is looking good right now, so they need to stick with him at No. 4," the 2011 ODI World Cup winner said.

Yuvraj highlighted the important of the No. 4 spot, which has been India's Achilles heel since the last edition of the 50-over World Cup. He added, "No. 4 is a crucial position, especially if the openers get out cheaply. No. 4 batsman needs to have the technique to leave the ball, play the short ball well, and try and build partnerships.”

The 41-year-old batted at No. 4 in 108 matches during his illustrious career and understands the importance of the position. Speaking about India's batting order, it might be tough for Rahul to bat at No. 4 as Shreyas Iyer has been looked upon to fulfill the role at the said spot. Rahul, meanwhile, will most likely bat at No. 5 throughout the upcoming ODI World Cup. He has fared brilliantly at No. 4 and 5.&nbsp;

At No. 4, Rahul averages an exceptional 60 and 50 at No. 5. Such has been his performance&nbsp;at both the positions that he effortlessly fits in the middle-order. Thus, he will be an important player for India in the upcoming showpiece event.

World Cup 2023: India need to stick with KL Rahul at No. 4, feels 2011 WC winner Yuvraj Singh

Rohit Sharma-led India is gearing up for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which gets underway on October 5 in Ahmedabad. India will look to win the&nbsp;coveted trophy for the third time, second as hosts.&nbsp;In the 2011 ODI World Cup, MS Dhoni-led Men in Blue had a memorable campaign as they beat Sri Lanka, who were also the co-hosts, in the final to win by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 2. However, it wasn't a smooth run for Team India, who didn't win it easy versus the Netherlands and Ireland and lost to South Africa in the group stage.&nbsp;

India started the tournament by beating Bangladesh convincingly in the tournament-opener, played a tied game versus England, won against Ireland and the Netherlands but not comprehensively, and lost a close game versus South Africa before getting on a winning streak to eventually lift the coveted title. Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who ended as the Player-of-the-Series with 362 runs and 15 wickets, recalled Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar's advice&nbsp;after Dhoni &amp; Co.'s three-wicket loss to the Proteas, in Nagpur, defending 297.&nbsp;

As quoted by Hindustan Times, Yuvraj&nbsp;said, "Now, distraction is a bit more because that time there was no social media. There was distraction with media and people. We were trying to focus on the game, and in the world cup, we had lost to South Africa - a game we should have won. The media started to go berserk. Sachin sat down with the team and said, 'we need to stop watching television, stop reading the papers. Use our headphones when we are going through crowds in airports. Just focus on the world cup'. The team agreed, we just followed that and it really worked."

He added, "Because there's anyway so much pressure. Problem with India is that, people think only the Indian team will win. It's a big World Cup, there are so many good teams out there, and we got to be really focussed on your tasks at hand."

Tendulkar's words did the trick for India, who went on to beat West Indies, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively, to lift the title after the SA setback. He had a stellar run in the 2011 edition, ending with 482 runs with two centuries (second-most overall). It was his last appearance in the ODI World Cup, his sixth overall, where India returned with the title after 28 years. Will Rohit &amp; Co. replicate Dhoni-led India's 2011 heroics? 'We need to stop...': Yuvraj Singh recalls Sachin Tendulkar's advice after SA loss during CWC '11

Despite losing the third and final ODI, on Wednesday (September 27),&nbsp;India had a lot of positives coming out from their just-concluded three ODIs versus Australia at home. In their last series prior to the CWC 2023 edition, which starts on October 05, India tested their benched players once again and also gave two games to R Ashwin, who returned to the ODI setup after a long gap -- having played his last in early 2022 -- with Axar Patel being injured during the Asia Cup.

Ashwin replaced Axar -- who is dealing with&nbsp;a left quadriceps strain -- and played the opening two encounters to account for four wickets. He looked in good rhythm&nbsp;but suspense persists regarding his World Cup spot as no official update has come on Axar's fitness. All teams have to announce their final 15 prior to September 28 and any changes after that date would need&nbsp;approval from the ICC. With suspense continuing on Ashwin's place, head coach Rahul Dravid revealed there are 'no changes' as of now on the final 15, which was announced early this month.&nbsp;

“We have to wait for an official confirmation or a decision on that. The NCA is in touch with the selectors and Ajit (Agarkar) so I will not make any comments on that. If there is any change you will get to hear about it officially, as of now there are no changes,"&nbsp;Dravid said in a press conference after the India-Australia ODIs on Wednesday.

After the Rajkot ODI, Dravid stated that he is 'really happy' with how things have shaped up for Team India with regard to their CWC 2023 preparations. "Jasprit got a couple of games, and bowled his quota of 10 overs. Siraj suffered from a bug but got back and was able to bowl today. It was good to see how Ashwin bowled in the first two games. KL and his keeping through 50 overs, returning after 6 months, has been great. Shreyas has got some good knocks in the last couple of games. Really happy with how things are going and hopefully we can keep the momentum going into the World Cup."

