India and New Zealand are the two best-performing teams in World Cup 2023. Following Sunday’s result in Dharamsala, where India ended Kiwi’s winning streak by beating them by four wickets, former cricket and Pakistan great Wasim Akram hailed both teams, saying squads should be like theirs. Akram said India is cruising ahead in this tournament like a train with failed brakes.

"India is like that run-away train that has its brakes failed. They are going that way," said Akram. "They have the weapons, have the merit, the skills and most importantly they know how to execute their plans."

In the clash of the two unbeaten teams (until yesterday), India crossed the winning line, thanks to an all-round show from the bowlers first and then the batters. Returning Mohammed Shami starred in his first game in this competition, picking a five-wicket haul – his second in CWC history, while Virat stood tall during the chase, notching up a match-winning 95.

In Hardik Pandya’s absence, India made two changes, bringing Suryakumar Yadav in for Hardik and playing Mohammed Shami for Shardul Thakur. With the home team returning to their old and usual template of playing with seven batters and four bowlers, they did well against a balanced New Zealand Team, restricting them to under 300 on an even Dharamsala track.&nbsp;

Hailing the changes India made given the opposition and conditions, Akram&nbsp;claimed&nbsp;teams should bring in like-to-like replacements of star players (the way the Indian Team did) to maintain the balance.

"They did one change according to the situation. Squads should be such, like India and New Zealand's, so that if anybody is injured or out of touch or you want to play someone according to opposition or pitch (then you have such resources available). Like India played Shami, Hardik was injured, they dropped Shardul (Thakur), and SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) was brought in as a new batter. Then Shami got a wicket off the first ball of his spell," the veteran seamer added.

<h2>India on top of points table</h2>

With India beating New Zealand, they won their fifth straight match at the World Cup, claiming the top spot on the points table. For them to seal the semis spot, India must at least win one out of their next four matches, and with two wins, they will guarantee their place in the final four.

Indian Team will next face the defending champions England on Sunday (Oct 29) in Lucknow.

World Cup - Squads should be like India and New Zealand’s: Wasim Akram in awe of Dharamsala chase

World Cup 2023: IN PICS - Five top moments from India's emphatic win against New Zealand

India and New Zealand – two unbeaten teams in this World Cup so far, will lock horns on Sunday (Oct 22) at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala. As veteran batter Virat Kohli gears up for a fierce contest against India’s toughest opponents at the top stage, he talks highly of a ‘professional and a well-structured’ Kiwi team that has, much like India, clicked all boxes in their four contested matches in World Cup 2023.

With all eyeballs on this marquee World Cup clash in Dharamsala – a venue that assists seamers with extra movement in the air and off the pitch, Virat will look forward to putting past demons behind and scoring big against the best seam attack in this tournament.

With New Zealand gaining an advantage over India with better performances on the past two occasions in ICC events (2019 CWC semis and 2021 WTC Final), the home team can correct their mistakes and write history on a new day.

Speaking to the host broadcaster on the day of the match, Kohli hailed the high-flying New Zealand team, saying they don’t make many mistakes and play consistent cricket within their structure, resulting in their success at the top level.

"They are a very professional side and a very structured side; they have a very structured way of playing their cricket. But within that structure, they have been very consistent, and that has been the reason for their success,” Kohli told Star Sports ahead of the India-New Zealand World Cup match.

“Credit to the side for the way that they are playing. Any team that plays against them has to find a way to break their rhythm and play to the best of their abilities, which will eventually decide whether you can cope up with their consistency or not because they are not a team that makes many mistakes.

“That's been their strength, and at the international level, if you don't make many mistakes, then you have a good chance of winning the game more often," Kohli added.&nbsp;

<h2>Indian batters vs Kiwi bowlers</h2>

It is the contest the world is craving to watch – the Kiwi bowlers against the star-studded Indian batting attack. From Matt Henry vs Rohit Sharma to Trent Boult vs King Kohli, several player battles will make headlines on Sunday.&nbsp;

With Indian batters in top-notch form, given how well Rohit and Kohli have played in this tournament, the home team will enter this contest as slight favourites.&nbsp;

Kohli hails 'professional and well-structured' New Zealand as India gear up for marquee World Cup clash

The match the cricket fans are eagerly waiting for - between India and New Zealand is upon us. Two top sides in world cricket, two unbeaten teams in this competition thus far, will lock horns at the beautiful HPCA stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday (Oct 22). Here is the match preview and result prediction of the India vs New Zealand World Cup 2023 match.

<h2>India aim revenge</h2>

Having suffered a close and heartbreaking defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the past edition’s semis in Manchester, India now has a chance and stage to take revenge and continue with their winning streak in the home World Cup.

The most balanced side in this competition has done everything right, winning four matches straight, beating Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. While India’s top order has made all the noise with hundreds from Rohit and Kohli, the lower middle order is yet to get tested in this World Cup.&nbsp;

The bowling department has impressed one and all, but the obstacle here is whom to replace Hardik Pandya in the XI, who will miss the match with an ankle injury.

<h3>New Zealand ready for Manchester repeat</h3>

Having broken India’s back before at a World Cup stage with startling bowling performances, the Kiwi seamers will be licking their lips considering the venue and the surface on offer.

Trent Boult and Matt Henry will hold the keys with the new ball, while Lockie Ferguson will take care of the middle overs with sheer pace. Having the luxury of playing two spinners in Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner, New Zealand is ready to take on star-studded Indian batting.

The Kiwi batters are in equally good form, with most contributing in the concluded matches. Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell will be the batters to look out for, while Mark Chapman will have the chance to prove his worth at the top stage.

<h3>Result Prediction –</h3>

Given the conditions in Dharamsala, the ball will move early on, assisting seamers from both ends. However, the team with a stronger batting unit will prevail, and on current form, India looks likely to beat New Zealand in Dharamsala.

Predicted XIs –

India - Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami/Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj

New Zealand - Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (c&amp;wk), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson

World Cup 2023, India vs New Zealand: Match preview and result prediction

Ace New Zealand bowler Trent Boult said facing the ‘powerful’ Indian Team would be challenging but also admitted to enjoying playing against them. The Kiwi seamers have a bitter-sweet history with Indian batters after what transpired the last time in Manchester four years ago. Aware of the home team peaking at this time in the tournament, Boult said he is looking forward to the clash in Dharamsala.

“They’re a powerful team, they cover all bases,” Boult told Reuters ahead of Sunday's World Cup blockbuster against India. “They’ve been playing some good cricket, but it’s been a team that we’ve enjoyed playing.”

Given the rise of the franchise-based T20 leagues and the emergence of IPL, several New Zealand players in the CWC squad have plied their trades in the league for some time now. Considering this, Boult said most of the players are already familiar with the conditions and having played against India lately, they have their plans ready for the marquee clash.

