Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has lavished huge praise on Rishabh Pant, who is still recovering from the injuries he sustained in a car crash in late 2022. Chopra feels Pant is a game-changer and a '24-carot gold' in Test cricket and can be the next captain in whites after Rohit Sharma decides to step aside. The former cricketer also nominated Shubman Gill. India's next Test assignment is a two-match Test series in South Africa&nbsp;

Aakash Chopra said in a video shared on his YouTube channel, "I am talking about extremely long-term, it could be Shubman Gill. I am not talking about now, I am talking about the distant future. It could be Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant as a Test cricketer is 24-carat gold."

"So he could also be the one. He is a game-changer. So I will look towards one of these two once Rohit says he is done with Test cricket and that you can appoint someone else as the skipper," Chopra added.

Former Indian opener predicts next Test captain after Rohit Sharma

Sourav Ganguly recalled Virat Kohli's infamous resignation as India captain in late 2021. Kohli announced his resignation as the T20I captain before the start of the 2021 T20 World Cup, in the UAE. Soon after the World Cup, he was sacked as the ODI captain and after the end of the India-South Africa Tests, which concluded in early 2022 in&nbsp;the African nation, Kohli stepped down as the Test captain as well, bringing curtains to his captaincy tenure. Back then, Ganguly was also criticised by many for playing a role in Kohli's resignation as he was serving as the BCCI chief.&nbsp;

Now, Ganguly has recalled the entire controversy and stated that he didn't play any role in Kohli leaving captaincy altogether. The former Indian captain said that he just asked Kohli to step down as the white-ball skipper after the latter had announced his resignation from T20Is.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"I didn't remove Virat from captaincy. I have told this a lot of times. He was not interested to lead in T20Is. So, after he made that decision, I told him, if you're not interested to lead in T20Is, it's better if you step down from entire white-ball cricket. Let there be a white-ball captain and a red-ball captain," Ganguly said on Dadagiri Unlimited Season 10, a reality show.

In addition, Ganguly revealed he had to push Rohit Sharma to take over as the all-format captain after Kohli's resignation in January 2022. "I pushed Rohit Sharma a bit to take up the captaincy role because he wasn't interested to lead in all three formats of the game. So, maybe I have a bit of contribution in that but no matter who is administrating, it's the players who perform well on the field. I was appointed as the President of BCCI to work for the betterment of Indian cricket, this is a small part of it," he added.

Back then, Kohli wanted to carry on as the ODI and Test captain despite stepping down as the T20I skipper in September 2021. However, the board eventually sacked him as the ODI captain before he moved aside from the additional responsibility in the red-ball format. At present, Kohli is gearing up for India's two-match Test series versus South Africa, starting on Dec 26.

'Didn't remove Virat Kohli from captaincy': Former skipper and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly recalls controversy

India's star javelin&nbsp;thrower Neeraj Chopra has shared a valuable advice for speedster Jasprit Bumrah. During a recent interaction, the 25-year-old Neeraj lauded Bumrah -- who made a stunning international comeback during August after a 11-month hiatus due to back injury -- and revealed he finds his bowling action unique. However, Neeraj has asked Bumrah to 'lengthen' his run-up to add more pace in his bowling.

Speaking to the Indian Express, Neeraj said, "I like Jasprit Bumrah, I find his action unique. I feel he should lengthen his run-up to add more pace. As a javelin thrower, we often discuss how bowlers can increase their pace if they start their run-up from a little further back. I like Bumrah’s style."

Bumrah made a return to international cricket, since September 2022, during India's two T20Is versus Ireland in Dublin in mid-August. Captaining the side, he ended with four scalps and the Player-of-the-Series award. He followed it up with four wickets in India's victorious run in the 2023 Asia Cup. Following that, he returned with 20 wickets in India's 2023 ODI World Cup run, where Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. ended as runners-up.

Speaking about India's ODI WC final loss, to Australia in Ahmedabad last month, Neeraj said he was in attendance at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium for the summit clash. He feels Australia had 'an edge at the start', leading to their easy six-wicket win eventually.

Neeraj said, "Maybe, somewhere mentally, the Australian team held an edge at the start. When they bowled, I found they had a strong mindset. In the end, they had completely flipped it over." He added, "They were confident about their game."

‘Jasprit Bumrah should...’: India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra shares advice for pacer

India wrapped up the home five-match T20I series by winning the final game by six runs at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (Dec 3). Having already won the series with an unassailable 3-1 lead after the fourth T20I, Suryakumar Yadav-led India beat Matthew Wade's Australia by a whisker in defence of 160/8.

Being asked to bat first, India rode on Shreyas Iyer's 53 and vital runs from Jitesh Sharma and Axar Patel to post 160/8. In reply,&nbsp;Ben McDermott top-scored for the Aussies with a fine 54 but it was not enough.&nbsp;Arshdeep Singh defended 10 runs in the last over, with visitors managing&nbsp;154/8,&nbsp;to take his side to a 4-1 series triumph. After the series, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra opined on India's performance and made a big claim with regard to the Men in Blue's potential squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, in West Indies and USA.

Chopra feels there might be a toss-up between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill for India's T20 WC squad. Gaikwad ended as the top-scorer in the five T20Is, scoring&nbsp;223 runs&nbsp;at an average of 55.75 with a best of 123*.&nbsp;

Chopra lauded Gaikwad for being among runs and said on his YouTube channel, "Ruturaj Gaikwad - he said that he is there. Ruturaj is going to have stiff competition because Shubman Gill also plays like that. Rohit Sharma will also come now. So suddenly you will feel that you aren't even able to pick two among the three. So these runs were necessary."

