Ahead of the third Test versus England, former Indian pacer RP Singh opened up on captain Rohit Sharma's form struggles. In the first two Tests, Rohit failed to get a big score and could not even cross the 50-run mark in four outings. After the opening two games, he has scores of 24, 39, 14 and 13. Thus, Singh opined on Rohit's struggles and feels the Indian captain is 'overthinking' and being 'over cautious'.&nbsp;

Talking on Cricbuzz, Singh stated, "Rohit Sharma is overthinking. He's thinking about playing a big knock, build at least two-three partnerships in the absence of other main players to take the innings forward. He's being over-cautious in trying to do that. He's not that kind of a player. His style is different. He is a free-flowing batter and that is missing. He can play his shots. An over-cautious Rohit is not good both as a batter and as a person."

Rohit has not looked very sure in the middle. He has got starts in every outing but failed to make the most of them, falling to both spin and pace. In the second Test in Visakhapatnam, he looked very timid and cautious in the middle, leading to his dismissal. It will be interesting to see how he approaches the rest of the series given India are already without Virat Kohli (due to personal reasons) whereas there are several injury woes in the batting department (with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer currently ruled out). Thus, India need Rohit to fire on all cylinders with the series interestingly poised at 1-1 with three games to go.&nbsp;

Ind vs Eng: He is overthinking, being over-cautious - Former Indian pacer on Rohit Sharma's form struggles

Ahead of the third Test versus England, in Rajkot, India's wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav spoke on Ravindra Jadeja's availability for the crucial encounter. Jadeja featured in the first Test, in Hyderabad, but missed the second Test, in Visakhapatnam, due to&nbsp;a hamstring injury. He is now back in the Indian squad after attaining full fitness but it remains to be seen if he will be included in the playing XI straightaway. Given Rohit Sharma-led India have a lot of injury concerns, Jadeja's availability remains crucial for the upcoming Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association, Rajkot.&nbsp;

Addressing the media in the pre-match presser, spinner Kuldeep opined on Jadeja and said on his availability, "I think so. Ravindra Jadeja did his routine and had a session yesterday too. He is available." Thus, the 29-year-old is confident of the all-rounder's return to the playing XI for the third Test.

If Jadeja returns, there will be a toss-up between Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Given R Ashwin will spearhead the spin department, only one among Kuldeep and Axar will be part of the spin trio. For India, they will hope for Jadeja to be part of the playing XI given they are already without Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, with injuries, whereas Virat Kohli remains unavailable for personal reasons.&nbsp;

Jadeja accounted for five wickets in the first Test in Hyderabad, along with&nbsp;an impressive 80 in the first innings. His experience on his home ground, in Rajkot, will also come in handy for Rohit &amp; Co.&nbsp;

Former England stumper Alec Stewart made a massive statement ahead of the third India-England Test, which gets underway on Feb 15 in Rajkot. Stewart, a veteran of 133 Tests for England (with over 8,000 runs and 277 dismissals in whites), stated that MS Dhoni had quick hands behind the stumps but current English keeper-batter Ben Foakes has 'the quickest hands&nbsp;in the game'.&nbsp;

Dhoni ended his international career as one of the greats of the game, known for his captaincy, keeping and finishing skills along with several good performances with the bat in Tests and ODIs. Talking about his wicketkeeping, he ended with 256 catches and 38 stumpings in Tests, 321 catches and 123 stumpings in ODIs, and claimed 57 catches along with 34 stumpings in T20Is. Foakes, on the other hand,&nbsp;has represented England in 22 Tests, claiming 63 catches along with eight stumpings. The right-handed batter has not had&nbsp;much to do with the bat in the ongoing India series, however, he has been a force to reckon with behind the stumps&nbsp;with six dismissals.

<h2>'Foakes does things that no one else can do'</h2>

Foakes has impressed one and all with his keeping skills in India, which is a tough place for any gloveman. Stewart, while talking to the Times, said,&nbsp;"MS Dhoni had quick hands but Foakes has the quickest hands in the game and the ball stays in them. He does things that no one else can do. His hand speed is second to none. He’s got massive natural talent."

"But his work ethic, and attention to detail, are as good as I’ve come across both when I played and since I’ve been in this role [Director of Surrey cricket club]. He leaves no stone unturned. He works on specifics and the quality of the work is impressive,” Stewart further opined.

Stewart also praised Foakes the batter and added, "People should not underestimate his batting. He averages just shy of 40 in first-class cricket and when he’s played for England he’s been involved in some match-winning partnerships. You need to be not only physically fit and strong, but mentally fit and strong. The biggest thing is, if you miss a chance, how do you deal with it? He’s good at that."