<section itemprop="articleBody">
Dravid added, "There are always areas you want to improve on, and we have ticked a lot of boxes. It's nice to see that the guys who have been out with injury, been away from a while, from our perspective, they've been able to get some good cricket, been able to spend time in the middle, get some runs, take some wickets, but there are always little things that you can improve."

<section itemprop="articleBody">
"It's going to be a long, tough tournament. We're constantly looking to improve as a team, even when we have results going our way."

India have reached Guwahati on Thursday evening (September 28), with Ashwin in the squad, for the two warm-up games -- on September 30 (versus England) and October 03 (versus the Netherlands in Trivandrum).

The final 15 players are set to be announced by the BCCI on Thursday evening.

'As of now....': Rahul Dravid on whether R Ashwin will be part of India's CWC '23 squad

After an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three ODIs versus Australia, India entered the third and final match&nbsp;in Rajkot with an aim to inflict a clean sweep on Wednesday (September 27). However, Rohit Sharma-led India conceded the game by 66 runs in what was both the sides' last international outing before the CWC 2023 edition, which starts on October 05.

Being asked to bowl, India conceded 352 for 5 as Australia rode on Mitchell Marsh's 96, Steve Smith's 74, Marnus Labuschagne's 72 and David Warner's 56. In reply, India started off on a positive note with fifties from Rohit (81) and Virat Kohli (56) before losing their way to get all-out for 286 in 49.4 overs. After the game, India's head coach Rahul Dravid summed up India's CWC '23 preparations and feels 'really happy' with how things have been for the home side heading into the marquee event.

Ind vs Aus: Rahul Dravid 'really happy' with Team India's CWC'23 preparations despite 3rd ODI loss

Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa heaped praise on Shreyas Iyer and feels the middle-order batter has it in him to lead India in the future. Iyer returned to international cricket after a long time, due to back issues, during the Asia Cup 2023 edition. However, he batted only once and missed the Super Four stage and the final, won by Rohit Sharma-led India by ten wickets, as his back issues resurfaced, putting his ODI World Cup spot in danger. Thus, the ongoing three ODIs between India and Australia, at home, became more important for Iyer to prove his form and fitness.

After being dismissed for 3 in the series opener, won by India by five wickets in Mohali, Iyer came into his own in the second and penultimate ODI, in Indore, and slammed a brilliant 105. After Iyer's third ODI century, Uthappa lavished huge praise on the talented Indian batter and backed him as a potential captain for the future. On his YouTube channel, he said,&nbsp;"Shreyas Iyer, what a relief! It's been a long time coming. We've always known that he is a high-class player. In my books, he is someone who can go on to lead India as well in the future. Shreyas is a solid player and he showed us why in that hundred against Australia."

Uthappa further stated,&nbsp;"Just the pace at which he batted, the control, and the connection. To have a couple of low scores and then have a freak kind of spasm that keeps him out of action for some time. To come back like that, especially after the injury, is not easy and takes a lot of character."

On the other hand, Uthappa -- who was part of India's terrible run in 2007 ODI World Cup and emphatic win in the inaugural T20 World Cup later that year -- also lauded in-form Indian opener Shubman Gill. Gill scored an impressive 104 in the Indore ODI. He has already slammed five hundreds in the format so far this year and will enter the forthcoming ODI World Cup, at home, as the No. 1 ranked Indian batter (second overall after Babar Azam). Uthappa feels he is the next big thing in Indian cricket and certain to take over from Virat Kohli as the upcoming batting star of the country.&nbsp;

"If you have to look at a few things leading into the World Cup, one would be Shubman Gill's form. He is in such wonderful form that you want to protect that a little bit. You want to make sure that you save all those runs for an important tournament like the World Cup. All signs lead to Shubman Gill being the next big thing in Indian cricket. It certainly seems like he is going to take over from Virat Kohli as the next big Indian batting star. Here's hoping that he continues his good form, goes into the World Cup feeling exceptionally good, and scores lots and lots of runs for India. Hopefully, he sets high standards for himself and could very well be the Man of the Series."

Gill has been rested for the third and final ODI between India and Australia, being held in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27). Iyer, however, will hope to replicate his recent performance in the final encounter to help India whitewash the three ODIs. India won the first two games by five wickets and 99 runs (DLS method), respectively.

