Several Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have been focused on expanding their bases globally and have been buying teams across different T20 leagues around the world.
With IPL team owners exploring options around the globe, they have also been hoping to lure the best players from around the world to play for their franchises throughout the year. IPL team owners are looking to tie down some of the top cricketers to year-long contracts for them to be available for selection in all T20 leagues.

As per a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, some IPL teams recently held informal talks with the players through their respective management to find out how much will it take to convince the players to ditch their Cricket Australia (CA) contracts and agree to be a T20 globe-trotter with their IPL franchise.

If a player agrees to sign a year-long deal with an IPL franchise, it will mean he will have to commit to playing for all teams under the franchise's umbrella in different T20 leagues around the world and reduce his playing time for the national team. A top Australian player has reportedly been offered around AUS$5 million (Approx 3.2 million USD) to sign a year-long contract by an IPL team.

He had one of the greatest careers in cricket but the lack of thrill and excitement of the game after retirement pushed Wasim Akram towards drugs. Akram, widely regarded as one of the best fast bowlers to have played the game, has opened up on his cocaine addiction in his new autobiography — Sultan: A Memoir, excerpts from which were published by The Times. The autobiography also sheds light on several other controversial aspects of his career and personal life.

Akram, a legend of Pakistan cricket, has admitted to drug addiction for the first time through his book. He revealed it was at a party in England where he was first offered cocaine and snorted a line. From one line it soon became two and lines eventually became a gram or two.

The addiction started taking a toll on his body and personal life but the damage had already been done and Akram admitted it reached a point where it felt he needed to consume cocaine to function. It was only after the death of his former wife Huma that Akram decided to quit and change his life for the good.

Pakistan's highest wicket-taker in international cricket with over 900 scalps to his name, Akram has bared it all about his addiction in his book which also touches upon the infamous match-fixing saga involving him. Opening up on his dependence on cocaine, Akram revealed how it started and affected his life.

"I liked to indulge myself; I liked to party. The culture of fame in south Asia is all consuming, seductive and corrupting. You can go to 10 parties a night. And it took its toll on me. My devices turned into vices," Akram has written in his book, as per excerpts published by The Times.

"Worst of all, I developed a dependence on cocaine. It started innocuously enough when I was offered a line at a party in England; my use grew steadily more serious, to the point that I felt I needed it to function."

"It made me volatile. It made me deceptive. Huma, I know, was often lonely in this time ... she would talk of her desire to move to Karachi, to be nearer her parents and siblings. I was reluctant. Why? Partly because I liked going to Karachi on my own, pretending it was work when it was actually about partying, often for days at a time," he adds.

Akram revealed how his wife eventually found out about his cocaine addiction and knew he needed help. The former pacer agreed he needed to get out of it as his addiction was growing out of hand and it resulted in him ignoring his diabetes which impacted his body adversely.

"Huma eventually found me out, discovering a packet of cocaine in my wallet . . . ‘You need help.’ I agreed. It was getting out of hand. I couldn’t control it. One line would become two, two would become four; four would become a gram, a gram would become two. I could not sleep. I could not eat. I grew inattentive to my diabetes, which caused me headaches and mood swings. Like a lot of addicts, part of me welcomed discovery: the secrecy had been exhausting," Akram writes.

Rehab didn't help Wasim Akram

Akram was struggling to get control of his life with his drug addiction becoming unbearable. The Pakistan legend revealed he eventually agreed to go into rehab, however, the experience made him return to his old habits soon.

The former Pakistan cricketer said the doctor who was treating him at the rehab was a complete 'con man' whose primary motive was to milk money out of the families of his patients. Akram said the treatment made him gain weight and he felt like a 'zombie', who wanted to get out of rehab soon.

"Movies conjure up an image of rehab as a caring, nurturing environment. This facility was brutal: a bare building with five cells, a meeting room and a kitchen. The doctor was a complete con man, who worked primarily on manipulating families rather than treating patients, on separating relatives from money rather than users from drugs.

"The treatment was essentially sedation, with fistfuls of tablets to take in the morning and evening, coupled with lectures and prayer. I felt lethargic. I gained weight. For an hour a day I wandered round our little exercise yard like a zombie... I screamed at my wife. ‘I’ve got to get out of here'," Akram writes in his book.

