T20 World Cup 2022: Kohli, Arshdeep help India beat Bangladesh by 5 runs in rain-affected thriller

Virat Kohli added another feather to his illustrious cap in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday (November 02) as he became the highest run-getter in the history of the tournament. Kohli continued his sensational run with the willow as he notched up his third fifty in four games during India's Super 12 clash against Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval.

Kohli scored an unbeaten 64 off 44 deliveries to help India post a strong total of 184 runs on the board and go past Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene in the list of highest run-getters in T20 World Cup history. Kohli now has 1065 runs in 25 matches in T20 World Cups at a brilliant average of 88.75 and a strike rate of over 132.

Kohli needed just 16 runs to surpass Jayawardene in India's clash against Bangladesh and the batting maestro once again looked in sublime control throughout his innings as he notched up his third fifty in the tournament. Kohli has now scored a staggering 13 half-centuries in the T20 World Cup and has arguably been the most prolific run-getter in the tournament over the years.

Lauding him for his incredible consistency, former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson called Kohli a 'freak' and said his numbers in the T20 World Cup are 'ridiculous'. Watson said he was unable to wrap his around Kohli's numbers despite T20s being a high-risk, high-reward format for batters.

"Over 1000 runs in T20 World Cups at an average of over 80, I am not able to get my head around this. T20 cricket is a high-risk game, high-risk batting and to think that he can do it at the biggest tournament, averaging so much and winning so many games for his country… he is a freak and those statistics are super freakish. It’s incredible that you can bat in such a high-risk format and score consistently. It’s ridiculous," Watson said during commentary on Star Sports.

Kohli has silenced all his doubters with his purple patch in the ongoing T20 World Cup. There were concerns surrounding his form with many even questioning his spot in the T20 squad in the build-up to the showpiece event in Australia. However, Kohli has managed to answer his critics in style with some remarkable performances so far.

With the help of his 44-ball 64, India posted 184 runs on the board and would be hoping to defend the total to bounce back to winning ways post their loss against South Africa in their last game.

Virat Kohli breaks Mahela Jayawardene's record, becomes highest run-getter in T20 World Cup history

Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy recently opened up on pay disparity between cricket boards around the world and said love for the game doesn't buy groceries. Sammy, who led West Indies to two T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016, said there is a huge gap when it comes to the salaries of cricketers in different countries around the world.

Sammy said that gone are the days when players used to play for the love of the game before highlighting the staggering gap in payscales of the West Indies compared to their Indian counterparts. While top Indian stars earn a whopping Rs 7 crore (USD 8,45,828 approx) a year, West Indies cricketers make USD 150,000 (Rs 1.2 crore roughly) annually through central contracts.

"Gone are those days when you played for love. Love doesn't buy you groceries from supermarket," said Sammy.

“India is strong because they can tell their players that you don't play anywhere else. You have to understand that they have the money to back it up.

Sammy feels the pay disparity among the cricket boards makes it difficult for the smaller ones to hold on to their players and stop them from plying their trade in different T20 leagues around the globe.

Love for cricket doesn't buy you groceries: Darren Sammy on West Indies cricket's financial woes

KL Rahul will be under the spotlight when India lock horns with Bangladesh in their fourth Super 12 clash in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday. Rahul has not enjoyed the best of campaigns in the tournament so far and has struggled to score runs consistently.

The stylish right-hander has so far managed only 22 runs in India's first three matches and has looked far from his best. However, he will be hoping to spark a turnaround when India take on Bangladesh in the all-important game on Wednesday. A win will all but confirm India's spot in the semi-finals.

Sharing his two cents on Rahul's current lean patch, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar said the opening batter doesn't seem to believe in himself at present. The former India captain advised Rahul to play freely and go with the intent of bashing the bowlers which will help him gain some confidence.