Foakes was involved in a handy 112-run sixth-wicket stand with centurion Ollie Pope (196) in England's second innings of the Hyderabad Test, which the visitors won by 28 runs despite conceding a 190-run lead. The keeper-batter will look to continue his good work behind the stumps and come up with more substantial knocks with the willow in the remaining three Tests.&nbsp;

The five-match series is currently interestingly poised at 1-1.

Virat Kohli is on a break from international cricket and has not featured in India's ongoing five-match Test series versus England, at home. Kohli left the squad prior to the first Test, in Hyderabad, citing personal reasons and still not much is known regarding his absence and possible return for the final three Tests. Amidst all this, former South Africa captain and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star AB de Villiers was asked about Kohli's absence.

On his YouTube channel, De Villiers said that Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child.&nbsp; "All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is happy," revealed De Villiers on his YouTube channel.

He opined, "Let me just see what he said. I just want to at least give you a little bit of love. So I wrote to him 'Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?'. He said 'Just need to be with my family right now'. Then I said I am doing well."

"Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it's family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people's priority is family. You can't judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him, but he has made the right decision," ABD added.

<h2>'That information was wrong and not true at all'</h2>

However, the South African has now retracted from his statement on Kohli's absence. Talking to Dainik Bhaskar, De Villiers said, "Family comes first and then Cricket. I had made a big mistake on my YouTube channel. That information was wrong and not true at all. I think whatever's best for Virat's family comes first. No one knows what's happening there, all i can do is wish him well. Whatever the reason for his break, I hope he can comeback stronger, better and fresh from this."

Nothing is known regarding Kohli's absence. Fans might get a clear picture when BCCI selectors announce India's squad for the final three Tests versus England. As per reports, Kohli is expected to miss the third and fourth Test and, thus, one wishes that everything is fine at his end.&nbsp;

'Not True...': AB De Villiers makes U-turn from statement on Virat Kohli's absence

Jasprit Bumrah, on Wednesday (Feb 07), created history by becoming the first-ever Indian pacer to top the ICC Test bowling rankings. Bumrah reached the top after a brilliant fast-bowling display in the second Test between India and England, in Visakhapatnam, where the vice-captain ended with match figures of 9 for 91. With this, Bumrah also became the first-ever bowler in the history of cricket to become No. 1 in any of the three formats.&nbsp;

Bumrah topped the bowling rankings in Tests after a brilliant spell in the Visakhapatnam Test. The wily pacer's 6 for 45 in the first innings enabled Rohit Sharma-led India to take a vital 143-run lead after Yashasvi Jaiswal's 209 propelled the hosts to 396. England only managed 253 owing to Bumrah's lethal spell. In their second essay, India rode on Shubman Gill's 104 to set up a challenging 399-run target for the visitors. Ben Stokes &amp; Co. folded for 292 with Bumrah once again being among wickets (3 for 46). Thus, the 30-year-old pacer's Vizag heroics led him to gain the top spot in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers.&nbsp;

With Bumrah taking the top spot, R Ashwin -- who held the numero uno position since last March -- fell two places to take the third spot whereas South Africa's Kagiso Rabada is on the second spot despite not being part of his side's ongoing Test series versus New Zealand.&nbsp;

In 2024, Bumrah has already accounted for two five-wicket hauls. He bagged 6 for 61 in the Cape Town Test versus South Africa, which India won by seven wickets to draw the two-match series at 1-1. The Indian speedster, who has&nbsp;10 five-wicket hauls in 34 Tests, will be eager to continue with the same momentum in the remaining three Tests versus England.

Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan lauded India for being aggressive and having the self-belief to level the five-match Test series, versus England,&nbsp;in the second Test in Visakhapatnam. Rohit Sharma-led India, who entered the second Test without the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, were trailing 0-1 after the loss in Hyderabad. However, they rode on Jasprit Bumrah's nine-wicket match haul, Yashasvi Jaiswal's 209 and Shubman Gill's 104 to win by 106 runs on Day 4 on Monday (Feb 5).

<h2>'Batting is something that they will be talking about'</h2>

After the Test match, Zaheer lauded Rohit &amp; Co. for having the belief to level the series but also cautioned them going ahead, highlighting their areas of concern.&nbsp;Speaking to JioCinema, Zak said, "If you are one down in the series, you need that aggression, fight and belief to make sure that it is 1-1 after the end of the game. And I think Rohit was able to bring out those individual performances from the players. There are a few concerns when you look at the team - batting is something that they will be talking about because under these conditions, on this sort of a surface, we have seen India do better."

