The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will continue to get the lion's share from the earnings of the International Cricket Council over the next three years, the latest reports say. BCCI is likely to get around Rs 1892 crore (US$231 million) each year while our neighbours, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will receive Rs 282 crore (US$34.51 million). As per media reports, the BCCI will get 38.5% of the revenue earned by the ICC. At present, with a reported net worth of $2.25 billion in 2022, the BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world.

<h2>ICC's financial model for 2024-27</h2>

ICC is expected to get around Rs 4916 thousand crore (600 million US dollars) and BCCI will have the largest share. According to the new model, BCCI’s total revenue is about 38.4% and is at least six times more than the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which receives $41 million at 6.89 per cent, and Cricket Australia getting 6.25 per cent at $37.5 million. They are in the second and third position respectively.

The ICC has also set limits on foreign cricketers for teams in various leagues so that in the new competitions, each team will be able to field only four foreign players. This is mainly for T20 leagues starting around every corner which is posing a threat to the international format of the game.

<h2>Remaining eight full members</h2>

The earnings of the remaining eight full members (Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, West Indies, and Ireland) is less than five per cent. The BCCI has been consistently asserting that it deserves a higher share of the ICC's revenue due to India's higher contribution. The ICC is waiting for the response from the board of all the countries on the new financial model that will only be approved at the ICC annual meeting next month.

However, in the media release by the ICC, it has not been mentioned how much revenue BCCI will get from this model. But the Indian board is expected to earn $230 million annually out of $600 million in the next four years.

BCCI to get lion's share in ICC's earnings for 2024-27: Reports

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level executive committee to decide on the national team’s participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The high-level committee is headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto and will soon submit a report to the PM on whether the situation is safe for the national team to participate in the ODI World Cup or not.

<h2>Who is part of the committee?</h2>

As things stand, the committee headed by Bilawal Bhutto consists of Sports Minister Ahsan Mazari, Maryam Aurangzeb, Asad Mahmood, Amin ul Haq, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and former diplomat Tariq Fatmi. They will review the situation in the coming days as a high-level security delegation will travel to India to inspect the venues and other key elements during the World Cup. Once the report is finalised, it will be submitted to the PM, who also acts as the patron-in-chief of the PCB.

On the flip side, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have finalised the programme for the World Cup after the schedule was made public on Tuesday, June 27. None of Pakistan’s demands were met when the schedule was released as the board demanded not to play Afghanistan in Chennai and Australia in Bangalore.

As things stand, Pakistan is yet to finalise its participation in the tournament as they have conveyed that no stand will be taken by the board until the government gives its clearance.

<h2>PCB’s turmoil</h2>

On the other hand, the PCB has been going through the turmoil of events with the elections to get the next chairman of the board yet again postponed indefinitely. Currently, a new management committee has been formed by the order of the PM and has been headed by Zaka Ashraf, the likely next chairman of the PCB.

Ashraf will travel to Durban in the coming hours to participate in an ICC board meeting, where he is likely to open on Pakistan’s stand on whether to participate in the ODI World Cup or not.

According to the current schedule, the ODI World Cup will start on October 5 with the opening clash between England and New Zealand. Pakistan will open their campaign against one of the qualifier teams on October 6 with them playing India on Sunday, October 15.

ODI World Cup 2023: Pakistan PM forms high-level committee as national team's participation hangs in limbo

Zaka Ashraf is been appointed as the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) new management committee which consists of 10 members. Ashraf had&nbsp;been a favourite to become the next PCB chairman but suffered a setback last month after the elections were postponed indefinitely with several petitions pending against the process. The committee will be headed by the former PCB chairman that also consists of former Pakistan batter Zaheer Abbas and a Supreme Court judge.

<h2>Ashraf to take charge of&nbsp;new management committee</h2>

The prime minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif approved the committee and it will function for the next four months. The decision leaves PCB in a state of limbo with no permanent chairman during the ODI World Cup and the Asia Cup, if no elections take place in the coming days. The elections were originally supposed to take place on June 27, but petitions were filed by the likes of Najam Sethi and other former members of the PCB in several High Courts of the nation which prompted the indefinite postponement of the process.

"Given the litigations, and in the wake of imminent International Cricket events &amp; major decisions at International Council of Cricket, and to ensure seamless and efficient management at the helm of PCB, proposes the constitution of a new Management Committee for a period of four months as a measure to remove the difficulties arising out of the current scenario... Ministry is of the considered view that Rana may be removed from his position, and Mahmood Iqbal Khakwani, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, may be appointed as the new Commissioner of PCB,” the ministry for inter-provincial coordination (IPC) wrote to the Pakistan prime minister.

<h2>What is the PCB Board Committee?</h2>

The PCB board committee decides the fate of the new Chairman as all ten members vote in the election process. The board consists of four regional representatives, four representatives from services, and two members nominated by the prime minister. Historically, the PM-appointed candidate has been appointed as the PCB chairman. Ashraf on that basis was the favourite to be the next man in charge of the PCB having been appointed by Shehbaz Sharif.

The decision around the same is expected following the appointment of the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman. As per the official source, the delegation will represent the PCB and inspect the venues where Pakistan will play its matches, alongside checking the security arrangements made for the players and fans. "The security delegation will go with representation from the PCB to inspect the venues where Pakistan will play and also the security and other arrangements made for them in the World Cup," the official source said, as quoted by Times of India. CWC 2023: Pakistan to send security delegation to India to inspect venues prior to granting approval

On Tuesday (June 27), the International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full schedule of the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition, to be held in India in October-November. After the schedule was made official, the Pakisan Cricket Board (PCB) said that it requires clearance from the government to take part in the mega event in India. Now, the ICC has responded to PCB's statement and stated that they are confident of the 1992 winner's participation in the showpiece event in the subcontinent.

<h2>'We are confident Pakistan will be in India for CWC'23'</h2>

"Pakistan have signed a participation agreement to compete and we expect them to be there and have had no indications to the contrary," an ICC statement said on the matter. "All members have to abide by the rules and the laws of their country and we respect that. But we're confident Pakistan will be in India for the Men's Cricket World Cup," added the statement.