The BCCI selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, announced India's squads for the upcoming all-format tour of South Africa, which commences on Dec 10. India play three T20Is and ODIs each and will end the tour with the all-important two-match Test series versus Temba Bavuma-led Proteas. Thus, all the three squads were announced on Thursday (Nov 30).

Rohit Sharma will lead India in the two Tests whereas Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul will be the captains in the T20I and ODI series, respectively. While some notable and experienced names missed out from featuring in any of the squads, young pace sensation Umran Malik also missed out on being part of any of the three squads. Thus, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan slammed the selectors for overlooking Umran (Irfan has worked closely with him during his days as Jammu and Kashmir's team mentor).

"I’m pretty sure the guy who was in the Indian team’s playing 11 few months back can surely find a place in India A side. #umranmalik," Pathan wrote on Twitter.

Veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin opened up on not being a part of India's playing XI for the ODI World Cup 2023 final, versus Australia, on Nov 19 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Ashwin played only one game in India's memorable WC campaign, which ended in a defeat in the final, and many thought he would be considered for the summit clash. However, he continued to sit out.&nbsp;

Ashwin said he supported Rohit Sharma's move, adding that the Indian captain had no reason to tweak the winning combination heading into the final.

India won 10&nbsp;games on the trot entering the final and Ashwin, who was out of the playing XI after India's tournament opener versus Australia, had little chance of coming in as a replacement.

<h2>'If I had been in Rohit's shoes, I would have thought 100 times...'</h2>

Speaking to S Badrinath on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, "As far as I am concerned, I playing the final, team combination and all that is secondary. Firstly, it's about empathy, I keep stressing it a lot. It's about standing in someone else's shoes and looking at things from his/her viewpoint. If I had been in Rohit's shoes, I would have thought 100 times about changing the combination. It was going very well for the team. Why would I rest a fast bowler and play 3 spinners?"

Ashwin added, "Honestly, I was able to understand the thought process of Rohit Sharma. Playing the final is a big opportunity. I was preparing for it for 3 days in the lead-up. I was not replying to a lot of people. I read only the ticker of WhatsApp messages and kept my phone away. I&nbsp;was preparing myself well for the opportunity. At the same time, I was prepared to cheer for the team and run in with electral if I didn't get the opportunity. I was mentally prepared for that too."

Ashwin ended with a solitary wicket&nbsp;having played just one game in the CWC 2023 edition. He is expected to be part of India's two Tests versus hosts South Africa -- to kick off next month.&nbsp;

'If I had been in Rohit's shoes, I would have thought 100 times...' Speaking to S Badrinath on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, "As far as I am concerned, I playing the final, team combination and all that is secondary. Firstly, it's about empathy, I keep stressing it a lot. It's about standing in someone else's shoes and looking at things from his/her viewpoint. If I had been in Rohit's shoes, I would have thought 100 times about changing the combination. It was going very well for the team. Why would I rest a fast bowler and play 3 spinners?" Also read: 'Rohit & Kohli were crying': Ashwin recalls India's CWC 2023 final loss, hails Hitman's leadership Ashwin added, "Honestly, I was able to understand the thought process of Rohit Sharma. Playing the final is a big opportunity. I was preparing for it for 3 days in the lead-up. I was not replying to a lot of people. I read only the ticker of WhatsApp messages and kept my phone away. I was preparing myself well for the opportunity. At the same time, I was prepared to cheer for the team and run in with electral if I didn't get the opportunity. I was mentally prepared for that too." Ashwin ended with a solitary wicket having played just one game in the CWC 2023 edition. He is expected to be part of India's two Tests versus hosts South Africa -- to kick off next month.

Understood Rohit Sharma's decision to not play me in ODI World Cup 2023 final, says R Ashwin

India are set to tour South Africa for an all-format tour, starting on Dec 10. The tour comprises three T20Is and ODIs each and will end with a two-match Test series, early next year. Ahead of the announcement of the squads for the upcoming SA tour, reports have emerged that Suryakumar Yadav is&nbsp;a frontrunner to lead India in T20Is in the African nation. At present, Surya is leading a second-stringed Indian team in the five T20Is versus Australia at home, with the hosts leading 2-1 after three games.&nbsp;

As per a report&nbsp;filed by news agency&nbsp;PTI, Surya is emerging as the top candidate to take charge of the T20I side during the forthcoming tour amid uncertainty over Rohit Sharma&nbsp;and Hardik Pandya's absence due to injury. After India's ODI World Cup final loss, Rohit has been out of action and his continued non-participation from T20Is -- since the last T20 World Cup -- has raised doubts on his future in the format. Certain reports have also indicated that BCCI remains keen to have him as the full-time captain but if he remains reluctant, SKY will lead with no Hardik -- who is still recovering from an ankle injury.

"Yes, there remains a question what happens when Hardik comes back but in BCCI, they feel that if Rohit agrees to lead in T20Is, he will lead in the T20 World Cup. In case Rohit doesn't agree then Surya continues as captain for T20Is in South Africa," a BCCI source told the news agency.&nbsp;

Reports have also emerged that Virat Kohli, who also remains out of action following the World Cup heartbreak, is considering taking a break from white-ball formats and will join Team India only for the two Tests versus South Africa in the African nation. The squads for the SA tour are likely to be announced on Thursday (Nov 30).