He further opined, "You look at England's second innings, there is only one half-century and they still managed to get close to 300. That is what collective effort can do. We have seen two brilliant innings - Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, but with the bat, there is a lot of work to be done."

Zak added, "On the bowling front as well, you had the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah. On this kind of surface, you feel that your spinners were at times under pressure, and because of that they needed the help from the batters. So, to control all these factors - this is where the captain needs to come into play, and Rohit has been superb when it comes to all these factors and situations."

Ind vs Eng: ‘There are a few concerns’ - Zaheer Khan shares advice for Team India despite Vizag Test win

India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant recently opened up on the time when he was being compared to legendary cricketer MS Dhoni. Just when Pant was in his early days in international cricket, he was constantly compared to Dhoni. While comparisons with Dhoni started as soon as Pant came to the highest level, he was massively trolled for any on-field mistake, especially when Dhoni was away from the game due to a sabbatical following the 2019 ODI World Cup. Many used to call for Dhoni's comeback, judging Pant's skills on any mistake.

Pant, who survived a horrific car crash in late 2022, spoke at length on his comparisons with Dhoni and said in an interview with Star Sports, “First of all, I didn't understand why questions were raised. I had just made it to the team, and people were talking about being a replacement. Why were people raising such questions at a youngster? Why are you comparing? There shouldn't be any comparison at all. Some have played five matches and the others have played 500."

"It's been such a long journey, so many ups and downs, so the comparison is not fair. I used to really feel very bad. I used to go back to my room and cry at 20-21 years of age. I missed a stumping in Mohali (during the India-Australia ODIs in early 2019), and the crowd started to chant ‘Dhoni Dhoni’,” he further added.

Some have played five matches and the others have played 500." "It's been such a long journey, so many ups and downs, so the comparison is not fair. I used to really feel very bad. I used to go back to my room and cry at 20-21 years of age. Under stress, I couldn't breathe. So much pressure and I didn't know what to do. I missed a stumping in Mohali (during the India-Australia ODIs in early 2019), and the crowd started to chant ‘Dhoni Dhoni’,” he further added. 'I used to go to my room and cry' - Rishabh Pant makes heartfelt confession on MS Dhoni comparisons

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has cautioned India against preparing a rank-turner for the second Test versus England, which gets underway on Friday (Feb 2) in Visakhapatnam. Chopra feels a rank-turner can backfire as many of the Indian batters are out of form. The likes of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer have been without big knocks for quite sometime and, hence, the former cricketer has advised India to not bank on spin-heavy track for a comeback in the series after losing the Hyderabad Test by 28 runs.&nbsp;

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra opined, "There is a problem with self-doubt. If we prepare a good pitch, they [England] play better than us. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer are in poor form. We do not have Rahul. Virat Kohli was already absent. Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder is also not there. Suddenly, you are stuck."

Chopra added, "I feel they should play on a good pitch. Don't get overexcited and go for a turning pitch. Your batters do not have form. Root can become Muralitharan: Aakash Chopra urges India to not prepare rank-turner for 2nd Test vs England

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has made a bold claim. Ahead of the second Test between India and England, which gets underway on Friday (Feb 2) in Visakhapatnam, Vaughan stated that India missed Virat Kohli's presence in the series opener, in Hyderabad, and would not have lost the Test under his captaincy. Rohit Sharma-led India lost the Hyderabad Test by 28 runs, failing to chase down 231, despite taking a whopping 190-run lead. Ben Stokes &amp; Co. rode on Ollie Pope's 196 in their second essay and debutant Tom Hartley's 7 for 62 in India's run-chase to win the game.

Vaughan opened up on the Hyderabad&nbsp;loss for India on the Club Prairie Fire show. He stated, "They miss Virat Kohli's captaincy massively in Test cricket. Under Virat's captaincy that week, India wouldn't have lost the game." He added, "Rohit is a legend and a great player. But I felt he just switched off completely."

It is to be noted that this was the first time that India lost a Test match at home after taking a 100-plus lead in the first innings. Talking about Kohli's captaincy, no opposition team scored more than 400 runs in their second innings in a Test in India during his tenure. When Kohli was the Indian Test captain, India only lost two out of 31 Tests at home. On the other hand,&nbsp;Rohit has already lost two out of the seven Tests as captain at home. In addition, India are winless at home in three&nbsp;Tests&nbsp;at a stretch for the first time in 12 Tests.

