Rohit Sharma-led India are off to a brilliant start in the 2023 ODI World Cup at home. After three games, they remain unbeaten and have shown a lot of determination on the field as the Men in Blue look to end their ten-year-long ICC title drought. Rohit is eager to win the ODI World Cup after missing out on being part of MS Dhoni-led India's 2011 victorious campaign.

Following his 2011 ODI World Cup snub, Rohit has changed his career emphatically. Before 2013, he was deemed inconsistent but since then, he has turned things around drastically and is now desperate to win the World Cup this time around as captain and player. Amol Mazumdar, former domestic stalwart, has lauded Hitman for showing enough maturity post his 2011 setback and becoming a huge name in Indian cricket (with over 10,000 ODI runs, four T20I centuries and a vital part of the Test line-up as well since late 2019).

Speaking on Star Sports show "Follow the Blues", Mazumdar said, "According to me, when he wasn’t selected in that 2011 World Cup where the team happened to go and win the tournament, that really upset him. After that, he’s just been excellent. When he got the captaincy (in the IPL) later, it added responsibility on his shoulders, and he really matured."

He further opined. "And he’s never looked back after that. That was one setback which he took positively and turned it around for himself."

Mazumdar added, "I&nbsp;want to highlight 3 things about his captaincy. The first one is that Rohit Sharma gives a lot of weightage and importance to data and statistics. The second one is, he keeps things very simple and tries to make his team members to think simple. He keeps everyone in the team in a very cool and calm atmosphere."

“And, the third one, which is the most important point, is that he has that magical touch in him. Whatever changes he makes, that comes out like a magical touch, like, for example, Mumbai Indians got that magical touch in their team after Rohit Sharma became their captain."

Rohit-led India are at the top in the CWC 2023 edition points table after three back-to-back wins. They will face Bangladesh on Thursday (Oct 19) at the MCA Stadium, Pune. Hitman has been in top form both as captain and batter so far. He has amassed 217 runs -- third-most and highest among Indians -- in the tournament and will look to go big versus the Bangla Tigers as well.

Rohit Sharma turned his career around after 2011 ODI World Cup omission, says Amol Mazumdar

Rohit Sharma-led Team India have been in top form in the home ODI World Cup. After three games, India have equal number of wins and will lock horns with Bangladesh on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune. On Saturday (Oct 14), India met Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad and demolished their arch-rivals by seven wickets, and 117 balls to spare.

With this win, India are atop in the points table and marching ahead with high chances of entering the semi-finals in the top-two. Rashid Latif, former Pakistan captain, lauded India's ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav after the Men in Blue's easy win over his national side and predicted the 29-year-old Kuldeep to end as the highest wicket-taker of the ongoing edition.

Latif feels Babar Azam-led Pakistani batters weren't aggressive against Kuldeep and only tried to play out his overs in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;Writing in his column for The Indian Express, he said, "Against Kuldeep, we looked timid, we were trying to just play out his ten overs. Not a single Pakistan batsman was able to pick Kuldeep (Yadav), and I think if he is not rested in a few matches, Kuldeep will end up being the leading wicket-taker of the tournament."

At the moment, Kuldeep has five wickets (third-most by an Indian) and occupies the sixth spot in the leading wicket-taker list. Jasprit Bumrah leads the overall chart with eight wickets, who was also the Player-of-the-Match versus Pakistan for his 2 for 19, whereas Ravindra Jadeja also features in the top five (fifth) with equal number of scalps as Kuldeep.

Latif, however, feels India should play R Ashwin in every game. Ashwin, who was selected in the World Cup squad at the last minute after Axar Patel's injury, played versus Australia but has warmed the bench in the next two games. "I was surprised that India didn’t pick Ashwin. I feel he should play all the matches for India. If Ashwin had played I don’t think we could have even got 190 on the board,” Latif added.

India will look to maintain their winning run when they lock horns with the Bangla Tigers on Thursday.&nbsp;

Kuldeep Yadav will end as ODI World Cup 2023's highest wicket-taker, predicts former Pakistan captain

England are not off to a great start in the ODI World Cup 2023 edition, being held in India. The Jos Buttler-led defending champions lost to Afghanistan in match 13 on Sunday (Oct 15) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi and have now conceded two out of their three games so far.&nbsp;

Opting to bowl first, England bowlers weren't on the money as Afghanistan rode on opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 80&nbsp;and&nbsp;Ikram Alikhil's 58 and cameos from Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to post a challenging 284 in 49.5 overs. In reply, England were bundled out for&nbsp;215 in 40.3 overs as the Asian side pulled off a huge upset. Despite the shocking loss, former England captain Michael Vaughan remains optimistic of his national side&nbsp;reaching the semi-finals in the ongoing edition.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Vaughan issued a bold claim and said, "England in the World Cup semis." Reacting to Vaughan's viral post on the microblogging site, former&nbsp;Indian opener Virender Sehwag reminded the Englishman of his national team's forgettable record in 50-over World Cups, where they have not made it to the semis in 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and also added 2023.

“Not in 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2023. Just one in 8 attempts,” Sehwag trolled Vaughan on X.&nbsp;

Earlier, Sehwag had mentioned that England and Australia, five-time winners, might be make it to the last four. "Looks like Eng and Aus are going to struggle to reach the top 4. #ENGvsAFG," Sehwag had stated. Pat Cummins-led Australia are yet to get off the mark in the ten-team tournament with two heavy defeats on the trot.&nbsp;

<h2>'You got to let these defeats hurt,&nbsp;no point in getting over things too quickly'</h2>

After the Afghanistan defeat, Buttler said at the post-match presentation, "Disappointing to win the toss and concede that many, me missing that first ball down the leg side set the tone. Credit to Afghanistan, they outplayed us today. It came down to execution, we weren’t quite at the level we’d like to be with both bat and ball. They have some fantastic bowlers, the dew didn’t come in as much as we expected, the ball held up a bit too. They bowled dead straight and kept the stumps in play, we just weren’t quite good enough. You got to let these defeats hurt, there’s no point in getting over things too quickly, we need to reflect. There’s a lot of character in this group, we need to show a lot of resilience and come back stronger. We need to have guys being able to perform under pressure and that’s what all of us will be working hard towards."