Suryakumar Yadav to lead India in SA T20Is amid uncertainity over Rohit and Hardik's absence - Reports

Veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin recently recalled India's ODI World Cup 2023 final loss&nbsp;to Australia on Nov 19 in Ahmedabad. He stated that it broke his heart when he saw captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in tears following their six-wicket defeat. India had a stunning run throughout the home ODI WC, winning ten games on the trot to enter the summit clash, where they eventually came second. Ashwin recalled the campaign and spoke at length about the chemistry between Rohit and Kohli before hailing Hitman's leadership.&nbsp;

Speaking to S Badrinath on his YouTube channel, Ashwin stated, "Yes, we felt the pain. Rohit and Virat were crying. Seeing that it felt bad. Anyways, not meant to be. This team was an experienced team. Everybody knew what to do. And then, it was professional. Everybody knew their routines, warm-ups. I think two natural leaders gave the team the space to do these two and created a vibe."

Ashwin lauded Rohit's captaincy as Hitman led from the front, with his blazing starts, ending with 597 runs -- most by a captain in an ODI WC -- and marshalled the troops really well. He further opined, "If you look at Indian cricket, everybody will tell you MS Dhoni is one of the best captains. Rohit Sharma is an outstanding person. He understands every single person in the team, he knows what each one of us likes and dislikes. He has a great understanding. He puts in the effort to know each member personally."

He mentioned, "He puts in a lot of effort. Forgoes sleep and becomes part of meetings, he first puts in the effort. He makes an effort to understand how to explain tactics to each person. That's an advanced level of leadership in Indian cricket."

Ashwin then spoke highly about Rohit's fearless approach with the bat at the top and added, "And also, walking the talk. Telling everyone to play a brand of cricket is one thing, but doing it and showing it on the field is another thing. I have known Rohit for a long time. What he did at the top set the ball rolling. he gave us the confidence. He said 'it's okay if we get out for 150. At least we will set the tone, instil fear'. I think all 11 in the team had a great World Cup."

As per reports, the BCCI is keen to have Rohit as India's all-format skipper at least till the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. On Wednesday (Nov 29), head coach Rahul Dravid agreed to extend his contract, which was to end with the 50-over mega event, till the T20 WC next year.

'Rohit & Kohli were crying': Ashwin recalls India's CWC 2023 final loss, hails Hitman's leadership

Ruturaj Gaikwad slammed his first-ever international ton during India's third T20I, of the five-match series, versus Australia in Guwahati. Suryakumar Yadav-led India were asked to bat first and the home side rode on Gaikwad's majestic 123 not out, off 57 balls, to post a challenging 222 for 3. However, the home side could not defend the score as Glenn Maxwell's 104 not out, off 48 balls, took his side to a memorable five-wicket win on the last ball to keep the series alive. India still lead 2-1 but missed out on taking an unassailable 3-0 lead despite Gaikwad's hundred.

After the match, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra heaped praise on Gaikwad and feels he will represent India in all three forms of the game.&nbsp;"Everybody knows what kind of a player he is (Ruturaj Gaikwad). When you talk about Yashasvi Jaiswal, his game is completely different compared to Ruturaj Gaikwad's. You need solidity in the T20 format as well and that's what Gaikwad brings to the table. There's no doubt that Ruturaj Gaikwad is a three-format player for India," Nehra said on Jio Cinema.

"The kind of elegance that Ruturaj Gaikwad shows is unbelievable, amazing and it was (century in 2nd T20I) a great, great, great knock," Nehra concluded. Gaikwad slammed his maiden ton in his 21st international match, however, it came at a losing cause as Indian bowlers could not defend the score due to the dew factor.&nbsp;

After riding on Gaikwad's 123*, India was in control with Australia in a spot of bother at 134 for 5 in 13.3 overs in pursuit of 223. However, Maxwell -- who conceded 30 runs in India's final over -- produced yet another masterclass as he stitched an unbroken 91-run sixth-wicket stand to take his side home. The right-hander slammed his second T20I ton, which was laced with 8 fours and an equal number of sixes at a strike rate of 216.67.

The action now moves to the fourth and penultimate T20I, which will be held in Raipur on Friday (Dec 1).

Deeply appreciate my family's sacrifices: Rahul Dravid after agreeing to continue as India head coach

Rahul Dravid is set to continue as India's head coach after accepting the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) offer to extend his contract. It is to be noted that Dravid's contract was till the 2023 ODI World Cup, where India ended as runners-up. However, the former Indian captain will continue to serve as the head coach at least till the 2024 T20 World Cup to be held early next year in the West Indies and USA. The contracts of the support staff -- who joined&nbsp;during&nbsp;Dravid's first stint&nbsp;namely, Vikram Rathour (batting coach), Paras Mhambrey (bowling coach) and T Dilip (fielding coach) -- have been extended as well.

It is to be noted that Dravid took over as India men's head coach in late 2021 after Ravi Shastri's tenure ended. Under him, India remained a dominant force at home across formats and ended as runners-up in the WTC 2023 cycle and the home ODI WC (winning ten games on the trot to enter the final, where they lost to Australia by six wickets). In addition, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 WC in Australia.&nbsp;

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, BCCI has been impressed with Dravid's working style. They were eager to continue with him in a bid to ensure continuity to the structure he had put in place since late 2021. The board feared that it might otherwise get disrupted under a new coach.