"Every time I see Rahul not scoring runs, I get the impression, he does not actually know the kind of ability he has. He doesn't seem to believe in himself. He is a fabulous player and has loads of ability. He's got to start saying 'I'm gonna go and knock the stuffing out of the ball'. He's got to have that kind of attitude. I want him to swagger. It will make a whole difference," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

Senior India batter Virat Kohli spent some time with Rahul in the nets during India's practice session ahead of the Bangladesh clash on Tuesday and was seen sharing valuable advice with the opening batter. Kohli has been in terrific form in the T20 World Cup so far and has been scoring runs consistently.

Gavaskar believes it was a great gesture from Kohli to help Rahul out during his lean patch as there is no one better to guide him in the Indian team.

"He's (Kohli) the senior player, has bags of runs in every format, this has been his favourite ground, and he'll be able to tell him what to do. I think he was trying to say that the ball outside off stump could cause trouble to anybody early in the innings when you are not certain about your off stump," said Gavaskar.

"You are not certain where the ball is gonna move. You tend to play at deliveries which you would otherwise leave and in this format, you can't afford to leave deliveries. He's got out a couple of times dragging the ball onto his stumps, at Perth, the extra bounce did him but he's a class act, let's not forget that," he added.

T20 World Cup: Netherlands beat Zimbabwe by five wickets to dent their semi-final hopes

India head coach Rahul Dravid said it was disappointing and not a comfortable situation for anyone to be in after a video of Virat Kohli's personal room from his hotel room got leaked on social media. Kohli took to Instagram on Monday to share a video filmed inside his room and lashed out at the breach of his privacy.

The incident happened during India's stay at their team hotel in Perth in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Sharing the video on his Instagram, Kohli said it made him feel 'paranoid' about his privacy and that he didn't appreciate such kind of fanaticism.

His post soon went viral, sparking outrage on social media as the cricket fraternity rallied behind the senior India batter. Crown Resorts, the hotel where the incident happened, released a statement confirming that they have laid off the staff involved and the video has also been taken down from their social media accounts.

India head coach Rahul Dravid said it was disappointing and not a comfortable situation for anyone to be in after a video of Virat Kohli's personal room from his hotel room got leaked on social media.

We are not here to win the World Cup, will try to upset 'favourites' India: Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has backed the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team to make it to the final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. India are currently at the second spot in Group 2 points table after two wins and a loss in their first three Super 12 clashes.

The Men in Blue kicked off the tournament in style with a thrilling win against arch-rivals Pakistan in their opener before beating Netherlands comprehensively in their next game. They slipped up against South Africa in their last outing to suffer their first defeat in the tournament.

"India only lost one match. India will qualify. Everyone is doing good. India will qualify, I hope. I am hopeful that India will play finals. Let them qualify, after that they will play last two games. That can be anyone's game," Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi was only 16 when he made his debut in international cricket for his country. Known for his six-hitting prowess and incredible all-round abilities, Afridi went on to retire as one of the legends of Pakistan cricket. He captained the team during his career and was part of the team that won the T20 World Cup title in 2009.

Afridi played with several yesteryear greats of Pakistan cricket during the initial phase of his career. He also shared the dressing room with both Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, two of the greatest fast bowlers to have played for Pakistan. Recently, Waqar recalled an interesting anecdote involving Afridi.

Speaking during a discussion on Pakistan's A Sports, Waqar recalled how Afridi once left an Indian minister in some discomfort with his firm handshake. Waqar revealed Afridi was strong for someone who was only 16 at the time of his debut and had a very firm handshake, often squeezing other's hands.

T20 World Cup, India vs Bangladesh weather report: Can rain impact Rohit Sharma & Co.'s semi-final chances?

Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid played down concerns regarding opening batter KL Rahul's form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 and said the team management can afford to give him time to get going in the tournament. Rahul has not enjoyed a great campaign in the tournament so far with only 22 runs in three matches.

However, head coach Dravid expressed full confidence in his abilities and said he has the backing of the team management. Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of India's next Super 12 clash against Bangladesh, Dravid said Rahul has been batting well in the nets and just needs to find his rhythm in the next couple of matches.