It is to be noted that the PCB&nbsp;statement came following the schedule announcement. "The PCB requires the Government of Pakistan's clearance for any tour to India, including the match venues. We are liaising with our government for guidance, and as soon as we hear something from them, we will update the Event Authority (ICC). This position is consistent with what we had told the ICC a couple of weeks ago when they shared with us the draft schedule and sought our feedback," said the PCB statement.

The ODI World Cup schedule came out only 100 days before the tournament's commencement. As per reports, one of the main reasons for the delay was PCB's requests for venue changes. The Pakistani board wanted venues to be shifted for their games versus Afghansitan (Chennai) and Australia (Bengaluru). They wanted the venues to be swapped for the two games whereas they also raised concerns on playing India in Ahmedabad on October 15.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, none of PCB's reported requests were accepted as ICC and BCCI released the schedule earlier this week. Pakistan will open their campaign versus Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad on October 06 and meet arch-rivals India on October 15.&nbsp;

CWC'23: 'They have signed...' - ICC on Pakistan's participation in mega event in India

The ICC released the full schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (June 27). The schedule was revealed only 100 days prior to the tournament opener, which is set to take place on October 05. As per reports, a reason for the delay was due to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as it raised concerns over playing at certain venues. For instance, it was reported that the Pakistani board wanted the venues for their games versus Afghanistan (in Chennai) and Australia (in Bengaluru) to be swapped and also objected to playing against India in Ahmedabad&nbsp;on October 15.

Nonetheless, the final schedule saw none of PCB's reported requests being taken into account. After the schedule was out, PCB made it clear that they are yet to get clearance from their government to play the ODI World Cup in India and they will inform the ICC once they get the nod. In this regard, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali reacted to all the developments and slammed the board for asking for venue changes. In addition, he feels that Pakistan should stick to the venues offered -- as it can work to their advantage -- and are confident of the Men in Green's participation in the mega event.

<h2>'ICC's schedule for the World Cup is a huge advantage for Pakistan'</h2>

"I am hearing on news channels and YouTube that Pakistan may not be willing to play their matches in Ahmedabad and one more venue. Why not? ICC's schedule for the World Cup is a huge advantage for Pakistan. If 1,25,000 come to attend the match in Ahmedabad, the pressure is on India, and not Pakistan. If India was to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan, then the pressure would have been on Pakistan.

"I don't know why people can't understand this simple thing. And Afghanistan is a weak team - yes, they have good spinners - but wherever the schedule has been finalised, just play. This is nonsense. I keep hearing that Pakistan may not get the permission. Of course, they will. Boss, it's not some local tournament. It's a bloody World Cup," Basit said on his Youtube channel.&nbsp;

"Now the second part… the advantage which Pakistan has. Normally, each team will be playing two warm-up matches, but in Pakistan's case, they will technically be playing 4 – two practice games and one each against the two qualifying teams – before they face India in Ahmedabad. If Pakistan go into the India tie on the back of a formidable show against the four teams previously, it will be a huge boost for them and the players.

"Imagine Babar Azam scoring a century or Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah picking a five-wicket haul. Just imagine what it will do to their confidence against India. So it is my heartfelt request. Please play your matches as per the schedule."

Pakistan's schedule for ODI World Cup

September 29 - vs New Zealand in Hyderabad
October 03 - vs Australia in Hyderabad
October 6 - vs Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad
October 12 - vs Qualifier 2 in Hyderabad
October 15 - vs India in Ahmedabad
October 20 - vs Australia in Bengaluru
October 23 - vs Afghanistan in Chennai
October 27 - vs South Africa in Chennai
October 31 - vs Bangladesh in Kolkata
November 4 - vs New Zealand Bengaluru (Day match)
November 12 - vs England in Kolkata

Pakistan does have an easy schedule for the marquee event. They will play their two warm-up games in Hyderabad. In addition, their first two matches in the main draw are at the same venue before the mega face-off versus India on October 15&nbsp;in Ahmedabad. Overall, Babar Azam &amp; Co. will play their nine league matches across five venues – Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata. On the contrary, India will play their nine league fixtures in as many different venues -- most by any side -- and, thus, will have to manage the workload of their players wisely.

Ex-Pakistan player slams PCB's ODI WC requests, confident of Men in Green's participation

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full schedule of the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will be held in October-November in India. The schedule came out only 100 days before the commencement of the showpiece event. As per reports, the delay was mainly because of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asking the ICC and Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) to change the venues for two of their games. PCB wanted the venues for the games versus Afghanistan (Chennai) and Australia (Bengaluru) to be swapped.

In addition, PCB wanted Ahmedabad to be removed from hosting their marquee face-off versus India. Nonetheless, the draft schedule was approved with no tweaking.&nbsp;Now, former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has lashed out at PCB for their unusual ODI WC request.&nbsp;

<h2>'You shouldn't say such things and instead, pull down the level of your cricket'</h2>

“Conditions, venues shouldn't be a concern for teams anymore. These things shouldn't happen in international cricket. Today, India beat Australia, South Africa, New Zealand on their own turf. We shouldn't be making excuses like why we are playing against Afghanistan in Chennai, or India in Ahmedabad. Your focus should be on cricket only,” Akmal said during an interview with&nbsp;paktv.tv.

'Stop making low-standard...': Former Pakistan wicketkeeper lashes out at PCB for ODI WC requests

ICC ODI World Cup 2023’s full schedule has not even been officially announced but already much has been said and written about the tournament. India will be hosting the mega event in October. Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board requested the International Cricket Council and the Board of Control for Cricket India to change the venue of their games. Earlier, former PCB chairman Ramiz Raza had also expressed his wish for Pakistan not to travel to India for the ODI World Cup 2023. This statement was made after the BCCI made it clear that the Indian team will not travel to the neighbouring country for the next edition of the Asia Cup. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his views on PCB’s venue-changing request.

<h2>Ravichandran Ashwin: ICC unlikely to pay heed to the request</h2>

Ravichandran Ashwin broke his silence on the PCB’s request to change the venue and said that the International Cricket Council would not agree to Pakistan’s request. The veteran Indian spinner said that given the nature of the reason, ICC is unlikely to pay heed to the request. He also added that only if Pakistan cited security reasons, then maybe they had a chance of getting the venue swapped.