“Nothing changes from our point of view really. It’s about going out there and being positive and doing the things that work well. These guys are very familiar with the conditions, but they feel pressure just as much as any other batsman or any other bowler,” Boult said.

With India and New Zealand being the only two teams remaining unbeaten so far in the competition, come Sunday one of them would have its streak broken.

“Both undefeated, I’m sure it will be a cracker,” added Boult.

<h2>Boult ready for high-voltage match</h2>

Acknowledging the craze for cricket in India and what it means to the billion fans, Boult anticipates a high-octane clash.

“Playing against India in India, it doesn’t get much bigger than that,” Boult said. He anticipates an increase in intensity and possibly a few fireworks during the match. “But hopefully they’re for us,” Boult added optimistically.

While the Kiwis have beaten the defending champions England, the Netherlands, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in four matches played, the hosts India walked over Australia, Afghanistan, arch-rivals Pakistan and Bangladesh in their scheduled games.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, against New Zealand, India would be without their star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, who injured his left ankle while attempting to stop the ball during the game against Bangladesh.&nbsp;

In his absence, India could either play an extra batter in Ishan Kishan or Suryakumar Yadav or could opt for playing an extra seamer in Mohammed Shami, given the favourable conditions.

World Cup: They are powerful but we enjoy playing against them - Trent Boult on facing India in Dharamsala

Indian fans were jolted by an injury scare to ace all-rounder Hardik Pandya during the Bangladesh match in World Cup 2023. Pandya injured his ankle while attempting to stop the ball during his first over. He had to be rushed for scans immediately. Speaking to the media during the post-match presser, Captain Rohit Sharma provided everyone with the latest update on Pandya.

Per the visuals, Pandya’s ankle got twisted during his follow-through, but Rohit claimed he was out of danger for now. With reports of his scans coming in a day or two, his availability status remains unclear.

“He (Hardik) pulled up a bit sore, nothing really major to worry. We'll see how he pulls up tomorrow morning and then plan on how to go forward,” Rohit said of Hardik Pandya.

Considering the balance Pandya brings with his dual ability, his absence at this stage would be a huge blow to the peaking Indian Team. With India opting to play with a different template than the usual one, considering playing Jadeja and Pandya alongside a bowling all-rounder at number eight instead of an outright bowler, an injury here would upset the whole system.

In the best-case scenario, Pandya would attain full fitness before India’s next clash against New Zealand in Dharamshala on Sunday. But, if he gets injured and asked to spend some time on the sidelines, India would either return to their original template of playing seven batters (picking either of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan) and four bowlers or play six batters, Shardul Thakur as the bowling all-rounder and four bowlers (by bringing in Mohammed Shami).

<h2>Rohit acknowledges Pune's win</h2>

Rohit was happy for India to face some grunt earlier and then find their way back into the game. Appreciating the fielding efforts, not only in this game but throughout, Rohit said, “It was a good win, something we were looking forward to. We didn't start well, but the guys pulled it back in the middle-overs and at the back end. Our fielding has been superb in all these matches, it's something that's in your control, and you can put in your best effort."

"The bowlers were smart to understand what lengths to bowl. Jaddu was brilliant with the ball and the catch, but you can't beat a hundred. We're doing well as a group, a medal for all performances on the playing field and that's something which motivates everyone to do well (speaking about dressing room awards),” the Indian captain added.

With four wins in as many matches, India are second on the points table and face toppers New Zealand in the marquee clash on Sunday.

World Cup - Hardik Pandya pulled up bit sore but nothing much to worry: Rohit Sharma

From Virat Kohli to R Ashwin: Top 6 Indian players to feature in most wins in ICC events

India was dealt with a big blow as all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya got injured during the team's ongoing clash versus Bangladesh in ICC ODI World Cup on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune. After being asked to bowl first, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue were struggling to get rid of the Bangladeshi openers Litton Das and&nbsp;Tanzid Hasan when the captain turned to Hardik in the ninth over.&nbsp;

Hardik did not start well,&nbsp;conceding two back-to-back&nbsp;boundaries after a dot ball. While conceding his second four, on the third delivery, he&nbsp;tried to stop the white cherry with his right leg in his follow through and slipped. He was on the ground for quite some time and attended by the team physio before getting up. Still struggling to run, the 30-year-old walked off the field with former captain Virat Kohli completing his over. Since then, Hardik has remained out of action.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now provided a massive update on his injury. BCCI wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Hardik Pandya's injury is being assessed at the moment and he is being taken for scans."

Since Hardik's departure, India have managed to tighten the screws of Bangladesh with regular breakthroughs. Litton (66) and Tanzid (51) have returned to the pavillion whereas the likes of stand-in captain&nbsp;Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz fell in quick succession with Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj&nbsp;and Kuldeep Yadav being among wickets.&nbsp;

Rohit-led India will, however, keep a close tab on Hardik's fitness as he is extremely vital for the team's balance. So far, the veteran has picked up five wickets in three games and is a vital cog in India's batting line-up as well.&nbsp;

India was dealt with a big blow as all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya got injured during the team's ongoing clash versus Bangladesh in ICC ODI World Cup on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune.

India was dealt with a big blow as all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya got injured during the team's ongoing clash versus Bangladesh in ICC ODI World Cup on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune. After being asked to bowl first, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue were struggling to get rid of the Bangladeshi openers Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan when the captain turned to Hardik in the ninth over. Hardik did not start well, conceding two back-to-back boundaries after a dot ball. While conceding his second four, on the third delivery, he tried to stop the white cherry with his right leg in his follow through and slipped. BCCI wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Hardik Pandya's injury is being assessed at the moment and he is being taken for scans." India vs Bangladesh, CWC '23: Concern for Rohit-led hosts? BCCI provides BIG injury update on Hardik Pandya

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lodged a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over alleged "inappropriate crowd behaviour" during the Men in Green's clash versus India in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The match was held on Oct 14 (Saturday) in the west Indian city of Ahmedabad, where Rohit Sharma-led India thrashed Babar Azam's Pakistan by seven wickets. After PCB's complaint, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan recalled a shocking story of being hit by a nail in India-Pakistan clash during his playing days.&nbsp;

Speaking on Star Sports, amid the ongoing India-Bangladesh tie in Pune on Thursday (Oct 19), Irfan recalled the shocking story which took place during his active days when India toured Pakistan (during 2004 and 2006).&nbsp;

<h2>'The match was halted for 10 minutes, but we did not pay any heed to it'</h2>

"We were playing a game in Peshawar, when a fan threw a nail at me, which struck me under my eye. I could have gotten seriously injured. The match was halted for 10 minutes, but we did not pay any heed to it as we were playing good cricket,” Pathan said on commentary.