In my books, he is someone who can go on to lead India as well in the future. Shreyas is a solid player and he showed us why in that hundred against Australia." Uthappa further stated, "Just the pace at which he batted, the control, and the connection. To have a couple of low scores and then have a freak kind of spasm that keeps him out of action for some time. To come back like that, especially after the injury, is not easy and takes a lot of character." Also read: Ind vs Aus: Team India star Shubman Gill mentions Rohit Sharma's best quality as a player and captain On the other hand, Uthappa -- who was part of India's terrible run in 2007 ODI World Cup and emphatic win in the inaugural T20 World Cup later that year -- also lauded in-form Indian opener Shubman Gill. Gill scored an impressive 104 in the Indore ODI. He has already slammed five hundreds in the format so far this year and will enter the forthcoming ODI World Cup, at home, as the No. 1 ranked Indian batter (second overall after Babar Azam). Uthappa feels he is the next big thing in Indian cricket and certain to take over from Virat Kohli as the upcoming batting star of the country. Hopefully, he sets high standards for himself and could very well be the Man of the Series." Gill has been rested for the third and final ODI between India and Australia, being held in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27). Iyer, however, will hope to replicate his recent performance in the final encounter to help India whitewash the three ODIs. India won the first two games by five wickets and 99 runs (DLS method), respectively. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. 'Someone who can lead India in the future as well' - Robin Uthappa's BIG claim on Shreyas Iyer

Jasprit Bumrah ended with his second-most expensive bowling figures during the India-Australia third and final ODI on Wednesday (September 27) in Rajkot. With the return of regulars such as captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India were asked to bowl first on a flat track in Rajkot and Australia posted a mammoth 352/5, riding on fifties from their top four (Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne). Bumrah accounted for three scalps but conceded 81 runs in his full quota of 10 overs to register his second-most expensive spell.&nbsp;

Back then, Bumrah -- who was new to international cricket after his debut in early 2016 -- was hammered left, right and centre as he conceded 81 runs in nine overs. He, however, accounted for the wicket of Alex Hales and Chris Woakes.

Talking about his spell in the Rajkot ODI versus Australia, Bumrah removed Labuschagne (74), Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell but was taken to the cleaners during his first four overs. After four overs, he conceded 45 runs but came back strongly to give away just 36 in his last six.&nbsp;

Shubman Gill has been in terrific form in 2023, especially in the ODI format. The right-hander has already slammed as many as five centuries in the 50-over format and will be entering the forthcoming ODI World Cup as the No. 1 ranked Indian batter (second overall, behind Pakistan's Babar Azam). Ahead of the third and final ODI between India and Australia, in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27), Gill spoke at length about Indian captain Rohit Sharma and mentioned the best quality of Hitman as a player and captain.

In an interview with Jio Cinema, Shubman hailed the 36-year-old Indian captain Rohit and stated, "He gives a lot of freedom to players to express themselves. He tells the coaches as well to let the players make their own decisions on the field and that the player should be the best judge, and that is his best quality as a player and captain."

Ind vs Aus: Team India star Shubman Gill mentions Rohit Sharma's best quality as player and captain

R Ashwin's ODI comeback during the ongoing Australia home series has&nbsp;made heads turn. Ever since India lost the services of Axar Patel due to injury concerns during the Asia Cup, India recalled the senior off-spinner back into the ODI setup just before the ODI World Cup at home, which kicks off on October 5. Ashwin has impressed in the opening two games, with four wickets, and former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar feels the wily off-spinner has sealed his World Cup spot.&nbsp;

Sharing his thoughts on the Ashwin versus Axar debate, Little Master Gavaskar said,&nbsp;"The way he has bowled in the last two matches, I think he has made the cut for the World Cup squad. If there is even a hint of doubt on Axar Patel's fitness, whether he'll be completely fit for the entire World Cup; because any injury can be a recurring one and he needs to be careful. If the team management think they can't take that chance with Axar because it is the World Cup and everyone wants their squad to be 100 percent fit; so if there are any doubts then Ashwin could make a comeback."

‘He has made the cut’: Sunil Gavaskar backs R Ashwin in India's CWC '23 squad, with Axar Patel unfit

During the Asia Cup 2023 edition, former New Zealand cricketer-turned-commentator Simon Doull made a big claim about&nbsp;Team India. Doull&nbsp;reckoned that India's cricket is too statistics-driven and, hence, it becomes a reason for their downfall in big ICC matches. In addition, he pointed out that the reason for India's failures is that they don't resort to a fearless brand of cricket, which would mean compromising on stats.&nbsp;

"Fearless cricket is there issue," Simon Doull told Sky Sports. "They don’t play fearless cricket enough. They play statistics-driven cricket and they are too worried about their stats too often. And to me, that is the one area I am concerned about their batting side," he added.