For the unversed, something similar had happened during the 2016 T20 World. The India vs Pakistan encounter was shifted from Dharamshala to Kolkata. Ashwin further said that PCB has mentioned in their request letter that conditions will favour Afghanistan in Chennai. Hence, now the changing of venue also indicates that it plays into an advantage for Pakistan.

"Pakistan, in their request letter itself, have mentioned that conditions will favor Afghanistan in Chennai. So, by changing venues, it plays into an advantage for Pakistan. So, I highly doubt that ICC will heed to this request. Maybe if Pakistan have given some valid security reasons, then it might be shifted,” Ashwin said.

The official schedule for the World Cup mega event is not&nbsp;out yet. The International Cricket Council is expected to make the official announcement on June 27. This means that the fixture schedule will be out exactly 100 days before the start of the tournament.

If reports are to be believed then, Pakistan will kickstart their campaign against Australia. The match may be played at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 20, followed by Pakistan vs Afghanistan at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, three days later. PCB has requested a venue swap for these two matches.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) elections will be held on Wednesday, June 28&nbsp;as the upper cricket body in the nation looks&nbsp;likely to have a new head. Zaka Ashraf, appointed to the 10-member board committee by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is likely to succeed interim boss Najam Sethi. If things go according to the plans, Ashraf will regain control of the PCB with the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup soon approaching.

<h2>Ashraf to succeed Sethi?</h2>

"The election of the PCB Chair will be held in a fair and transparent manner whilst adopting due process and ensuring completion of all legal formalities… on Tuesday, 27 June, at the PCB headquarters in Lahore. The election schedule will be issued after receiving nominations from the departments/service organisations,” a statement quoted by Espncricinfo read.

The board committee will have 10 members - four regional representatives, four representatives of services organisations, and the two members nominated by the patron/prime minister. The general trend in Pakistan has&nbsp;the majority of times seen PM-appointed members get elected as the chairman of the PCB. In 2021, Pakistan's then-PM Imran Khan nominated Ramiz Raja for the top post who was elected unanimously. The term of the new boss will be for three years as Ashraf is likely to take charge of the PCB during a period when Pakistan hosts the Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy in 2025.

Ashraf, 70, along with Supreme Court lawyer Mustafa Ramday, was nominated by the PM. The PCB interim head Najam Sethi was tasked to scrap the 2019 constitution of the PCB and revive the 2014 constitution. The interim term of the Sethi-led management came to an end on Tuesday, June 20.

<h2>Ashraf to fill big shoes</h2>

As expected, if Ashraf does come to power, he will take charge of the PCB for the first time since 2014 when he was ousted by then-PM Nawaz Sharif. Sethi was handed the reins in 2014 in favour of Ashraf. The tables have now turned which will see Ashraf regain control of the board.

Ashraf has already been in the headlines after he was reported to have rejected the hybrid model of the Asia Cup, while also threatening Pakistan’s involvement in the ODI World Cup. He has some tough challenges at hand, including&nbsp;the ODI World Cup model and the Champion Trophy 2025, where India is again unlikely to travel to Pakistan.&nbsp;

PCB elections to be held on June 28 as Zaka Ashraf looks set to succeed Najam Sethi

The next likely Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf has shown his discontent with the model of the upcoming Asia Cup which is set to take place in September. The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) last week announced its decision to host the Asia Cup in a hybrid model which will see Pakistan host four matches while Sri Lanka will host nine matches as unofficial hosts. According to Ashraf, it is an injustice to Pakistan as the majority of the tournament will be played away from home despite it being the official host of the tournament.

<h2>Injustice towards Pakistan?</h2>

"I don't agree with it. According to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the tournament should be held entirely in Pakistan. Major matches are played elsewhere, and only minor teams like Nepal play in Pakistan. Injustice has been done to Pakistan,” Ashraf said in a media conference on Wednesday, June 21 evening as quoted by Cricbuzz.&nbsp;

Ashraf is set to take the reigns as the chairman of the PCB in the comings after he was appointed to the board of governors by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The elections for the PCB chairman post will take place in the coming days where Ashraf is expected to take the helm with former chairman Najam Sethi out of the race. Sethi, who was in the interim charge had retaliated against the model proposed by ACC which sees India play their Asia Cup matches away from Pakistan.

<h2>Ashraf to push for changes in Asia Cup</h2>

It is expected Ashraf will try to push for a change in the plan of the Asia Cup to schedule more matches in&nbsp;Pakistan. However, given the clear verdict of the ACC in the past, any changes to the plans are highly unlikely as the preparations are now in the final stage. ACC, headed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, is now keen on deciding the venues for the tournament with India playing all their matches including against Pakistan in Sri Lanka.

"I will try to do what is in the best interest of Pakistan within the shortest possible time. There are many pending issues, and I am not delving deep into the matter since I haven't officially taken over," Ashraf added.

It is expected that the Asia Cup will start on August 31 and the final will likely take place on September 17. Both India and Pakistan are in the same group along with Nepal, while Bangladesh, unofficial hosts Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are placed in another group.

Zaka Ashraf shows discontent for ACC's hybrid model for Asia Cup, says 'injustice has been done to Pakistan'

Pakistan Cricket team’s participation in the ODI World Cup could be in limbo after the latest comment made by their board President Najam Sethi on Friday, June 16. Sethi, President of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has opened up on his country’s stand regarding involvement in the mega event and said that any participation in the World Cup is subject to the&nbsp;government's approval. Pakistan are due to travel to India for the ODI World Cup despite India’s refusal to play in the Asia Cup in their backyard, which has now created a scene of limbo for the 1992 World Cup champions.

<h2>Pakistan’s participation in limbo?</h2>

"We have written to the ICC that we can't give approval or disapproval to this (World Cup schedule)," Sethi was quoted as saying by Espncricinfo.

"It's our government who has to decide, just like when it comes to India, it's their government that decides when they go to play. There is no point asking us if we will play in Ahmedabad. When the time comes, first it will be decided whether we are going or not, then the government decides where we will go. Our decision will rest on these two important conditions."