Rahul Dravid agrees to contract extension, to continue as India head coach at least till 2024 T20 World Cup

The ODI World Cup 2023 edition ended less than two weeks back&nbsp;in India. Rohit Sharma-led India lost the final to Australia as the Men in Yellow clinched their sixth ODI WC title. There is another ICC event coming up in less than a year with the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and USA. Hence, all the teams are now gearing up for the biggest event in the shortest format.&nbsp;

For India, it remains to be seen who will lead the side in the next edition of the T20 WC. Rohit Sharma has not led the side in the format since their 2022 T20 WC semi-final defeat to eventual winners England. Since then, Hardik Pandya has been the stand-in captain but he is also not leading the Men in Blue in their ongoing home T20Is versus Australia due to injury concerns.

Thus, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan was asked whether who should lead India in the 2024 T20 WC. In this regard, while speaking on Cricbuzz, Zaheer said, "Well, because T20 World Cup is just around the corner and there is not a lot of time, so you have to go in with experience. You will have to give that preference to the experienced guy and I will not be surprised if they decide to go ahead with Rohit Sharma himself."

Zaheer opined, "He’s the guy who has been around for a while. He understands handling situations, handling pressure, all those kind of aspects. You still have time for all these other names (talking about the several players who have led&nbsp;in recent times&nbsp;-- such as Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Hardik, Ruturaj Gaikwad, etc.) which are there in that list to take the mantle forward."

The former speedster added, "It’s just around six months times (for the World Cup to begin). You have a big tournament like the IPL in between which will give them enough time to prepare. So it’s either going to be Rohit Sharma or depending on how Hardik goes about his rehab, comeback. The challenge is that he’s not going to be playing that many games."

Even the likes of former cricketers such as Gautam Gambhir and Parthiv Patel have voted for Rohit to lead India in the next T20 WC. It will be interesting to see if Hitman returns in T20Is and if he is ready to lead in another ICC event after the heartbreaks of the 2022 T20 WC, WTC final 2023 and this year's ODI WC at home.

You have a big tournament like the IPL in between which will give them enough time to prepare. So it’s either going to be Rohit Sharma or depending on how Hardik goes about his rehab, comeback. The challenge is that he’s not going to be playing that many games." Even the likes of former cricketers such as Gautam Gambhir and Parthiv Patel have voted for Rohit to lead India in the next T20 WC. It will be interesting to see if Hitman returns in T20Is and if he is ready to lead in another ICC event after the heartbreaks of the 2022 T20 WC, WTC final 2023 and this year's ODI WC at home.

'He is the guy': Former India pacer picks THIS player to captain Men in Blue in 2024 T20 WC

India beat Australia by two wickets in the five-match T20I series opener at the&nbsp;Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Thursday (Nov 23). Under Suryakumar Yadav, India opted to bowl first as Australia rode on Josh Inglis' 50-ball 110, laced with 11 fours and 8 sixes, to post 208 for 3. In reply, India were in a spot of bother at 22 for 2 before stand-in captain Suryakumar's 42-ball 80, Ishan Kishan's 39-ball 58 and Rinku Singh's 14-ball unbeaten 22 took India past the finish line. Thus, Surya's first-ever match as international captain ended with a win.

For his impressive and counter-attacking 80, Surya also ended with the Player-of-the-Match award. Thus, the Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter joined Jasprit Bumrah to become only the second Indian to win the POTM award on T20I captaincy debut. It is to be noted that Bumrah achieved the feat early this year, when he captained India for the first time in the shortest format during the three-match T20I series opener versus Ireland, in Dublin, in mid-August (which was also his return to international cricket after a long injury layoff).&nbsp;

Overall, SKY became the 13th Indian to lead in the shortest format of the game. So far, the likes of Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Bumrah, Ruturaj Gaikwad and SKY have led India in T20Is.

At the post-match presentation, SKY stated, "Very happy with the way the boys played. Was very happy with their energy, we were put under pressure but the way everyone showed up was amazing. It’s a proud moment, very proud moment, everytime you play, you think about representing India but coming out here and captaining India is a big moment. Thought there will be a little bit of dew but there wasn’t. It isn’t a big ground and I knew batting will get easy. Thought they might get 230-235 but the bowlers did really well. Just enjoy and express yourself. We’ve been in such situations many times in franchise cricket, just told Ishan to enjoy himself. We knew what was going to happen."

He added, "I left the luggage of captaincy in the dressing room. I try to enjoy my batting. The atmosphere was amazing, thanks to the crowd. Was great to see how the boys kept their nerves. Was great to see Rinku, the situation was tailor-made for him. He was calm and collected, calmed me down a little bit. Incredible achievement from the bowlers to restrict them to this total after the 16th over."

Ind vs Aus, 1st T20I: Suryakumar joins Jasprit Bumrah in ELITE list after memorable captaincy debut

India edged past Australia by two wickets in the five-match T20I series opener, in Visakhapatnam, on Thursday (Nov 23). Opting to bowl first, Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners courtesy of Josh Inglis' 50-ball 110 as the Aussies posted 208 for 3. However, at one point even a total in excess of 220 looked possible. In reply, India were tottering at 22 for 2 before Suryakumar Yadav (42-ball 80) and Ishan Kishan (39-ball 58) stitched a memorable 112-run third-wicket stand whereas Rinku Singh played a crucial hand (14-ball 22*) to take the hosts home in a last-over thriller.

After the game, Suryakumar opened up on a memorable win as India went&nbsp;1-0 up in the five T20Is. This was SKY's first-ever game as India captain and the veteran right-hander ended with an impressive knock, also winning the Player-of-the-Match. Post India's win, SKY credited wicketkeeper-batter Kishan for his whirlwind knock.