England will now lock horns with South Africa, who have two wins from equal number of games, in match 20 on Saturday (Oct 21) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

'Just one in 8 attempts': Sehwag gives EPIC reply to Vaughan's 'England in World Cup semis' remark

Rohit Sharma-led India demolished Afghanistan by eight wickets in match 9 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition on Thursday (Oct 11) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Being asked to bowl first, India rode on Jasprit Bumrah's 4 for 39 but Afghanistan managed a healthy 272 for 8 courtesy of captain Hashmatullah Shahidi (80) and&nbsp;Azmatullah Omarzai (61). In reply, India closed the run-chase in 35 overs courtesy of Rohit's sublime 131 and Virat Kohli's unbeaten 55.&nbsp;

Rohit was at his best from the word go during the run-chase. Hitman started off with a flurry of boundaries and ended with an impressive 84-ball 131, laced with 16 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of&nbsp;155.95. His knock led to India making light work of the run-chase, which could have been tricky had India lost early wickets. After the match, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra hailed Rohit -- who now has the most ODI World Cup tons (seven) -- and feels he doesn't get enough credit despite being a beast in the ODI format.&nbsp;

Chopra told JioCinema, "My focus for the chase was purely on Ishan Kishan. I thought that he played decently, was not the best but tried to hold his own, while he let the captain do all the heavy lifting on the other end."

It is unfortunate that we don't give him enough credit - Rohit Sharma is an ODI beast. Whenever he puts up a monstrous performance, the match is always one-sided."

Rohit -- who also ended with the Player-of-the-Match award --&nbsp;broke several records during his 131-run knock, including&nbsp;becoming the joint-fastest 1,000 runs in ODI World Cup history. After his inning, he said at the post-match presentation, "It was a good pitch to bat on, just backed myself to play my natural game. I knew once I got my eye in, the wicket was going to get easier for me. Something that I have been working on for a long time. It's a special feeling to get a World Cup hundred. Really happy with that. Don't want to think too much (scoring 7 hundreds in just three World Cups), I don't want to lose my focus. You need to make such things count."

CWC '23: 'Rohit is an ODI beast, does not...'- Chopra HAILS Hitman after India's easy win vs Afghanistan

India beat Afghanistan by eight wickets in pursuit of 273 in match 9 of the ICC ODI World Cup&nbsp;2023 edition on Wednesday (Oct 11) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. After losing the toss, India were asked to bowl first and rode on Jasprit Bumrah's 4 for 39, on a pitch akin for batters, as Afghanistan posted a healthy 272 for 8. The Afghans rode on their skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi's 80 and&nbsp;Azmatullah Omarzai (61) but could have scored much more, even more than 300, but Bumrah restricted the opposition with some stunning bowling and regular breakthroughs.

In reply, India completed the run-chase in a jiffy courtesy of Rohit Sharma's sublime 131 and Virat Kohli's 55 not out. Rohit ended as the Player-of-the-Match for his berserk knock, coming off 84 balls, but many also lauded Bumrah for his stellar show with the ball.

After the match, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan, speaking to Star Sports, said, "You won't get a better bowler than him in the entire world. If you focus on his action, you will come to know how he uses his variations. He first sets up the batters with inswing, creates a cluster, and then bowls outswing without any change in action and deceives the batters."

"A bowler who bowls at 140 kph, inswing and outswing at one spot, bouncers, slower ones, yorkers, you won't get anywhere. The angle from which he bowls, his pitch map will be outside the off stump. The ball will come in from there and can go away as well," Irfan further pointed out.

Irfan added, "If you focus on his wrists and seam position, the seam position is towards fine leg when he bowls inswing and towards slip when he bowls outswing. There is no change in action, just the wrist's control and balance. This is praiseworthy bowling and it is impossible for the batter to pick it at a speed of 140 kph."

Bumrah ended with his best figures in an ODI World Cup match during the Afghanistan face-off in the national capital. Ever since his international comeback, following a lengthy injury layoff, he has been among wickets in every game and will like to continue in a similar manner going ahead in India's CWC 2023 campaign.

India will next face arch-rivals Pakistan in match 12 of CWC 2023 edition on Saturday (Oct 14) in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

Also read: CWC '23: 'Rohit is an ODI beast, does not...'- Chopra HAILS Hitman after India's easy win vs Afghanistan Irfan added, "If you focus on his wrists and seam position, the seam position is towards fine leg when he bowls inswing and towards slip when he bowls outswing. There is no change in action, just the wrist's control and balance. This is praiseworthy bowling and it is impossible for the batter to pick it at a speed of 140 kph." Bumrah ended with his best figures in an ODI World Cup match during the Afghanistan face-off in the national capital. Ever since his international comeback, following a lengthy injury layoff, he has been among wickets in every game and will like to continue in a similar manner going ahead in India's CWC 2023 campaign. CWC '23: 'Won't get a better bowler than Jasprit Bumrah' - Irfan Pathan in awe of India pacer

Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball for India in their convincing eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in match 9 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition. Locking horns at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday (Oct 11), Rohit Sharma-led India restricted the Afghans to 272 for 8 riding on Bumrah's 4 for 39 -- his best figures in the World Cup -- before Hitman's sublime 131 and Virat Kohli's 55 not out took the home side to an easy win, with 15 overs to spare.

While Rohit walked away with the Player-of-the-Match award, many felt Bumrah played a very crucial role as well on a flat track. Ahead of the much-awaited India versus Pakistan showdown on Saturday (Oct 14) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir lauded Bumrah and made a big statement that there is a 'huge difference' between Shaheen Afridi and the Indian pacer.

"The way he dismissed Mitchell Marsh on that wicket (in the first game against Australia) and the way he dismissed Ibrahim Zadran, if there is a complete and most lethal bowler in world cricket, it is Bumrah. We compared Jasprit Bumrah and Shaheen Shah Afridi earlier; there is a huge difference," said Gambhir on Star Sports.

Gambhir further pointed out, "Tell me one fast bowler who can make such an impact in every phase. Bowlers bowl well either with the new ball or at the death but Bumrah has the same impact in the middle overs as he has with the new ball or the old ball."