<h2>Asia Cup format impact?</h2>

As things stand, Pakistan are already on the back foot after they lost the rights to host the majority of the Asia Cup matches in coming August and September. The PCB is considered to be disappointed by the now official hybrid model of the Asia Cup where official hosts Pakistan is to host four matches while unofficial hosts Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine matches, including the final if India enter the showpiece.

While India remains clear on their stand on not travelling to Pakistan, Sethi previously stated that Pakistan might not travel to India and would propose a hybrid model for the World Cup. However, the approach has been turned down by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Since India has confirmed it will not travel to Pakistan, a similar stand was expected to be taken by the PCB which has put Pakistan’s involvement in jeopardy for the ODI World Cup. The PCB also has opposed the idea of staging the India vs Pakistan league contest in Ahmedabad and wants it to be staged in another location.

Pakistan's involvement in ODI World Cup in LIMBO after Najam Sethi's latest comment

After long rounds of discussion, the impasse over hosting the Asia Cup 2023 seems to getting over with Pakistan and Sri Lanka looking set to host the Asia Cup in September later this year.

As per the development reported by ESPNCricinfo, the Asian Cricket Council is ready to approve the hybrid model suggested by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi. As per the model, all India games will be played in Sri Lanka including against Pakistan.

<a>The tournament, to be played in 50-over format as a lead up to ICC ODI World Cup, will have 13 matches including the final, which will also be played in Sri Lanka, shall India make it to the last match.</a>

<h2>India-Pakistan at an impasse</h2>

The tournament hit the impasse after India decided not to travel to Pakistan due to security reasons and demanded that the tournament be shifted to a neutral venue. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also had the support of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket board as well.

<h2>Pakistan react to India deciding not to travel</h2>

The PCB was miffed by India's stance and threatened to boycott from the ICC ODI WC scheduled to be held in India later this year. The board, however, offered UAE as a venue to which Bangladesh opposed, citing harsh weather conditions in the west Asian country in the month of September.&nbsp;

The Sri Lanka cricket board then made itself available for hosting the tournament, further disappointing Pakistan who reportedly backed out from traveling to the island country for a ODI series, scheduled in July.

<h2>Final decision</h2>

The PCB, being the official hosts, were keen to hold at least some part of the tournament in Pakistan and all that seems a possibility now. The matches are reported to be held in Lahore for the part of tournament which will be played in the host country.

Asia Cup 2023 set to be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka - Report

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might have to deal with another blow, as after reports of them losing the hosting rights of Asia Cup 2023, they probably will lose the chance of hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy too, for which there will be monetary compensation.

As per the latest reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is mulling over changing venues for the upcoming events – the 2024 T20 World Cup (in West Indies and the USA) and the 2025 Champions Trophy (in Pakistan). News18 CricketNext reported earlier that ICC could switch the 2024 T20 WC from West Indies and USA to Ireland and Scotland, while the 2025 Champions Trophy could be moved to West Indies and the USA from Pakistan.

Sources close to the information revealed that though the talks are in their initial stages now, the chances of this happening are higher considering the lack of infrastructure in the USA for hosting the multi-team event.&nbsp;

“The current infrastructure situation in the USA is not very encouraging. Even if they successfully host the upcoming Major League Cricket, hosting an event like the T20 World Cup is a different ball game altogether. Where will you host the matches when the venues aren’t ready? Also, a long tournament in the far west could be a loss-making proposition for the broadcasters in the sub-continent, where the returns are highest,” sources close to the information said, as quoted by Cricket Addictor.

Besides, the broadcasters for the next ICC media rights are also believed to agree to this proposal, and if everything falls in place, the changes might be implemented.

<h2>What is the reason&nbsp;behind changing venues?</h2>

So, why this change is happening in the first place? Because of the scheduling constraint in the UK - the matches can only be played from May to June – which is the same window when the next year’s T20 World Cup is scheduled in the Caribbean and the USA. As a result, the ICC has looked into Scotland and Ireland as alternative options.

Now if that happens, the ICC can switch the venue of the 2025 Champions Trophy from Pakistan to West Indies and the USA – giving the USA more time to prepare the required infrastructure for the tournament. Also, since the Champions Trophy will host fewer matches in comparison to T20 World Cup, hosting 2025 CT in WI and the USA looks like a logistically viable option.

However, the report also suggested that none of the countries mentioned to host these events has signed a "hosting agreement"&nbsp;yet, as ICC will try to convince Pakistan for the swap by potentially compensating them monetarily for the change.

After Asia Cup, 2025 Champions Trophy could also be moved out of Pakistan: Reports

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to playa limited-series in Sri Lanka after the latter's offer to host Asia Cup ODI tournament in September late this year.

The PCB is at loggerheads with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after India's refusal to play in the neighboring country due to security issues. India has also rejected the hybrid model plan put forth by PCB chief Najam Sethi. Sri Lanka, a few day back, made itself available to host the tournament and miffed with the gesture, the PCB has now called off an ODI series, claimed a report by news agency PTI.

"It is clear indication that the PC is not happy with the Sri Lankan board stepping in to offer to host the Asia Cup in September when it is Pakistan's turn to host the regional event at home," told a source to the PTI.

The report further claimed that PCB chief Najam Sethi is also not pleased with the Bangladesh and Afghanistan cricket boards as well after both of them sided with the BCCI on the matter.

"Sethi expected Sri Lanka with whom Pakistan has long friendly relations, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to convince the Indian cricket board and other Asian Cricket Council (ACC) board members to go with the proposal put by Sethi and at least play three to four games in Pakistan of the Asia Cup before moving the tournament elsewhere. He is disappointed at the way things gave panned out in recent days specially when some of these board heads went to India for the Indian Premier League (IPL) final and met with the BCCI secretary Jay Shah," added the source further.

Notably, after India's refusal to play in Pakistan and the hybrid model for the upcoming Asia Cup, Pakistan too has threatened to pull out of the ICC ODI World Cup which is scheduled to held in India after the regional series.

Pakistan pull out of ODI series in Sri Lanka after SLC offers to host Asia Cup - Report

With each passing day, a new stipulation or suggested change gets added to the Asia Cup 2023 saga that has made enough headlines for reasons unrelated to cricket. Following the IPL 2023 Final, where all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) members, barring PCB representatives, were present, Jay Shah – BCCI secretary and ACC chief, clarified his stance on PCB’s hybrid model, saying the Asia Cup will happen in Sri Lanka only, and that&nbsp;the PCB has to abide by it, else they can pull out.