Thus, Rohit's Test captaincy is under the scanner at the moment. He is not going to have it easy in the ongoing five Tests versus England, who are all charged up after the Hyderabad win. Ahead of the second Test, India were dealt&nbsp;twin blows as Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul were ruled out with injury concerns. Moreover, Kohli will only return in the third Test.&nbsp;

Trailing 0-1, India have their task cut out in the upcoming Vizag Test.&nbsp;

On Monday (Jan 29), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and versatile batter KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second Test versus England, Visakhapatnam, due to injury concerns. Thus, the board named three players as replacements including spinner Sourabh Kumar, batter Sarfaraz Khan and spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar. Thus, India's revamped squad for the Vizag Test is quite an inexperienced one and former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh raised his concerns on the injury-hit unit.&nbsp;

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan raised concerns on India's inexperience and pointed out that frontline spinner R Ashwin is the second-highest run-getter in India's updated squad for the upcoming Test in Visakhapatnam.&nbsp;

“The team looks decent, but lacks experience. Yes, there is Rohit Sharma, but the next best run-scorer is Ashwin. In terms of batting, the line-up looks weak. And if they play on a turning track, which I feel they will because they have added Washington Sundar while having Kuldeep Yadav, Ashwin and Axar Patel,” Harbhajan said after the squad announcement.&nbsp;

Rohit Sharma-led India lost the first Test, of the five-match series, to England by 28 runs in Hyderabad despite taking a whopping 190-run lead. Ollie Pope (196) revived England's hopes in the second essay as they set a tricky 231-run target for the home side, who got bundled out for 202 to lose in the last over of the fourth and penultimate day. After their shocking loss, India have plenty to ponder upon before the second Test in Visakhapatnam. Ahead of the Vizag Test, former Indian spinner and coach Anil Kumble opined on India's potential XI and called for Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion.&nbsp;

With Ravindra Jadeja injured, as well as KL Rahul, there will be a couple of changes in India's XI for the second Test starting on Friday (Feb 2). Kumble feels Kuldeep can be drafted in especially if India feel the need to play only a solitary pacer.&nbsp;

Speaking on JioCinema, Kumble stated, "I am not really sure whether you need a fourth spinner. But if India feels that they need only one fast bowler then having Kuldeep will certainly help. He will have variations but England will come and do the same things they did in Hyderabad. The wicket could be a turning one and we are expecting the pace to be quicker than this."

BCCI Awards: Ex-coach Ravi Shastri to receive lifetime achievement award, Gill to bag men's cricketer honour

Legendary Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar feels talented young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal will establish himself in the Test team after the England series at home. Rohit Sharma-led India take on Ben Stokes' England in a five-match Test series at home, with the first Test to get underway on Jan 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Jaiswal came into the Test setup after India moved past seniors Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, etc. following the WTC 2023 final loss. The left-hander has so far amassed 316 runs in four Tests,&nbsp;with a fifty and hundred (171), at an average of 45.14. The England series will be his first-ever at home since his debut in the format, in mid-2023. Thus, Gavaskar feels confident that the 22-year-old will make a name for himself in the upcoming red-ball assignments.

Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, "Yashasvi Jaiswal will easily settle in home conditions. He’s also a left-hander. I think he’ll establish himself completely in the Indian Test team after this series."

Further, Gavaskar backed Shreyas Iyer to be among the runs versus England. Iyer so far has&nbsp;707 runs in 12 Test matches,&nbsp;at an average of 39.27. Gavaskar added, "In the World Cup, Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly in Indian pitches, so I’m hoping he’ll play similarly at No.5 in the Test series. He batted aggressively, was quite watchful at the start and then his stroke-making after reading the pitch was a delight to watch. I hope he’ll replicate that."

The last two Test series between India and England&nbsp;in India have resulted in 4-0 (2016-17) and 3-1 (2020-21) series triumphs for the home side. They&nbsp;have not lost a Test series on home soil since England beat them 2-1 in 2012/13.

Rohit Sharma became the joint-most successful T20I captain, along with Afghanistan's Asghar Afghan and Indian legend MS Dhoni, after India won the third and final match versus the Afghans on Wednesday (Jan 17) in Bengaluru. Rohit now has 42 wins as T20I captain after starring in India's thrilling double Super Over win, where he slammed&nbsp;a majestic 121*.

After the Afghanistan T20Is, former cricketer Rohan Gavaskar hailed Rohit. Rohan stated,&nbsp; while speaking on Cricbuzz, that "if Rohit&nbsp;has a higher winning percentage than MS and Virat, that tells you what a good captain he is".

