Mumbai Indians (MI) star Suryakumar Yadav recently recalled how skipper Rohit Sharma kept pushing him and motivating him to keep going after his goals when he was not being considered for selection in the Indian team despite his stellar performances in the domestic circuit.

Suryakumar was notching up runs consistently in domestic cricket and in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a number of years. However, he earned the much-deserved recognition only after being roped in by Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2018. Recalling the difficult phase before earning his maiden India call up last year, Suryakumar revealed how Rohit always had his back and kept telling him to keep knocking at the selectors' door. The Mumbai Indians skipper also advised the star batter to break the door with performances if it doesn't open.

"Rohit Sharma was always behind me - pushing me to work hard, he use to tell 'If you are scoring, score again in next game and then one after that also' - keep knocking that door of selection if it doesn't open, break it down," Suryakumar said on Gaurav Kapur's show Breakfast with Champions.

Being asked to bat first, Rohit &amp; Co. rode on Suryakumar Yadav's 36-ball 52, Tilak Verma's 38* and Kieron Pollard's 5-ball unbeaten 22 to post a competitive 161-4 in 20 overs. After a slow and sluggish start, they recovered in style but all efforts went in vain with Pat Cummins' stunning fireworks and Venkatesh Iyer's 50 not out in KKR's run-chase.

While Iyer held one end with a calculative 50*, Cummins smashed the MI bowlers -- after joining the run-chase at 103 for 5 -- to close the match in the 16th over; slamming the joint-fastest IPL fifty (in 14 balls). He, thus, returned with a blazing 15-ball 56* to keep MI winless.

Thus, head coach Mahela Jayawardene has broken his silence on MI's indifferent start to the ongoing season.&nbsp;

“I think we knew that they have a strategy where they bowl their spinners at the backend as well. So we needed to make sure that we had guys to take them on. Suryakumar Yadav was one of them. But initially it was a tough wicket. There was steep bounce, and there was little bit in it. We felt that we got stuck a little bit, and we were behind, and needed a par course," Jayawardene said at the post-match press conference.

"That was the plan in the 13th over, and I thought with the couple of big overs at the end, we got that par score, and we were in the game for pretty much all the way. In the past few games we’ve not ruthless enough to close games off," he added.

Reflecting on MI's journey ahead after a tough start, Jayawardene further opined, "It’s always tough when you have a start like this, but we need to look at the positives. We’ve been playing some really good cricket, but we’re not closing games off. All three games we were in it, but we’re not able to finish it off. These are concerns, especially with the ball that we’re not executing at the back-end under pressure.. some of the execution has been poor. We need to brush up on that."

“It’s a long tournament, three games, yeah it is tough but we need to make sure that we get a win and get into those habits. Anything can happen with 10 teams. There are a lot of teams that’s gonna beat each other so we have to make sure we’re in it midway through the season," he concluded.

As per PTI, Ramiz is planning to the senior BCCI officials on the sidelines of the ICC event and&nbsp;extend his proposal of a four-nation tournament along with discussing matters on the Asia Cup.

In a recent interview, Ramiz had mentioned that since the BCCI is being led by a cricketer, he has his hopes&nbsp;pinned&nbsp;on not leaving&nbsp;fans deprived&nbsp;of&nbsp;India-Pakistan bilateral series.

"India-Pakistan (2022 T20 World Cup) tickets were sold in one day, we don't have a political perspective on things and if a fellow cricketer is leading the BCCI, we should be approachable to each other since we don't know politics," said Ramiz.

"I'll talk to Ganguly regarding a four-nation tournament. The future of cricket is in triangular and four-nation competitions. Twenty20 leagues are taking away eyeballs from bilateral cricket, of which the novelty factor is decreasing," he further added.&nbsp;

Rathour also feels that Pant has it in him to succeed MS Dhoni and become the next finisher for Team India. Following Dhoni's international retirement, the role of a finisher has been fulfilled by the likes of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, however, Rathour feels Pant is suited to make an impact lower down the order (despite being experimented to bat at No. 4).

"He will be a finisher at number five or six, he knows that. Nobody is pushing him to get a hundred in ODIs. He will always be an impact player and if he is consistently getting 40-50 and winning it for the team, then that is fine," Rathour added.

Pant is currently involved with the Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2022 edition. Under him, DC have won and lost a game each after their opening two encounters in the 15th season.

The young keeper-batter revealed that&nbsp;he didn't want to talk to anybody and only spoke a little to&nbsp;Rohit Sharma&nbsp;and MS Dhoni. He stated, "It was a hard time and I shut out everyone. It was difficult for me to go to many people. I only believed in myself; I wanted to prove myself to the world. I did not want to think negative thoughts. I was waiting for my chance. I was talking to Rohit bhai and Mahi ]Dhoni] bhai a little bit. But mostly I kept believing in myself."

"It was obviously very challenging. That was a low phase in my life. You feel good when you come from hard times and play like that (50 off 101 against England). But, at the same time, I do not think of either [fifties] too much. I just play on the merit of the ball. [However,] I did find that I could control my instincts better," Pant added.