"I think he helped me really well. For me to be fearless, him staying there, and his knock was very important," Surya said in the BCCI video. The duo took on the Aussie bowlers strategically and targeted the shorter boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking.&nbsp;

SKY also heaped praise on Rinku, who is slowly but steadily gaining a name for himself as India's T20I finisher. "I think it was very calm, though, but it was a very it was a pressure situation. We didn't want to put too much pressure on the later batters, credit to Surya bhai, he planned his innings superbly, he can always play the big shots whenever needed. The plan was to get quick runs (on the partnership), so even if I got out, we needed the runs on the board. The ball I got out, he wanted me to look for a single, but the gap between runs required and balls left was big and I had to go for my shots. It's a young side, most of them have not played against big teams like this, we'll make mistakes, we'll talk about it during the team meetings and come back better with the ball in the next match."

India beat Australia by two wickets in a chase of 209 in the five-match T20I series opener at the Dr&nbsp;YS&nbsp;Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Thursday (Nov 23). Under Suryakumar Yadav, India opted to bowl first, but Josh Inglis' 50-ball 110 propelled Australia to 208 for 3 in 20 overs. In reply, India were on the back foot at 22 for 2 before Ishan Kishan's 39-ball 58, Surya's 42-ball 80 and Rinku Singh's 14-ball 22 not out took India past the finish line in 19.5 overs after Sean Abbott bowled a no-ball on the final delivery, with two needed for a win.&nbsp;

After the triumph, India achieved a special feat as they have now become the side with the most successful run-chases of 200 or more in the shortest format of the game. India went past the finish line for the fifth time during a run-chase of 200 or more, surpassing South Africa's tally (4).&nbsp;

At the post-match presentation, stand-in captain SKY said, "Very happy with the way the boys played.

India attain SPECIAL feat after chasing 209 vs Australia in 1st T20I in Visakhapatnam

Rahul Dravid's two-year contract as Team India's head coach came to an end with India's ODI World Cup final loss to Australia, on November 19 in Ahmedabad. Dravid was given the top job after Ravi Shastri's exit in late 2021. The former Indian captain's contract was set to get over with the ODI WC campaign, at home, and The Wall is unwilling to extend his contract.

As per a report in TOI, multiple sources close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed that Dravid is not interested in extending his contract any further and, hence, his close friend VVS Laxman is likely to succeed him as India's head coach. Laxman, who is the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), is currently acting as the head coach for India's five T20Is versus Australia at home. He has donned the role on a few occasions as well, when a second-stringed India toured Zimbabwe,&nbsp;Ireland and New Zealand as well as hosted South Africa during Dravid's tenure.

A reliable source in the BCCI told TOI, "Laxman has expressed his keenness for the job. During the World Cup, Laxman travelled to Ahmedabad to meet the BCCI's top bosses in this regard. He's likely to sign a long-time contract as the Team India coach, and will certainly travel with the team in that capacity for the upcoming tour of South Africa, which will be his first as the full-time India head coach."

The source further revealed, "Dravid has communicated to the BCCI that he isn't keen to continue as a full-time coach. For close to 20 years, he has travelled with the Indian team as a player, and for the past couple of years, he again went through the same grind, which he doesn't want to undergo. He's fine with a role at the NCA as the head there (a role he previously served in), which will allow him to stay back in his hometown Bengaluru. Like earlier, he's fine with coaching the team sporadically, but not again as a full-time coach."

Another source informed&nbsp;that Dravid is&nbsp;already in talks with an IPL team for a two-year contract.&nbsp;"He's in talks with an IPL team for a big two-year contract," the source shared.

With Dravid set to go, Laxman might continue with the former's support staff --&nbsp;batting coach&nbsp;Vikram Rathour, bowling coach&nbsp;Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T Dilip -- or bring in his own set of people in the mix.&nbsp;

"They might continue, or Laxman, like any other coach, might want to bring his own set of people in the support staff," the source added.&nbsp;

Hence, an official announcement is awaited with regard to India's head coach position. Under Dravid, India won the Asia Cup (ODIs), reached the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals, and ended as runners-up in the WTC Final and ODI WC at home. India continued to remain dominant at home across formats -- only losing an ODI series to Australia -- but lost a Test series in South Africa, a one-off Test in England, a T20I series versus West Indies in West Indies and the USA and fell flat in the 2022&nbsp;Asia Cup (T20Is).

VVS Laxman set to succeed Rahul Dravid as India's head coach after latter unwilling to extend contract: Report

R Ashwin&nbsp;opened up on getting just one game in the recently-concluded ODI World Cup at home. Ashwin was not part of India's initial World Cup squad but an injury to spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel led to his inclusion just days before the tournament's commencement. Ashwin featured in India's opening game, where they met eventual winners Australia in Chennai, but never featured in the playing XI from there on.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 37-year-old Ashwin said, "Never thought that my run at the World Cup would end after playing one match in Chennai, because I was bowling with good rhythm."

In the game between India and Australia, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Oct 8, Ashwin ended with match figures of 1 for 34 as India dismissed the Aussies for 199 in 49.3 overs riding on Ravindra Jadeja's 3 for 28. Later, India chased down the score with ease, despite early jitters, thanks to Virat Kohli's 85 and KL Rahul's 97 not out.

From thereon, Ashwin lost his place to Shardul Thakur as India went for more pace options before Hardik Pandya's injury and eventual&nbsp;omission led to the wily off-spinner sitting it out.