Ever since his international return, Bumrah has been in top form. He came back to the Indian team during India's tour of Ireland in August after a long injury layoff (due to back issues). He has been among wickets in every game and would like to keep going forward in the remainder of the ODI World Cup at home.&nbsp;

Rohit-led India occupy the third spot in the points table with two back-to-back wins.&nbsp;

CWC '23: Huge difference between Bumrah and Afridi, feels Gambhir before India vs Pakistan showdown

Shubman Gill missed India's opening two games in CWC 2023 edition due to dengue. He was admitted in a Chennai hospital, after India's opening game in the city where they beat Australia, and got discharged later. After missing India's Afghanistan face-off in Delhi, Gill flew to Ahmedabad and even trained for some time on Thursday (Oct 12). Thus, ardent Indian cricket fans are eager to know if he will feature in India's big-ticket clash versus Pakistan on Saturday (Oct 14) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad.&nbsp;&nbsp;

MSK Prasad, India's former keeper-batter and BCCI chief selector, is confident that Gill will play the match versus Pakistan in Ahmedabad, which is the youngster's happy hunting ground.&nbsp;Talking to Hindustan Times, Prasad said that Gill would definitely, pointing out that practising in the nets has clearly displayed that the 24-year-old has recovered well and before one expected.&nbsp;

TAKE A BOW, KING KOHLI! Virat becomes highest run-getter in ODI, T20 World Cup history

Rohit Sharma-led India opened their campaign in the ongoing home ODI World Cup with a comfortable win over five-time winners Australia in match 5 on Sunday (Oct 8) in Chennai. Chasing 200, India were 2 for 3 before Virat Kohli's 85 and KL Rahul's sublime 97* took India home with six wickets, and 52 balls, to spare.&nbsp;

Ahead of India's second game, where they lock&nbsp;horns with Afghanistan in New Delhi on Wednesday (Oct 11), former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh opened up on India's middle-order and made a big claim.

In the last World Cup, held in England and Wales in 2019, there was immense talk on India's middle-order -- especially who will bat at No. 4. Their shaky middle and lower order resulted in their semi-final loss versus New Zealand.

This time around, India had a lot of time finalising their middle order (due to several injuries) but now have a settled line-up.

However, Yuvraj feels Kohli and Rahul have handled the bulk of scoring as No. 6 and No. 7 have not been tested yet.&nbsp;

Responding to WION&nbsp;during a presser&nbsp;in the national capital on Tuesday (Oct 10), Yuvi said on the middle-order, "I thought they were playing well in 2019 but pressure came in the big game (in the semi-finals). Pressure will come in big games only."

He opined, "I don't think the middle order has been tested properly so far. Virat bats at 3 and KL bats at 5. Batting hasn't come at 6 and 7. So others have not been tested. We need to absorb the pressure really well."

Yuvraj, along with Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag, was present for an event (by EO Gurgaon) held primarily to recall India's 2011 World Cup triumph.

<h2>JADEJA TO WIN POTT IN CWC '23?</h2>

Later in the event, Yuvraj was asked by a fan who could replicate his CWC '11 performance, where he ended as the Player of the Tournament, and win the big prize this time around. To this, the veteran named Ravindra Jadeja.&nbsp;

While the superstar cricketer named Rohit, Kohli, Shubman Gill (who is currently unwell) and Hardik Pandya as well, he finally went with Jadeja.

Yuvraj feels Jadeja's spin will be handy, which was the case versus Australia where he ended with 3 for 28. Jadeja's batting lower down the order will also be crucial to India's chances.&nbsp;

At present, India are up against Afghanistan and have lost the toss. Afghanistan have opted to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.&nbsp;

Ashwin will fight till the last delivery: Tendulkar lauds star player's attitude and approach towards game

Things aren't bright for Team India star opener Shubman Gill. Having missed India's CWC 2023 opener versus Australia, due to dengue, the batter remained in Chennai as Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. reached New Delhi on Monday (Oct&nbsp;9) for their upcoming clash versus Afghanistan on Wednesday (Oct 11).

It is to be noted that Gill was hospitalised in Chennai after his platelet count dropped. The young batter was&nbsp;discharged&nbsp;on Tuesday&nbsp;morning (Oct&nbsp;10),&nbsp;as per the news agency&nbsp;PTI.

On Monday, the&nbsp;Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Gill is closely being monitored by the&nbsp;medical team but remains&nbsp;out of the Afghanistan clash.

"Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October."

"He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team," read the statement from BCCI.

Gill's absence is a huge blow for Team India. The 24-year-old has been in exceptional form for the last year, especially in ODIs. In 2023, he has been on a run-scoring spree and has five centuries in the ODI format. Gill was in fine form in the Asia Cup, with a sublime 121&nbsp;versus Bangladesh, and ended with the Player-of-the-Series award in India's 2-1 win over Australia in three home ODIs before the World Cup.

In his absence, India were tottering at 2 for 3 in pursuit of 200 versus the Aussies in match 5 of CWC 2023 on Sunday (Oct&nbsp;8). Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97 not out) ensured India went past the finish line with six wickets&nbsp;and 52 balls to spare in Chennai.

Given Gill's condition, he is ruled out of the upcoming India-Pakistan clash&nbsp;on October 14&nbsp;in Ahmedabad. An official announcement can be expected in the coming days.

Things aren't bright for Team India star opener Shubman Gill. Having missed India's CWC 2023 opener versus Australia, due to dengue, the batter remained in Chennai as Rohit Sharma & Co. reached New Delhi on Monday (Oct 9) for their upcoming clash versus Afghanistan on Wednesday (Oct 11). It is to be noted that Gill was hospitalised in Chennai after his platelet count dropped. The young batter was discharged on Tuesday morning (Oct 10), as per the news agency PTI. On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Gill is closely being monitored by the medical team but remains out of the Afghanistan clash. "Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October." Also read: World Cup 2023, Match 8: Pakistan take on Sri Lanka in Hyderabad - Preview and result prediction "He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team," read the statement from BCCI. Gill's absence is a huge blow for Team India. The 24-year-old has been in exceptional form for the last year, especially in ODIs. In 2023, he has been on a run-scoring spree and has five centuries in the ODI format. Gill was in fine form in the Asia Cup, with a sublime 121 versus Bangladesh, and ended with the Player-of-the-Series award in India's 2-1 win over Australia in three home ODIs before the World Cup. In his absence, India were tottering at 2 for 3 in pursuit of 200 versus the Aussies in match 5 of CWC 2023 on Sunday (Oct 8). Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97 not out) ensured India went past the finish line with six wickets and 52 balls to spare in Chennai. Given Gill's condition, he is ruled out of the upcoming India-Pakistan clash on October 14 in Ahmedabad. An official announcement can be expected in the coming days. CWC 2023: India batter Shubman Gill discharged from Chennai hospital, unlikely to play vs Pakistan - Report