Now, former Indian pacer S Sreesanth has responded to Doull's statement and made a big claim. "New Zealand are coming to India. They will get to know if India play attacking cricket or not. We will thrash them. They got lucky in 2019 with MS Dhoni getting run out due to a direct hit. What did you do after playing the final? They made a team like England win the World Cup, who hadn't won a 50-over World Cup until then. New Zealand are never going to win. Yes, they might win in the future, but it will be embarrassing for them this time. If you get a chance address the media, please think before you speak. If you are ready to give, you should be able to take it also." Sreesanth told&nbsp;Sportskeeda.

Sreesanth added, "I just want to tell Simon Doull that Indians are going to have a blast against New Zealand. New Zealand are going to learn a lot against India. Yes, there have been certain matches where they have done well against us, especially in ICC events. But those times have gone now. If any of these cricketers get to know what you said, and if Virat is made aware of it, it will be a lot of fun to watch that match."

At present, India are busy with their three-match home ODIs versus Australia with the third and final tie currently being held in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27). The home side&nbsp;already have the series in the pocket with an unassailable 2-0 lead. On the other hand, a second-stringed New Zealand&nbsp;beat Bangladesh 2-0, on Tuesday (September 26),&nbsp;in the three ODIs in the Bangla Tigers' den.

'If Kohli or any...': Sreesanth slams Doull for stat jibe, says India will 'have a blast' vs NZ in CWC '23

During the Asia Cup 2023 edition, Virat Kohli slammed his 47th ODI hundred and took his overall century tally to 77, only 23 behind Sachin Tendulkar (with most international tons). Over the years, Kohli has broken several records achieved by Tendulkar, however, question remains if he will be able to go past the Master Blaster's century record. In this regard, former South Africa captain AB de Villiers -- who has shared the dressing room with Kohli for a long time in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) camp -- has made a bold statement.&nbsp;

On his YouTube channel, De Villiers claimed, "I don't think that is his focus. That is not his main drive. He has never been all about myself kind of a guy. He wants to win World Cups for his team and be part of a successful unit in all formats of the game. He is a team player, and that's what you see on the field (with) all those emotions coming out. Especially when he is fielding, there is nothing really to gain for him, but you could see that emotion, which tells you how much it means to him to win."

At present, the 34-year-old is gearing up for India's third and final ODI versus Australia in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27). He was rested for the opening two games with the ODI World Cup just a few days away.

Kohli will be desperate to make a mark for India in the forthcoming ODI World Cup at home. 'That is not his main drive': De Villiers says Kohli not 'focused' on breaking Tendulkar's century record

Virat Kohli is gearing up for the third and final ODI between India and Australia, in Rajkot, on Wednesday (Sep&nbsp;28). This will be India's last international game before their CWC 2023 opener, on October 8, where they meet Australia in Chennai. The showpiece event kicks off on October 5 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

Kohli will turn 35 during the forthcoming World Cup. Not much has been revealed by Kohli in terms of his future in international cricket. However, AB de Villiers -- South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend -- feels it might be a good time for Kohli to call it quits from the 50-over format if India win the CWC 2023 edition at home.&nbsp;

Speaking on his YouTube channel, De Villiers said, "I know he loves travelling to South Africa (for the 2027 World Cup), but it's very difficult to say. It is a long time away. Let's focus on this one first, I think that's what Virat Kohli would tell you. I think if they win this World Cup, it might not be a bad time to say, 'Thank you very much. I am maybe just going to play Test cricket for the next few years and a little bit of IPL, enjoy the last bit of my career, have enough family time, and say goodbye to everyone'."

"But he is in incredible shape and is mentally still there. He has been rested from time to time, which I think is a great move. So, I think the hunger and the fire will still be there," De Villiers added.

Virat Kohli is gearing up for the third and final ODI between India and Australia, in Rajkot, on Wednesday (Sep 28). This will be India's last international game before their CWC 2023 opener, on October 8, where they meet Australia in Chennai. The showpiece event kicks off on October 5 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Kohli will turn 35 during the forthcoming World Cup. Not much has been revealed by Kohli in terms of his future in international cricket. However, AB de Villiers -- South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend -- feels it might be a good time for Kohli to call it quits from the 50-over format if India win the CWC 2023 edition at home. I am maybe just going to play Test cricket for the next few years and a little bit of IPL, enjoy the last bit of my career, have enough family time, and say goodbye to everyone'." "But he is in incredible shape and is mentally still there. He has been rested from time to time, which I think is a great move. So, I think the hunger and the fire will still be there," De Villiers added. Also read: Not Bumrah, Kohli or Kuldeep! Virat Kohli might say 'thank you very much' if India win CWC '23: SA legend AB de Villiers' BOLD remark