Ashwin revealed that he was going to play versus New Zealand, in Dharamsala, however, Hardik's absence&nbsp;changed India's plans. After that, India went ahead with five bowlers -- Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.&nbsp;

"My return was supposed to come against New Zealand at Dharamsala, Hardik had a heartbreaking injury. Hardik Pandya was an important figure because we did not have an all-rounder to replace him," Ashwin further added.

Under Rohit, India played&nbsp;brilliant cricket to win ten games in a row to enter the tournament-final, where they faced Australia on Nov 19 in Ahmedabad. However, they had an off-day in the summit clash&nbsp;to lose by six wickets.

Reflecting on the hosts' campaign, Ashwin further added, "Both Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma said that they had well laid out, strong plans. This World Cup had us playing an exciting brand of cricket."

Never thought my journey would end in opening match: R Ashwin on getting just one game in CWC '23

India lost to Australia by six wickets in the 2023 ODI World Cup final on Nov 19 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, Team India was on a roll and won ten games on the trot before losing the finale after managing only 240 in 50 overs. In reply, Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 not out sealed the deal for the Aussies, who&nbsp;won their sixth ODI WC title overall.

Thus, India missed a golden opportunity to win another ODI WC, which would have been their third overall, at home. After the heartbreaking loss, players are slowly and steadily trying to move on from the heavy defeat. Kuldeep Yadav, one of India's key players in the 2023 edition, also shared a heartfelt post for fans following India's unfulfilled campaign. He thanked&nbsp;the Indian fans for their constant support and revealed that it was time to switch off and recharge as the team members are&nbsp;trying to move on.

Kuldeep took to his official account on X, formerly Twitter, and wrote, "Our journey from Chennai to Ahmedabad ended in a disappointing result, but we take pride in our achievements over the six weeks. Despite the pain, we're determined to work harder for the next opportunity. Thanks to our dedicated support staff, we were fully prepared for every opponent, and their commitment reassured us as players."

"The love from fans at each of the 9 venues touched our hearts and motivated us to exceed our limits. We're grateful to passionate fans worldwide and in every Indian Household for their support.

While the pain of defeat lingers...: Kuldeep Yadav reacts, pens heartfelt note after India's ODI WC final loss

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir feels India were not brave enough with the bat in the middle overs which cost them dearly in the ODI World Cup final loss versus Australia on Nov 19 in Ahmedabad. Rohit Sharma-led India were asked to bat first at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. They were 82 for 3 after 10 overs but they went into a shell and only managed four boundaries (not even a single six) for the rest of the 40 overs. The middle overs, from 11 to 40, saw Indian batters hit only two fours and, thus, India ended with 240 in 50 overs, which was eventually chased down by Australia with&nbsp;six wickets in hand&nbsp;in 43 overs.

Thus, Gambhir believes India's timid show with the bat in the middle overs resulted in their big loss. Speaking to Sportskeeda, the 2011 ODI WC winner said, "It's a double-edged sword. But I have always said this, the most courageous team will go on to win the World Cup. I can understand that you need time to build a partnership but 11 to 40 overs is a very, very long time. Someone should have taken that risk."

Gambhir further pointed out, "I would have actually liked India going really aggressive with their top 6-7 batters even if they had been all out for 150. I would have been fine. But if you feel you can defend 240 in a World Cup final...that is not where you fight. It is either this way or that. Either we go 150 all out or 300. That is where India have lacked. That is where India have not gone on to win ICC tournaments. Rohit should have sent the message before the game that even if I get out we should go aggressive."

Gambhir felt that since Virat Kohli -- who ended with most runs in the 2023 edition (765) -- was playing the role of an anchor, other batters should have been more aggressive. "Kohli has played a role of anchoring the innings, but the rest all should have been aggressive. KL should have gone. What harm would it have caused? We would have been 150 all out. But had we been brave, we could scored 310 and India would have been world champions. This is not the 1990s. 240 is not a good score at all. You need 300-plus totals. India were not brave enough," Gambhir added.

Being all-out for 240 in 50 overs, India had Australia reeling at 47 for 3 before Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 not out took their side home with seven overs to spare. With the win, Australia lifted their sixth ODI WC trophy.&nbsp;

Gautam Gambhir feels India's timid batting in middle-overs cost them in CWC 2023 final vs Australia

India ended the home ODI World Cup with a crushing six-wicket loss at the hands of Australia&nbsp;on Sunday (Nov 19) in Ahmedabad. Being asked to bat first, India only managed 240 in 50 overs before Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 not out took Pat Cummins-led Australia past the finish line in 43 overs. Despite having a brilliant run throughout the World Cup, Rohit Sharma-led India couldn't win the trophy. Nonetheless, there were several memorable performances from India throughout the edition.&nbsp;

Mohammed Shami, who didn't play in India's first four games, ended with most wickets in the tournament (24). Shami ended with two five-wicket hauls, including a 7 for 57 in the semi-finals. In a recent interaction with PUMA, Shami opened up on Pakistan's former player Hasan Raza's absurd claims against India. During India's dominance in the league stage, Raza had come up with several bizarre claims on India's performance. He alleged that&nbsp;the International Cricket Council (ICC) was giving different balls to India following the pacers' superb show versus England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, etc. Shami had first slammed such claims on Instagram before talking about it once again in the recent interaction.

"I know I can be bitter while speaking the truth but if I don't open my mouth after all this then it won't be right," Shami said in a podcast with PUMA.

Couldn't digest India's success in ODI WC: Shami launches SCATHING attack on former Pakistan player

Team India’s dream run came to an end with a billion heartbreaks as Australia clinched their sixth title by securing a six-wicket victory in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The tournament’s leading wicket-taker, pacer Mohammed Shami, set the tone with a fiery start, claiming David Warner on his very first ball. But despite this promising beginning, India couldn’t seize the moment.