India got off to a winning start in the home ODI World Cup on Sunday (Oct 8) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Taking on the five-time winners Australia, Rohit Sharma-led India were asked to bowl first and rode on Ravindra Jadeja's three-fer and two wickets each from Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah to bundle out the visitors for 199 in 49.3 overs. In reply, India were tottering at 2 for 3 before Virat Kohli's 85 and KL Rahul's 97 not out took them home with six wickets, and 52 balls, to spare.

Now, the Rohit-led Men in Blue will lock horns with Afghanistan in their second outing at the national capital New Delhi on Wednesday (Oct 11). Talking about Afghanistan, they fell flat in their tournament-opener, losing to Bangladesh in Dharamshala by six wickets after being out for 156. For them to give a good fight versus Team India, they need their batters to stand tall and pull off&nbsp;an all-round&nbsp;effort.&nbsp;

<h2>IND vs AFG, Head-to-head record in ODI World Cup</h2>

So far, both sides have met only once in the ODI World Cup history. In the 2019 edition, Kohli-led India only managed 224 for 8 after opting to bat first in Southampton. In reply, Rashid Khan-starrer Afghans were bundled out for 213 to lose by 11 runs with Mohammed Shami taking a hat-trick.

<h2>Pitch conditions and result prediction:</h2>

The fresh&nbsp;pitches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, prepared using black soil, has made the surface more batting-friendly. Expect another high-scoring affair -- especially if India bat first -- with dew assisting the team batting second as well. It will be interesting to see what the captain winning the toss chooses to do.

India can also consider using a spinner less with one of Shardul Thakur or Mohammed Shami coming in.&nbsp; Overall, Shubman Gill-less India are expected to emerge on top with less hiccups.&nbsp;

<h2>Predicted Playing XIs:</h2>

According to Dav Whatmore, Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup-winning coach and WION's in-house expert, the potential XIs should be as&nbsp;follows:

India XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya (vc), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

Afghanistan XI: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammed Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi&nbsp;

<h2>KOHLI AND RAHUL'S CANDID CHAT</h2>

In their conversation, Kohli recalled the stunning 233-run third-wicket stand with Rahul in India's Super Four clash versus Pakistan in the Asia Cup but rated their recent stand 'bit more special.'

Kohli started by saying, "Talking about the special partnership that I and KL had, we had one in the Asia Cup as well but this was a bit more special." He then asked Rahul, "How does it feel, how is the body feeling firstly."

Rahul replied, "Tired. I won't lie, you know how it was the only chat after I think 50 or 70 runs of the partnership was let's conserve energy. Let's not run the twos but once you hit it in the gap then I guess instincts take over and we end up running. It was a tough day but it could get our World Cup journey started with a good victory."

<h2>'It doesn't all happen in 1.5 overs or 2 overs time'</h2>

Kohli recalled India's top-order failure in Chennai and said, "I know the situation was not ideal when you came in, you were all over the place you were still padding up while walking in. The first thing I told you was that it was a quick turnaround. It was quite bizarre to be honest the start was quite bizarre." He then asked his partner, "What was your feeling when you were walking in?"

Rahul was quick to respond, "I never expected it, you do lose a couple of quick wickets sometimes when the ball is doing something but not like that it still takes 4-5 overs. It doesn't all happen in 1.5 overs or 2 overs time. I just came and sat, I just had a shower, the minute I sat down Ishan got out. I had to rush back to get taped and started wearing my pad."

CWC 2023 - 'Never expected that': Rahul recalls India's early collapse vs Australia in chat with Kohli - Watch

India beat Australia in match 5 of CWC 2023 edition on Sunday (Oct 8) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Being asked to bowl first, Indian bowlers restricted Australia to 199 in 49.3 overs with Ravindra Jadeja accounting for 3 for 28, along with two-fers from Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav each. In reply, the Men in Blue were 2 for 3 before a 165-run third-wicket stand between KL Rahul (97 not out) and Virat Kohli (85) stole the show and took India home with six wickets, and 52 balls, to spare. Thus, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. have opened their CWC 2023 campaign in style.&nbsp;

After the win, many former cricketers and experts of the game lauded Rahul and Kohli for battling a tough period early in the run-chase, buying out some time in the middle, keeping the scoreboard ticking before taking on the attack.

Talking about Rahul, the keeper-batter has been in exceptional form ever since he made his international comeback -- from a hip injury suffered in IPL 2023 -- during the Asia Cup. Since his return, he has had scores of 111*, 39, 19, 58*, 52, 26 and 97*. Thus, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan lavished huge praise on the 31-year-old Rahul.&nbsp;

<h2>'KL Rahul doesn't seem like the Rahul who used to take pressure before'</h2>

Speaking exclusively to Star Sports, Irfan analysed Rahul's successful approach post his return and said, "He's been looking very calm. He doesn't seem like the Rahul who used to take pressure before, now he looks like he's soaking that pressure, and it can be seen in the result. And because of that, he doesn't even seem like he's going to get out while he is batting. He's getting beaten less. That doesn't mean one doesn't get beaten."

He added, "There seems to be control, he's finding the singles, playing the big shots, he's also using the sweep shots, seems to be having a lot of time while pulling the ball. He has worked a lot on his technique, but most importantly he looks like a much better version of himself than before."

The Indian team management would be mighty pleased with the batting effort as Rahul-Kohli ensured the hosts recovered from early setbacks to win the contest. After this win, India will now shift their focus to their next game, where they take on Afghanistan on Wednesday (Oct&nbsp;11) in New Delhi, India.&nbsp;

Rohit-led India will be keen to make it two wins in a row and continue moving forward in the ten-team tournament at home.