After this, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra took to his official account on X, formerly Twitter, to react to Irfan's revelations. He wrote, "Didn’t know that fans in Peshawar threw a nail at Irfan, which hit him under the eye. Remember the game getting stopped for a bit bcoz of fan trouble but it’s only today I got to know the exact reason. Well done."

To this, Irfan was quick to respond and replied saying, "I Would have taken to my grave brother cos I think fans are the utmost important to this game and things do happen. But the narrative is set differently now days with some ppl trying to spread unnecessary negativity for their own benefit. So i spoke. Love you brother."

Irfan shared the incident following PCB's formal complaint, raising issue on the treatment given to Pakistani cricketers during the India clash. "The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged another formal protest with the ICC over delays in visas for Pakistani journalists and the absence of a visa policy for Pakistan fans for the ongoing World Cup 2023. The PCB has also filed a complaint regarding inappropriate conduct targeted at the Pakistan squad during the India vs Pakistan match held on 14 October 2023," PCB posted on X.

At present, Pakistan occupy the fourth spot in the points table with two wins and a heavy defeat versus India. The hosts, with three back-to-back wins, are at the second spot with unbeaten New Zealand on top.

SHOCKING! As PCB complains about Indian crowd in CWC '23, Irfan Pathan recalls how Pak fan threw nail at him

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has made a bold claim amid the ODI World Cup 2023 edition in India. Chopra feels there could be an India versus New Zealand final in the ongoing 2023 edition. The former Indian cricketer made the remark after the Kiwis won their fourth game on the trot, beating Afghanistan by 149 runs in match 16 on Wednesday (Oct 18) in Chennai.&nbsp;

The Kane Williamson-less Kiwis have been on a roll in the current edition. The Black Caps have won their opening four games and will now take on India on Sunday (Oct 22) in Dharamshala. They entered the ten-team tournament with several injury concerns. Regular captain Kane Williamson missed the first two games (with a knee injury), played the third and is once again out of action with a thumb injury. Meanwhile,&nbsp;Tim Southee is yet to play --&nbsp;also dealing with&nbsp;a thumb&nbsp;injury. However, the Black Caps continue to win and move forward courtesy of contributions from Mitchell Santner, stand-in skipper Tom Latham, Matt Henry, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, etc.

<h2>'Not a big deal that it could be an India-New Zealand final'</h2>

Thus, Chopra said on his YouTube channel, "They are an amazing team and I feel it's not a big deal that it could be an India-New Zealand final. They have won four out of four and the semi-final berth is almost confirmed. It is such a good team that it doesn't make a difference to them whether Kane (Williamson) is there or not. They figure out a way to win."

In Chennai, New Zealand were struggling at 110 for 4 after being 109 for 1, being asked to bat by the Afghans. Nonetheless, Glenn Phillips (71) and Latham (68) and Mark Chapman (12-ball 25*) took them to 288 for 6 after Will Young (54) set the tone for the side. With the ball, Santner and Lockie Ferguson's three-fers each dismissed the Afghans for 139 in 34.4 overs.&nbsp;

Chopra lauded Kiwis for managing a mini-collapse and feels they are&nbsp;finding players who can bail them out of crisis regularly.&nbsp;He opined, "Kane wasn't there and there was a collapse in the middle, Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed two players in an over, but Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips came there. Will Young was there with Rachin Ravindra at the start. Conway also scored a few runs. Once you reach 280-plus, runs are not scored that easily here."

The former Indian opener also praised Kiwis bowling attack and added, "In bowling, Trent Boult with the new ball and Matt Henry with his incoming delivery. Lockie Ferguson is actually breathing fire. The guy bowls amazingly well. He dismisses batters by scaring and threatening them."

Despite all the injury crisis, the Tom Latham-led NZ have kept the winning run intact and are one of the strongest contenders to life the title, after missing out in the 2015 and 2019 editions by a whisker (ending as&nbsp;runners-up twice).&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma-led India are also on fire with three straight wins and have locked horns with Bangladesh on Thursday (Oct 19) at the MCA Stadium in Pune. They will next meet New Zealand on Sunday in Dharamshala.

It could be India vs New Zealand in CWC '23 final: Former Indian opener makes BOLD claim

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar feels Rohit Sharma-led India won't make the mistake of taking Bangladesh lightly ahead of the two teams' face-off in match 17 of the ODI World Cup on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune. The two Asian sides will lock horns at the MCA Stadium in Pune, where the World Cup returns after 27 years.

Bangar feels India-Bangladesh games have often gone down to the wire and, hence, the in-form Rohit-led Men in Blue won't take Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangla Tigers lightly.

Bangar said on Star Sports ahead of the game, "Tight game. I mean India, Bangladesh are always tight games. In the World Cup 2015, they met us in the quarterfinals. It was a close game. Even in the 2019 World Cup, they came very close to chasing 310 odd, fell short by 30. So India will have to be at their best. Asia Cup (2012), they beat the Indian team, although it was a second-string Indian team. But Indian team knows that they can't take this game lightly because they would certainly want to catch up with New Zealand and maintain their position right at the top."

Bangladesh have not had a good run so far in the 2023 edition. They started off with a six-wicket win over Afghanistan but lost to England and New Zealand convincingly. While they don't have a good head-to-head record versus India overall (8-31) and even in ODI World Cups (1-3), they have beaten India thrice in the last five encounters.

Talking about the CWC 2023 edition, not many games have been closely-fought but the ongoing tournament has already seen two big upsets with Afghanistan beating defending champions England&nbsp;in match 13 in New Delhi on Sunday (Oct 15), whereas the Netherlands also defeated title-contenders South Africa in match 15 in Dharamshala on Tuesday (Oct 17).

Thus, India will surely not take Bangladesh lightly -- who defeated them once in the 2007 edition.

World Cup 2023: India know they cannot take Bangladesh lightly, reckons former Indian batting coach

India's bowling coach Paras Mhambrey hailed R Ashwin ahead of India's upcoming clash versus Bangladesh in match 17 of the ODI World Cup 2023 edition on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune. Ashwin was drafted into India's final 15-member squad after Axar Patel's injury sidelined him from the mega event. Ashwin was part of India's squad for their last series in the run-up to the World Cup, where they faced Australia in the three ODIs (winning 2-1). The wily off-spinner ended with four wickets in two games and eventually became part of the World Cup squad.&nbsp;

Ashwin played India's tournament opener in the ODI World Cup, where they faced Australia in Chennai. Since then, he has been warming the bench as Shardul Thakur has been preferred over him. Mhambrey opened up on Ashwin not getting a chance due to the team combination and hailed him&nbsp;saying 'he is a great team guy'.&nbsp;

In the pre-match presser, in Pune, Mhambrey said, "It's a really tough one. When you have a world-class bowler (like Ashwin) in your 15, and you are unable to give him a game. It's a tough call and you have to take such calls. I think the conversation has always been team-centric. All the decisions that we have taken, not only before this game but over the last few years are based on the team. We go with the side that's best for the surface, and the best combination."