Although no formal announcement has been made, as per a report in the Telegraph India, sources in the knowhow have&nbsp;revealed that PCB chief Najam Sethi will be informed about the same in the next ACC meeting.

It must be noted Pakistan was the original host for this year’s Asia Cup, and upon receiving reservations from the BCCI over their team going&nbsp;to Pakistan and playing a multi-team event series there, the PCB proposed a hybrid model - which was also denied by the Indian board.

That model stated four or five matches will be played in Pakistan, while India will play its games in the UAE. The BCCI played down this idea citing unfavourable weather conditions in the UAE during September.

However, as reported earlier, Jay Shah had invited top bosses from ACB, BCB and SLC for the IPL 2023 Final – and after informal discussions around the same, all agreed to play the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, with the island nation also agreeing to host the tournament on short notice.

Meanwhile, PCB, on several occasions, has said that if Asia Cup 2023 rights were snatched from them, there is a high chance their government might not allow Pakistan to travel to India for the 50-over World Cup later this year. Given the ACC is set to inform about their call to play Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, the PCB could be prompted to take extreme measures.

Besides, the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice are currently in Lahore seeking assurance from Pakistan over their participation in the World Cup.

Following regular meetings with Najam Sethi over their short visit to Lahore, it is learnt that both ICC bosses have been informed about Pakistan’s stance on the whole episode.

While the final schedule for the 2023 World Cup will be revealed on the sidelines of the World Test Championship final, it remains to be seen if Pakistan decides to participate or not.&nbsp;

In response to India's demand, Pakistan has said that they would also ask for a written guarantee from India to participate in 2025 Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, as for the Asia Cup, Pakistan has said that it will not be blackmailed by the BCCI over participation in ODI WC and they'll travel only if their own government allows them to. The Pakistan board also said that the BCCI cannot put forth the condition of Men In Green playing in ODI WC in turn for playing in the Asia Cup, said sources.

BCCI, on the other hand, will be holding a Special General Meeting (SGM) to decided on the issue of playing Asia Cup with a hybrid model in place.

PCB chief Najam Sethi had previously proposed two hybrid models for the Asian tournament. In the first model, India would be playing all its matches at a neutral venue and in the second model, all the matches of the tournament, after first four, would be shifted to a third venue, including the final.

PCB prepares action plan of Asia Cup hybrid model as demanded by BCCI - Sources

With so much chaos regarding this year's Asia Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi stunned one and all with his recent suggestion of taking the continental tournament out of the Asian shores and hosting it in the United Kingdom, with the iconic Lord's stadium to host the India-Pakistan clash.

Asia Cup 2023 edition remains under dark clouds as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have made it clear that they won't send Team India to Pakistan, where the tournament was scheduled to take place. Since then, a hybrid model was suggested by PCB chief where India can play their games outside Pakistan. However, he came up with the suggestion to take the tournament to be UK, drawing criticism from his predecessor Ramiz Raja.

"I was shocked to hear the Chairman PCB saying it would be great to see the Asia Cup being played at Lord’s. Is he mentally stable or not?," said Raja on his Youtube channel. The former PCB chairman said,"The whole point of Asia Cup before the World Cup was that the teams get familiar with the conditions of the sub-continent."

Ramiz added, "Another statement that made me angry was Mr Chairman telling the press they want to organise PSL season 9 in UAE because there are issues with taxation in Pakistan," said Raja. "At one hand you’re saying that Pakistan is safe for cricket regarding Asia Cup but on the other hand you are saying that PSL should not be conducted in Pakistan, how does that make sense?"

While PCB remains eager to host the Asia Cup in Pakistan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is looking to conduct the tournament at a neutral location before the ICC ODI World Cup, later this year in India.

'Is he mentally stable?': Ramiz Raja lashes out at PCB chief's proposal to host Asia Cup 2023 in England

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has called the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to implement a hybrid model for the upcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup to allow a smooth passage of play between the two nations. The ‘so-called’ hybrid model will see the fixture between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup get a stage at neutral venues as both countries have opted not to travel to their opposing team’s home due to poor diplomatic relations.

"We can play all the matches in a neutral venue. The World Cup can be held without any problem, the Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy can also be held,” Sethi said while in conversation with Sports Tak.

"If India are ready to play in Pakistan, there is no problem at all, then we will also go to India to play the World Cup. If that's not possible, then the hybrid model can be used as a compromise," he added.

<h2>Hybrid Model rejected</h2>

According to the latest reports, the hybrid model is set to be rejected by the BCCI and other member nations of the Asia Cricket Council (ACC), giving a big blow to Pakistan as they prepare to host the Asia Cup. With India not travelling to Pakistan and the hybrid model rejected, the speculations of the Asia Cup moving outside the current host nation have intensified.

Pakistan could be given a major blow in the coming days as Sri Lanka could host the Asia Cup.

"No, we never said all or nothing. We are saying if India is not able to play in Pakistan, it's okay. Pakistan will play India in a neutral venue. The remaining teams can play in Pakistan. Because Pakistan has hosted all major countries in the recent past, teams like Australia, England, Bangladesh, and New Zealand have come and played in Pakistan. There are no security issues. We can play a couple of matches against India and the rest of the teams' matches can also be played in a neutral venue. We are ready for a compromise. All or nothing is not what we want," Najam Sethi said.

The Asia Cup is all set to be hosted by Pakistan in September but there is no official word on whether they have been dropped as hosts. On the flip side, the ODI World Cup plans are already on the cards as BCCI is reported to have proposed the Narendra Modi Stadium as the venue for the league stage encounter on October 15.

PCB chief Sethi calls for hybrid model for Asia Cup and ODI World Cup, says 'We can play in neutral venue'

The Asia Cup 2023 edition is only months away but the mystery surrounding the host&nbsp;for the continental tournament continues. Pakistan have been named as the host for the tournament but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear, last year, that the Indian team won't travel to their neighbouring Asian country due to the strained political relations between both nations.&nbsp;

Since then, a lot has been said and written about the Asia Cup 2023 edition. Pakistan cricket board (PCB) responded by saying that it won't travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, to take place soon after the Asia Cup. Later on, it was revealed that the PCB offered a hybrid model where India will play their games at another&nbsp;venue while Pakistan will host the remaining games.