And because of that, he doesn't even seem like he's going to get out while he is batting. He's getting beaten less. That doesn't mean one doesn't get beaten." He added, "There seems to be control, he's finding the singles, playing the big shots, he's also using the sweep shots, seems to be having a lot of time while pulling the ball. He has worked a lot on his technique, but most importantly he looks like a much better version of himself than before." KL Rahul looks like a much better version of himself, says Irfan Pathan after India beat Australia in CWC 2023

Rohit Sharma-led India beat Australia in match 5 of ICC ODI World Cup 2023, on Sunday (October 8), at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Being asked to bowl first, India bundled out the Aussies for 199 in 49.3 overs and chased down the score with six wickets courtesy of Virat Kohli's 85 and KL Rahul's unbeaten 97. At one stage, India were tottering at 2 for 3 before Kohli-Rahul's 165-run fourth-wicket stand propelled the home team to a convincing victory over the five-time World Cup winners.&nbsp;

After the match, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag hailed Kohli and KL Rahul. He, in particular, praised the No. 3 batter and stated that Kohli always performs on the big stage for the Men in Blue.&nbsp;

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag stated, "Both Virat Kohli and KL Rahul played exceptionally well. Their partnership was fantastic. Both of them scored hundreds together against Pakistan as well and stitched together a great partnership. But this time, it came under a lot of pressure and was in a crunch situation."

<h2>'Virat Kohli's&nbsp;hunger to score increases in World Cups'</h2>

The former cricketer further opined on Kohli, "What can I say about Virat Kohli? Jahan matter bade hote hain, wahan King Kohli khade hote hain (Virat Kohli always performs on the big stage). Virat likes to perform on the big stage. His hunger to score increases in World Cups. I was quite surprised to see him get out at 85. He likes to stay till the end. He will be quite disappointed."

Sehwag added, "A 34-year-old Virat told Rahul to play like Test cricket here. However, Kohli used to tell me the same in 2008. He would ask me to play a bit slowly, like Test cricket. That is his nature. He likes to take his time before going for big shots. This has made him such a big player. He plays according to the situation and knows that even if he takes a few balls, he can cover up later in the innings."

For India, Ravindra Jadeja (3 for 28), Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 42) and Jasprit Bumrah (2 for 35) led the charge with the ball and restricted the Aussies for a below-par total. During their run-chase, India were tested but would be happy to emerge out victorious. They will now face Afghanistan on Wednesday (Oct 11) in New Delhi, India.&nbsp;

Talking about India's fielding, everyone complemented the bowlers with some outstanding saves in the inner circle as well as in the deep. Thus, Australia could not even surpass the 200-run mark. With the bat, India struggled early on but a highly-impressive 165-run third-wicket stand between Kohli and Rahul took India past the finish line.&nbsp;

At the post-match presentation, captain Rohit said, "Pretty exciting. Good feeling to come out on top. It was a good game to start the tournament for us. I thought it was magnificent, especially the fielding and we saw the effort from everyone today, conditions like this it would be tough. Our bowlers used the conditions perfectly and we knew there would be assistance for everyone, even the seamers got some reverse, the spinners bowled in the nice areas and all in all it was a great effort. I was (nervous), you don't want to start your innings like that, credit to the Aussies bowlers as they bowled in good areas but some loose shots as well, when you have that kind of target you want to score as much as possible in the powerplay, but credit to Virat and KL on how they went about the chase. That is going to be the challenge for us as a team, moving to different conditions and adapting, whoever suits the conditions will have to come and do the job. Chennai never disappoints, they love their cricket and for them to sit in that heat and come out and cheer for the team says a lot."

Team India opened their campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 with a comfortable six-wicket win over Pat Cummins-led Australia in match 5 on Sunday (October 8) in Chennai. Being asked to bowl first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Rohit Sharma & Co. bundled out the Aussies for a paltry 199 in 49.3 overs with Ravindra Jadeja taking a three-fer whereas Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah returned with two wickets each. In reply, India were tottering at 2 for 3 before Virat Kohli's 85 and KL Rahul's unbeaten 97* took India home with 52 balls to spare. After the match, Kohli received the best fielder of the match award in the team presentation in the dressing room. Kohli was proactive as ever in the field and accounted for two catches, removing Mitchell Marsh and Adam Zampa. Thus, the fielding coach T Dilip handed over the medal and revealed, in a BCCI video shared on all social media platforms, that the team management had been trying for a while to arrange laurels for fielding efforts. In addition, Dilip lauded Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan for their overall fielding efforts. Kohli was on cloud nine after receiving the best fielder of the match award and his celebrations have gone viral. CWC '23: Virat Kohli wins India's best fielder of the match, star batter's celebration goes viral - Watch

India defeated Australia by six wickets in match 5 of the CWC 2023 edition on Sunday (October 8) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This was the opening game for both sides&nbsp;in the marquee event, which kicked off on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Winning the toss, Pat Cummins-led Australia opted to bat and were well-placed at 110 for 2 before being reduced to 119 for 5 to be eventually bundled out for 199 in 49.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja (3 for 28), Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 42) and Jasprit Bumrah (2 for 35) led the charge with the ball before Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97 not out) constructed a partnership to take India home.

Kohli and Rahul joined forces with India struggling at 2 for 3 before the duo added an impressive 165-run fourth-wicket stand to take India out of troubled waters and steer them to an easy win, with 52 balls remaining. After the clash, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar lauded Rahul for his chanceless knock and hailed his fitness for keeping wickets and swift running between the wickets along with Kohli.&nbsp;

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Akhtar said, "The way KL Rahul asserted his authority, he looks to be in a different league. Virat Kohli played a great innings but he could not play a chanceless innings. When KL Rahul was batting, he did not give any chance throughout his innings."

Akhtar further opined, "Rahul hit shots when it was needed, and soaked in pressure with the situation of the game was tough. Virat Kohli's dropped catch was the turning point yes, but KL Rahul giving stability was crucial. You play him at any number - in the middle order, and opening, he does well. Don't forget that he kept wickets as well just before this for 50 overs."