Mhambrey lauded Ashwin and stated, "And in that sense, he has been a great lad, he understands that. He is a great team guy. I have never seen him grumpy, never seen him complaining anytime for any of the last few years, he has been with us. Having someone like that really helps. And I think credit goes to him. Even after so many years, he is there, he wants to do well for the team, he turns up every practice session, goes through the rigours, and he keeps bowling. He is a great team man. I must compliment that."

Mhambrey, who joined the support staff in 2021, also opened up on Mohammed Shami not getting a chance in the home World Cup so far. "Honestly, it's never an easy decision. But I think we had a clear chat with him (Shami), whenever we select a squad, the messages from us are very clear. We pick a squad which feel is best for that wicket. Sometimes, you will miss out. Someone like him will miss out, someone like Ash will miss out, that's a communication that we have with him. That's very clear. It's a difficult decision with the quality that he brings to the team with the new ball, at the death. No doubt, it's a difficult decision but you have to take that call. You only have 11 on the field," he added.&nbsp;

Rohit Sharma-led India are at the top in the points table with three straight wins.&nbsp;

CWC '23: Have never seen Ashwin grumpy after being benched - India's bowling coach lauds star spinner

Rohit Sharma-led India have been in top form in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition at home. After three games, the Men in Blue have&nbsp;equal number of wins and&nbsp;are at the top in the points table. So far, India have beaten Australia, Afghanistan and Pakistan and will now face Bangladesh in match 17 of the ten-team tournament at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Thursday (Oct 19). Ahead of the India-Bangladesh tie, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Khan has lavished praise on Rohit. Irfan feels Rohit has been displaying the most aggressive approach among all captains in the competition.

Speaking on Star Sports, Irfan opined on Rohit&nbsp;defending in the net session, in Pune,&nbsp;something he hasn't done in the matches so far. To this, he said, "This is a backfoot punch for four. It is his timing. He is in very good form. The way he is leaving deliveries, it means he is not just coming and playing carelessly in the nets, and just playing the big shots." He further opined, "He is going with full confidence into the practice but is still respecting the balls that need to be respected, but Rohit Sharma has adopted the most aggressive approach among all captains in this World Cup, which is not easy."

Irfan added, "We won't get tired of praising him because he deserves praise considering the responsibility he has shouldered. He is playing shots extremely easily. You might see defensive as well as big shots in practice, but he will keep his attacking approach in the match. All batters and bowlers you saw in practice, they were looking in great control when they were practicing and I was seeing them on the ground as well. They were relaxed and played foot volleyball for half an hour before the Pakistan match."

Rohit has been in top form both as captain and player in the home ODI World Cup. He has made some good bowling changes, been at-par with his team combination and has scored 217 runs in three outings -- including a hundred and a fifty. After falling for a duck in India's tournament-opener, versus Australia, he has played aggressively from the word go versus the Afghans and arch-rivals Pakistan to set the tone for the team.&nbsp;

Rohit-led India will now face the Bangla Tigers on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune and hope to make it four wins on the trot in the tournament.&nbsp;

Netherlands beat South Africa by 38 runs in match 15 of the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition on Tuesday (Oct 17). Locking horns at the&nbsp;Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala, the Dutch rode on captain Scott Edwards' 69-ball 78 not out to post a challenging 245 for 8 in a 43-over contest. In reply, South Africa were always on the back foot. They were reduced to 44 for 4 and were bundled out for 207 in 42.5 overs to lose by 38 runs (DLS method) in what is certainly one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Since then, many former cricketers and experts of the game have lauded the Dutch side for their emphatic performance. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar also joined the bandwagon and shared a heartfelt post on X, formerly Twitter, for Edwards &amp; Co.&nbsp;

Former Indian pacer S Sreesanth has hit back at Mickey Arthur after the latter made some audacious claims, despite being humbled by the men-in-blue in the World Cup encounter. After the loss, Arthur, Pakistan men's cricket team's technical director admitted that he is still looking forward to taking on the tournament hosts in the summit clash. “Mickey Arthur said we’ll meet in the final. I don’t think Pakistan can ever beat India in an ICC trophy or in any other event considering the team they have. Even our C team can beat Pakistan’s main XI. Make an IPL XI of players who are not playing, even they can defeat the Pakistan team,” said Sreesanth. “Pakistan cannot even dream of playing in such a big stadium. We gave them a chance, but if you play like that, you won’t get such chances again,” Sreesanth added. Also read | World Cup 2023: ICC responds to Mickey Arthur's controversial 'BCCI event' remarks Arthur's controversial remarks Ever since suffering the loss against India, Arthur has issued a slew of excuses to hide the dismal performance of the Pakistan team. He said the World Cup in India felt more like a BCCI event than an ICC event. "It didn't seem like an ICC event to be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series; it seemed like a BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) event," said Arthur. Arthur also accused the Narendra Modi Stadium's public address system organisers of favouring India by refusing to play "Dil Dil Pakistan", the nation's unofficial anthem. "I didn't hear 'Dil Dil Pakistan' ('My heart is Pakistan') coming through too often tonight. So yes, that does play a role, but I'm not going to use that as an excuse." India belted Pakistan by seven wickets in the match after the bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, outfoxed the opposition batters. In the end, India maintained their perfect World Cup record against the arch-rivals, extending it to eight wins in as many games. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

World Cup 2023: 'Even India's C team can beat them', Former Indian cricketer claps back at Pakistan

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has slammed Babar Azam-led Pakistan's batting unit after their horror show versus arch-rivals India in match 12 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition. The sides met each other on Saturday (Oct 14) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad where India opted to bowl first.&nbsp;

From 155 for 2, Pakistan slipped to 191 all-out in 42.5 overs with Jasprit Bumrah (2 for 19), Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 35) and the likes of Md Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya claiming two wickets apiece. In reply, India made a mockery of the low total and chased it down in 30.3 overs to win by seven wickets in hand.

After yet another defeat to India in ODI World Cup history, Ganguly has come hard at the Pakistani batters. He was quoted as saying by Times Now, "During our time, Pakistan was a different team, this is not the type of Pakistan team we used to play. This team can’t handle the pressure during the batting. It will be hard for Pakistan to come back in this World Cup with this batting."