But this could also cost Pakistan the hosting rights. As per Cricket Pakistan, Pakistan will lose the hosting rights even if a hybrid model comes into place. Thus, the PCB is prepared to see the cancellation of this year's event. The report in&nbsp;cricketpakistan.com has further revealed that Team India might play a five-nation tournament in the vacant window following Asia Cup's cancellation.

Coming to Pakistan's threat to boycott this year's ODI WC, it is highly unlikely that they won't participate. The Men in Green travelled to India for the 2016 T20 World Cup. They, however, might play their games in one or two venues only.&nbsp;

The Asia Cup was held last year, in the T20 format, in the UAE with Sri Lanka having the hosting rights. The Islanders won the tournament, beating Pakistan by 23 runs in the final.

The Asia Cup 2023 edition is only months away but the mystery surrounding the host for the continental tournament continues. Pakistan have been named as the host for the tournament but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it clear, last year, that the Indian team won't travel to their neighbouring Asian country due to the strained political relations between both nations.

Pakistan cricket board (PCB) responded by saying that it won't travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, to take place soon after the Asia Cup. Later on, it was revealed that the PCB offered a hybrid model where India will play their games at another venue while Pakistan will host the remaining games. As per Cricket Pakistan, Pakistan will lose the hosting rights even if a hybrid model comes into place. Thus, the PCB is prepared to see the cancellation of this year's event. India to feature in five-nation tournament with Asia Cup 2023 unlikely before ODI World Cup: Report

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Rajs is baffled by the appointment of Mickey Arthur as the new Director of Cricket. On Thursday, the PCB announced the much-awaited appointment of the former head coach to take over the new role for an undisclosed period.

Raja, who unceremoniously got removed as the PCB chief following England's historic Test tour of Pakistan in December last year, launched a scathing attack on the board over Arthur's selection, calling it 'as crazy as a clown in a village circus'.&nbsp;

Speaking with Cricbuzz, Raja said, "A first-of-its-kind coach/director of cricket picked to run Pakistan cricket remotely, whose loyalty is first with his county job than Pakistan cricket. This is as crazy as a clown in a village circus."

He further tore into the board's call to bring back Najam Sethi as the new boss, claiming that Sethi doesn't understand the game and probably was never good enough to break into a club XI.

"A PCB chairman who doesn't understand cricket probably was not even good enough to make it to the XI in a club game, heads a cabal of political, petty-minded club runners for a management committee to run Pakistan cricket affairs, who are on a Rs 12 lakhs a month salary," Raja added.

As reported earlier, Arthur will work with the Pakistan Men's Cricket team remotely - meaning he will be involved in designing, formulating and even overseeing strategies for the team, but will not be present with them physically, owing to his commitment with the Derbyshire County Cricket Club.&nbsp;

"He (Arthur)&nbsp;will also be a part of the coaching staff for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, away tour to Australia and home series against the West Indies. He will also be present with the side for Pakistan's matches against India in the ACC Asia Cup," the PCB said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, it is for the second time that Mickey Arthur is getting connected with Pakistan Men's Cricket team, having earlier coached them during 2016-2019 - where he guided them to their maiden Champions Trophy in England.

Mickey Arthur's appointment as PCB's new Director of Cricket baffles Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) interim management committee led by President Najam Sethi will have an extended term. This comes a day after former coach Mickey Arthur was appointed as Director of the Pakistan Men's Cricket Team. The extension however will last for two to four weeks which will see them reimplement the board's 2014 constitution.

According to ESPNcricinfo’s report, Ehsan-ur-Rehman Mazari, the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), confirmed that a request for the extension had been made to the Prime Minister and that they have requested to name two nominees for the new board, one of whom is expected to become the PCB chairman.

The committee was initially given a term of 120 days, which will expire on Saturday.

A copy of the IPC summary to the Prime Minister's office, seen by ESPNcricinfo, reads: "The tenure of the management committee expires on April 21 and PCB is directed to submit a comprehensive report of activities so far after the revival of the PCB constitution of 2014 from 22 December 2022 to 20 April 2023. Following the development, the IPC is in its opinion to extend the tenure of the committee for a period of two to four weeks (maximum) to materialise the outcome of the action."

It is hoped that the new management could come into effect after the New Zealand series that is taking place at the moment. While nothing is clear yet, Sethi could still lead the new management despite getting some opposition in the country.

The new board committee will have the responsibility to oversee the ODI World Cup in India, where there are still doubts about whether they will visit India or not. On the horizon, the board will first have to deal with the Asia Cup issue, where Pakistan is the host while India has refused to visit due to poor diplomatic relations between the nations.

Sethi was selected to lead the 14-member management committee to run the PCB's affairs on an interim basis in December 2022. This came after former president Ramiz Raja was shown the exit doors while the board’s 2019 constitution was also abolished.

PCB boss Najam Sethi's interim committee to have extended term; set to reimplement board's 2014 constitution

A lot has been said and written about the Asia Cup 2023. While Pakistan are the originals host for the showpiece event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced last year that Team India won't travel to their neighbouring country (due to both nations' strained political relation). Since then, a lot of speculations have been raised with regard to where the continental tournament will be held, which is set to take place in September ahead of this year's ODI World Cup in India.

Firstly, it was said that the tournament will move to UAE with Pakistan to remain as the hosts. Last year, Sri Lanka remained the host but the competition was held in the UAE. However, multiple reports suggested that a hybrid model will be followed for Asia Cup, with India to play their encounters elsewhere. Now, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has shared his firm stance on Asia Cup hosting rights.&nbsp;

"We have made it very clear that unless the Asia Cup is held on a hybrid model like we have proposed, that is India playing its matches at an offshore venue and Pakistan hosting the remaining games at home, we will not accept any other schedule and neither play," he said as quoted by India Today.

"We will not lose our hosting rights. Security is no excuse for them now and we have told them if their government is not giving them clearance to play in Pakistan, show us some written proof of this," Sethi said.