He added, "People laud Virat Kohli for his fitness and his running between the wickets, but KL Rahul is running with him too and also after keeping wickets and that needs to be talked about. KL Rahul is a complete player and needs to be backed throughout."

Rahul missed out on a hundred by finishing the match with a sublime six, off Cummins, when he was on 91. Nonetheless, his form bodes well for India who will now take on Afghanistan on Wednesday (October 11) in New Delhi.

CWC '23: 'He looks to be in different league' - Akhtar lauds Rahul for classy 97* in India's win vs Australia

On Friday (Oct&nbsp;6), Rohit Sharma-led India dealt with a major blow after reports confirmed that in-form opener Shubman Gill is down with dengue and very likely to miss India's CWC '23 opener, where they face Australia on Sunday (Oct 8) in Chennai. It is possible that Gill will also miss the following game, where India host Afghanistan in New Delhi on Wednesday (Oct 11). In this scenario, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is set to replace Gill at the top and open with captain Rohit.&nbsp;

On India's big potential setback with no Gill for Australia clash, former Aussie captain Aaron Finch shared a brutal assessment. He shared that while India remain in a good stead even if they play without Gill, his absence will be surely felt due to the 'fear factor'.

He said while speaking to Star Sports, "What's going to stand out in this World Cup is the depth of these squads. Most teams are going with an idea what their ideal XI is but that doesn't always go to plan. There are injuries, fatigue as it's a long tournament. Still, India would be pretty comfortable. The difference will be the fear factor Shubman Gill puts into the Australian team."

<h2>'Australia will be a little more comfortable bowling to Ishan Kishan'</h2>

Lauding the 24-year-old Gill, Finch further opined, "He is someone who Australia at times really struggle to bowl to in any format because he has no weaknesses. He is somebody who can hit your best balls. He dominates spin, left-arm pacer, right-arm pace so I think that will be the only difference."

Finch feels Ishan, on the other hand, is slightly vulnerable at the start and has technical faults, which the Aussie pacers would like to exploit on Sunday.

In this regard, he added, "Australia will be a little more comfortable bowling to Ishan Kishan in the Powerplay. Starc and Hazelwood. I would go with that selection if I have to bowl to the left-hander. The outswing to Ishan because I still think he has a few technical faults he still hasn't quite ironed out over the last while. His front foot closes up quite a bit so if he can swing it early, they can get him. Once he gets in, he moves beautifully. But just those initial balls though, he tends to get vulnerable."

No official statement has come regarding Gill's unavailability for the Australia encounter, with head coach Rahul Dravid not ruling him out yet.&nbsp;

Sources within the team have disclosed to Cricbuzz that the right-hander showed symptoms of dengue while India were in Guwahati for the warm-up games.&nbsp;

At present, the severity of his illness is being assessed, however, team sources have suggested that he is not experiencing extreme weakness&nbsp;or discomfort.

Gill puts fear into Australia, Ishan has...: Aaron Finch on India's potential setback before CWC '23 opener

Retired South African batter AB de Villiers has revealed that Indian speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the one who often troubled him and exposed his technique.&nbsp; Over the years, Bhuvneshawar and de Villiers have had numerous encounters, with one of the most memorable moments coming in the 2018 Test series in South Africa. Although India valiantly fought lost the series 1-2, it was Bhuvneshwar's booming inswinger that dismissed de Villiers during the Centurion test and is remembered fondly by cricket fans.&nbsp;

"Bhuvi is a wonderful bowler, very skillful, keeps the batter on their toes. So if you're not in control of your technique, Bhuvi is the guy who is going to expose that, which he did with me at Centurion," de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.&nbsp; "He was lining me up with a few outswingers and dragging me off. Finally, when he bowled one inswinger, my head went this way (fell over) and there were stumps all over the place. Lot of respect for Bhuvi as always."

While de Villiers had his fair share of troubles against the Indian pacer, he also had his moments.&nbsp;In 2015, when de Villiers scored a magnificent 119 off 61 balls against India in the ODI decider at the Wankhede Stadium, it was Bhuvneshwar who was at the receiving end of his wrath.&nbsp;

South Africa legend AB de Villiers names Indian bowler who exposed his technique

England were thrashed by New Zealand by nine wickets in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition's opening game on Thursday (October 5) in Ahmedabad. While many believed the defending champions would start with a win, the Kane Williamson-less New Zealanders put up a clinical show to chase down 283 by nine wickets with 82 balls to spare. The Kiwis rode on Devon Conway's 152 not out and Rachin Ravindra's unbeaten 123 to claim a win without breaking much sweat.&nbsp;

Tom Latham-led Black Caps won the toss and opted to bowl first. England were off to a good start and were 94 for 2 before being reduced to 188 for 5. At 221 for 5, England still had a lot of batting to come but they only managed 282/9 when they could have crossed the 300-run mark with ease. Matt Henry's 3 for 48 and two wickets each from Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips. In the run-chase, NZ lost opener Will Young for 0 (1) but nothing worked from there on for the English side as Conway-Rachin's unbeaten 273-run second-wicket stand ended the game in a flash.&nbsp;

Speaking on Cricbuzz after the match, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag removed Jos Buttler-led England from his top four following their crushing defeat in the CWC '23 opener. He said, "I had kept England in my top four, but I think I need to change my prediction now. Yes, they can lose two matches and still make it to the semi-finals. However, their net run rate has taken a massive hit. So, they will need to beat another team by a big margin."

Reviewing the match, Sehwag opined, "The wicket didn't change; New Zealand just batted better. The England batters' shot selection was poor. New Zealand, on the other hand, lost just one wicket. The two batters remained till the end because their shot selection was very good. That made a big difference. I'd say that we have already seen one upset in this World Cup, and they (NZ) also took revenge for the 2019 World Cup final."

At the post-match presentation, a dejected England captain Buttler said, "Disappointing day, outplayed by New Zealand, tough to take that defeat. One loss, still a long tournament. Lot of guys in our team have played a lot of cricket. We have beaten teams this way before and we have been at the end of such results before. I thought we were well below par, not judging by the way New Zealand batted, because we were aiming for somewhere around 330. It was a good wicket to bat and I think it got even better in the second innings. Tough to build any pressure with the start they got. We lacked being clinical with our executions. Some of those dismissals, the right shots weren't quite executed. We will keep it positive, we'll keep playing our way, can't be too defensive but we weren't clinical in shot selection and execution."