India beat Australia by 99 runs (DLS method) to win the second and penultimate ODI and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three ODIs, with the final game on Wednesday (September 28) in Rajkot. R Ashwin, who returned to the ODI format after his last ODI in early 2022, has made a strong case to be included in India's final 15 for the upcoming CWC '23 edition.&nbsp;However, former Australia captain Aaron Finch has made a bold statement. Finch believes Ashwin -- who has a strong chance to replace an unfit Axar Patel from the World Cup squad -- won't make the cut and might be there as a mentor for the current group.&nbsp;

Ashwin last played an ODI in early 2022 during India's tour of South Africa. However, an injury to spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel during Asia Cup 2023, reopened the doors for Ashwin in the shorter format. In the two ODIs versus Australia, he has accounted for four wickets so far and, thus, has made a strong statement with Axar ruled out of the third and final game in Rajkot. Axar, who is dealing with a left quadriceps strain, is expected to return for the CWC '23 warm-up games. If he returns, it will be interesting to see if Ashwin remains part of India's World Cup plans.

Nonetheless, Finch doesn't think Ashwin will be part of the upcoming ICC event. Speaking on Star Sports, he said, "I think he (Ashwin) might struggle to make it to the final 15, but as somebody who has played so much cricket, I think the rest of the group that is with the Indian team for this current series against Australia, they could learn so much about big gameplay."

<h2>'Wouldn't be surprised if he's there as a mentor'</h2>

"Because Ashwin is somebody that stands up in big games, whether it's a Test match or a T20 game, he has done it all throughout his career. So I wouldn't be surprised if he's there at the moment as a mentor around the group, but I don't see him making that last 15, unfortunately," Finch, who led Australia to T20 World Cup glory in 2021, further added.

India and Australia will lock horns in the third and final ODI in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27). All CWC '23 participating teams need to announce their final 15 prior to September 28. Hence, it will be interesting to see if Axar regains fitness and what the future has in store for Ashwin in the format.&nbsp;

Don’t see him in India's CWC '23 squad, might be there as mentor: Ex-Australia skipper on R Ashwin

Yuzvendra Chahal, who is out of India's ODI setup, lauded R Ashwin after the wily off-spinner's 3 for 41 in the rain-affected second and penultimate game between India and Australia in Indore on Sunday (September 24). Having a 1-0 lead, KL Rahul-led Men in Blue were asked to bat first on a flat track at the Holkar Stadium, Indore and they rode on Shubman Gill's 104, Shreyas Iyer's 105, Rahul's 52 and Suryakumar Yadav's 37-ball 72* to post 399/5.

In reply, Australia's chase got reduced to 317 in 33 overs after the second and final rain break. They never got going as Ashwin (3 for 41) and Ravindra Jadeja (3 for 42), after Prasidh Krishna's early strikes, dismissed the Aussies for 217 in 28.2 overs as the hosts won by 99 runs (DLS method). After Ashwin's brilliant spell, Chahal lauded the senior pro and took to his official account on X to share a heartfelt post.

During the match, Chahal wrote on X -- formerly known as Twitter --&nbsp;"Ravichandran Ashwin name is enough".

With Axar Patel confirmed to miss the third and final ODI versus Australia, in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27), calls for Ashwin's inclusion in India's CWC 2023 squad has increased following his good performances in the Australia ODIs. As of now, Axar remains the first-choice but if he continues to be unfit, Ashwin might get the nod in the final 15. All teams have to announce their final 15 before September 28.

The third and final ODI will also see the return of regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.&nbsp;

Ind vs Aus: Yuzvendra Chahal shares heartfelt message for R Ashwin after 2nd ODI

India beat Australia by 99 runs, via DLS method, to win the second and penultimate ODI on Sunday evening (September 24). With this win, KL Rahul-led Men in Blue have taken an unassailable lead in the three ODIs with the final game to be held on Wednesday (September 27) in Rajkot.

After India won the series, former England captain Michael Vaughan has made a big claim on Rohit Sharma's team ahead of the forthcoming CWC 2023 edition in India.

Vaughan took to X and wrote, “It’s quite clear to me... Whoever beats #India will win the WC... India’s batting line up on Indian pitches is ridiculous... Plus they have all the bowling options covered... it’s the only the pressure of the burden that could stop them.”

Talking about the penultimate ODI, Shreyas Iyer's 105 and Shubman Gill's 104 propelled India to a mammoth 399 for 5 in 50 overs; their highest score versus the Aussies in the 50-over format.

Stand-in captain Rahul (52) and Suryakumar Yadav (37-ball 72*) also made significant contributions before Australia's target was revised to 317 in 33 overs, thanks to a rain break.