CWC 2023: Ganguly slams Pak's batting unit, says 'will be hard' for them to come back post India drubbing

Rohit Sharma-led India are off to a brilliant start in the 2023 ODI World Cup at home. After three games, they remain unbeaten and have shown a lot of determination on the field as the Men in Blue look to end their ten-year-long ICC title drought. Rohit is eager to win the ODI World Cup after missing out on being part of MS Dhoni-led India's 2011 victorious campaign.

Following his 2011 ODI World Cup snub, Rohit has changed his career emphatically. Before 2013, he was deemed inconsistent but since then, he has turned things around drastically and is now desperate to win the World Cup this time around as captain and player. Amol Mazumdar, former domestic stalwart, has lauded Hitman for showing enough maturity post his 2011 setback and becoming a huge name in Indian cricket (with over 10,000 ODI runs, four T20I centuries and a vital part of the Test line-up as well since late 2019).

Speaking on Star Sports show "Follow the Blues", Mazumdar said, "According to me, when he wasn’t selected in that 2011 World Cup where the team happened to go and win the tournament, that really upset him. After that, he’s just been excellent. When he got the captaincy (in the IPL) later, it added responsibility on his shoulders, and he really matured."

He further opined. "And he’s never looked back after that. That was one setback which he took positively and turned it around for himself."

Mazumdar added, "I&nbsp;want to highlight 3 things about his captaincy. The first one is that Rohit Sharma gives a lot of weightage and importance to data and statistics. The second one is, he keeps things very simple and tries to make his team members to think simple. He keeps everyone in the team in a very cool and calm atmosphere."

“And, the third one, which is the most important point, is that he has that magical touch in him. Whatever changes he makes, that comes out like a magical touch, like, for example, Mumbai Indians got that magical touch in their team after Rohit Sharma became their captain."

Rohit-led India are at the top in the CWC 2023 edition points table after three back-to-back wins. They will face Bangladesh on Thursday (Oct 19) at the MCA Stadium, Pune. Hitman has been in top form both as captain and batter so far. He has amassed 217 runs -- third-most and highest among Indians -- in the tournament and will look to go big versus the Bangla Tigers as well.

Rohit Sharma turned his career around after 2011 ODI World Cup omission, says Amol Mazumdar

Rohit Sharma announcing on the game eve that Shubman Gill is 99% match-ready cheered the whole cricket-loving nation up, but there was still something to read between the lines. The young batter, perhaps in the best form, was down with dengue fever ahead of India’s warm-up matches, remaining out of contention ever since. In the past week, Gill got hospitalised in Chennai, travelled to Ahmedabad, regained fitness, and played the match against Pakistan and ended up on the winning side.

But how did he get fit so early and return to the side for the marquee World Cup clash? As per the latest reports, his treatment at the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai should be credited for the same.&nbsp;

Going back to&nbsp;Rohit’s comments on Gill on the eve of the Pakistan match, Shubman was 100% fit, but the captain and the team management were concerned about things going wrong or a relapse of fever on the match-day, thus sticking with 99% claim instead of declaring him fit.&nbsp;

The bigger question at that point was how Gill would be able to endure 100 overs on the field, having recovered from the fever very recently. The right-handed batter had two days – Thursday and Friday to get back to the ground and prepare for the game.&nbsp;

<h2>From getting hospitalised to playing against Pakistan – Gill’s timeline</h2>

As first reported by Cricbuzz, Dr Sivarama Kannan - the physician responsible for Gill's speedy recovery, explained what happened behind the scenes and how he managed to recover so quickly.

"A young person, an athlete, usually recovers well. He was fully cooperative and attentive. He obliged to whatever we said," the doctor said.&nbsp;

"He came on the evening of the India-Australia match (October 8) and went back to the hotel the next evening. We had our male nurse, one person stationed there to give him timely injections and IV fluids,” the doctor added.

"He came to us on the second day of his illness... We didn't allow his body temperature to rise. We continuously administered medication to ensure that the fever didn't escalate, and we maintained his hydration to prevent the disease from taking hold."

"When the platelet count dropped below 50,000-60,000, we decided to admit him to the hospital. This was during India's match against Australia. The next morning, his platelet count dropped further, but by Monday evening, it began to increase, so we shifted him back to the hotel,” he added.

On Wednesday, Gill’s platelet count surpassed 100,000, which is when Dr. Kannan, discharged him.&nbsp;

"The following day, Tuesday, October 10, his platelet count increased, and it continued to rise on the subsequent day. By Wednesday morning, I informed him that he was fit to travel as his count had gone beyond one lakh. That afternoon, he left for Ahmedabad,” the doctor detailed.

Gill joined the Indian Team in Ahmedabad on Wednesday and trained for two days before the team management decided to play him at the last moment.&nbsp;

Gill scored four fours in his 11-ball 16-run-stay at the crease before he got caught in the point region.&nbsp;

India will next face Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday (Oct 19).

From getting hospitalised to playing against Pakistan – Gill’s timeline As first reported by Cricbuzz, Dr Sivarama Kannan - the physician responsible for Gill's speedy recovery, explained what happened behind the scenes and how he managed to recover so quickly. ALSO READ: I enjoy playing in India, it suits my style: England’s Root happy to return to form as Afghanistan tie looms "A young person, an athlete, usually recovers well. He was fully cooperative and attentive. He obliged to whatever we said," the doctor said. "He came on the evening of the India-Australia match (October 8) and went back to the hotel the next evening. We had our male nurse, one person stationed there to give him timely injections and IV fluids,” the doctor added. "He came to us on the second day of his illness... We didn't allow his body temperature to rise. We continuously administered medication to ensure that the fever didn't escalate, and we maintained his hydration to prevent the disease from taking hold." "When the platelet count dropped below 50,000-60,000, we decided to admit him to the hospital. This was during India's match against Australia. The next morning, his platelet count dropped further, but by Monday evening, it began to increase, so we shifted him back to the hotel,” he added. On Wednesday, Gill’s platelet count surpassed 100,000, which is when Dr. Kannan, discharged him. Gill joined the Indian Team in Ahmedabad on Wednesday and trained for two days before the team management decided to play him at the last moment. Gill scored four fours in his 11-ball 16-run-stay at the crease before he got caught in the point region. India will next face Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday (Oct 19). CWC: From being hospitalised to getting 99% match-ready, here's how Shubman Gill got fit in time

Pakistan captain Babar Azam was scathing in his assessment after his side succumbed in a rather timid manner to arch rivals India in the ongoing World Cup. Speaking at the post-match ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Babar said the Pakistani team was not up to the task on the day.&nbsp;

Put in to bat first, the Pakistani side crumbled after getting a decent start as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan failed to capitalise on starts.&nbsp;

"We started well. We got a good partnership going. We just planned to play normal cricket and build partnerships, but suddenly we had a collapse in the middle order and did not finish well. Not good for us. The way we started, we wanted to target 280-290, but the collapse cost us. And the total was not good. With the new ball, probably we are not up to the mark. Different game, different situation," said Babar after the match.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Pakistani skipper also praised his Indian counterpart, adding: "Rohit&nbsp;(Sharma) was outstanding today. We tried to take wickets and win the match, but didn't happen."