He said, "This is the format where your captaincy skills are really tested."

Rohan further&nbsp;stated on Hitman's knock, "What I really liked about this innings is that, generally you say in a T20I game now - the template is to go bang bang bang from the word go. And that is the template that is set. But both Rohit and Rinku used their cricketing intelligence at 22-4 and said no. We can get runs later on but let's just give ourselves a little bit of time."

"If we lose a wicket or two here, we'll be 70 all out. We're 90 all out. So let's give ourselves a little bit of time, we have the ability to make up for it as the innings progresses. And they did, last five overs - 100. But this is a one-off. Normally, you want your teams to play in a different template. But to have that cricketing intelligence and the skillset to adapt and adjust and change your game, to what needs to be done, that is key,"&nbsp;Gavaskar junior added.

Talking about the final T20I, India opted to bat first and were tottering at 22-4 before an impressive 190-run fifth-wicket stand between Rohit (121*) and Rinku Singh (unbeaten 69) took India to 212/4. Ind vs Afg: 'If he has higher win percentage than Dhoni & Kohli, then...' - Gavaskar hails captain Rohit

India beat Afghanistan in a high-scoring thriller in the third and final T20I, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, on Wednesday (Jan 17). After an unassailable 2-0 lead, India made some changes in their playing XI and opted to bat first. The match went into the Super Over after both sides ended with 212 apiece, with Indian captain Rohit Sharma ending with a score of 121 not out. After the first Super Over also didn't separate both sides, it went into the second Super Over where India won to inflict a series whitewash.&nbsp;

In the first Super Over, both ended with 16 runs each whereas India set a 12-run target for Afghanistan in the second Super Over and defended it with Ravi Bishnoi striking twice in his first three deliveries. Many hailed Rohit for trusting leg spinner Bishnoi to bowl against the Afghan big-hitters. After the match, head coach Rahul Dravid lauded Rohit for making a 'great call' to bring in Bishnoi.&nbsp;

After the match, Dravid said, as quoted by Cricbuzz, "I think Rohit went with his gut, he went with a call... I think he felt that the spinner had a better chance to take those two wickets. It was one of games when 11 wasn't probably a huge score and where you know that if they batted those six balls, with the power they had, they probably would've got the 12 runs. You needed to take two wickets."

Dravid added, "I think it was a great call from the skipper to go with the spinner. He could've gone for two sixes but I thought Bishnoi was brilliant, because he bowled two superb balls. He pulled the length back... if the length had gone slightly fuller, the way they were batting, on this small ground it would've gone for a six. I think it was really good gut call from Rohit to go for the wickets and be more positive rather than probably a safer option which people would've expected."

Meanwhile, Bishnoi stated at the presentation ceremony, "The pressure was there, the heartbeat was racing, but I was confident about getting the job done. Great call from Rohit Sharma to go with Bishnoi in second Super Over: Rahul Dravid lauds Team India captain

India beat Afghanistan in a thrilling double Super Over encounter in the third and final T20I at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday (Jan 17). Opting to bat first, India rode on captain Rohit Sharma's 121 not out and Rinku Singh's 69* to post 212/4 after reeling at 22-4. In reply, Afghanistan ended at 212/6 after fifties from Gulbadin Naib (55*), openers Rahmatullah Gurbaz (50), captain Ibrahim Zadran (50) and Mohammed Nabi's 16-ball 34*. There were two successive Super Overs where India held their nerve to win and complete a series whitewash.

While Shivam Dube didn't get going and only managed 1 in the final T20I, he was in top form with two back-to-back fifties in the opening encounters. He returned with 60* and 63* in the earlier games before falling flat in the inconsequential tie. In addition, he chipped in with two wickets to end as the Player-of-the-Series award. After the series, head coach Rahul Dravid heaped praise on Dube, saying he has returned to the T20I setup as a much-improved performer. Dube made his international debut in late 2019 but soon lost his place.

Since his successful stint at the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp in IPL 2023, Dube has gained the limelight and returned to the T20I fold. Thus, Dravid feels he is now an improved player.

Dravid said&nbsp;at the post-match press conference, "I'm happy for him because he made a comeback after a long time. He is certainly come back an improved player. There's no doubt that he always had the talent. But really happy to see the way he performed in this series. I’m sure it'll give him a lot of confidence as well. You come back in, play a series and become the Player of the Series. I think it's great."

