BTS enjoys a huge fan following in India. While the ARMY in India is strong, the band has never performed here. Now, band member Suga has expressed his desire to visit India soon. Suga is currently on his first solo tour - Agust D-Day Tour- and has been touring the world. After his recent concert in Bangkok, Suga hosted a live session where he admitted that he wants to travel to India and that he loves Bollywood.

‘I want to tour India'

During the live session, Suga whose actual name is Min Yoongi, was going through the comments on the Weverse Live and acknowledged the love he has received from India. When a fan asked about his plans to perform here in the country, Suga said, “India? Guys, I really want to go perform in India. Before the tour dates were announced, we were looking at a few different places for the shows. One of those was India, but unfortunately, we couldn’t set up a show due to Covid.”

A few moments later, he mentioned that he sees that a lot of love has been pouring from India. He also added that he loves Bollywood films. “I want you guys to know I’m seeing all the flags you’ve been putting in the comments. One day, I’ll go visit each and every place.”

He added, “India, I’ve heard there are a lot of ARMYs supporting us from India. Guys, I’m a fan of Indian movies, love the Bollywood films.”

As Suga expressed his desire to visit India, Twitter was flooded with messages from Indian fans of BTS as they could not contain their excitement. Many would recall that in 2020, a Mumbai tour of BTS had to cancelled owing to Covid and the lockdown. Since then a lot has changed and BTS as a band has announced its break so that the seven member group can concentrate on their respective solo careers. Two members are serving mandatory duties in the South Korean army.
Suga of BTS released his first solo album, D-Day, in April and since then has been touring America and Asia.

BTS members share heartfelt letters for the ARMY to mark 10th anniversary

The excitement on the tour bus was palpable. From young kids to grandmothers, the Australians had come to Seoul with one aim: to celebrate 10 years of their favourite K-pop band BTS.

Wearing novelty headbands and hats in the supergroup's official colour, purple, and brandishing huge cut-outs of their favourite members' faces, the fans -- from the Australian chapter of BTS's global following, known as ARMY -- burst into song.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, BTS!" the 28 people on the bus sang in unison, before segueing into enthusiastic covers of BTS's many hits, complete with lip-syncing and dance moves.

The fans are on a 12-day "BTS tour" of South Korea to mark the 10th anniversary on Tuesday of the group's debut. Organised in part by Seoul's official tourism board, their trip takes in a range of locations nationwide associated with the K-pop juggernaut.

First up on Tuesday: The main Seoul office of the group's agency HYBE, which has become a pilgrimage site for fans this week, and where a huge mural of the septet has been freshly painted on the wall outside.

"I am just happy that we are here right now, the Australian ARMY tour group... It's such a milestone to be here while the boys are celebrating their 10th year," Barbara Pena, a 48-year-old real estate agent from Sydney, told AFP in front of the mural.

Pena, the admin of the BTS Australia fan group, has been to South Korea four times previously, with each trip themed around BTS.

She estimated this trip cost participants around $5,000 per person, including flights. It was worth it, she said, because BTS "changed my life".

Discovering BTS had helped her realise she "could do so much more", including travel places she never imagined she would go, Pena said, rattling off destinations she had visited to see the band.

"And now I have so many of these memories and experiences I can share with my grandchildren," she added.

'Struck a chord'

On 13 June 2013 a seven-member hip-hop group put together by one of South Korea's smaller music labels debuted under the moniker Bangtan Sonyeondan -- or "bulletproof boy scouts".

The initial domestic reception was muted. Their name was seen as strange, and in South Korea's highly competitive music market, being repped by a smaller label meant they were squeezed out of the mainstream, forcing them to find fresh ways to connect with fans.

Gradually, as they broadened their musical style and increasingly went by the snappier name BTS, their albums started to rise up local and global charts. By 2018, their third album -- "Love Yourself: Tear" -- went straight to the top of the Billboard 200, prompting congratulations from the South Korean president at the time.

Their direct outreach to fans online, coupled with their heartfelt music, has won them legions of adorers like Pena, whose eyes well with tears when she thinks of the song that means the most to her: "Love Myself".
"There's a part that says, 'Why is it so hard for you to love yourself and easy for you to love other people?' and that struck a chord," she said.