<h2>Rohit Sharma praises bowlers&nbsp;</h2>

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was all praise for his bowlers and said restricting the Pakistani batting lineup to 190 was a 'great effort'.&nbsp;

"The bowlers were the ones who set the game for us today as well. Restricting them to around 190 was a great effort. I don't think it was a 190-pitch. At one stage, we were looking at 280 or 270,"&nbsp;said Sharma.&nbsp;

"We've got six individuals who can do the job for us with the ball. It cannot be everyone's day every day. The guy who is having a good day needs to make sure he gets the job done for the team. And obviously, my job as the captain is important there as well - to read the conditions, assess who is the guy who can trouble the batters."

"All in all it's looking good. We don't want to get too excited or too low as well. We want to stay balanced and that's the key playing a tournament like the World Cup. We've got to keep calm, keep it balanced and keep moving forward."

With the win, India now find themselves on top of the points table and well on their way to securing a top 4 finish. The Men-in-Blue will now face Bangladesh next week on Thursday (Oct 19) at the&nbsp;Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.&nbsp;

World Cup 2023: 'We were not up to the mark...', Babar Azam's scathing criticism after Pak slump vs India

India made a remarkable turnaround in the World Cup encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (Oct 14). The architect-in-chief to engineer Pakistan's downfall was Kuldeep Yadav who first bowled alongside Ravindra Jadeja to apply the breaks before tearing the Pakistan middle-order apart.&nbsp;

Speaking to broadcasters after the first innings, Kuldeep said the Indian bowlers focused on varying their pace as the wicket was playing slow which handcuffed the Pakistani batters.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"The wicket was a bit slow. We were focusing on the length. They were not attacking too much so I was just focusing on my pace and my variations," said Kuldeep.&nbsp;

Despite being granted the opportunity to bat first by India on a wicket that was excessively flat, the Pakistani batters never really looked to cash in on it. Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan played&nbsp;rather conservative&nbsp;innings which allowed India to get back into the contest after only taking two wickets in the first 30 overs.&nbsp;

"I was bowling very well. Not too much width because of the field restrictions. They weren't trying too much. Rizwan didn't sweep me a lot so I wanted to make him play the bad shot. I've been watching Saud Shakeel the last couple of games and he'd been trying to sweep a lot. He thought that ball was slow but it skidded on," added Kuldeep.&nbsp;

"Unbelievable to play in front of this crowd. This atmosphere is crazy, playing against Pakistan and seeing close to 90,000 people here."

Apart from Kuldeep, it was Jasprit Bumrah who kept the Pakistani batters in their tracks, before landing the sucker-punches. Later, for India, skipper Rohit Sharma batted the Pakistani bowlers out of the contest.&nbsp;

World Cup 2023, Ind vs Pak: Kuldeep Yadav reveals why Pakistani batters faltered against him

In what turned out to be a one-sided contest in the end, India thumped Pakistan in fine fashion in front of a capacity crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (Oct 14) evening. World Cup 2023: 'Too easy for us', Fans react as India thump Pakistan yet again

India beat Afghanistan by eight wickets in pursuit of 273 in match 9 of the ICC ODI World Cup&nbsp;2023 edition on Wednesday (Oct 11) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. After losing the toss, India were asked to bowl first and rode on Jasprit Bumrah's 4 for 39, on a pitch akin for batters, as Afghanistan posted a healthy 272 for 8. The Afghans rode on their skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi's 80 and&nbsp;Azmatullah Omarzai (61) but could have scored much more, even more than 300, but Bumrah restricted the opposition with some stunning bowling and regular breakthroughs.

In reply, India completed the run-chase in a jiffy courtesy of Rohit Sharma's sublime 131 and Virat Kohli's 55 not out. Rohit ended as the Player-of-the-Match for his berserk knock, coming off 84 balls, but many also lauded Bumrah for his stellar show with the ball.

After the match, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan, speaking to Star Sports, said, "You won't get a better bowler than him in the entire world. If you focus on his action, you will come to know how he uses his variations. He first sets up the batters with inswing, creates a cluster, and then bowls outswing without any change in action and deceives the batters."

"A bowler who bowls at 140 kph, inswing and outswing at one spot, bouncers, slower ones, yorkers, you won't get anywhere. The angle from which he bowls, his pitch map will be outside the off stump. The ball will come in from there and can go away as well," Irfan further pointed out.

Irfan added, "If you focus on his wrists and seam position, the seam position is towards fine leg when he bowls inswing and towards slip when he bowls outswing. There is no change in action, just the wrist's control and balance. This is praiseworthy bowling and it is impossible for the batter to pick it at a speed of 140 kph."

Bumrah ended with his best figures in an ODI World Cup match during the Afghanistan face-off in the national capital. Ever since his international comeback, following a lengthy injury layoff, he has been among wickets in every game and will like to continue in a similar manner going ahead in India's CWC 2023 campaign.

India will next face arch-rivals Pakistan in match 12 of CWC 2023 edition on Saturday (Oct 14) in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

India beat Afghanistan by eight wickets in pursuit of 273 in match 9 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition on Wednesday (Oct 11) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

India beat Afghanistan by eight wickets in pursuit of 273 in match 9 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition on Wednesday (Oct 11) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. After losing the toss, India were asked to bowl first and rode on Jasprit Bumrah's 4 for 39, on a pitch akin for batters, as Afghanistan posted a healthy 272 for 8. The Afghans rode on their skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi's 80 and Azmatullah Omarzai (61) but could have scored much more, even more than 300, but Bumrah restricted the opposition with some stunning bowling and regular breakthroughs. He first sets up the batters with inswing, creates a cluster, and then bowls outswing without any change in action and deceives the batters." "A bowler who bowls at 140 kph, inswing and outswing at one spot, bouncers, slower ones, yorkers, you won't get anywhere. The angle from which he bowls, his pitch map will be outside the off stump. The ball will come in from there and can go away as well," Irfan further pointed out. Also read: CWC '23: 'Rohit is an ODI beast, does not...'- Chopra HAILS Hitman after India's easy win vs Afghanistan Irfan added, "If you focus on his wrists and seam position, the seam position is towards fine leg when he bowls inswing and towards slip when he bowls outswing. There is no change in action, just the wrist's control and balance. This is praiseworthy bowling and it is impossible for the batter to pick it at a speed of 140 kph." Bumrah ended with his best figures in an ODI World Cup match during the Afghanistan face-off in the national capital. Ever since his international comeback, following a lengthy injury layoff, he has been among wickets in every game and will like to continue in a similar manner going ahead in India's CWC 2023 campaign. India will next face arch-rivals Pakistan in match 12 of CWC 2023 edition on Saturday (Oct 14) in Ahmedabad. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. CWC '23: 'Won't get a better bowler than Jasprit Bumrah' - Irfan Pathan in awe of India pacer

For those who know and those who don’t, India leads Pakistan 7-0 in the Cricket World Cup history, with the eighth match scheduled to get underway at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (Oct 14). While history favours India heading into this marquee clash, Pakistan Captain and star batter Babar Azam feels the streaks are meant to be broken, and his team could create history by winning this match, upsetting over 100,000 fans inside the stadium.