"No, not at all (his technique, and mindset bothering you?). He is a fantastic player, he has got a proven track record. He is batting superbly (at the nets). And these things can happen. In a T20 game, it's been tough. It's not been easy for top-order batters in this T20 World Cup. The ball has been doing a bit," said Dravid on Rahul's lean patch.

The Indian opener has looked far from his best in the tournament so far and is yet to notch up a score in double digits. He has flopped in India's all three games against Pakistan, Netherlands, and South Africa with questions also being raised over his strike rate.

Amid his poor form, fans on social media have backed Rishabh Pant to open with captain Rohit Sharma at the top and get some opportunities in the playing XI in Australia. However, Rahul is unlikely to be dropped as Dravid and the team management are firmly behind him, well aware that he has the quality to master conditions in Australia.

"I thought he was superb in the practice game against Australia, against the likes of Mitchell Starc and Patrick Cummins and it was a pretty good attack and he batted superbly on that day. He is actually playing really well, I just hope it all clicks together in the next couple of games. We all know his quality, we all know his ability. He is really suited to these kinds of conditions, these kinds of pitches. He has got a good all-round game, good backfoot game, which is very essential in these conditions. We are pretty happy with the way he is hitting it," said Dravid.

"In these conditions, we are able to afford him that time. We have no concerns about him, we completely back him. When he gets going, I know the impact this guy can make," he added.

Rahul will be looking to spark a turnaround with the bat when India take on Bangladesh in their 4th Super 12 match on Wednesday (November 02). 'Hope you are watching...': Prithvi Shaw shares cryptic post after being snubbed from India's squad

The legendary Sunil Gavaskar believes not playing smart cricket cost India their Super 12 clash against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). India lost a low-scoring thriller against the Proteas by five wickets in Perth after failing to defend a total of 133 runs.

While India's batting line-up crumbled on a tricky wicket in Perth, their fielding also failed to impress with several missed opportunities during South Africa's run-chase. Virat Kohli dropped a sitter to hand Aiden Markram a reprieve before captain Rohit Sharma missed an easy run-out chance.

Despite getting off to a brilliant start with the ball, India failed to capitalise as Markram and David Miller slammed half-centuries apiece to take South Africa home. Gavaskar insisted fielding was not the major reason behind India's loss as he pointed out at the lack of smart cricket by the Men in Blue.

"I think, in cricket, you are going to have situations where catches are going to be dropped, run-out opportunities missed. What you really going to see is that we didn't score enough runs. On a pitch like this where there is going to be a little bit of a challenge for battes, I think you have got to play it smartly. I don't think we played smart enough cricket because if you had played smart cricket, we would have had a 150 on the board," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

Also Read: Virat Kohli furious after invasion of privacy in hotel room, says 'I am not okay with this kind of fanaticism'

Gavaskar highlighted how the likes of Deepak Hooda and Dinesh Karthik could have played smartly and tried to settle down in the middle instead of trying to play a big shot early on. While Hooda was dismissed on a duck off just three balls, Karthik got dismissed on 6 off 15 balls trying to take on the bowler.

Their dismissal put extra pressure on Suryakumar Yadav, who was the lone saviour for India after Lungi Ngidi ran through the team's top order. Ngidi picked up a four-wicket haul to ensure the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli among others were all sent back cheaply. Suryakumar played a fantastic knock of 68 runs to help India post a fighting total of 133 runs on the board.

"I have been stressing about playing an extra batter but Deepak Hooda tried to attack in his 3rd delivery when he had Suryakumar Yadav at the other end. He had to play smart cricket," said Gavaskar.

"Similarly, I think, Karthik getting out at that stage. I am not blaming them, I am saying generally saying that apart from Suryakumar Yadav, nobody played the kind of cricket with the experience that they had that would have helped us get those 15-20 runs more," he added.

