It was the first time that Kohli scored three golden ducks in the same IPL season and with just two half centuries, he could manage to score just 341 runs in 16 encounters. Although his side were quite close to reaching the final, a lot of questions were raised on his form and impact on the side.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a comprehensive seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second qualifier of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to bowl out of the tournament on Friday (May 27). RCB failed to defend a total of 157 runs after an average performance from their bowlers as Jos Buttler slammed a destructive century to take RR into the final of the tournament.

RCB bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Buttler, who slammed an unbeaten 106 off just 60 balls laced with 10 fours and 6 sixes in the game. The RR opener looked unstoppable right from the start of the run-chase and continued his stellar run in the tournament as he notched up his fourth hundred this season.

With the seven-wicket defeat, RCB's campaign in the tournament came to an end. While several RCB players, including the like of Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli&nbsp;were trolled by a section of fans on social media, fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was also targeted for his poor show against Rajasthan Royals.

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar gave his verdict on RCB's campaign in IPL 2022 and called Du Plessis a better leader than Kohli, who stepped down from captaincy last season. Manjrekar also felt RCB should have gone on to win the title this year but believes the loss will help them fill the gaping holes in their squad.

"RCB have had a slightly better season. Some good things have happened. Faf du Plessis has looked like a better leader than Virat Kohli. But more is expected of them.&nbsp;Having come this far, they should have won. They’ll know exactly what has gone wrong and what has prevented them from going on to win gold instead of bronze," Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo.

“He is a legendary player who is going through a phase that is not too easy. Two or three years ago you just turned on the telly or arrived at the ground and knew that Virat was going to score a hundred. Patel said he was surprised to see RCB retain Maxwell as the Australian all-rounder has rarely managed to perform consistently for two consecutive seasons in the IPL. Patel believes both Siraj and Maxwell, who had a season to forget in IPL 2022, will fetch lesser money than what they are earning at RCB if they were released by the franchise before next season.

Kohli was expected to deliver with the bat consistently this season after stepping down as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

However, his struggles with the bat continued this season as Kohli found it difficult to get going even after being promoted to open the batting. Amid his rough patch with the willow, many former cricketers and experts, including former India head coach Ravi Shastri has suggested Kohli should take a break to revitalise and bounce back strongly.

Kohli recently opened up on the prospects of taking a break from the game and hinted that he is open to the idea but will have to first speak to India head coach Rahul Dravid and the team management to decide the way going forward. On Shastri's suggestion, Kohli said the former India head coach spoke about the break as he has closely seen Kohli play consistently for a number of years without taking adequate rest.

“There’s one person precisely who has mentioned it which is Ravi bhai and that’s because he has seen from close quarters over the last six-seven years the reality of the situation that I have been in. Kohli stressed the importance of rejuvenating himself with a break and said it will be a healthy decision but the timing of it will be important for both him and the Indian cricket team.

“So to take a break and when to take a break is obviously something that I need to take a call on, but it is only a healthy decision for anyone to take some time off and just rejuvenate yourself mentally and physically," said the superstar batter.