Dravid also praised Dube’s bowling performances in the Afghan series. He added, "He'll have the opportunity to show in the IPL again like he did last year. But really happy for him, he showed us that he's got some really good ability through those middle overs against spin and also with the ball. I think he bowled some good overs and he's learnt some lessons as well. I can be a very unforgiving place, bowling in a place like Bengaluru."

Dube will aim for another good run with CSK in the IPL 2024 edition to strengthen his case for the T20 World Cup, in West Indies and USA in June. Last year, he ended with&nbsp;418 runs at a strike rate of 158.33.

I think he bowled some good overs and he's learnt some lessons as well. I can be a very unforgiving place, bowling in a place like Bengaluru." Dube will aim for another good run with CSK in the IPL 2024 edition to strengthen his case for the T20 World Cup, in West Indies and USA in June. Last year, he ended with 418 runs at a strike rate of 158.33.

Shivam Dube has been in sublime form in India's ongoing three T20Is versus Afghanistan. He&nbsp;scored&nbsp;60* and 63* in the first two T20Is&nbsp;and was the Player-of-the-Match in the series opener. The left-hander is making a strong statement ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies and USA in June. Former Indian player Rohan Sunil Gavaskar feels it won't be easy to overlook Dube irrespective of Hardik Pandya's fitness. Dube is being looked upon as Hardik's backup, given his injury issues, but Gavaskar's son feels the former might get selected even if Hardik is fit.&nbsp;

<h2>‘What he’s doing is ensuring his place&nbsp;even if Hardik is fit’</h2>

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Rohan said, "We have been talking about him as, ‘Oh, listen, what if Hardik is unfit?’, I think what he is doing is making sure that even if Hardik is fit, he is on that plane in that World Cup squad. If you put in performances like this, it is very hard for anyone to drop you. It is going to be a really tough decision for the selectors if they decide to drop him. He is doing all that he can, which is giving the selectors a headache."

India pacer Mohammed Shami is hopeful of being part of India's T20 World Cup squad. Shami has not featured in India's T20I setup following the&nbsp;semi-final loss in the 2022 T20 WC in Australia. At present, he is out of action due to an ankle injury. Nonetheless, the veteran Indian speedster feels he can still be selected for the upcoming World Cup with a good run in IPL 2024. In the last edition of the IPL, Shami ended as the leading wicket-taker (28) while representing the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT).&nbsp;

Speaking on his T20 WC chances, Shami said while talking to News24, "There's still a lot of time. There's an IPL before that. Whoever is playing well should be picked for the T20 World Cup. If I'm performing well, I should be selected. Who will say no to the World Cup?"

‘Who will say no to T20 World Cup?’: Shami hopeful of being part of mega event with good run in IPL 2024

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra feels it will be incorrect to judge Sanju Samson based on only one game if the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team management include him in Men in Blue's third and final T20I versus Afghanistan, on Wednesday (Jan 17) in Bengaluru. Samson didn't feature in India's opening two T20Is versus the Afghans as Jitesh Sharma was preferred for the keeper-batter's role. Jitesh scored a vital 31 not out in the first game but fell for a duck in the next outing.&nbsp;

While few former cricketers have been impressed with Jitesh, one can certainly say that he has not cemented his place in the T20I setup heading into this year's T20 World Cup. The mega event will be held in West Indies and USA in June and the third T20I versus Afghanistan is India's last game prior to the World Cup. With the series already in their pocket, India might consider playing Samson in place of Jitesh or accommodate both. But, Chopra feels that even if Samson plays it will be incorrect to judge him on one game.&nbsp;

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said, "The question is whether you should keep Jitesh or Sanju at No. 6. If Jitesh had cemented his place totally, if there hadn't been a question mark at all in front of Jitesh's name, that he is definitely going to the World Cup, you could have thought about Sanju. However, Jitesh is not confirmed yet."

He added, "There is a flip side to that as well. Assuming you play Sanju, will you judge him with one match? It's incorrect. Whoever you try, give him three chances at least. This is what has happened with Sanju throughout his career."