However, the former India captain insisted there is no need for India to press the panic button yet in the T20 World Cup as they are comfortably placed to qualify for the semi-finals with 4 points after three matches. India have to play Bangladesh and Zimbabwe next and will hope to win both games to ensure they can have a smooth qualification.

"Yes, let's not press the panic button at all. We have 4 points and 2 matches to go. 2 matches against opponents we should be able to win. You should never taken any team lightly, Bangladesh have given us a run for the money in T20Is. So we have to be careful against them, even Zimbabwe, the way they have played in this World Cup, we have to be careful," said Gavaskar.

Also Read: Virat Kohli furious after invasion of privacy in hotel room, says 'I am not okay with this kind of fanaticism' Gavaskar highlighted how the likes of Deepak Hooda and Dinesh Karthik could have played smartly and tried to settle down in the middle instead of trying to play a big shot early on. Also Read: Rohit Sharma rues missed chances against South Africa, says 'we were just not good enough' However, the former India captain insisted there is no need for India to press the panic button yet in the T20 World Cup as they are comfortably placed to qualify for the semi-finals with 4 points after three matches.

'Let's not press the panic button': Sunil Gavaskar after India's loss against South Africa in T20 World Cup

Senior India batter Virat Kohli vented out his frustration on social media after his privacy was invaded in his hotel room in Australia. Kohli is currently in Australia with the rest of the Indian squad for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. The Indian superstar shared a video on social media on Monday (October 31), which appears to have been shot by a fan who somehow managed to get access to his personal room.

While it is not known if the person who filmed inside the Indian cricket star's room was a hotel staff or an outsider, the video certainly didn't go down well with Kohli. The 33-year-old called it an 'absolute invasion of privacy' and said he didn't appreciate such kind of fanaticism where his personal space is not respected.

"I understand that fans get very happy and excited seeing their favourite players and get excited to meet them and I’ve always appreciated that," Kohli wrote.

"But this video here is appalling and it’s made me feel very paranoid about my privacy. If I cannot have privacy in my own hotel room, then where can I really expect any personal space at all?? I’m NOT okay with this kind of fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and not treat them as a commodity for entertainment," he added.

Virat Kohli furious after invasion of privacy in hotel room, says 'I am not okay with this kind of fanaticism'

Australia defeated Ireland by 42 runs in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday (October 31) to move to the second spot on Group 1 points table with five points from four matches. The Aussies successfully defended a total of 179 runs to bag their second win in the tournament and keep their semi-final hopes alive.

Australia rode on a brilliant 63 off 44 balls from captain Aaron Finch to post a strong total on the board after being asked to bat first by Ireland at The Gabba in Brisbane. Marcus Stoinis also made a vital contribution with 35 off 25 deliveries laces with three fours and a solitary six.

Stoinis was brilliantly denied a maximum by Barry McCarthy, who pulled off an outrageous fielding effort to save four runs for his team. The incident happened on the second delivery of the 15th over when Stoinis was facing Mark Adair in the middle.

Stoinis lofted a slower one from the pacer towards long-on and the ball was traveling over the boundary line before being cut short in the air by McCarthy, who produced a stunning effort at long-on. The Ireland all-rounder timed his leap to perfection and caught the ball with his left hand before releasing it just in time to save four runs for his team.

The Perth hotel has taken swift action and suspended the individuals involved after Indian cricket team superstar Virat Kohli complained about a breach of privacy on Monday (October 31). The Perth hotel has taken swift action and suspended the individuals involved after Indian cricket team superstar Virat Kohli complained about a breach of privacy on Monday (October 31). Issuing an apology to Kohli and the Indian cricket team, the hotel said the video has been taken down from the social media handles of the concerned individuals. Kohli took to social media on Monday to express his disappointment after his room was invaded by unknown individuals who filmed inside and posted the video on social media. The former India captain said the video was 'appalling' and made him feel 'paranoid' about his own privacy. After huge outrage from the cricket fraternity, Crown Resorts, the hotel in question where the Indian team stayed in Perth, said it was incredibly disappointed over the incident. The hotel confirmed that all individuals concerned have been stood down and that further investigation is being conducted into the matter. "The safety and privacy of our guests is our number one priority, and we are incredibly disappointed this incident has occurred. We unreservedly apologise to the guest involved and will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure this remains an isolated incident," Crown said in a statement. T20 World Cup 2022 points table: A look at Super 12 standings after India's loss against South Africa