Emerging as the most impressive sportsperson in the tournament with 24 wickets from eight games, including three impressive fifers, Shami’s journey since 2015 has been nothing short of a movie script. Shami, who’s also the PUMA brand ambassador, spoke his heart out in an extensive interview during his visit to the sports brand’s headquarter in Bengaluru.

“Nobody knew the pain I was dealing with [during the 2015 edition],” Shami confessed during a candid chat with PUMA as he revealed his success mantra of not taking a close look at the wicket before the start of the match, just to keep himself relaxed.

In the exclusive interview, Shami also opened up about various facets of his difficult yet impressive cricketing journey, right from scoring a century as an opener in his first leather ball match, earning money through cricket for the first time at around 16 years of age, overcoming personal challenges bravely, creating an old-school training set-up at farmhouse, to maiden India call-up and many more.

“I had swelling in my knee before the 2015 tournament. Someone else could have said no but I have the ability to bear pain and I was told two options—either directly go for surgery or play the tournament and then go for the surgery. While the team would return to the hotel after every match, I would go to the hospital to take the injection. When you play for the country, you forget everything,“ Shami shared.

Shami underwent a knee operation. “I was unconscious for two hours. When I woke up, I asked the doctor when I could start playing. He replied, ‘It will be a big achievement if you walk without a limp, forget playing. It all depends on how you go about your rehab,” the pacer stated.

Shami has not looked back since. His comeback journey has been visibly inspirational. He not only surpassed the likes of bowling greats to become the highest wicket-taker for the country in the world’s biggest cricket tournament with 55 wickets from 18 matches, but also created history earlier in the semi-finals when he registered India’s best ODI bowling figures of 7-57.

The 33-year-old shared his secret that helps him perform better. “Generally, bowlers check the pitch after arriving at the ground. I never go close to the wicket because you will know how it behaves only when you bowl on it. Then why take the pressure? It’s best to keep it simple, keep yourself relaxed and only then you will perform better,” said Shami, as he also revealed that he doesn’t follow any pre-match ritual.

“Better hai aap subah utho, mast fresh hojao, chaay peeyo, gaane suno [it’s better you wake up, get fresh, have tea and listen to songs] ” he added.

Although Shami was in stellar form in the tournament, he had to sit out for the initial few matches. In the interaction, he shared that it bothered him but the team’s performance made him happy. “When you sit out for four matches, you need to be mentally strong. Sometimes you are under pressure but when you see the team performing well and going in a good direction, it gives you satisfaction.”

He added that he doesn’t look at record books and only tries to take as many wickets as possible.

India lost to Australia by six wickets in the ODI World Cup final on Sunday (Nov 19) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Being asked to bat first, Rohit Sharma-led India were dismissed for 240 in 50 overs after fifties from Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66). In reply, Australia were tottering at 47 for 3 before Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out) stitched a match-winning 192-run fourth-wicket stand and took Aussies home.

Mitchell Starc's 3 for 55 and two wickets each from Josh Hazlewood and skipper Pat Cummins derailed India's progress with the bat before Head's attacking knock brought India down. India had a memorable run in the entire home ODI WC but fell flat in the final game. The hosts ended with ten wins, which came on the trot, and just a solitary defeat that came in the summit clash.

<h2>'Indian&nbsp;cricket is in a good place'</h2>

After India missed out on winning another home ODI WC, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram sympathised with Rohit &amp; Co. and made a big statement on Indian cricket.

"Obviously they must be shattered to lose the final but in cricket these things happen. India had one bad day, and unfortunately, it came in the final. You look at their structure, the money for players, the well thought out programs and the back up talent and they really just need to continue doing these things. Their cricket is in a good place,”&nbsp;Akram was quoted as saying by PTI.

Indian cricket is in good place, says Pakistan legend Wasim Akram after India's ODI WC final loss

Rohit Sharma-led India were demolished by Pat Cummins' Australia in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition's final on Sunday (Nov 19) in Ahmedabad. Being asked to bat first&nbsp;at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, India only managed 240 in 50 overs with skipper Rohit (40), Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) being the top-performers. The target was always&nbsp;below-par and Australia chased it down in 43 overs with six wickets in hand.

Despite reeling at 47 for 3 at one point, Australia came back resolutely and went past India comfortably due to Travis Head's 137 and Marnus Labuschagne's 58 not out. After the game, many Indian players were emotional as the fans were also left shattered. As the dust has settled down on the heavy defeat, many Indian cricketers have reacted to the lost opportunity and opener Shubman Gill also joined the bandwagon.

The 24-year-old Gill, who missed the first two games in CWC 2023 due to dengue, shared a heartfelt post&nbsp;on X, formerly Twitter. <h2>'We were not good enough today'</h2>

At the post-match presentation of the final, Indian captain&nbsp;Rohit opened up on the loss. He said, "The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn't supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets. We tried everything we could but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don't want to give that as an excuse."

This became Australia's sixth men's ODI WC triumph; most by any team. Meanwhile, India's wait for an ICC title continues with their last major success coming in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy, under MS Dhoni,&nbsp;in England and Wales.

At the post-match presentation, a dejected Rohit opened up on the loss in the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Hitman&nbsp;said, "The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn't supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets. When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne who stitched together a big partnership and put us completely out of the game. We tried everything we could but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don't want to give that as an excuse."