'Whoever beats India will win CWC '23': Vaughan's BOLD claim after KL Rahul & Co. win ODI series vs Australia

Team India thrashed Australia by 99 runs (DLS method) in the second and penultimate ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series on Sunday (September 24) in Mohali. Asked to bat first, India rode on centuries from Shubman Gill (104), Shreyas Iyer (105). Stand-in captain KL Rahul's 52 and Suryakumar Yadav's 72* propelled the Men in Blue to 399/5.

In reply, Australia were bundled out for 217 in 28.2 overs after a rain break revised the target to 317 in 33 overs.

With this win, India are set to enter the forthcoming ODI World Cup, at home, as the No. 1 ranked side in the format. Their preparations are going great with the middle-order looking in good form whereas regulars such as captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah will also join the squad for the third ODI.

There were concerns over Shreyas Iyer -- who returned to international cricket after a long injury layoff during Asia Cup 2023 -- also booked his CWC spot with a fine 105 on Sunday evening.&nbsp;

Speaking on his YouTube channel, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra lauded Iyer for his fluent knock, laced with 11 fours and 3 sixes at 116.67.&nbsp;

"He was under pressure. But the team was convinced that Shreyas is our main player and we are going to stick with him. The way he hit a shot over covers at the start and then played those drives, he was brilliant. He was in total control."

"It was not like there were edges or catches were being dropped. There was nothing of that sort. He batted very well. For some time at the start, it seemed like Shreyas Iyer was Shubman Gill and Shubman Gill is Shreyas Iyer, who is coming back from injury,"&nbsp;Chopra&nbsp;opined.

Further, Chopra was in awe of Suryakumar Yadav following his belligerent 37-ball 72, including 6 fours and equal number of sixes at 194.59. "I am not going to call him Suryakumar Yadav, but Sixer Kumar Yadav. He hits so many sixes. Everyone was saying, go Green. He said we need to go Green near the boundary line. It was an amazing innings. He is a 360-degree player and has validated the management’s decision to back him for the World Cup. This is something to admire," added Chopra.

A lot of questions have also been raised on Surya's CWC spot. While he is the final 15, his form remained a cause of concern for Team India. With two successive fifties in the ongoing Australia series, he has also cemented his position and will look to score a big in the final ODI.

Thus, it is a huge achievement for Indian cricket as the women's team have created history in the Asian Games.

After the win, Mandhana became emotional and recalled javelin star Neeraj Chopra's Tokyo 2020 moment -- where&nbsp;he won gold (which became India’s first-ever Olympic medal in athletics).&nbsp;

Mandhana told ANI, "This is very special. We have seen this on TV. When Neeraj Chopra won the Gold, I had a match...The manner in which National Anthem was played and India's National Flag went up, I think it was pretty special and I had tears in my eyes...Really happy that we could contribute to the medal tally of the Indian contingent...Gold is Gold...Really happy that we gave our best today."

'Had tears in my eyes': Mandhana on India women's Asian Games gold, recalls Chopra's Tokyo 2020 feat

Axar Patel has been ruled out of the third and final ODI between India and Australia to be held in Rajkot on Wednesday (September 27). The spin-bowling all-rounder,&nbsp;who's dealing with a left quadriceps strain, missed the Asia Cup 2023 final after&nbsp;getting&nbsp;injured&nbsp;during the Super Four game versus Bangladesh. However, he is expected to return for the CWC 2023 warm-up games.&nbsp;

With Axar remaining unfit, R Ashwin's hopes of entering the CWC squad has increased further. Ashwin&nbsp;made a comeback in the ODI format after a long gap during the Australia series. His last ODI appearance was in early 2022, but the wily off-spinner has claimed four wickets in two games and thus, voices continue to grow for his late inclusion.

Nonetheless, as per a report in Cricbuzz, Axar is expected to return for the World Cup warm-up games. This could put Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee&nbsp;in a serious dilemma as they have to name the final 15-player World Cup squad by September 27.

As of now, no replacement has been announced for Axar for the third and final ODI. The final encounter will see the return of regulars such as captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah whereas the likes of Shubman Gill and all-rounder Shardul Thakur have been rested.&nbsp;

<section itemprop="articleBody">
It remains to be seen if Axar retains his spot or if Ashwin will make the cut eventually. The India-Australia three&nbsp;ODIs is led by the home side after they achieved an unassailable lead with a 99-run win (DLS method) in the second game&nbsp;on Sunday (September 24) in Indore.&nbsp;

Talking about the CWC warm-up games, India will play England (on September 30 in Guwahati) and the Netherlands (on October 03 in&nbsp;Thiruvananthapuram) before their tournament opener versus Australia in October 08 in Chennai. The upcoming ICC event begins on October 05 in Ahmedabad with defending champions England taking on New Zealand.