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi came up with a cheeky response to veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra's hilarious dig at current Pakistan skipper Babar Azam over his poor form. Mishra had taken to Twitter on Sunday to aim a potshot at Babar after his flop show in Pakistan's Super 12 clash against Netherlands in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.

Babar was dismissed cheaply on just 4 runs against Netherlands in Perth as his woeful run with the bat continued in the T20 World Cup. Referring to an old tweet he had posted for Virat Kohli during his lean patch earlier this year, Mishra wrote - "This too shall pass. Stay strong @babarazam258."

His tweet soon went viral on social media invoking mixed reactions from fans as Babar had tweeted in support of Kohli, who was at the time receiving criticism from all corners over his poor form. The Pakistan captain's gesture for his Indian counterpart had been lauded by many.

However, Mishra's dig on him in reference to his old tweet didn't go down well with many on social media as many said it was not in good taste. Afridi was asked about Mishra's tweet during a show on Pakistan's Samaa TV. He refused to speak much on it but took a brutal jibe at the Indian spinner.

"Ye jo aap naam le rahe hain Amit Mishra, ye bhi India se khela hua hai. Ye spinner tha ki batsman tha? (This name you’re taking, Amit Mishra, he has also played for India. Was he a spinner or a batsman?)" - Afridi said on Pakistan's Samaa TV.

After being told that Mishra was a spinner, Afridi said - "Koi baat nahi. Chalein aage. This too shall pass. (Don’t worry. Let’s move on)."

Babar has been enduring a lean patch in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 where he is yet to fire for Pakistan. The prolific right-hander has looked completely out of sorts in the first three games of the tournament and has managed only 8 runs in what has been a disastrous campaign for him.

Babar's poor form has also seen Pakistan struggle in the tournament as they have managed only one win in their first three matches. Pakistan lost their opening game against India before suffering a shock defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe in their second Super 12 clash. They bounced back to win their third game against Netherlands on Sunday.

Stay strong @babarazam258." This too shall pass. Stay strong @babarazam258. — Amit Mishra (@MishiAmit) October 30, 2022 × His tweet soon went viral on social media invoking mixed reactions from fans as Babar had tweeted in support of Kohli, who was at the time receiving criticism from all corners over his poor form. The Pakistan captain's gesture for his Indian counterpart had been lauded by many. Let’s move on)." The prolific right-hander has looked completely out of sorts in the first three games of the tournament and has managed only 8 runs in what has been a disastrous campaign for him.

T20 World Cup: Miller, Ngidi help South Africa beat India by 5 wickets to claim top spot in Group 2

Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 68 runs off 40 balls as he turned out to be India's saviour in their Super 12 clash against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). On a day when the Indian batter struggles against the quality Proteas pace attack, Suryakumar continued his red-hot form with the bat.

Opting to bat first, India got off to a woeful start as they lost wickets in quick succession at the top to be left reeing at 49/5 in no time. With half the side back to the dugout, Suryakumar combined with Dinesh Karthik to steady the ship for the Men in Blue as the duo added 52 runs for the sixth wicket.

However, 46 out of those 52 runs were scored by Suryakumar, who single-handedly helped India post a sighting total of 133 runs on the board. En route to his half-century, the star India batter became only the third player to score over 900 runs in T20Is in a calendar year to join Pakistan's Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the elite list.

Rizwan tops the charts when it comes to most runs by a batter in T20Is in a calendar year as he scored 1326 runs in 29 matches last year, including 12 fifties. Babar had amassed 939 runs in 29 matches last year with the help of nine fifties. They are now joined by Suryakumar in the list of batters who have completed 900 runs in a calendar year in the shortest format.