India played fantastically well in CWC 2023: Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi lauds hosts despite loss in final

India played Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final on Sunday (Nov 19) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue lost to the Aussies by six wickets&nbsp;while defending 240, as Travis Head's 137&nbsp;made a mockery of the below-par target set by the hosts. During the game, a lot of dignitaries and celebrities were in attendance whereas PM Narendra Modi also visited the stadium.

However, Kapil Dev -- India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain -- was not in attendance, which made heads turn. During an interaction with ABP News, Kapil stated that he wasn't invited to the mega final by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As per reports, it was believed that the BCCI had&nbsp;plans to&nbsp;invite and honour&nbsp;all the ex-World Cup winning captains from the past.&nbsp;

“I wasn’t invited. They didn’t call me so I did not go. As simple as that. I wanted the whole ’83 team to be there with me but I guess due to the fact that it’s such a big event and people are so busy handling responsibilities, sometimes they forget,” Dev can be heard saying in a video, which is available on social media X, while speaking to ABP News.

Even MS Dhoni -- India's ODI WC winning captain in 2011 -- was speculated to be in attendance for the final. However, he was also not seen in the stands. Sourav Ganguly, former Indian skipper and BCCI chief, was present for the match, which turned one-sided with Pat Cummins &amp; Co.'s dominance.

Team India&nbsp;had a memorable run in the entire mega event at home,&nbsp;winning 10 games on the trot, but succumbed to pressure in the final and missed out on another opportunity to win an ICC title.

Ahead of the final versus Australia, captain Rohit spoke at length on head coach Rahul Dravid and how the team is motivated to win the ODI WC for the former cricketer. "There's one thing for me to think about (being aggressive) and the other thing for the coach to not agree to certain things. Clearly, looking at how Rahul&nbsp;bhai&nbsp;himself has played his cricket and how I am playing these days, obviously it's quite contrasting. For him to agree and give me that freedom and liberty to go and play the way we want to play, that says a lot about him."

Rohit Sharma has been the MVP in CWC 2023: Dinesh Karthik heaps praise on India captain

India are set to take on Australia in the CWC 2023 final on Sunday (Nov 19) at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. So far, India have been on a rampage, winning 10&nbsp;games in the ongoing competition. They will meet the Aussies, who are on an eight-match winning streak, and, thus, it promises to be an enthralling finale.

Ahead of the final, former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik heaped praise on KL Rahul -- one of India's top-performers in the ODI WC. In nine games, Rahul has held on to some impressive catches behind the stumps and scored 386 runs batting at No. 5; playing different roles as per match situations. Malik, thus, lauded Rahul and labelled him the 'best at No. 5 in world cricket'.

<h2>'He can finish the match, can improvise, can play with a good strike rate'</h2>

Malik said while speaking on&nbsp;A Sports' show The Pavillion, "The best at No 5 in the world cricket. Klassen (Heinrich) needs a base to get going. But if you compare, India have got the best batter at 5, who can play in any sort of situation. This is why KL bats at 5. If India lose two or three wickets early, he is someone, who can play according to the situation."

"He can finish the match, can improvise, can play with a good strike rate, and we have seen it today. He is good against spinners as well as the pacers. He picks the gaps and plays the field. Against Australia, we have seen, he was the one who finished the match,"&nbsp;Malik added.

Rahul has had scores of 97*, 19*, 34*, 27, 39, 21, 8, 102, 39* in the ODI WC at home. The right-hander has been more than handy behind the stumps as well, assisting captain Rohit Sharma with DRS calls and holding on to most of the chances (stumpings or catching opportunities). He will hope to make a mark in the upcoming final as well to help India win their third 50-over WC title.

World Cup 2023: 'KL Rahul is the best No. 5 in world cricket - Former Pak captain lauds Indian stumper

Veteran Indian stumper&nbsp;Dinesh Karthik made a bold claim that Rohit Sharma-led India is the 'strongest team that India has had in ODIs'. At present, Rohit &amp; Co. are having a dream run in the ongoing ten-team home ODI World Cup with eight wins on the trot. Ahead of their last league game, versus the Netherlands on Sunday (Nov 12) in Bengaluru, Karthik heaped praise on the current ODI team and made a huge statement.

<h2>'There's no Indian team that....'</h2>

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Karthik said, "I'm going out on a limb to say this but this Indian team is probably the strongest team that India has ever had in ODIs. In World Cups for sure. There's no Indian team that has dominated like this current 2023 team. You have to pit it against other Indian teams which have done very well but it will run other teams very close to it being the greatest ODI team ever in terms of performances and pressure."

So far in the ODI WC, India have beaten the likes of five-time champions Australia, Afghanistan, arch-rivals Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka and South Africa and will look to make it nine wins in a row to end the league stage and enter the semi-finals on a high. They have clicked in every department and weathered all storms, battling injuries etc., to keep going forward.&nbsp;

The home side are most likely to face New Zealand in the first semi-final, in Mumbai, on Wednesday (Nov 15) with Australia and South Africa facing each other in the second semi-final a day after, in Kolkata. Only Pakistan have an outside chance to topple the Kiwis and enter the semis, but that is highly unlikely.

Opening up on a possible semi-final versus New Zealand, Karthik spoke on the conditions and India's probable XI which will take the field&nbsp;at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. In this regard, he said, "It's in Mumbai, the first big decision, if they win the toss, will be if they would bat first or bowl first because there will be dew but then they will have to get past that first spell. The first 10 overs the ball swings and moves. There's no question what the level is going to be till the finals. It's going to be the same XI. Every player has ticked the box and is looking good for the semis."