Akram spent seven weeks in rehab but the traumatic experience left him 'scared' as he found comfort in his addiction once again. The former Pakistan pacer started taking drugs again when he returned to England on commentary duties for the Champions Trophy in 2009, away from the watchful eyes of his wife.

"It was horrible. That scarred me for a bit . . . when people keep you against your will that pisses you off," Akram writes describing his experience in rehab.

"Try as I might, part of me was still smouldering inside about the indignity of what I’d been put through. My pride was hurt, and the lure of my lifestyle remained. I briefly contemplated divorce. I settled for heading to the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy where, out from under Huma’s daily scrutiny, I started using again, he says about his return to old habits.

The turning point

The turning point in Akram's life came following the death of his former wife Huma. While she couldn't stop him from drug abuse when she was still alive, her demise prompted the former Pakistan cricketer to rethink his way of life and change for the good.

Huma died after being diagnosed with a rare fungal infection called mucormycosis, which couldn't be treated in time as doctors in Pakistan failed to recognise it. Akram is currently married to Shaniera Akram, whom he tied the knot with in 2013. Calling it her last selfless act, Akram admitted ever since Huma's death he stopped taking drugs and never looked back.

"Huma’s last selfless, unconscious act was curing me of my drug problem. That way of life was over, and I have never looked back," he writes.

The highs and lows of sport

Akram has easily had one of the most decorated careers in the history of Pakistan cricket. He won the World Cup in 1992 and went on to captain the team before retiring as one of the most successful bowlers in world cricket.

However, he sorely missed the highs of the sport post-retirement which paved way for drug addiction that eventually made him sink to new lows. Akram revealed for him, cocaine was a substitute for the adrenaline rush that cricket gave him in his playing days.

"A substitute for the adrenaline rush of competition, which I sorely missed, or to take advantage of the opportunity, which I had never had," Akram writes explaining how he ended up becoming an addict.

Seen as one of the cricketing heroes of the nation even at present, Akram feels a lot might change after the release of his book as a lot of his admissions will shock and disappoint some fans but believes he needed to put out his side of the story for everyone to hear.

Virat Kohli produced one of the finest knocks of his career as his unbeaten 82 helped India down Pakistan in a last-ball thriller in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday.
Glenn Phillips rode his luck to smash a special hundred as New Zealand put their poor start behind to register a crucial 65-run win over Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup, here on Saturday.

New Zealand found themselves tottering at 15 for three inside the powerplay before Phillips (104 off 64) shared an 84-run stand with Daryl Mitchell (22 off 24) to stabilise the innings.

The 25-year-old, who was dropped twice including early on in his innings, played some sensational strokes en route to his second T20 hundred. His knock comprised four sixes and 10 boundaries.

Sri Lanka too lost early wickets but, unlike New Zealand, could not recover from there to end at 102 all out in 19.2 overs. Trent Boult caused the maximum damage with the new ball and ended up with career-best figures of four for 13 in four overs.

It was New Zealand's second win in three games, with their previous game against Afghanistan being a total washout. The semifinal passage gets a lot tougher for Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka, who suffered their second loss in three games.

The game was as good as over with Sri Lanka slipping to 24 for five in the seventh over. The veteran pace of duo of Boult and Tim Southee ran through Sri Lanka's top-order with the former picking up three wickets in his opening spell. Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santer (2/21) and Ish Sodhi (2/21) also chipped in with couple of wickets.

Barring Bhanuka Rajapaksa's breezy 34 off 22 balls, none of the Sri Lankan batters could get going against a formidable Kiwi attack. Skipper Dasun Shanaka (35 off 32), who has bailed his team out of tough situations, could not do so on Saturday.

It was New Zealand's first game since their win over Australia a week ago but it did not take long for them to operate at their optimal best.

Earlier, Phillips flat batted forehand shots off both the spinners and pacers stood out in his memorable innings. His first six off Chamika Karunaratne, a pick up shot that went flying over long leg, gave him the confidence to go ballistic and lift the team from a precarious start.

Phillips reached the three figure mark with a pull off mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana, prompting roaring celebrations from the belligerent batter.

Theekshana, who impressed with the new ball, was too short in the death overs and Phillips took full advantage of that. The New Zealander smashed him for two successive sixes in the 18th over that went for 16. The last five overs yielded 67 runs for New Zealand. Sri Lanka's catching and ground fielding on the day left a lot to be desired.

