<p>India pacer Mohammed Siraj broke the bails during the ODI World Cup 2023 match on November 4 as he clean bowled Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis in the fourth over of the chase. Siraj had already taken two wickets in his first and innings' second over to leave Sri Lanka reeling at three down for two runs before accounting for Mendis.</p>

<p>Mendis had struggled to score one run off nine balls before Siraj cleaned him up. Bowling wide of the crease, Siraj bowled with the angle but the ball straightened up at the last moment to leave Mendis in splits and hitting the top of the off stump. <p>Before Siraj and Shami, it was Jasprit Bumrah who started a meltdown of Sri Lanka's batting with a wicket on the first ball of the Lankan innings, trapping Pathum Nissanka for a golden duck. India's bowling was so lethal that Sri Lanka's top five batters could score only two runs in total as they slumped to six down for 14 and seven for 22 before the end of the 12th over.</p>

<p>Earlier, India were asked to bat first after losing the toss in Mumbai. Sri Lanka had a great start as Dilshan Madushanka, who took a five-for, sent back skipper Rohit Sharma on the second ball of the match. Virat Kohli (88) and Shubman Gill (92) then added 188 runs for the second wicket as India came back strongly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from Kohli and Gill, Shreyas Iyer also scored 82 as India posted a huge total of 358/7 in 50 overs before winning the game by 302 runs. With their seventh win on the trot, India became the first team to qualify for the semifinals in the ODI World Cup 2023.</p>

<p>Van der Dussen, asked during a pre-match press conference in Pune on Tuesday if&nbsp;South&nbsp;Africa&nbsp;were indeed carrying any "baggage", replied: "No, I suppose it's about just acknowledging and accepting it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"After that Dutch game, we took a lot of flak from back home and certainly in the media as well. There's no use in delving too much into it. You've just got to accept it and move on."</p>

<h2>- 'Place of hurt' -&nbsp;</h2>

<p>The 34-year-old batsman added: "You realise that there's people at home and fans that have been really scarred by the previous performances of&nbsp;South&nbsp;Africa&nbsp;at World Cups.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"You can't really criticise them for feeling that way, for the criticism to come from, I suppose, a place of hurt where they've seen that movie before."</p>

<p>Even so, he insisted: "But personally, and I think it goes for probably most of the people in our squad and management team, that we haven't lived that.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"So, it's not really applicable to us."</p>

<p>Coming up to date, he said the Pakistan match was a positive as "we didn't play our best cricket at all, especially from a batting sense, and we still managed to get a win".</p>

<p>Wednesday's match takes place just days after&nbsp;South&nbsp;Africa's Springboks defeated their arch-rivals, New Zealand's All Blacks 12-11 to win a tense Rugby World Cup final in Paris.</p>

<p>Victory gave the Springboks, who won all three of their knockout matches by just a one-point margin, a fourth World Cup title.</p>

<p>"We take massive inspiration from them," said Van der Dussen.</p>

<p>"We know a lot of those players personally as well...And I think the real realisation for us is that we're no different.&nbsp;</p>

But we're realistic. We have not been the best in the world as yet, which highlights where we are in this tournament right now. We have no divine right to beat anyone in this tournament. We have to play quality cricket, and we have to put all three departments of our game together."</p>

<p>Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was on fire against England in ODI World Cup 2023 in Lucknow as India romped home with a 100-run win for their sixth victory on the trot in the tournament. The India pacer, who was playing only his second game of the tournament, was particularly lethal against Ben Stokes. Shami bowled 10 balls to Stokes, conceded no run and then dismissed the batter as well.</p>

<p>New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra is having a dream ODI World Cup 2023 with over 400 runs to his name already. The Kiwi batter amazed the fans with century in the first game of the tournament itself where his 123 helped the Blackcaps beat defending champions England.</p>

<p>The left-hand batter played another masterful innings against Australia on October 28 in Dharamsala as his 89-ball 116 almost got New Zealand over the 389-run target. While the Kiwis lost the game by five runs, Ravindra was happy to contribute.</p>

<p>“I guess you probably look at it, at the start I would be obviously very grateful to be here and how things have worked out," Ravindra said after the game.</p>

<p>“We're in a position as a team to hopefully push on and keep winning games and I guess individually it’s runs for the team so I'm happy to be able to contribute.”</p>

<p>“As a kid you always dream of the crowd chanting your name and it was cool to see them do that on multiple occasions, even when Aussie were batting, and then when Neesh (Neesham) did his thing at the end.</p>