England will now play Bangladesh in Dharamshala on Tuesday (October 10).&nbsp;

It was a good wicket to bat and I think it got even better in the second innings. Tough to build any pressure with the start they got. We lacked being clinical with our executions. Some of those dismissals, the right shots weren't quite executed. We will keep it positive, we'll keep playing our way, can't be too defensive but we weren't clinical in shot selection and execution." CWC '23: Shikhar Dhawan shares heartfelt post for Team India ahead of opener vs Australia

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has backed Team India to win the CWC 2023 edition, which kicked off on Thursday (October 5) with the defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad. In the last three editions, the home side has&nbsp;won the mega title. In the previous two World Cups, the team who entered the marquee event as the No. 1 ranked side went on to win the prestigious trophy. With India hosting the event and entering the competition as the No. 1 ranked side, they have everything going for them to win their third title in tournament history.&nbsp;

"It's hard to look beyond India. They're ranked No. 1 in the world, plus history tells you that playing at home is a huge advantage. England won it four years ago, Australia in 2015 when hosting, and India themselves back in 2011. They're also just a very good side with basically all bases covered. They'll be very hard to beat," Nasser Hussain told Sky Sports.

India are No.1 ODI side, hard to look beyond them: Nasser Hussain puts his money on hosts to win CWC '23

India skipper Rohit Sharma has opened up on his team’s approach as they prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup which starts on Thursday (Oct 5). Rohit, one of the 10 captains in the marquee tournament, will eye glory but insists his team will take one match at a time during the tournament. All the 10 captains participating in the World Cup met on the eve of the curtain-raiser in the pre-tournament shoot where Rohit opened on his team’s approach.

<h2>Rohit opens on team’s approach</h2>

“Not thinking too much about it, honestly it has happened in the last three editions of the World Cup but all I can say is we are going to try our best, give our best, and enjoy the tournament. That’s all I can say at this point in time because it’s a pretty long tournament and I do understand that you can’t get too far ahead of yourself. So, it’s important for us that we try and focus on one job at a time and then move on from there,” Sharma said in the captain's event arranged on Wednesday.

India will look to become the fourth consecutive nation to win the ODI World Cup on home soil, a tradition that started with the hosts in 2011. India became the first nation to win the ODI World Cup on home turf when MS Dhoni’s troops defeated Sri Lanka in the final in 2011 while Australia and England then followed the success story in 2015 and 2019 respectively.

Rohit will look for a repeat of his 2019 performance&nbsp;where he smashed five hundreds and led the side to the semifinals. He was in explosive form in England as he scored 648 runs in nine matches and was the highest scorer in the tournament. A repeat of that could see India in pole position to lift the World Cup as they also have the home advantage on their side.

India will start their World Cup campaign on Sunday (Oct 8) against Australia in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. India will have recent history on their side having beaten the team from down under 2-1 in the ODI series in September.

ODI World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma opens up on Team India's approach, says 'not thinking too much about...'

Rohit Sharma became India's full-time captain early in 2022. Thus, captaincy came very late for Rohit. Back then, he was 34 and just a few months away from turning 35. Ahead of the CWC 2023 edition, which kicks off in India on October 5 (Thursday), the Indian captain Rohit expressed his gratitude for leading India across formats as he believes many big names missed out on becoming the national side's skipper in the past.

When India last hosted the ODI World Cup, along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011, MS Dhoni-led Men in Blue won the coveted title (for the second time overall in the country's rich cricketing history). Back then, Rohit was not even part of the World Cup squad. In the current scenario, Hitman will be leading India in the mega event where the hosts' campaign starts on October 8, facing Australia in Chennai.&nbsp;

Since taking over as India's captain, Rohit has had mixed results -- with a semi-final exit in 2022 T20 World Cup, WTC final loss and Asia Cup title last month. Thus, the 36-year-old will be eager to help India lift the 50-over World Cup once again and leave an impact as a captain. Ahead of his stint as captain in the marquee event, Rohit acknowledged the role and responsibility given to him, mentioning that some superstar players such as Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, etc. did not have&nbsp;the luxury to lead despite having stellar careers.

Talking to the Indian Express, Rohit said, "Obviously, you want to be at your peak for this, say when you are 26-27. But you cannot always get what you want. You are talking about the Indian captaincy and there have been stalwarts in the Indian team. Many more players deserved to be the captain of the team. I had to wait for my turn and that's absolutely fair enough. The guys before, Virat was before me, so was MS (Dhoni)."

<h2>'Yuvraj has been such a match winner for India, he should have been the captain'</h2>

"Just look at the names that missed out: Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag … these are all stalwarts of Indian cricket. Not to forget Yuvraj Singh. He never captained India. Yuvraj has been such a match winner for India, he should have been the captain at some stage but he didn’t get it. That's life. I got it now and I am grateful for it. I would rather have it when I know how to captain a team, when I know what is required and all. Rather than when I don’t know the ABCD of captaincy. So in that respect, this is good," Hitman added.

Rohit will look to create a legacy by helping India win the upcoming ODI World Cup at home, on November 19. This will be his third&nbsp;World Cup, and last in all likelihood, hence, he will be desperate to leave on a high.

'Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj missed out': Rohit opines on his captaincy, 'grateful' to lead India in CWC '23

Axar Patel's injury opened the doors for R Ashwin's comeback in the ODI setup recently. After Axar suffered an injury during Asia Cup 2023, Ashwin was recalled in the ODI setup -- for the first time since early 2022 -- during the home ODIs versus Australia in the run-up to the 50-over World Cup, which starts on Thursday (October 5) in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

After the three ODIs, which India won 2-1, Ashwin replaced Axar in the CWC '23 final 15 as the latter is still recovering after&nbsp;the quadriceps strain. Now, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has backed the decision and feels Ashwin is the right choice to replace Axar.

Talking to India Today, Ganguly said, "He is an outstanding spinner. He is probably the best off-spinner in the world. And also, he is the best spinner in India. I always think that in this format specialist is very important in this format. It’s a very good decision. Maybe it is a coincidence as Axar Patel was out for injury. But I think it's a very good decision."