It will be interesting to see where the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup gets held as the tournament is just a few months away from commencement.&nbsp;

'Pakistan will not accept any...': PCB chief Najam Sethi's FIRM STANCE on Asia Cup 2023 hosting rights

A second-stringed Pakistan line-up locked horns with Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series recently, where the Shadab Khan-led Men in Green lost 2-1. After the series, a lot of questions were raised on the Pakistan team management for experimenting with the team as they went in with some inexperienced players and rested the likes of regular captain Babar Azam, Md Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi. Among the inexperienced bunch, a lot of eyes were on former Pakistan keeper-batter Moin Khan's son Azam. Azam Khan failed to get going and now ex-player Aaquib Javed has severely criticised him.

Azam had a good run in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition, where he scored 238 runs at 161.90, but fell flat in the Afghanistan series and returned with 0 and 1 before being dropped for the third game, which Pakistan won by 66 runs. After his flop show, questions were raised on his selection -- with a spectator trolling him for his fitness and eating habits during the second T20I -- and now Javed has made a big remark.

"I am not sure what sort of experiment this was. It's clear to me that no consideration was taken when selecting the squad for this series about what standard of skills and fitness levels are needed to represent Pakistan.

"If I was a player in that squad, I would have refused to play with this team. First, at least attain some levels of fitness before playing. Hopefully, they will have learned from this," Javed was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan lost the series opener by six wickets and fought hard but went down in the following game as well, by seven wickets, before playing for pride in the final encounter and winning it by 66 runs in Sharjah. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Azam, who didn't impress both as a batter and&nbsp;wicketkeeper, will aim for a solid comeback in his next series for the national side.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) stand on playing in India for ODI World Cup took another twist on Thursday after the latest report. According to a report from Asian News International (ANI), PCB wants its cricket team to play in Sri Lanka or Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup with their stand still not clear. The stand of Pakistan came into the limelight after India refused to play in Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.

“Yes, we are thinking that we will not travel to India for World Cup matches if BCCI didn’t send their team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. We want Sri Lanka or Bangladesh to host our matches, we want to play there, and not in India,” a PCB source told ANI.

<h3>ICC clear air on Bangladesh option</h3>

After reports from ESPNcricinfo on Wednesday, Pakistan is exploring the option of using Bangladesh as a neutral venue for the ODI World Cup. According to the report, Bangladesh possesses perfect conditions similar to India and could help organise Pakistan’s matches.

However, International Cricket Council (ICC) officials said that Bangladesh was not an option for the showpiece event as a neutral venue. There were no discussions in the recently concluded ICC meetings on using Bangladesh as the neutral venue while India are exploring the option of using a neutral venue for the Asia Cup 2023 where Pakistan is the host.&nbsp;

"Bangladesh was not discussed at all at the Board meeting and full backing for the event [World Cup] in India was given by the Board. We're focused on that," an ICC official told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

Earlier, Wasim had said that Pakistan might end up playing their 2023 World Cup matches at a neutral venue instead of India.

“I don’t think that Pakistan will play their World Cup matches in India. I think their matches will also be held at a neutral venue just like India’s Asia Cup matches,” Wasim told a local news channel.

The ODI World Cup will begin in India on October 5 with the final likely to take place on November 19. The final of the competition is likely to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

ODI World Cup 2023: PCB open to neutral venue after Sri Lanka emerges as another potential option - Report

Following the final of HBL PSL 8 on Saturday, where Lahore Qalandars successfully defended its title against Multan Sultans, PCB Chief Najam Sethi revealed the digital viewership of their premier franchise tournament was higher than IPL 2022.

Addressing the media, Sethi claimed the crowd attendance during the matches was at an all-time high as ticket sales skyrocketed. Sethi added while PSL 8 digital viewership was 150 million, it was higher than its Indian counterpart IPL 2022, whose viewership was recorded at 130 million. Paying gratitude to fans for turning up in huge numbers throughout the tournament, Sethi said such numbers are by no means a small deal, while he appeared elated celebrating the success of PSL 8 success.

Meanwhile, there always remains a comparison between fans from both countries as to which is the better franchise-based T20 league. While IPL will be entering its 16th edition, starting March 31st, PSL completed its eighth season.

The defending champions Lahore Qalandars defeated the high-flying Multan Sultans in final by the barest of margins. Batting first, Lahore completed 200 runs, thanks to a 40-ball 65 from Abdullah Shafique and an out-of-the-world 15-ball 44* from the captain Shaheen Afridi, who smashed five sixes and two fours.

The chase was well-threaded by cameos from the top order, in which the man-in-form Rilee Rossouw top-scored with 52 from 32 balls. While the lower order also contributed with crucial runs, four wickets to seamer Afridi derailed their momentum going forward. In the end it all came down to the final over, where Zaman Khan successfully defended the target with just two runs remaining.

“My heart was pounding in the last over but my captain gave me a lot of confidence and he told me to try my best and don't fear failure. I knew batters are anticipating Yorkers, so I bowled a few slower ones as well. Credit goes to our management who give us free hand and back us to give our 100 per cent on the field,” said Zaman Khan.

I knew batters are anticipating Yorkers, so I bowled a few slower ones as well. Credit goes to our management who give us free hand and back us to give our 100 per cent on the field,” said Zaman Khan.

Digital viewership of PSL 8 higher than IPL 2022, reveals PCB chief Najam Sethi

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since early 2013. Ever since the political relations between both countries hit an all-time low, the two heavyweights only square off during multi-nation or ICC events. The Asia Cup 2023 edition is just six months away but there is no host for the continental event ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Team India won't travel to Pakistan for the forthcoming edition. Since then, it is understood that the tournament will once again be held at a neutral venue. However, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has lashed out at BCCI's stance.

'Why is India worried about security?'

In a press conference, Najam Sethi said, "I have kept my options open because when all teams are coming to Pakistan and have no issues with security. Then why is India worried about security? In the same way, we can also have security concerns over sending our team to India for the World Cup and I will be bringing this to the table at the coming meetings."

"Obviously we don’t support this stance (by India) because we want to hold the Asia Cup and remember it is not just about the Asia Cup and World Cup it is also about the Champions Trophy in 2025 in Pakistan."