The only positive for Sri Lanka was their performance in the first six overs in which they removed the dangerous Finn Allen, Devon Conway and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson.

Theekshana removed Finn with an inswinger, pretty unusual for a spinner, that was too close to cut. Willamson was caught behind as he tried to drive wide ball off pacer Kasun Rajitha on the up.
Also Read: 'Can’t wait to retire': Australia captain Aaron Finch wants to watch India-Pakistan game live Theekshana, who impressed with the new ball, was too short in the death overs and Phillips took full advantage of that.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald has warned there could be more positive cases in his squad after wicket-keeper batter Matthew Wade and spinner Adam Zampa tested positive for COVID-19 in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Wade tested positive ahead of Australia's clash against England on Friday but was fit to play.

However, he couldn't take the field as the game was washed out due to rain without a ball being bowled at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne. While Wade had fewer symptoms compared to Zampa and was ready to play, the news of his COVID-19 positive test had come as a huge blow to Australia as he is the only wicket-keeper in their squad.

The COVID-19 cases among players have been rising at the ongoing T20 World Cup and the numbers are expected to grow. Apart from Australia, the likes of Ireland and Sri Lanka have also had positive COVID-19 cases in their respective camps. Speaking about the rising cases, Mcdonald said there is a chance many teams will face such a situation now.

Legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has slammed Pakistan captain Babar Azam after the team's humiliating defeat against Zimbabwe in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Akram and his former bowling partner Waqar Younis criticised Babar for being selfish when it came to retaining his opening spot in the batting line-up.

In a discussion on a Pakistan channel following the team's 1-run defeat against Zimbabwe, Waqar pointed out how there have been constant changes in the bowling department and the middle-order in Pakistan's T20I team, however, the openers have never been changed.

Waqar believes opening is the easiest spot in T20Is and that Babar should have challenged himself by batting at no.3 and allowing someone else to take the top spot to set an example as a leader.

“The easiest place to bat in T20s is opening. You have not let anyone else open in the last two years. I have discussed this with Misbah before that why don’t you try something new? You have tried it out with bowling, but with batting, we have tried all the experiments with the middle order. But the openers have remained the same and they have batted 14-15 overs together,” Waqar said on A Sports.

Akram agreed with Waqar's comments on Babar and accused the Pakistan skipper of being 'insecure' and 'playing for himself'.
"All of these things begin at the top. And at the top is your captain. If your captain plays for himself and is insecure. If your captain scores runs and lets other batters play at his position, you get to know that your captain is ready to sacrifice himself for you, this Babar has to learn," said Wasim.

"I have been through this by the way with Babar, at Karachi Kings, yes. In the team we had a couple of bad phases and I requested him once or twice nicely, that please come down at number 3, we’ll try something different. Let (Martin) Guptill bat at the top, seeing he is an opener. And he (Babar) said I would not go down, you ask Sharjeel to bat at 3, and he (Sharjeel) is a natural opener too. And these little things that the captain does, the team senses too," he added.

Fresh off a horror last over against India that cost his side the match, Mohammed Nawaz's nightmare tournament continued when he was caught for 22 off the penultimate ball of the match off the bowling of Brad Evans (2-25), who had an 11-run cushion in the last over.

Pakistan's chase got off to a rocky start, squeezed at 36-3 in the eighth over with the world's top-ranked T20 batsman, Mohammed Rizwan, back in the dugout for 14 having chopped a delivery from two-metre tall Blessing Muzarabani (1-18) on to his stumps.

But Raza further pegged back the Asian side with his off-spin, having Masood stumped off a wide.

After losing the toss earlier, Pakistan's much-vaunted pace attack bowled too full in the powerplay overs, conceding 47 runs, although quick wickets to dismiss the Zimbabwe openers kept the rate in check.