Samson's last game for India came during the third and final ODI versus South Africa, in the African nation, last month. In the series decider, Samson struck his maiden ODI ton. However, he was not played a T20I since India's Ireland tour in mid-August 2023. It will be interesting to see if he gets a look-in during the final T20I versus Afghanistan. Surely, the BCCI selectors will keep an eye on his form during IPL 2024, where he is set to once again lead the Rajasthan Royals (RR).&nbsp;

Rohit has had a forgettable return to India's T20I setup. He came back into the T20I side in the ongoing Afghanistan series after playing his last game during the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals. In the two games versus the Afghans, he has returned with back-to-back ducks and will be hopeful of scoring big in the third and inconsequential T20I, to be held on Wednesday (Jan 17) in Bengaluru.&nbsp;

Despite his woeful run with the bat, captain Rohit will be pleased with how India&nbsp;performed as a unit versus Afghanistan. Talking about the Indore T20I, India opted to bowl first and rode on Axar Patel's 2 for 17, Ravi Bishnoi's 2 for 39 and Arshdeep Singh's 3 for 32 to dismiss the Afghans for 172 in 20 overs on a batting surface. In response, India rode on Yashasvi Jaiswal's 32-ball 64 and Shivam Dube's 32-ball 63* to complete the run-chase in 15.3 overs with six wickets in hand.&nbsp;

The Men in Blue will look to whitewash the series with another win in the third T20I in Bengaluru.&nbsp;

He came back into the T20I side in the ongoing Afghanistan series after playing his last game during the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals. In the two games versus the Afghans, he has returned with back-to-back ducks and will be hopeful of scoring big in the third and inconsequential T20I, to be held on Wednesday (Jan 17) in Bengaluru. Despite his woeful run with the bat, captain Rohit will be pleased with how India performed as a unit versus Afghanistan. Talking about the Indore T20I, India opted to bowl first and rode on Axar Patel's 2 for 17, Ravi Bishnoi's 2 for 39 and Arshdeep Singh's 3 for 32 to dismiss the Afghans for 172 in 20 overs on a batting surface. In response, India rode on Yashasvi Jaiswal's 32-ball 64 and Shivam Dube's 32-ball 63* to complete the run-chase in 15.3 overs with six wickets in hand. The Men in Blue will look to whitewash the series with another win in the third T20I in Bengaluru.

Ind vs Afg: Rohit Sharma registers joint second-most ducks in T20Is after flop show in Indore

Former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina feels Virat Kohli will be 'very important' to India's 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. The mega event will take place in West Indies and USA with the one-time winners India starting their run on June 5, versus Ireland. India are placed in Group&nbsp;A along with Pakistan, Ireland, USA, and Canada.&nbsp;

Raina's comments came after India beat Afghanistan by six wickets in the second and penultimate T20I at the Holkar Stadium, Indore on Sunday (Jan 14). Kohli marked his T20I return, after 14 months, and played a vital role in the Men in Blue's successful 173-run chase, slamming an impressive 16-ball 29 (striking at 181.25).

Speaking on Sports18, Raina said, "He will be very important (to India's World Cup plans). The biggest question now will be whether Virat Kohli would be willing to play at No. 3? Rohit Sharma wants him to play No. 3 for India, will he follow the template (in the IPL?). He is trying to improve his strike rate. But I feel it’s the job of the players around him. If I am the captain, I’d tell him to do the anchor’s role because he is the kind of player who can hit boundaries and sixes any time he wants."

“I think in this World Cup, we need Virat Kohli to stay in the middle for long. That is more important than his strike rate. We all saw he scored 765 runs in the ODI World Cup. We need him for those pitches (in West Indies and USA). The pitches are not going to be easy, it would be a little tricky with mystery spinners. You might have to find ways to get twos and quick singles if you are not able to get boundaries. One of the top 3 needs to play through 20 overs,” Raina added.

Kohli is the highest run-getter in T20 WC history -- with&nbsp;1,141 runs at a strike rate of&nbsp;131.30 including 15 fifties. He has been part of the T20 WC since the 2012 edition, where he was India's top run-getter. In the next two editions, he ended with the Player-of-the Tournament awards. In 2022, he once again ended as the highest run-getter (296 runs with four half-centuries).&nbsp;

While there have been some talks regarding Kohli's strike rate and the fact that he takes some time to get going, it looks highly likely that he will be part of India's T20 WC 2024 squad.&nbsp;

Ahead of the T20 WC, India will play their last T20I which will be on Wednesday (Jan 17) when they take on Afghanistan in the third and inconsequential tie in Bengaluru. Having won the series, India will aim for a clean sweep whereas Kohli will hope to score big in the final encounter.

Ind vs Afg: Men in Blue take unassailable lead in Indore, remain unbeaten in home T20I series since June 2019

Rohit Sharma-led India thrashed Afghanistan by six wickets in pursuit of 159 in the three-match T20I series opener on Thursday (Jan 11) in Mohali. The match marked the return of Rohit in the shortest format, having played his last T20I during the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final (where India lost to England in Adelaide). While Shivam Dube's all-round heroics sealed the game for India, captain Rohit didn't make a mark with the bat as he fell for 0 (2).