Suryakumar has so far scored 935 runs in 26 matches this year at an average of over 42 and a stunning strike rate of 183.69, including eight half-centuries. Earlier this year, he had broken Virat Kohli's record for most runs by an Indian batter in a calendar year in T20Is.

Suryakumar didn't have an ideal start in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 as he had failed to get going in the opener against Pakistan. However, the star batter bounced back with a quickfire 25-ball 51 against Netherlands and followed it up with another half-century against the Proteas on Sunday.

His 68 off 40 balls was laced with three sixes and six fours as the right-hander displayed great composure and grit throughout his knock while batting under immense pressure. India have managed two wins in their first two games in the tournament and will be hoping to continue their winning streak on Sunday.

Suryakumar didn't have an ideal start in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 as he had failed to get going in the opener against Pakistan.
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir was left surprised by the Indian team's decision to drop all-rounder Axar Patel for Deepak Hooda in the playing for their clash against South Africa in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). After failing to make the cut in the playing XI for India's first two Super 12 matches, Hooda finally made his T20 World Cup debut on Sunday.

Binging in Hooda for Axar was the only change India made in their playing XI from their last win against Netherlands. Gambhir failed to understand the logic behind the selection and asked where did India plan to play Hooda. He also argued if Hooda can be relied upon as India's sixth bowler.

"Ya, it was quite surprising for me. Why would you want to go with a batter when something is working for you. I know Axar has not bowled a lot, but he has bowled four overs in the previous game. India has gone with only 5 main bowlers and Hooda is your sixth bowler. Probably the reason could be that South Africa have a couple of left-handers in their ranks, that is the only reason I can think of," Gambhir said on Star Sports ahead of the start of the game.

Hooda, who made his T20 debut for India earlier this year, showcased exceptional form with the bat to earn a spot in the team's squad for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. However, he had to wait for his chance as India went with Axar as their second all-rounder alongside Hardik Pandya.

While he has been consistent in the anchor's role in the middle and the top order, Gambhir felt India could have gone with a striker of the ball lower down the order instead of playing Hooda. However, he insisted the fact that South Africa have a couple of left-handers in their batting line-up might have prompted the Indian team to select Hooda, who can be a handy leg-spinner.

"But where you are going to play him? Are you going to play him at number 7? He is not someone who can bat at number 7. It is good to depth in your batting, there is nothing wrong in it, but it depends on who you are getting. If the batter is suited for the position, that also matters. And we will have to wait and watch how India fare with a less strong bowling line-up," Gambhir added.

Hooda's selection didn't work out for India as he was dismissed on a duck after coming out to bat at number five against the Proteas on Sunday. On a day when the entire India batting line-up struggled on a tricky wicket in Perth, it was Suryakumar Yadav who turned out to be the team's saviour.

T20 World Cup 2022: Bangladesh edge past Zimbabwe by 3 runs after surviving dramatic last over

Virat Kohli will be on the cusp of achieving an elusive T20 World Cup record when India lock horns with South Africa in their third Super 12 clash in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). Kohli has been in terrific form so far in the tournament and has played an instrumental role in India's back-to-back wins in their first two matches.

Kohli has been enjoying a purple patch with the willow as he has already scored half-centuries in India's first two matches. The batting maestro played a stunning knock of unbeaten 82 to help India earn a thrilling four-wicket win against Pakistan before scoring 62 off 44 balls against Netherlands in India's last outing.

Kohli is now on the cusp of breaking an elusive T20 World Cup record in the upcoming clash against South Africa at the Perth Stadium in Perth. He is just 28 runs short of surpassing Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene to become the leading run-getter in the history of the T20 World Cup.