All-rounder Sikandar Raza sensationally picked up 3-25 against Pakistan on Thursday as Zimbabwe prevailed by one run in a final-ball thriller to register their first Super 12 win at the Twenty20 World Cup. Floored by an extraordinary last-ball defeat to arch-rivals India in their opening match on Sunday, Pakistan find their tournament in tatters after, having restricted Zimbabwe to a modest 130-8 at Perth Stadium, reaching just 129-8 in reply. Fresh off a horror last over against India that cost his side the match, Mohammed Nawaz's nightmare tournament continued when he was caught for 22 off the penultimate ball of the match off the bowling of Brad Evans (2-25), who had an 11-run cushion in the last over. It was left to Shaan Masood to steady the ship with a composed 44, regularly exploiting the large outfield to run twos.
Rohit Sharma-led India are up against the Netherlands in their second Super 12 clash at the Men's T20 World Cup 2022 edition, on Thursday (October 27) at the SCG, Sydney. After winning the toss, Rohit & Co. opted to bowl first and rode on half-centuries from the skipper (53), Virat Kohli (62 not out) and Suryakumar Yadav (unbeaten 51) to post a challenging 179-2 in 20 overs.

Hitman's knock comprised 4 fours and 3 sixes. By virtue of his knock, he achieved a huge feat to surpass Yuvraj Singh (33) to now have most sixes by an Indian in the tournament history (34).

In addition, Rohit became the second Indian captain to score a fifty in the T20 WC. In the 2021 T20 WC, then skipper Kohli had hit a half-century (57) during India-Pakistan clash in Dubai. At the coin toss, Rohit said after opting to bat first, "Yeah, morale is really high. Winning a game like that (vs Pakistan) takes your confidence to the next level but at the same time we understand we need to stay calm, just the first game of the tournament and plenty of things to happen. We have to calm ourselves and look forward to this game. We want to keep improving no matter what the results are, it always keeps you in good stead when you are thinking like that. It is important for us to keep ticking those boxes."

After a thrashing at the hands of New Zealand, Australia faced Sri Lanka and defeated the one-time winners by seven wickets, with 21 balls to spare, to open their account in the ongoing Men's T20 World Cup in Australia. The hosts and defending champions rode on Marcus Stoinis' blitz with the bat to go past the Dasun Shanaka-led side in pursuit of 158. Opting to bowl first, Aaron Finch-led Aussies restricted the Lankans to 157 for 6, who rode on valuable knocks from Patham Nissanka, Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka. In reply, it was a Stoinis-show as he smacked an unbeaten 59, off 18 balls, to take his side past the finish line in 16.3 overs. Courtesy of his innings, which was laced with 4 fours and 6 sixes at a whopping strike rate of 327.78, the power-hitter created new all-time record. He broke a record jointly held by David Warner and Glenn Maxwell to score the quickest half-century by an Aussie in T20Is.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag has slammed Australia for their poor hospitality after the Indian team complained about being served 'cold food' in lunch following their training session at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on Tuesday (October 25). T20 World Cup: New Zealand, Afghanistan share points as match gets abandoned due to rain

India defeated Pakistan by four wickets in the last-ball thriller on Sunday in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 to get off to a winning start in the tournament. However, their top-order woes were left exposed once again during the game as openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma failed to fire.

The Men in Blue rode on Virat Kohli's unbeaten 82 and a crucial 40-run-knock from Hardik Pandya to chase down the tricky target of 160 runs after a poor start at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has said that the Indian openers looked scared against the Pakistan pacers in the powerplay.

Both Rahul and Rohit were dismissed for four runs each leaving India in a spot of bother early in the high-pressure chase. While Rahul played one onto his stumps against Naseem Shah after being beaten by pace, Rohit edged one from Haris Rauf to get caught at first slip.

It was a horrendous start for India and their woes were further compounded when both Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel too departed cheaply leaving the team reeling on 31/4 at one stage in the run-chase. Akhtar said the Indian openers looked under pressure and advised Rohit to stay calm.

"India’s openers are looking a little under pressure and scared. Rohit needs to calm down as a captain, his batting is bearing the brunt of it," said the former Pakistan pacer in a video on his YouTube channel where he analysed the game.

Also Read: Huge upset! Andy Balbirnie, Joshua Little star as Ireland stun 2010 winners England on DLS method Akhtar also praised Kohli for his match-winning 82 and labelled it the greatest knock of his career so far. However, the former Pakistan pacer also surprisingly urged Kohli to retire from T20Is and focus on ODIs, arguing that the senior batter can score more hundreds in the 50-over format. Rahul and Rohit's performances in big matches have been a concern for the Indian team for a while now and the openers will be hoping to prove the notion wrong going forward in the T20 World Cup this year. India will face Netherlands in their next Super 12 clash on Thursday.

