While the results and team's confidence did improve with Dhoni taking the charge once again, it was not enough to propel CSK into the playoffs. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has now claimed CSK would have failed to qualify for the playoffs even if Dhoni had captained right from the start of the season.

Harbhajan believes without Chahar, CSK didn't have a team which could have challenged for a spot in the top four and that their fate would have remained the same even if Dhoni had not handed over the captaincy to Jadeja before the start of the season.

SRH have 10 points from 12 matches and have an outside chance of making it to the playoffs if they can win their remaining two matches along with some favour from the other teams.

Amid his horrendous run with the bat and SRH's poor show in the tournament, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has suggested Williamson to give up captaincy and focus on his batting. Harbhajan recalled how Ricky Ponting did something similar in 2013 when he left captaincy midway through the season and helped the team win the title.

"Something similar happened with Ricky Ponting in 2013. He was captaining the team but he realized that he was letting the team down with his batting. So after 5-6 games, he himself stepped down and became a part of the think tank and we won the title that year," Harbhajan said on Sportskeeda.

"Williamson should think of handing the captaincy to someone else and focus on his batting. If he wants to be the captain again, he can come back next year," he added.

The former India spinner, who won a combined four IPL titles with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings before retiring, was critical of Williamson's decision to bowl Washington Sundar in the 20th over against KKR in SRH's last outing. Harbhajan said it was a huge error from Williamson to bowl Sundar against Andre Russell in the last over.

"Giving Washington Sundar the 20th over that day (against KKR) was a huge error by Williamson, Tom Moody or whoever made that decision. Even a non-cricket person would understand that bowling off -spin to Russell at the death wasn't the right decision," said Harbhajan.

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday announced that they have signed Akash Madhwal as a replacement for batter Suryakumar Yadav in IPL 2022, said an official tournament release. Yadav was earlier ruled out of the remainder of the tournament for Mumbai due to a left forearm muscle injury sustained in the match against Gujarat Titans.

"Akash Madhwal, has been with the Mumbai Indians as part of the support team and has now signed on to join the squad for the 2022 season. Akash Madhwal is a right arm medium fast bowler and has represented Cricket Association of Uttarakhand across all three formats of the game since making his debut in 2019," said an official statement from the franchise.

Madhwal is a 28-year-old right-arm medium-pacer from Uttarakhand who has played 15 T20s and taken 15 wickets at an average of 26.60 and an economy rate of 7.55. He has also played six First-Class matches and 11 List A matches, picking eight and 14 wickets respectively.

Sehwag also pointed out Gaikwad leads his state side &nbsp;Maharashtra in the domestic circuit and has similar qualities to Dhoni. Gaikwad was one of the four players retained by CSK ahead of IPL 2022 after his stunning campaign last year where he finished as the highest run-getter and bagged the Orange Cap.

"He (Ruturaj Gaikwad) captains Maharashtra. He plays very quietly. It's like even if he scored a century, it won't show in his mannerisms. Even if he scores a 0, you will see the same demeanour. It doesn't appear from his face if he is happy about scoring a hundred or sad about getting out for a duck. He has control, he is calm. He has all the qualities needed to be a good captain," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

"Anyone can have one good season, but if he plays 3-4 more seasons, he will become a captain who can become a long-term captain after MS Dhoni. Why does the world consider MS Dhoni a good captain? Because he is cool, takes his own decision and uses his bowlers and batters well He also has the luck factor," said Sehwag.