Kohli currently has 989 runs to his name from 23 matches at the T20 World Cup and needs another 28 runs to go past Jayawardene, who scored 1016 runs from 31 matches in T20 World Cup. Also Read: Team would look complete: Kapil Dev urges India to play Rishabh Pant over Dinesh Karthik vs South Africa Kohli currently has 989 runs to his name from 23 matches at the T20 World Cup and needs another 28 runs to go past Jayawardene, who scored 1016 runs from 31 matches in T20 World Cup. Kohli will also become the first Indian batter to complete 1,000 runs in T20 World Cup if he manages to score 11 runs against South Africa on Sunday. Kohli's 989 runs have come just in 21 innings at a stunning average of 89.90, including as many as 12 fifties. Virat Kohli on cusp of breaking elusive T20 World Cup record in India's clash against South Africa

Former India captain Kapil Dev has urged the Indian team management to play Rishabh Pant over Dinesh Karthik in the Men in Blue's clash against South Africa in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). India have gotten off to a flying start in the tournament with two wins in their first two games and will be hoping to maintain their winning streak in the third Super 12 clash against the Proteas.

Karthik has been India's first-choice wicket-keeper batter so far in the tournament but hasn't got too many chances to impress as he bats in the lower-middle order as the team's designated finisher. While he hasn't batted enough, he hasn't been flawless while keeping wickets.

Speaking ahead of the crucial clash against South Africa, Kapil India should look at playing Pant as he will provide a left-hand option in the middle order and his wicket-keeping can be like a breath of fresh air for the team making it look complete.

"I want to say that since we have Rishabh Pant, now is the time India need him. It felt as if Dinesh Karthik would get the job done, but factoring in the wicketkeeping as well, I feel that if India have that left-hander option in the team, this team would look complete," Kapil said on ABP News.

Kapil also backed struggling KL Rahul to find his form soon in the ongoing tournament. Rahul has looked completely out of touch in the first two games and has managed only 13 runs so far. The former India captain said Rahul needs to be patient at the top and take his time initially as he has the skills to accelerate when needed.

"He is a very neat cricketer. If you look at his batting, he doesn't appear to be struggling. He gets out and has in fact, played on twice or thrice. I want him to score runs because it is really important for him to score. Some players are told not to play fast. He can take time initially because he can easily accelerate as and when needed. I want him to play patiently, play the first 8-10 overs, and then when he gets an idea what total is best on the pitch, then go for it," said Kapil.

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Group 1 qualification scenario explained:

New Zealand: New Zealand are currently sitting on top of the points table after two wins and a no-result in their first three games. They have five points to their name and are favourites to top the group. The Kiwis need just one win in their remaining two matches to make it to the semi-finals. Even if they lose one of their two games, they have a superior net run rate which will see them finish as table toppers.

England, Australia, Ireland: All three of England, Ireland, and Australia are currently tied on three points each with one win, one loss and a no-result game each. While England are in the second spot with the highest net run rate, Ireland and Australia are in the third and fourth spot respectively. All three teams can reach a maximum of seven points each which will be enough to secure a spot in the semi-finals. They can't afford any slips ups in their remaining two matches to ensure they can qualify without depending on favours from other teams.

Sri Lanka and Afghanistan: Both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have two points each under their belt. However, Sri Lanka have played only two matches while Afghanistan have already played three with two of their matches ending up in a no-result due to rain. While Sri Lanka still have a healthy chance of qualifying as they can finish with seven points, Afghanistan will have to win their remaining two matches and hope some other results go their way to remain in contention to finish second in the group.

Pakistan's loss to Zimbabwe in the T-20 World Cup has brought fame to a "fake Mr. Bean". Molly Gambhir tells you more.

At 37, Dinesh Karthik could well be playing his last ICC tournament, having been a part of global event squad for the first time back in 2007. At 25, Rishabh Pant has years of top-flight cricket left in him. He batted from start to finish during the nets but a place in the playing eleven still looks like a distant reality.

In case of Pant, there was passion and anger of a youth in his batting session as Rahul Dravid spent the maximum time looking at his batting.

Dilip kept a couple of red and white markers at least four feet apart and put a white towel on them.