Marcus Stoinis' quickfire half-century helped Australia thrash Sri Lanka by seven wickets as the hosts recorded their first win in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Tuesday (October 25). Australia chased down the tricky target of 158 runs with as many as 21 balls to spare after Stoinis went berserk with the willow in Perth.

It was a sensational knock from the star all-rounder, who came out to bat at number five when Australia were 89/3 with Sri Lanka trying to take control of the game. However, he took little time to settle down and went after the Lankan bowlers from the word go to pull Australia back into the contest.

Stoinis slammed an unbeaten 59 off just 18 balls and completed his fifty off just 17 balls to record the fastest fifty by an Australian in T20Is. His half-century off 17 balls is also the second-fastest fifty overall in T20 World Cup history. His stellar knock was laced with six sixes and four fours as the Sri Lankan bowlers were taken to the cleaners in Perth.

Stoinis' blitzkrieg ensured Australia nailed down the target comfortably as the hosts bounced back from their shambolic defeat against New Zealand in the opener to bag their first points in the tournament.

India rode on a stunning unbeaten half-century from Virat Kohli to pull off a miraculous victory at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.

After much hullabaloo, India and Pakistan squared off in the fourth game of the Super 12 clash at the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, on Sunday afternoon (October 23). Playing in front of a jam-packed Melbourne Cricket Stadium, Melbourne, the clash was a humdinger which saw Rohit Sharma-led India beat Pakistan by four wickets in a last-over thriller, courtesy of Virat Kohli's majestic 82 not out.

Opting to bowl first, India was off to a good start. The opening bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh got some movement and bounce and curtailed the run-flow. As a result, Pakistan captain Babar Azam shuffled off Arshdeep but was trapped lbw, after missing the ball completely, to be out for a golden duck. Rizwan also followed suit, surprised by a well-executed short ball from Arshdeep (3 for 32).

Shan Masood steadied the ship after the fall of the Pakistani openers. Iftikhar Ahmed, on the other hand, took on Axar Patel and went bonkers with some lusty blows. With Iftikhar adding some vital runs, Rohit brought Md Shami back into the attack and he dismissed him for a 34-ball 51. From thereon, some vital blows from Shaheen Afridi (8-ball 16) and Masood's cautious 42-ball 52 not out took Pakistan to a competitive 159 for 8 in 20 overs. Apart from Arshdeep, Hardik also impressed and returned with 3 for 30.

In reply, Indian openers were tentative and dismissed for cheap inside the powerplay overs. KL Rahul chopped it onto the stumps, off Naseem shah, whereas Haris Rauf removed Rohit for 4. T20 WC 2022: Virat Kohli's stunning knock helps India beat Pakistan in dramatic last-ball thriller

Virat Kohli turned out to be the saviour for India as he smashed a stunning knock of unbeaten 82 to help India clinch a last-ball thriller by four wickets against arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday. It was yet another chasing masterclass from Kohli, who looked in sublime control throughout his innings.

Having returned to form in the Asia Cup earlier this year after a prolonged rough patch, all eyes were on Kohli on Sunday as India found themselves in trouble early on in the 160-run chase against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). India were reeling at 31/4 inside the first seven overs with their hopes diminishing after a disastrous start.

However, Kohli combined with Hardik Pandya to spark a turnaround for the Men in Blue as he went on to play one of the best knocks of his career so far. Kohli scored 82 off 53 balls studded with four sixes and six fours to combine with Hardik Pandya (40) and take the game down the wire.

With 48 to get off the last three overs, Kohli upped the ante in stunning fashion and took the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf to the cleaners before taking India closer to victory in the final over from Mohammad Nawaz. R Ashwin kept his composure under pressure to get India over the line with just 1 needed off the last delivery.

While Kohli became the leading run-getter in T20Is after his stunning 82 at the MCG on Sunday, he also surpassed India head coach Rahul Dravid on the list of highest run-getters in international cricket. Kohli overtook Dravid to claim the sixth spot on the slite list with 24, 212 runs in 528 matches across all three formats.

He surpassed Dravid's tally of 24,208 runs in international cricket and is now only behind the likes of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Kumar Sangakkara among others on the elite list.

Virat Kohli surpasses Rahul Dravid to become sixth-highest run getter in international cricket

Rain beat South Africa, depriving them of a victory in a World Cup match one more time. Set a target of 80 in nine overs by Zimbabwe, which was revised to 64 in seven overs after a brief rain interruption in their opening T20 World Cup match, South Africa were cruising at 51 for no loss in three overs, with opener Quinton de Kock going strong at an 18-ball unbeaten 47. Rain, then, turned out to be their real opponents on the day.

So, three decades after they were rained out of the 1992 ODI World Cup semifinals on readmission into international cricket, South Africa were again done in by the elements, this time in a group game though. It's been 30 years since the heartbreak in Sydney against England, but the rains continue to come in the way of the Proteas.

All-rounder Wesley Madhevere top-scored with an 18-ball unbeaten 35 and pulled Zimbabwe to 79 for 5 after a horror start in the rain-curtailed nine-over-a-side contest.

South Africa were 24 for no loss when the heavens opened up first, and soon after play resumed following the brief interruption, de Kock carted Richard Ngarava for four boundaries, including three on the trot. But the match was called off after it started to rain again.

Earlier, having got a life on 11, Madhevere capitalised on that to prop up Zimbabwe after they were tottering at 19 for four in the fourth over. The game was shortened after rain delayed the start by more than two hours at Bellerive Oval, which was drowned in water before the groundsmen got it match-ready.

The powerplay was reduced to three overs per side with four bowlers allowed to bowl a maximum of two overs each.
In a surprising move, Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine opted to bat first despite the threat of rain looming over and the possibility of the Duckworth/Lewis method coming into the picture. The decision backfired as they lost the top four batters with hardly anything on the board.

Lungi Ngidi (2/20) was the wrecker-in-chief early on, having taken the wickets of Regis Chakabva (8) and Sikandar Raza for a second-ball duck. Ngidi had Chakabva caught behind right after the opener had hit the pacer for a six over deep midwicket.

This was after Wayne Parnell gave the Proteas their first breakthrough by removing Ervine (2). Possessing a potent four-pronged pace attack, the South Africans ran through their overs quickly, even as Zimbabwe's top order struggled to get its act right.

Promoted to number three, Sean Williams was run out after a horrendous call by Wesley Madhevere, as David Miller's throw at the striker's end found the batter short by a few yards in the fourth over. Zimbabwe got two boundaries in the next over to somewhat break the shackles.

Meanwhile, Ngidi dropped Madhevere in left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj's first and only over of the game. The batter was on 11, and he made full use of the life by smashing Kagiso Rabada for 17 runs in the innings' eighth over, including hitting the pacer for a six and two fours.

Quinton de Kock's fiery knock goes in vain as rain denies South Africa victory against Zimbabwe in T20 WC

South Africa's opening game at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 ended in a no result against Zimbabwe on Monday (October 24). The Proteas were robbed of a deserving victory as rain played spoilsport in the contest at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

The game was reduced to a nine overs-a-side contest after a delayed start due to rain with Zimbabwe opting to bat first. South African pacers were on the money as they ran through Zimbabwe's top order before a crucial partnership between Wesley Madhevere (35) and Milton Shumba (18) helped them put 79 runs on the board.

In reply, South Africa got off to a fiery start as opener Quinton de Kock went berserk with the bat from the word go. He took the Zimbabwe bowlers to the cleaners en route to a quickfire 47 off 18 balls. South Africa raced to 51/0 inside just three overs riding on De Kock's blitzkrieg.

However, rain halted play once again as the game eventually ended in no result with the Proteas despite the target being revised to 64 runs in 7 overs. South Africa needed just 13 runs to win with 4 overs and all ten wickets in hand. While it was a disappointing day for South African players, their misery was further intensified after a rare five-run penalty during Zimbabwe's innings following the rain-delayed start.

Zimbabwe were awarded five runs after an unintentional mistake by De Kock on the ground. The incident happened on the third delivery of the ninth over during Zimbabwe's innings when Shumba miscued a reverse scoop against Anrich Nortje and the ball went to Lungi Ngidi at fine leg.

Ngidi made no mistakes and threw it back towards De Kock, who had taken his right glove to be ready for a throw in case of a run-out chance. However, the ball touched De Kock's glove lying on the ground before hitting his pad.