India vs Australia: Rahul Dravid reveals why Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are rested for first two ODIs

CWC 2023: How Team India has fared in last six editions

Jasprit Bumrah made an international comeback after 11 months during the Ireland T20Is in Dublin last month. His comeback was eagerly waited as India is gearing up for the ODI World Cup at home, which kicks off on October 05. Having suffered from back issues, Bumrah missed the entire T20 World Cup last year,&nbsp;the Bangladesh tour, Australia home series, WTC final and IPL 2023. However, he looked in fine form during the Ireland series.

Bumrah ended the Ireland T20Is with four wickets from two games to end with the Player-of-the-Series award. Following this, the 29-year-old was right on the money with the ball in the Asia Cup 2023 edition as well. He ended with four wickets in as many matches at an average of 17.75. He made the ball move in the early overs and kept it tight to account for key wickets in India's title run. Now, the speedster is involved in India's three ODIs, at home, versus Australia with the series opener on Friday (September 22) in Mohali.

Ahead of KL Rahul-led India's Mohali ODI versus Pat Cummins &amp; Co., Suresh Raina -- India's former all-rounder and 2011 World Cup winner -- heaped praise on Bumrah and feels the pacer has worked on his run-up and increased it as well. In addition, he feels Bumrah is close to returning to his very best with the CWC 2023 edition only few weeks away.&nbsp;

Speaking on JioCinema, Raina said, "He has just bowled about 5 or 6 overs till now. Rohit Sharma is with him and monitoring how effective he can be with the new ball. If we want to dismiss Australia's top order, we have Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah for that. The line and speed with which he's bowling, it's swinging fully round the wicket. Even in his run-up, you can see, he has increased it a little bit, but the swing in his finishing line is praiseworthy. He's worked very hard especially with his injuries to his back and knee, after his run-up, the extra four or five yards he's getting for recovery, his speed and swing have come back. "

He added, "The quickness he's gotten with the length of his deliveries is very important. Australia's batting lineup is strong, but they'll prioritize eating up Bumrah's overs because he maintains his pace of 140-145. We can see that he has worked really hard and is enjoying it. It looks like he's about to become 'Boom Boom Bumrah' once again."

Ind vs Aus: 'Looks like he is about to...' - Suresh Raina all praise for Jasprit Bumrah ahead of 1st ODI

After his magical 6 for 21 spell in Asia Cup 2023 final, Mohammed Siraj is on cloud nine. Siraj led India's charge with the ball after Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. were asked to bowl first in Colombo on September 17. The 29-year-old wreaked havoc with the ball as Sri Lanka folded up for 50 in 15.2 overs as Team India closed the game with a 10-wicket win with 263 balls to spare. After his best spell in the format, Siraj climbed to the top spot in ICC ODI Rankings for bowlers on Wednesday (September 20). Now, he has won praise from AB de Villiers, his former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate and South Africa great AB de Villiers.&nbsp;

De Villiers, speaking on his 360 show, pointed out that Siraj never gives up and his four-wicket over broke the back of Sri Lanka's batting line-up in the final of the continental tournament.

<h2>'Bowlers I respect the most are guys who&nbsp;never give up'</h2>

De Villiers said, "I think what stands out with him is his attitude, and we've spoken about this before on this series. Your attitude can really uplift you if you never give up. And if you keep trying and you make your attitude, catch you with your teammates, the people want you there. The fans want you there, and that's where you start doing some brilliant things and special things on the park. And Mohammad Siraj is one of those players. He always just keeps coming back. He's always in your face and I've mentioned this before. The bowlers that I respect the most are the guys that never gave up. That would always compete for every single ball, be in your face. And that's what Mohammad Siraj does."

The former South African captain added, "Well, he's not scared of trying his short ball. He's there in the batter's face. He's always trying to get you out. And the batter can feel that. And Sri Lanka certainly felt that in the final. Uh, what a fantastic turnaround. The thing that stands out, as I mentioned earlier, is he keeps trying. He's always in your face. His catches are in place and his attitude is spot on for the perfect fast bowler. If I can say that, he's always gonna keep trying. Congratulations, India. Congratulations, Siraj, with that final, the figures in the final, Simply incredible. And then we saw that, incredible over. Wicket, dot wicket, wicket, four runs and another wicket. And that was it. That literally, broke the back of the Sri Lankan batters. And that was the end of that."