Ashwin was impressive in the opening two ODIs versus Australia, claiming four wickets. He will look to start the upcoming ODI World Cup with a bang as India take on the Aussies in both sides' respective openers on October 8 (Sunday) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Ashwin is a veteran of 115 ODIs and has accounted for 155 wickets. He was part of India's victorious run in the 2011 ODI World Cup, co-hosted by India. Thus, his experience will come in handy for Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. as they look to replicate the 2011 success and also end India's ten-year-long ICC title drought.

Here is India's final squad for World Cup 2023 -

Rohit Sharma (captain), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav

But I think it's a very good decision." He will look to start the upcoming ODI World Cup with a bang as India take on the Aussies in both sides' respective openers on October 8 (Sunday) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ashwin is a veteran of 115 ODIs and has accounted for 155 wickets. He was part of India's victorious run in the 2011 ODI World Cup, co-hosted by India. Thus, his experience will come in handy for Rohit Sharma & Co. as they look to replicate the 2011 success and also end India's ten-year-long ICC title drought. R Ashwin’s inclusion in Team India's CWC '23 squad is very good decision: Former captain Sourav Ganguly

CWC '23: From Sourav Ganguly to Md Azharuddin! Indian captains with most sixes in an ODI World Cup

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition gets underway on October 5 (Thursday) with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the Rohit Sharma-led India will open their campaign on October 8 (Sunday) when they face Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. With the mega event less than two days away from commencement, many former and active cricketers have shared their predictions. England's Test specialist James Anderson has also joined the bandwagon and made a bold claim.&nbsp;

Anderson feels England, India, Australia and South Africa will be in the four semi-finals whereas England and India will proceed to the final, on November 19 in Ahmedabad. The 41-year-old added that he feels the defending champions England will go past India in a tight final.

Speaking to the BBC Test Match Special, Anderson stated, "The semi-finalists will be England, India, Australia and South Africa. I like how South Africa turned it around in their series against Australia. Their batting is strong and they have nice options with the ball. Pakistan will be close, as will New Zealand, but both will miss out. I can see England beating India in a tight final."

On the other hand, recently-retired England pacer Steven Finn feels England, India, Pakistan and New Zealand will end at the top four but has backed Rohit &amp; Co. to win the coveted title. Finn has backed India as the home team have won the last three editions.&nbsp;

Finn opined, "This World Cup is the most open there has been in a long time. The lack of 50-over cricket in the build-up will mean some teams will go in slightly muddled about how they approach this format. The four that will reach the semis are England, New Zealand, India and Pakistan. They have the most balanced squads."

"The last three World Cups have been won by hosts - India in 2011, Australia in 2015 and England four years ago. With that in mind, India will win it again this year. They have played significantly more one-dayers than anyone else and home support will be a big advantage," he added.

England squad:&nbsp;Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

'I can see England beating India in a tight CWC 2023 final': James Anderson shares BOLD prediction

Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India opened their campaign in Asian Games 2023 with a 23-run win over Nepal on Tuesday (October 3). Riding on Yashasvi Jaiswal's maiden T20I ton (49-ball 100) and Rinku Singh's 15-ball 37 not out, India posted 202 for 4 and restricted the opposition to 179 for 9. With the win, India have progressed to the semi-finals. Jaiswal continued his rich form and scored his first-ever T20I century. In addition, he surpassed Shubman Gill to achieve a major Indian record.&nbsp;

Jaiswal, at the age of 21 years and 279 days, went past Gill's T20I record of being India's youngest-ever centurion in the shortest format. It is to be noted that the right-hander scored his maiden T20I hundred against New Zealand early this year. The 24-year-old Gill&nbsp;had smashed an impressive 126 not out, the highest individual score by an Indian in the format. Back then, Gill was 23 years old.

Talking about Jaiswal, the left-hander has been in sublime form this year. He ended IPL 2023 as the fifth-highest run-getter (with 625 runs in 14 games, including a best of 124). He carried his form during India's all-format tour of West Indies, slamming an impressive 171 on his Test debut and was among the runs in the five T20Is as well. Now, the youngster has started the Asian Games with a bang. Hence, he will be desperate to carry on with the momentum and take India to gold at the games -- where he also became the country's first-ever centurion on Tuesday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jaiswal is surely ticking all the boxes at the moment and is emerging as a strong contender to open for India in the next year's T20 World Cup, in West Indies and the USA. However, the mega event is still far away, hence, he would like to maintain consistency in the upcoming months.

India vs Nepal, Asian Games: Yashasvi Jaiswal breaks Shubman Gill's India record after maiden T20I ton

India will start their campaign in the CWC 2023 edition on October 8 (Sunday) when they face Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. While India ticked most of the boxes in the Asia Cup and home ODIs versus Australia, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. would be concerned with Ravindra Jadeja's batting struggles. Jadeja has not made a solid impression in the limited opportunities in recent times&nbsp;while batting down the order. He has not scored a half-century in the ODI format since 2020. However, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar isn't concerned with Jadeja's low returns and mentions a key aspect of Jadeja.&nbsp;

In response to a question from Hindustan Times, Gavaskar stated, "Not really. With the kind of experience that he has, it's not a worry. The important thing is that he is such a fast runner between the wickets. Often, we overlook it… the fact that from the non-striker end, he helps the batter convert ones into twos. So, I think those are the little things that are important. So yeah, I am not worried after Ravindra Jadeja at all. He is a top player, a wonderful player… rockstar, like Shane Warne once said."

Batting mostly at No. 7 or 8, Jadeja has played some vital knocks down the order but has not made a significant contribution. In the third and final ODI between India and Australia, in Rajkot on September 27, the 34-year-old all-rounder had a chance to get some runs under his belt and regain confidence, given India were out of the contest reeling at 249 for 6 in pursuit of a mammoth 353. However, the left-hander was seen struggling to get momentum and returned for a 36-ball 35.

The star all-rounder will be vital for India in the upcoming ODI World Cup at home. Not only with the ball, Jadeja will be needed with the bat as well -- down the order -- as Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led team management has often preferred batting depth.&nbsp;

The CWC 2023 edition kicks off on October 5 (Thursday) with defending champions England taking on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad.&nbsp;