"I had sought advice from the government and the situation is that we have to go by what our patron-in-chief tells us to do. If he says go and play in World Cup even if India doesn’t come for Asia Cup, what can we do? If he says don’t go it is a similar situation for us," Sethi further added.

Currently, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition is being held in Pakistan. The tournament faced a big hurdle following the Karachi terror attack but has continued uninterrupted.&nbsp;

The last time Pakistan travelled to India for a bilateral series was in 2013 whereas their last visit overall was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, India have not visited their Asian neighbours since 2008. It remains to be seen who will host the Asia Cup as India remain adamant about not travelling to Pakistan. Pakistan, on the other hand, have threatened to boycott the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India later this year, if their neighbours do not turn up for the continental tournament in September 2023.

'Teams are coming to Pak & have no security issues, then why is...': PCB chief on BCCI's Asia Cup stance

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pondering over giving much-required rest to star players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Haris Rauf to manage workloads ahead of Asia Cup and World Cup later this year. As per the latest report in ESPNcricinfo, PCB might rest the trio for the upcoming Afghanistan T20Is and the New Zealand T20Is that follow.

Following the latest selection committee meeting in which workload management of several top players was one of the topics for discussion, the possibility of bringing in new players and resting the big names grew big time.

Considering the amount of cricket that these three players have played across all formats (including international and domestic) since the start of January 2021 - Rizwan (150), Babar (127) and Haris (125), giving them rest ahead of the second half of the year looks like a viable option.

Meanwhile, with this step comes another problem – the captaincy one, as Babar is an all-format skipper, and not having him for nearly eight T20 matches (three against Afghanistan and five against New Zealand), meaning the appointment of a new skipper. While talks in the PCB have suggested that Shadab Khan is looked up to as a potential option, the board is also keen on getting ace seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi to lead the Pakistan's T20I side in Babar’s absence. As reported by the same publication, PCB is believed to have approached him for the role early this year.&nbsp;

Returning from the knee injury that saw him missing major part of last year’s cricket including the home series against England and New Zealand, the 22-year-old Afridi is not bad for an option given his credentials in the PSL lately.

With the limited experience of leading his team Lahore Qalandars in around 22 matches so far, Afridi had led to their maiden PSL title in 2022 and under his tutelage this time also, they have reached the playoffs.&nbsp;

Though no confirmation on the same is out yet, a decision around this call will be taken anytime soon.&nbsp;

Former Pakistan players often remain in the headlines for their staggering claims or severe criticism of the national side. Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar is also one of them who never shies away from expressing his views on various aspects of the gentlemen's game and once again made heads turn by criticising the current crop of players, especially captain Babar Azam, for their poor communication skills. Further, he went on to express his desire to become the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman to serve Pakistan cricket.

In an interaction with Suno News, Akhtar said, "I want to become PCB chairman and produce superstars for Pakistan. I want to produce 50 superstars for my country, then increase the count to 100, 200 and eventually 2000. I owe a lot to Pakistan cricket, and it’s my wish to serve Pakistan. He further asserted, "The reason I want to become PCB Chairman is I owe a debt of gratitude to Pakistan cricket as I am a beneficary of this system &amp; country. I want to start by creating 12 superstars, then 50 more, then another 200 to 2000 kids who are also superstars as backups."

Safaraz Ahmed saw a huge downfall in his international career post the 2019 ODI World Cup, in England and Wales. After Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals, they were whitewashed by a second-stringed Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series at home later in the year; resulting in his sacking as the captain. Soon, he was left out of the squad across formats. He made a solid return to the Test line-up in late 2022 during New Zealand's two-match series versus hosts Pakistan. He ended with 86, 53, 78, 118 to return as the Player-of-the-Series.&nbsp;

At present, Sarfaraz is involved in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, where he is leading the Quetta Gladiators. Recently, the wicketkeeper-batter made an appearance on a TV show in Pakistan. During the show, the host asked him to choose who is the better captain between Babar Azam,&nbsp;Azhar Ali&nbsp;and him. To this, the right-hander shared an epic response. Here's what he said:

"Sarfaraz Ahmed," while later adding, "Kisi ko naaraz karne se behtar hai ki apna he naam le lo (It’s better to take your own name rather than making anybody else angry)." Here's the video:

Shoaib Akhtar had a stellar run in international cricket. The pacer ended with as many as 444 scalps in a career than spanned for 14 years. He enjoyed a fierce rivalry with some big batters of his time, such as Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid, Gary Kirsten, etc., and gave many other batters sleepless nights with his raw pace and bounce. Akhtar's career was, however, marred with several controversies and injury concerns.

Akhtar added, "I want to openly say that Babar Azam should be the biggest brand in Pakistan, but why hasn't he become the biggest brand in Pakistan? Because he can’t speak. Is there any other cricketer who can speak well? Why do only I, Shahid Afridi, and Wasim Akram get all the advertisements? The reason is that we take it as a job."

This isn't the first time that Babar has faced criticism for his&nbsp;communication skills. Even in 2020, he addressed the issue during a press conference by saying that he is working on improving his communication skills. Back then, he stated, "I’m a cricketer; my job is to play cricket. I am not a 'gora'&nbsp;who knows English thoroughly. Yes, I am working on it, but you learn these things over a period of time; you can’t just suddenly learn it."

At present, Babar is leading the Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2023. While he is a superstar in modern-day cricket, he will be eager to work on his personality to shun his critics across the globe.

Akhtar has often made the headlines with his sensational claims or criticism of the Pakistan cricket team. Recently, the 47-year-old ex-speedster lashed out at the current crop of Pakistan players and targetted skipper Babar Azam whom he feels isn't a big brand yet in the country for his poor communication skills. In an interview with a local Pakistani channel, Akhtar pointed out the poor communication skills of Pakistani players, including Babar, and mentioned, "Abhi aap dekh le, koi character nahi team mein. Naa koi baat karne ka tarika. (You can see there's no character in the team, nor they know how to talk). How awkward it looks when they come to the presentation. Kitna mushkil hai English seekhna aur baat krna? (How difficult is it to learn and speak English?). Cricket is one job, and handling media is another. If you can’t speak, I am sorry, but you won’t be able to express yourself on TV."