<p>“I think it's always special, you sort of soak in those moments and hopefully we never really take them for granted,” he said.</p>

<p>On being asked if it was special to perform and score runs before Indians fans, the batter said that he's proud of his heritage but he's 100% Kiwi.</p>

<p>“I've been asked this question a lot, but I guess I'm 100% Kiwi and I'm also very proud of my Indian heritage. But I guess it's that I’m proud to be able to do it in the country where my parents were born and where they grew up and where a lot of my family is," Ravindra said.</p>

The Men in Green have been fined 20 per cent of their match fees after being found four-over short in the stipulated time to complete the overs.</p>

<p>As per the ICC Code of Conduct, the players are liable for five per cent cut of their match fee for every over short and hence the 20 per cent fine for the Pakistan team. <p>India batter KL Rahul says it'll be 'bittersweet' for him when he steps on the field against England in Lucknow on October 29 in ODI World Cup 2023. This is the same ground where Rahul had injured himself in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match earlier this year. The batter subsequently was ruled out of the remainder of IPL in which he plays for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), World Test Championship and the Caribbean tour which followed after.</p>

<p>The batter then made a return to the side in Asia Cup 2023 and instantly showed why he's regarded such a important player &nbsp;for India. Speaking ahead of of the England match, Rahul told BCCI.tv that stepping on the ground got his heartrate faster because of his last experience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I entered the ground today and I had to do some running," Rahul said. "I told my trainer, Rajini sir [Rajinikanth Sivagnanam] that my heart is racing, because the last time I was here, I had not such a great experience, or not such a great moment in my career. It was a bit bittersweet."</p>

It's not a great feeling for any athlete to keep getting injured so often and to go under the knife and to get surgeries is very, firstly, edifying - and, secondly, very painful," he added.</p>

<p>The batter, who is also India's wicketkeeper in the ODI World Cup 2023 due to an injury to Rishabh Pant, said that most painful part of the injury was rehab.</p>

<p>"The most painful part is doing the rehab after that and trying to get fitter and stronger, and convincing yourself that it's not going to happen again. It's mentally very, very challenging. When it happened, it was obviously frustrating. I was very angry at what had happened and started questioning why and all of that."</p>

<p>"But I started seeing the best in what happened much later when I was in Bangalore, and realised that it came at a time when I really needed that break away from the game, because there was a lot going on with me mentally - and, for the first time in my career, I felt like I had no answers," he added.</p>

<p>India are currently on a roll in the ODI World Cup 2023 with five wins in five games and will aim to continue it against England.</p>

<p>Australia's Travis Head played his first game in the ODI World Cup 2023 against New Zealand on October 28 and showed why he was selected in the squad despite being injured. Head had fractured his hand in the ODI series against South Africa before the ODI World Cup but Australia still banked on him.</p>

<p>The batter opened the innings right away for the Aussies, and scored a scintillating hundred off just 59 balls as he added 175 runs for the first wicket with David Warner, who also scored 81 off 65 balls. The duo took the game away from New Zealand in the first 10 overs itself, scoring 118 runs - second most in an ODI World Cup match after West Indies' 119 against Canada in 2003 edition.</p>

<p>Head struck 10 fours and seven sixes in his innings before getting out for 109 runs off 67 balls. Head didn't spare any New Zealand bowler but was especially severe on Matt Henry. The Aussie opener hit Henry for 27 runs in 15 balls he faced including three sixes and two fours.</p>

<p>Head also took apart Trent Boult, hitting him for 19 runs in 10 balls with three fours and one six. Mitch Santner, arguably the best Kiwi bowler, was also taken to cleaners by the southpaw as the left-arm spinner got hit for 19 runs in 11 balls.</p>

<p>All-rounder Rachin Ravindra bowled the most deliveries - 16 - to Head and went for 26 runs. Only Glenn Phillips could restrain the explosive batter, giving away just 11 runs in 12 balls and taking his wicket as well. Apart form these, Head scored rest of his seven runs off Lockie Ferguson's four balls he faced.</p>

<p>Thanks to the blitzkrieg by the openers, Australia were able to impose a huge total of 388 runs in 49.2 over before being bowled out.</p>

South Africa were nine down at the time and needed four runs to win and Maharaj's hit towards the square-leg boundary got them over the line.&nbsp;</p>