Rohit was involved in a mix-up with opening partner Shubman Gill (23) in the second ball of the run-chase. Hitman attacked&nbsp;Fazalhaq Farooqi on the second ball, by dancing down the track, and the ball raced towards mid-off. While Rohit ran and reached the non-striker's end, Gill remained at the same end and led to the skipper's departure. As a result, Rohit was livid at Gill and gave him a piece of his mind.

At the post-match presentation, Rohit reacted to the run-out and said, "These things happen. When it happens you feel frustrated, you want to be out there and score runs for the team. Everything will not go your way. We won the game, that's more important. I wanted Gill to carry on, unfortunately got out after playing a very good little innings."

After Rohit, Gill made a brisk 23 but couldn't capitalise on the start as India were reeling at 28-2. Dube (40-ball 60 not out) and Jitesh Sharma (31) piled on the runs for India to take them past the finish line in 17.3 overs.&nbsp;

On the team's overall outing, Hitman added, "Lot of positives. Shivam Dube, the way Jitesh batted, Tilak as well and then Rinku is in good form as well. We want to keep trying different things - try and bowl our bowlers in different situations of the game, like you saw today, Washi bowled the 19th over. We want to challenge ourselves in the areas we are slightly uncomfortable with and the bowlers are not used to that. We want to try and do that. Keeping all of those things in mind, we'll try and do whatever is possible but not at the cost of the game. We want to make sure that we come out on top and play the game well. All in all, today was a good day for us."

Opting to bowl first, India rode on two-fers from Mukesh Kumar and Axar Patel to restrict Afghanistan at 158 for 5 with Mohammad Nabi top-scoring with a fine 42. In reply, India ended the chase courtesy of Dube's blitz. The second and penultimate game takes place on Sunday (Jan 14) in Indore.

Virat Kohli went past Sachin Tendulkar's ODI tally (49) to become the batter with most tons in the shortest format during the 2023&nbsp;World Cup at home, in early November. At present, the 35-year-old has 80 international tons and is only 20 away from equalling Tendulkar's tally (100 -- most ever by any batter). In the three-match T20I series opener, Rohit-led Men in Blue chased down 159 in 17.3 overs courtesy of Shivam Dube's 40-ball 60*, laced with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Talking about Rohit's elite record, only&nbsp;England’s Danni Wyatt (111) has won more T20I matches than him. Rohit&nbsp;is now&nbsp;levelled with Australia’s Alyssa Healy and Elysse Perry (100) in terms of T20I victories. The Mohali encounter also marked Rohit's return to T20Is after 14 months, having played his last game during the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final in Adelaide (versus England). While he could not do anything with the bat, being dismissed for a two-ball duck, Rohit still managed to achieve&nbsp;a huge feat in men's cricket.&nbsp;

Ind vs Afg, Mohali T20I: Shivam Dube credits learnings from MS Dhoni after match-winning 60* in pursuit of 159

Former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina feels Sanju Samson needs to make the most of the opportunities in the three-match T20I series versus Afghanistan, which&nbsp;kicked off in India on Thursday (Jan 11) in Mohali. Raina feels Samson can be India's X-factor in the Men in Blue's 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, which will be held in June in West Indies and USA.

Speaking to&nbsp;Sports18, Raina said, "Sanju has made a wonderful hundred against South Africa recently. He is definitely captain material as his mind is ticking all the time while on the field. We have some very good options for the wicketkeeper-batter role -- KL Rahul, Jitesh Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Pant whenever he comes back after getting fit."

Raina further opined, "I prefer to have Sanju in the middle-order because he has a lot of shots. He plays those pick-up shots against pacers from the length. Hopefully, he performs well in the IPL too before the selectors sit down to select the team for the T20 World Cup."

"So, it is a good chance for Sanju against Afghanistan, and he can be our X-Factor in the World Cup,'' he added.

Samson has been a big name in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the Rajasthan Royals (RR) since his debut barring the two seasons he played for the now defunct Delhi Daredevils (DD). He has&nbsp;3,888 runs in&nbsp;152 T20Is at a strike rate&nbsp;of&nbsp;137.19. However, he has not had much success in T20Is for India, scoring&nbsp;just 374 runs in 24 matches at a paltry average of 19.68.&nbsp;

In the recently concluded&nbsp;South Africa tour, Samson impressed one and all with his maiden ODI hundred in the series finale. He will now look to churn out runs in&nbsp;the shortest format as well, during the Afghanistan series, and seal a T20 WC spot at the earliest.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