Speaking to the media on the eve of the most-talked-about cricket match in this World Cup between India and Pakistan, Babar said whatever happened in the past cannot be changed, but his team can change what’s ahead of them.&nbsp;

Admitting to not worrying too much about this high-pressure game, Babar said his team would give their best on the field, leaving it to their efforts and God to yield them the desired result.

"I believe there is no point focusing on whatever has happened in the past. I believe we need to focus on what is ahead of us," Babar told media personnel ahead of the India-Pakistan match.&nbsp;

"All these streaks are made to be broken. God willing, we will try to give our best tomorrow. Anything can happen on the day. I fully believe my team has done well in the first three matches, and will continue doing so in the coming matches," he added.

<h2>‘Playing in front of large crowd is an opportunity and not pressure’</h2>

Having spoken earlier about playing under pressure in front of over 100,000 people at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, Babar said he and his team look at this as an opportunity.&nbsp;

Claiming to have felt crowd pressure of this magnitude before (a reference to playing at the MCG in Australia), the ranked number one ODI batter expects the spectators to support his team as well during this match.

"This is not pressure," Babar said.&nbsp;

"We have played in front of large crowds before. MCG and all the big stadiums. Yes, this is also a big stadium. And yes, Ahmedabad will be mostly blue. If Pakistan fans had been allowed, they would have loved to support us. But when we entered Hyderabad, we saw a lot of supporters of the Pakistan team. I expect the same, and we are looking forward to the match."

The match will begin at 2 pm IST.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, a star-studded ceremony before the start of the game will also take place at the stadium, with several musicians and top names from the Bollywood industry gracing the occasion with their presence.

The match will be broadcast on Star Sports network on TV and Hotstar online.

All streaks are meant to be broken: Babar Azam shrugs off past records ahead of India-Pakistan World Cup tie

England are the defending World Champions and entered this tournament with a badge of being the favourites to reclaim the top prize. However, to realise this dream, they must walk over a few tough teams in this competition, with hosts India being their biggest threat. Although this match is scheduled on a later date - Sunday (Oct 29), England seamer and a CWC winner, Chris Woakes, has sent warning signs of knocking India ‘off their perch’ to stand tall in the end.

New Zealand crushed England by eight wickets in the World Cup opener, but they found their way back by beating Bangladesh in their next match in Dharamsala.&nbsp;

Commenting on the prospect of winning back-to-back World Cups, Woakes admitted the subcontinent sides feel more at home playing in India than the ones from other continents.&nbsp;

Woakes added with each passing game, the competition would get tough for each team, but England would take one game at a time and peak as the tournament progressed, something Woakes, in particular, has done quite a few times in the past.

"It's an incredibly tough challenge to win in India. Naturally, I think the sub-continental teams will feel more at home with the conditions," Woakes said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

"That makes it extremely hard for us to knock them off their perch, so to speak. But we've got the squad and the players to be able to compete. People have looked at us for a while, and we've had a little bit of a target on our back as a white-ball team, around the world.

"It's a tough competition to win, isn't it? Especially here. But we'll give it a good crack. We're taking it each game as it comes. Naturally, people have got expectations of us, and we've certainly got our own expectations of ourselves,” the right-handed seamer added.

<h2>‘Would’ve liked to bowl a bit better’</h2>

Having gone wicketless in the World Cup opener against New Zealand, conceding 45 runs from six overs, Woakes returned to his best against Bangladesh, picking two wickets, including those of Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.&nbsp;

Aware of his below-par show so far in this tournament, Woakes admits he should have bowled better.&nbsp;

However, with him liking to peak at the right time, the veteran seamer is sure of contributing with more wickets.

"It's the start of a long tournament," Woakes said. "I certainly feel that I would've liked to have bowled a little bit better, but they are long competitions, and you don't want to peak too soon, I suppose.

"I have built into tournaments in the past and into series, which I suppose holds me in good stead moving forward. But you contribute every time you go out in the field, so I'll be working hard in practice to try and make sure that I'm on the money when I get the opportunity,” he added.

Meanwhile, England’s next game is against Afghanistan on Sunday (Oct 15) in Delhi.

World Cup: Winning in India is tough but we aim to knock hosts ‘off their perch’, warns England seamer

The mother of all clashes – India vs Pakistan is finally upon us. Two heavyweights in world cricket, the two Asian giants are up against each other for the first time in World Cup 2023. The Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the marquee clash on Saturday (Oct 14) as the world awaits the drama that unfolds.&nbsp;

Here is the preview and result prediction of the India vs Pakistan World Cup 2023 game.

<h2>India ready to better CWC record tally</h2>

India currently leads Pakistan 7-0 in the Cricket World Cup history, having previously beaten them in the last edition (in 2019 in England). The Men in Blue fared well against their arch-rivals in their previous outings (once during the Asia Cup 2023), beating them in the Super Four stage by 228 runs.

Coming off fresh from twin wins in two matches in this World Cup 2023, beating Australia and Afghanistan, respectively, India will hold an upper hand heading into this high-octane encounter in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

Although it’s unclear if Shubman Gill will play or not as he recovers from the dengue fever, India is likely to opt for the same batting order, with Captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan opening the innings. The middle order will look the same, but it’s the bowling department where the fans can see a change happening.

It would be a toss-up between Ravi Ashwin and Shardul Thakur for the number eight spot, and going by boundary dimensions and how the Ahmedabad pitch could fare, India could be tempted to bring in experienced Ashwin for this match.

<h3>Pakistan to cause worry? Possible!</h3>

Pakistan hasn’t beaten India across seven outings in this tournament, but given how they succeeded in chasing the highest team total in World Cup history, discounting them in this match would be a mistake.

In Abdullah Shafique, Pakistan has a reliable opener,&nbsp;captain Babar Azam is yet to fire in this CWC, while Muhammad Rizwan is their batter to look out for.&nbsp;

Considering the middle order of both teams hasn’t been tested enough yet, the onus would fall on them in this clash.