After the Asia Cup, where Siraj ended as India's highest wicket-taker (10) and second overall, the speedster has shifted focus on the India-Australia home ODIs. The three-match series opener kicks off in Mohali on Friday evening (September 22). The pacer will be desperate to carry on with the momentum as this is India's last series before the CWC 2023 edition on home soil.&nbsp;

Also read: Ind vs Aus: Cummins gives epic one-word reply when asked if visitors have special plan to tackle Siraj The former South African captain added, "Well, he's not scared of trying his short ball. And that was the end of that." After the Asia Cup, where Siraj ended as India's highest wicket-taker (10) and second overall, the speedster has shifted focus on the India-Australia home ODIs. The three-match series opener kicks off in Mohali on Friday evening (September 22). The pacer will be desperate to carry on with the momentum as this is India's last series before the CWC 2023 edition on home soil. What stands out with Mohammed Siraj is his attitude: SA great Ab de Villiers all praise for No. 1 ODI bowler

India will take on Australia in the series opener of the three ODIs on Friday (September 22) at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. India will be without regular captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Hardik Pandya, hence, KL Rahul will take charge of the national side for the first two games. The home side will rely on Mohammed Siraj, their in-form pacer who wreaked havoc in the Asia Cup final with 6 for 21, versus Pat Cummins &amp; Co.

Ahead of the Mohali ODI, Australian skipper Cummins was asked whether the Men in Yellow have a special plan to tackle in-form Siraj. To this, the 30-year-old had an epic one-word reply. Cummins replied with a firm "No"&nbsp;in the pre-match press conference on Thursday (September 21). Australia have faced a lot of Siraj in the recent past -- the last two editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, three ODIs and WTC final early this year -- and, hence, won't be too stressed while facing him once again. However, his fine form will keep them on their toes especially during the powerplays.

Speaking of Siraj, he ended with 10 wickets in Asia Cup 2023, second overall&nbsp;(most by an Indian), and will look to replicate his splendid form in the Australia series, which will be followed by CWC 2023 (starting on October 05).

For the visitors, they have a lot of regulars coming back -- from injury concerns -- during the forthcoming ODIs versus Team India. Cummins has not played an ODI since November 2022 whereas Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell are also returning after injury layoffs. They, however, have a well-oiled unit to challenge Rohit, Virat Kohli-less India in the first two ODIs.

Australia have already announced that they will&nbsp;be without pacer&nbsp;Starc and all-rounder&nbsp;Maxwell for the series opener in Mohali.&nbsp;

Both India and Australia will meet in their CWC 2023 openers in Chennai on October 08 after the three ODIs. The World Cup kicks off on October 05 in Ahmedabad&nbsp;with defending champions England taking on New Zealand.

The latter has, however, been added for the third ODI (subject to fitness).&nbsp;

Mohali and Indore will host the first two games&nbsp;on September 22 and 24,&nbsp;respectively. The series finale will take place in Rajkot&nbsp;on September 27 (Wednesday).

BCCI announces India squad for Australia ODIs: Rohit, Kohli to feature in series finale, R Ashwin returns

R Ashwin is set to make his ODI return, after a long time, during the India-Australia home series, which gets underway on Friday (September 22) in Mohali. With Axar Patel injured during the Asia Cup, it has opened the doors for Ashwin's ODI comeback in India's last series before the CWC 2023 edition at home, starting on October 05 in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

Not only Ashwin, Washington Sundar has also been included in the India squad for the three ODIs versus the Aussies. Ashwin last played an ODI in early 2022 during India's tour of South Africa. Kuldeep Yadav-Yuzvendra Chahal's rise since mid-2017, when Ashwin wasn't at his best in white-ball formats, along with India stressing for a left-hander down the order, with good hitting prowess, led to Ashwin being sidelined.&nbsp;However, former Indian spinner Amit Mishra feels Ashwin's fielding also kept him away from the shorter formats in recent years.&nbsp;

Mishra said while discussing India's team selection for the Australia series, on Jio Cinema, "Ashwin is undoubtedly a quality bowler and a wicket-taker, but remember this is not a 20-over game. It is of 50 overs. The only reason he has been picked is because if a spinner gets injured, then the team needs to have a wicket-taking option, which Ashwin brings. Ashwin has got an edge as an off-spin option, as India already has two left-arm spinners and a wrist-spinner in Kuldeep Yadav."

<h2>'Why he is not in the team is for&nbsp;his fielding and right-handed batting ability'</h2>

"The Indian team will be looking at how Ashwin will be bowling against Australia, and to assess if he still has the wicket-taking abilities in this format. The only reason why he is not in the team is because of his fielding and right-handed batting ability. Jadeja and Axar are both lefties. Washington is a young player and has shown wicket-taking abilities apart from being a batting option. Plus, he provides an advantage with his fielding, something which holds importance in ODIs," he further added.

Ashwin, a veteran of 113 ODIs with 151 scalps, will be desperate to prove his fitness and wicket-taking abilities versus Australia. If Axar -- who has been included for the final ODI subject to fitness -- doesn't recover in time, the wily off-spinner will have a strong chance to enter India's squad for the upcoming home World Cup.