<p>South Africa also stuttered in the chase after being 235/5 in 37th over of the match. Pak bowlers bowled their heart out to bring their team in the game and had it not been for an umpire's call in Haris Rauf's last over, they would've won the game.</p>

<p>With four points after two wins and four losses, Pakistan are now at the sixth place on the points table. Their next three ODI World Cup games are against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and England.</p>

<p>Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf took a sensational one-handed stumbling catch in his follow through in last over of his spell against South Africa to take his team on the brink of victory in ODI World Cup 2023. South Africa needed 11 runs in 30 balls with two wickets left in a chase of 271 when Rauf came on to bowl his last over. The pacer bowled two dot balls before taking a wicket on the third ball to tilt things in Pakistan's favour.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pakistan&nbsp;all-rounder Shadab Khan insisted Thursday that his under-performing teammates believe "miracles can happen" as the former champions enter a "do-or-die" battle to rescue their faltering World Cup campaign.</p>

<p>After starting brightly with wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, the 1992 champions have been well beaten by India and Australia before being humiliated by neighbours Afghanistan last time out.</p>

<p>On Friday, they face another test of their resources against free-scoring South Africa who have four wins in five games and have shrugged off their shock loss to the Netherlands.</p>

<p>"We have under-performed in all three departments -- batting, bowling and fielding," said Shadab.</p>

<p>"We have not played good cricket but have bounced back from such situations."</p>

<p>With four group games to play,&nbsp;Pakistan&nbsp;can still make the semi-finals but there is little margin for error.</p>

<p>However, as well as victory on Friday, they also need to improve their -0.40 net run-rate which could prove to be the tie-breaker in the race for semi-final spots.</p>

<p>"If you have belief, miracles happen," said Shadab, the deputy to skipper Babar Azam.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We have not played like we were playing before the World Cup but from tomorrow we have to start a winning streak."</p>

<p>He added: "When you are in a do-or-die position then I think the pressure is less because you have nothing to lose."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shadab has been one of many in the&nbsp;Pakistan&nbsp;squad who has yet to fully fire.</p>

<p>The 25-year-old leg-spinner has just two wickets at 90.00 and scored 74 runs in three outings.</p>

<p>He was dropped for the match with Australia before being recalled to face Afghanistan.</p>

<p>"When you don't do well the criticism is valid but there are ups and downs in a player's performance so I am confident that I will improve," said Shadab who scored 40 in the losing cause against Afghanistan.</p>

<p>Shadab insists the shock eight-wicket defeat to Afghanistan in a game also played at Chennai is now behind them.</p>

<p>Victory, he insists, will hopefully quieten the criticism which has grown steadily since the eighth loss in eight World Cup meetings to India.</p>

<p>"I always tell the players that if you are going to a tournament like this, you have to cut off from the social media," said Shadab.</p>

<p>"If you perform then everyone says that 'he is doing so well', but when you are not performing then the same people will say 'he is not good enough'."</p>

<p>He added: "It's the mentality that when someone is not in the team, then they are the best and when someone is in the team they are the worst."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, fast bowler Hasan Ali has become the latest&nbsp;Pakistan&nbsp;player to fall ill and will miss Friday's game.</p>

<p>"Hasan is unavailable for the game against South Africa," said a&nbsp;Pakistan&nbsp;Cricket Board statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"He is recovering well and will be given rest to recover ahead of the remaining games.</p>

<p>The loss against Sri Lanka was England's fourth in five games, leaving them second-last on the points table, just above the Netherlands. England have previously lost to New Zealand in the tournament opener before taking a thrashing from Afghanistan and South Africa as well.&nbsp;</p>

Thanks to the innings, Australia posted a huge total of 399/7 in 50 overs, which proved 309 more than what the Dutch eventually proved to be capable of.</p>

<p>Speaking at the press conference after the game, Maxwell said that he was well aware of the fastest 100 record while batting and that they (fastest 50 and 100) are pretty cool records to get to.</p>

<p>"I'm very aware of them," Maxwell said. "I'm very aware of balls faced. I love the fastest 50, fastest 100 records. I think they're pretty cool records. Sometimes to the detriment of myself, I've always probably pushed the boundaries a bit too much.</p>

The batter agreed that he was a bit eager in that game to go out bat and paid the price.</p>

"We talked about over-arousal levels and I probably reached double maximum [against Pakistan] if you couldn't tell. But I was a little bit more chilled when I got out there. I didn't have many high hopes. I've been pretty cooked the last couple of days."</p>