Pakistan’s bowling is their go-to department, and in the absence of dynamite Naseem Shah, Hasan Ali has filled in his shoes, performing against Sri Lanka by picking four wickets. Alongside him, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf will hold the key in this game.

Result Prediction -

This India vs Pakistan World Cup match guarantees to be an exciting affair, with both teams giving their best to come on top. However, with crowd support and given their recent run of form, India will start as favourites in this match.

Predicted XIs –

India – Rohit Sharma (captain), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah&nbsp;

Pakistan – Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (captain), Muhammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf

India vs Pakistan, World Cup 2023: Match preview and result prediction

Rohit Sharma-led India opened their campaign in the ongoing home ODI World Cup with a comfortable win over five-time winners Australia in match 5 on Sunday (Oct 8) in Chennai. Chasing 200, India were 2 for 3 before Virat Kohli's 85 and KL Rahul's sublime 97* took India home with six wickets, and 52 balls, to spare.&nbsp;

Ahead of India's second game, where they lock&nbsp;horns with Afghanistan in New Delhi on Wednesday (Oct 11), former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh opened up on India's middle-order and made a big claim.

In the last World Cup, held in England and Wales in 2019, there was immense talk on India's middle-order -- especially who will bat at No. 4. Their shaky middle and lower order resulted in their semi-final loss versus New Zealand.

This time around, India had a lot of time finalising their middle order (due to several injuries) but now have a settled line-up.

However, Yuvraj feels Kohli and Rahul have handled the bulk of scoring as No. 6 and No. 7 have not been tested yet.&nbsp;

Responding to WION&nbsp;during a presser&nbsp;in the national capital on Tuesday (Oct 10), Yuvi said on the middle-order, "I thought they were playing well in 2019 but pressure came in the big game (in the semi-finals). Pressure will come in big games only."

He opined, "I don't think the middle order has been tested properly so far. Virat bats at 3 and KL bats at 5. Batting hasn't come at 6 and 7. So others have not been tested. We need to absorb the pressure really well."

Yuvraj, along with Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag, was present for an event (by EO Gurgaon) held primarily to recall India's 2011 World Cup triumph.

<h2>JADEJA TO WIN POTT IN CWC '23?</h2>

Later in the event, Yuvraj was asked by a fan who could replicate his CWC '11 performance, where he ended as the Player of the Tournament, and win the big prize this time around. To this, the veteran named Ravindra Jadeja.&nbsp;

While the superstar cricketer named Rohit, Kohli, Shubman Gill (who is currently unwell) and Hardik Pandya as well, he finally went with Jadeja.

Yuvraj feels Jadeja's spin will be handy, which was the case versus Australia where he ended with 3 for 28. Jadeja's batting lower down the order will also be crucial to India's chances.&nbsp;

At present, India are up against Afghanistan and have lost the toss. Afghanistan have opted to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.&nbsp;

Ashwin will fight till the last delivery: Tendulkar lauds star player's attitude and approach towards game

Things aren't bright for Team India star opener Shubman Gill. Having missed India's CWC 2023 opener versus Australia, due to dengue, the batter remained in Chennai as Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. reached New Delhi on Monday (Oct&nbsp;9) for their upcoming clash versus Afghanistan on Wednesday (Oct 11).

It is to be noted that Gill was hospitalised in Chennai after his platelet count dropped. The young batter was&nbsp;discharged&nbsp;on Tuesday&nbsp;morning (Oct&nbsp;10),&nbsp;as per the news agency&nbsp;PTI.

On Monday, the&nbsp;Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Gill is closely being monitored by the&nbsp;medical team but remains&nbsp;out of the Afghanistan clash.

"Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October."

"He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team," read the statement from BCCI.

Gill's absence is a huge blow for Team India. The 24-year-old has been in exceptional form for the last year, especially in ODIs. In 2023, he has been on a run-scoring spree and has five centuries in the ODI format. Gill was in fine form in the Asia Cup, with a sublime 121&nbsp;versus Bangladesh, and ended with the Player-of-the-Series award in India's 2-1 win over Australia in three home ODIs before the World Cup.

In his absence, India were tottering at 2 for 3 in pursuit of 200 versus the Aussies in match 5 of CWC 2023 on Sunday (Oct&nbsp;8). Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97 not out) ensured India went past the finish line with six wickets&nbsp;and 52 balls to spare in Chennai.

Given Gill's condition, he is ruled out of the upcoming India-Pakistan clash&nbsp;on October 14&nbsp;in Ahmedabad. An official announcement can be expected in the coming days.

CWC 2023: India batter Shubman Gill discharged from Chennai hospital, unlikely to play vs Pakistan - Report

After an absence of 128 years, cricket is set to return to the Olympics. According to a Guardian report, cricket has been included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics - marking a tectonic shift in the history of the sport.

After an absence of 128 years, cricket is set to return to the Olympics. According to a Guardian report, cricket has been included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics - marking a tectonic shift in the history of the sport. Apart from cricket, other sports such as flag football, baseball and softball have also found space in the quadrennial event. The LA organising committee, responsible for choosing the sporting disciplines, is expected to go public with the decision in the next 24 hours before making it official at the 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) session scheduled to take place in Mumbai on Sunday. "LA28's proposed sports ignite the imagination on the field of play and drive culture off it. They're relevant, innovative and community-based, played in backyards, schoolyards, community centres, stadiums and parks across the US and the globe," said Casey Wasserman, LA28's chairperson, in a media release on Monday (Oct 9). This will be the first time since the Paris Olympics in 1900 that cricket will find space in the Olympics. At the time, the match was played between Great Britain, represented by Devon and Somerset Wanderers, and France, with the former registering a 185-run victory in a 12-a-side match. The choice of format will be T20 and both men's and women's tournaments will open up in the city. Although the qualification system is not clear yet, a previous report claimed that the top five ranked teams will make the cut for the tournament. Also read | Saudi Arabia takes formal step to host 2034 World Cup, submits letter of intent to FIFA ICC stops with the gatekeeping The inclusion of cricket in the mega-event suggests that ICC - the governing body of cricket globally, had finally evolved to expand the game. For years, ICC had been accused of gatekeeping the sport despite its immense popularity across the globe. Moreover, it points to the growing appetite of the IOC to tap the Indian market and its huge financial prowess. Cricket is incredibly popular in India as well as the subcontinent and the Indian Premier League (IPL) often rivals other sporting events. Currently, the Olympic broadcast rights in India for individual sports are reported to be worth just $20 million. However, with the inclusion of cricket, and a number of guaranteed matches of India, the figure could easily rise to $183 million, a report claimed. The inclusion of cricket comes in the background of Major League Cricket being introduced in the USA, earlier this year. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:
