The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed stupendous growth ever since its inception in 2008 and has transformed into one of the best sporting leagues in the world.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been continuously working to improve the standards in the league to provide the fans with a better viewing experience. IPL set to expand to 94 matches in 5 years, Indian players unlikely to be allowed to play overseas leagues

India will lock horns with England in the all-important second semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday (November 10). The blockbuster clash will be staged at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide with a place in the final on the line. Ahead of the much-awaited encounter, captain Rohit Sharma's form is a huge concern for the Indian team.

Rohit has struggled to score runs in the ongoing tournament and has so far managed only 89 runs in five matches. Despite having an excellent pull shot at his disposal, Rohit has been far from effective against short balls and bouncers in Australia. He has been dismissed by bouncers thrice in five matches so far.

However, despite his poor form, England all-rounder Ben Stokes has said his team won't take the Indian skipper lightly in the upcoming semi-final between the two teams. Stokes called Rohit one of the best T20 batters in the world and said he should not be judged on the basis of previous matches.

Virat Kohli played a shot for the ages when he struck a stunning straight six against Haris Rauf during India's clash against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. It was an incredible display of core strength from Kohli, who managed to send the shortish delivery over the rope by playing one of the most difficult shots in the game.

Australia legend Ricky Ponting has heaped praise on Kohli for producing the incredible shot which he thinks will go down as one of the most remembered in the history of the T20 World Cup. Kohli's iconic shot came en route to his fabulous unbeaten 82 which helped India clinch a last-ball thriller against Pakistan.

"It’s going to go down as one of the most remembered and talked about shots probably in - I won’t say white-ball cricket history - but certainly T20 World Cup history," said Ponting lauding Kohli for his brilliant skill.

T20 WC 2022: Stunned by Netherlands, South Africa crash out after 13-run loss

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was delighted after South Africa suffered a shock defeat against Netherlands in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (November 06). Like millions of cricket fans in the country, Akhtar too woke up to the news of South Africa's defeat which paved way for Pakistan's entry into the semi-finals of the competition.

Heading into the final day of the Super 12 stage on Sunday, Pakistan needed a miracle to qualify for the semi-finals with just four points from as many matches. Having played tremendous cricket in the group stage, South Africa were touted to win against minnow Netherlands and confirm their spot in the top four.

However, South Africa lost by 13 runs which made Pakistan's clash against Bangladesh a virtual semi-final. An elated Akhtar thanked South Africa and labeled them 'big chokers' after their surprise defeat kept Pakistan alive in the tournament despite having suffered heartbreaking losses against India and Zimbabwe.

"I just woke up. Thank you, South Africa. You guys are big chokers because you gave Pakistan another chance. It was a big favour. All Pakistan needs to do is just go out there and win this game," Akhtar said in a video posted on Twitter.

"I didn’t think Pakistan deserved this chance after losing to Zimbabwe but Pakistan got a lifeline, a lottery. I think Bangladesh are great people but we need this World Cup, we need to see India once all over again," he added.

India's nail-biting 5-run win against Bangladesh all but confirmed their spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 but Rohit Sharma & Co. are far from safe in Group 1. Can India still get knocked out of T20 World Cup 2022? All possible scenarios in Group 1 explained

England defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in a must-win clash in Sydney on Saturday (November 05) to confirm their spot in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. England were tasked to chase a moderate target of 142 runs but made hard work of it before chasing down the target with two balls to spare.

Their victory also sealed Australia's fate in the tournament as the defending champions were knocked out on the basis of net run rate. Despite having the same number of points as table-toppers New Zealand and second-placed England, Australia failed to make the cut for the knockout stages.

How the defending champions were knocked out

Australia needed to win by a huge margin against Afghanistan in their final Super 12 clash on Friday to safeguard their spot in the semi-finals. However, the defending champions could only manage to pull off a close 4-run victory which dented their hopes of making it to the knockout stages as their net run rate of -0.173 was lower than England's +0.547.

The equation was a simple one for England as they locked horns with Sri Lanka in the do-or-die clash on Saturday. They needed to win to make it to the next round and a defeat would have ended their campaign in the tournament this year.

England's four-wicket victory against the Asia Cup champions saw them earn crucial two points while their net run rate remained positive at +0.473 to secure them a berth in the semi-finals ahead of Australia.

The top three of New Zealand, England, and Australia all managed seven points each in five matches but the hosts had to pay the price as they had the poorest net run rate. New Zealand and England will now meet the top two teams from Group 2 in the semi-finals of the competition.

Happy Birthday Virat Kohli: A look at five incredible records held by Indian superstar

Alex Hales and Ben Stokes helped England beat Sri Lanka by four wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday (November 05) to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Hales and Stokes produced crucial knocks of 47 and 42 runs respectively as England chased down the target of 142 runs with two balls to spare against the Asia Cup champions.

England lost the toss and were invited to bat first in their must-win clash with Sri Lanka getting off to a good start. Opener Pathum Nissanka slammed a brilliant 67 off 45 balls and set the stage for a strong total, however, Sri Lanka's middle-order collapsed as they were restricted to 141/8 in 20 overs.

Mark Wood continued his fine form with the ball and ran riot as he picked up a three-wicket haul and finished with excellent figures of 3/26 off his 3 overs. In reply, England never looked in a hurry in their run chase and steadily cruised to the target with the help of some sensible batting from Hales and Stokes.

England were off to a flyer in the run-chase as openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales combined to post 75 runs on the board for the first wicket. While Hales took the destructive route, Buttler was more conservative in his approach. However, the England skipper couldn't convert his start into a big score as he was dismissed on 28 off 23 balls.

England then went on to lose wickets in a cluster with the likes of Harry Brook (4), Liam Livingstone (4), Moeen Ali (1), and Sam Curran (6) all falling cheaply. However, Stokes kept his composure and held his crease firm on one end to remain unbeaten on 42 off 36 and take his team home.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny hit back at former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi after he recently claimed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is biased towards India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
The match was reduced to a 16-overs-a-side contest after rain halted play during Bangladesh's 185-run chase. When you perform in Australia, you get that respect: Virat Kohli on his impressive numbers Down Under

Indian cricket's undisputed superstar and one of the modern-day greats of the game, Virat Kohli is celebrating his 34th birthday on Saturday (November 05). One of the finest batters of all time, Kohli has been in top-notch form for India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 and has set the stage on fire in Australia.

Heading into the T20 World Cup, Kohli had to deal with severe criticism and constant scrutiny as he underwent a prolonged lean patch with the willow in international cricket. However, he bounced back strongly in the Asia Cup earlier this year before shutting his critics completely with his stunning performances in the T20 World Cup 2022.

As the batting maestro turned 34 on Saturday, wishes poured in from all corners with fans and cricketers from across the globe paying rich tributes to one of the greatest the game has ever seen. While his India teammate Dinesh Karthik posted a heartfelt message for Kohli on his birthday, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh hailed his hard work and determination to be where he is today.

As the batting maestro turned 34 on Saturday, wishes poured in from all corners with fans and cricketers from across the globe paying rich tributes to one of the greatest the game has ever seen.
Mohammad Nabi has stepped down as Afghanistan T20I captain shortly after the Afghan side's end of campaign in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, on Friday (November 04). The senior player had first taken up the role of captaincy in 2013 and carried on with it till 2015 before he was reappointed as the captain ahead of the 2021 T20 WC in the UAE.

After Afghanistan gave a massive scare to hosts and defending champions Australia, on Friday at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, the 37-year-old all-rounder Nabi took to his Twitter account and shared a post for his fans. Nabi revealed that the team management, selection committee and he was not on the same page as he summed up Afghanistan's dismal T20 WC campaign. Here's Nabi's statement:

Therefore, with due respect, effective immediately I announce to STEP DOWN as a CAPTAIN & will continue to play for my country when the management & team need me.

I thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart who came to the grounds despite matches being affected by the rain and those who supported us worldwide, your love truly means a lot to us. Long live Afghanistan.

On Friday (November 04), New Zealand defeated Ireland by 35 runs and have strengthened their chances of progressing into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 edition in Australia. Locking horns with the Irish line-up in their last league stage match, after a defeat at the hands of England, Kane Williamsno & Co. produced a fine performance to topple the Andy Balbirnie-led Ireland camp and take a big step towards qualifying to the semi-finals. With this win, NZ now have ended the Super 12 round with seven points. While Australia, who now play Afghanistan, and England (to meet Sri Lanka tomorrow) can equal them but it will take a lot out of them to go past the Black Caps in terms of Net Run Rate (NRR).

Opting to bowl first, Ireland bowlers didn't start well as Finn Allen and Devon Conway posted a 52-run first-wicket stand in less than six overs. Allen made an 18-ball 32 whereas Conway returned for 28, Williamson upped the ante -- an area where he has struggled in this tournament so far -- and got some support from Glenn Phillips (9-ball 17) and Daryl Mitchell (21-ball 31*) to post a challenging 185 for 6 at the picturesque Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. From Ireland's perspective, Joshua Little claimed a hat-trick in the 19th over and became the sixth bowler, overall, to achieve this feat in T20 WC history (second Irishman).

In reply, Ireland openers -- captain Balbirnie and Paul Stirling -- started off on a positive note but post their departures, the middle and lower order couldn't do much as NZ bowlers chipped in with regular breakthroughs. Lockie Ferguson returned with 3 for 22 whereas the likes of Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi ended with two wickets apiece. George Dockrell's late hits (15-ball 23) managed to take his side to 150 for 9 in 20 overs as Kiwis won comfortably by 35 runs.

The 2021 runners-ups have done enough to top Group 1. Nonetheless, they will keep an eye on Australia-Afghanistan and England-Sri Lanka even though they have NRR in their favour (+2.113).

WHAT THEY SAID

Kane Williamson | Winning captain and Player-of-the-Match: The ball held on the surface a little bit, I think the guys at the top were brilliant to give us the start and help us build the momentum. Then I think the spinners bowled brilliantly to get us the win. I was just trying to build some partnerships and contribute, happy to time a few balls as well today but it was a real team effort. They (Ireland) played some amazing cricket, played some challenging cricket and we had to adapt well, which I thought we did. The ball was stopping on the surface, the openers made a great start and the rest of the batters adjusted well to the conditions, especially against spin. I wanted to take my options, work on partnerships, speak with the batters about things to do going forward. We had to wait until the 9-over mark to get our first wicket. We needed to adjust our lines, bowl a bit slower and I thought the bowlers did so beautifully.

We bowled well right through the tournament, the fielding was a bit off. (Coming to today) It was nice to set-up a platform - that has been a trend in this tournament, but we needed someone to kick on from there. We're quite happy with what we achieved (in the tournament), compared to where we were in the last 12 months, we have improved a lot, especially against good teams and we are looking forward to meeting these sides once again. T20 World Cup 2022: NZ beat Ireland by 35 runs in Adelaide, take big step towards progressing to SFs

India and Bangladesh were involved in a close battle in a crucial Super 12 clash in the T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Wednesday (November 02). Being asked to bat first, Rohit Sharma-led India posted 184 for 6 thanks to KL Rahul's 50 and Virat Kohli's unbeaten 66. In reply, Bangladesh opener Litton Das hammered the Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground and took his side to 66 for no loss in seven overs before a rain break.

After play resumed, the revised target was 151 in 16 overs with the Bangla Tigers still ahead courtesy of Litton's presence. Nonetheless, he was sent back by a bullet throw from Rahul, from deep mid-wicket, in the 8th over as the momentum shifted in India's favour.

Post Litton's dismissal, who made a rapid 27-ball 60, Bangladesh lost the plot and kept losing wickets at regular intervals to only manage 146-5 and lose by five runs (DLS method). At the post-match presentation, Rohit stated, "I was calm and nervous at the same time. It was important for us as a group to stay calm and execute our plans. With 10 wickets in hand it could've gone either way but after the break we did well. Our fielding was brilliant, some of the catches we took was great to watch. T20 World Cup 2022 points table: Here's a look at Super 12 standings after Pakistan thrash South Africa

Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram reacted to former India opener Gautam Gambhir's recent explosive remarks on Pakistan's current captain Babar Azam. Gambhir lashed out at Babar over his 'selfish captaincy' after his team's poor show in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.

Pakistan have had a disastrous start in the tournament this year and are currently reeling at the fifth spot on the Group 2 points table after just a solitary win from their first three matches. Babar & Co. lost their opening game against India before suffering a shock defeat against Zimbabwe in their next Super 12 clash.

The Men in Green did bounce back to winning ways against Netherlands in their third Super 12 game but are at the mercy of other teams to remain alive in the race for the semi-finals with two games in hand against South Africa and Bangladesh.

Gambhir had bashed Babar when asked for his views on his captaincy after the Pakistan skipper didn't allow Fakhar Zaman to open the batting in the clash against Netherlands. The former India opener said Babar was being selfish as captain and is not thinking about his team but personal records.

"In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself. If nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

Gambhir's comments created a stir in the Pakistan cricket fraternity with several former cricketers reacting to his comments. Akram too was asked for his views on Gambhir's comments during a discussion on Pakistan's A Sports.

Team India's star batter Suryakumar Yadav has continued his purple patch in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 and has been piling on runs consistently. Known as India's Mr.360, Suryakumar displayed his incredible batting prowess as he slammed a brilliant 68 off 40 balls in India's last outing against South Africa in Perth.

Bailing the team out of trouble, Suryakumar went on to play one of the best T20I knocks of his career as he helped India recover from 49/5 to post a fighting total of 133 runs on the board.
Virat Kohli broke Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene's record in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday (November 02) as the senior India batter became the leading run-getter in the history of the tournament. Kohli slammed a brilliant knock of unbeaten 64 in India's Super 12 clash against Bangladesh to go past Jayawardene in the elite list.

Kohli, who averages over 80 in the T20 World Cup, now has 1065 runs to his name in 25 matches at a strike rate of over 132, including 13 fifties. He notched up his third fifty in just four matches in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia on Wednesday.

Jayawardene had amassed 1016 runs in 31 matches in the T20 World Cup but Kohli managed to overtake him in just 25 matches. The Sri Lankan great congratulated Kohli for his feat and hailed him as a warrior for his remarkable consistency. In a video shared by the ICC, Jayawardene lauded Kohli for proving form is temporary and class is permanent.

'You have always been a warrior': Mahela Jayawardene reacts as Virat Kohli breaks his T20 World Cup record

Former New Zealand cricketer Jacob Oram is the assistant coach for the decorated franchise Northern Warriors at the Abu Dhabi T10, and hopes to see the power-hitters at the top of the batting order come good. The Northern Warriors have won the Abu Dhabi T10 twice and the Kiwi is excited to be working with a successful franchise and hopes to add a third title to the trophy cabinet.

“The aim is to win and that’s why we are here. If you look at our squad, there’s a lot of power at the top of the order and a lot of players have been retained too. It’s all about power at the top of the order, and ensuring we plug the holes with quality players. I’m getting my head slowly around the tactics and the game plans of the competition. And I’m looking forward to getting stuck in,” Oram said during a virtual interaction.

When asked about whether the T10 format requires a different lense in terms of preparations, the former pacer explained that being flexible with the plans is essential.

“It’s more about just understanding the basic plans, and you still have to bowl the good balls. It’s about having variations and having death bowling options as well. One has to be adjusting and flexible a lot sooner than you would in the other formats. It’s essentially all about that more than anything specific with regards to skill.”

The upcoming season will see the addition of two new teams making it an 8-team tournament. Reflecting on the schedule and the intensity of Season 6 of Abu Dhabi T10, Oram said that the balance between rest and playing will be crucial, across teams.

“Everyone’s going to have a condensed schedule. It is very intense, even though it’s just 60 balls a side. It’s not a long time but it will be very intense, and every ball is going to have something riding on it. So, mentally, emotionally and physically it’s going to be quite draining. It’s the ability to manage rest and recovery along with the playing side of things, just so that the players are able to maintain their physical recovery more than anything.”