Although the band is currently on a hiatus, with two members performing their mandatory military service, they released a new digital single last week and have thrown themselves into celebrating the anniversary.

-Family bonding-

Pena's tour, meanwhile, has already ventured far afield -- the Australians did six hours round trip on their bus to the eastern city of Gangneung to see a bus stop where BTS once posed for an album cover.

They have also visited a Korean barbeque restaurant that BTS eat at, and a cafe run by band member Jimin's father.
For Darrin Goodwin, 52, this was the undisputed highlight of the tour -- especially as Jimin's father gave him an unexpected hug after their chat.

"It was very very surreal and it was an honour and privilege," Goodwin said.

Goodwin told AFP that he was not originally a BTS fan, but his daughter Chelsea had got him into the band.

"I tried to convince my dad to listen to them but it didn't work until he heard a specific song, 'Dope'," she told AFP.

Now, the father-daughter duo say they do everything BTS-related together and credit their shared love of the band with bringing them closer as a family.

For Chelsea, 24, BTS is more than a K-pop group. They have made the world a happier place, she said, by teaching people "how to love themselves".

'Struck a chord' On 13 June 2013 a seven-member hip-hop group put together by one of South Korea's smaller music labels debuted under the moniker Bangtan Sonyeondan -- or "bulletproof boy scouts". -Family bonding- Pena's tour, meanwhile, has already ventured far afield -- the Australians did six hours round trip on their bus to the eastern city of Gangneung to see a bus stop where BTS once posed for an album cover. Explained: Why are BTS fans called the ARMY?

Big Hit Entertainment’s successful record producer and songwriter Bang Si-Hyuk officially consolidated the band in 2013. He did research prior to that for three years and had already thought of the name. So, the boy band members played no role in naming the band. The Purple Army's name also holds significance. ARMY stands for “Adorable Representative MC for Youth”. This means that ARMY is the military, while BTS is the armour, which is a symbol of how the band and its fans will always stick together. But, what does BTS mean? We are going to find out both the old and new meanings.

Old meaning

BTS translates to the Korean phrase Bangtan Sonyeodan, or the Bangtan Boys. In English, this means “Bulletproof Boy Scouts.” But BTS had to give a personal twist to everything and chose BTS with the intent of “resistant to bullet” when they first signed with Big Hit Entertainment to make an impact.

They did so because they realised the ill-treatment of youth at a global level. The youth was not taken seriously and was raised in an environment of unrealistic and unhealthy expectations. The youth was disregarded as weak and incompetent.

J-Hope reveals in an interview, “It has a profound meaning. ‘Bangtan’ means to be resistant to bullets, so it means to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim at adolescents like bullets, to preserve the values and ideals of today’s adolescents.”

New meaning

BTS branched out its meaning to something new in July 2017. They released a video showing a symbol of a door and thanking its fans for its success. The door meant, “Youth who don’t settle for their current reality and instead open the door and go forward to achieve growth.” Thus, the name “Beyond the Scene” is justified.

BTS turns 10! Ever wondered what BTS stands for?

Today is a significant day in Korean pop culture. If you're wondering why, it's because the most well-known South Korean band, BTS, just celebrated their ten-year anniversary. The nation unveiled a Special Commemorative stamp series to honour the K-Pop group.

South Korea celebrates 10 years of K-Pop megastars BTS

We often see BTS' fans, who are lovingly called Army, shouting "I purple you" as soon as RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook take over the stage. It's basically fans' way of saying, "I love you," using the K-pop band's signature colour. Fans also get the popular BTS phrase tattooed on their arm to show their love and appreciation for the 7-member boy band from South Korea. But have you ever wondered how BTS or the Army came up with the iconic motto? The origin story of the "I purple you" phrase is as interesting as the K-pop band's journey as global stars.

Today, the colour purple is synonymous with BTS but that wasn't the case always. In fact, their tie to the colour was totally accidental and unintended. Kim Taehyung, whose stage name is V, first said "I purple you" during BTS' third muster, an annual fan meeting held in November 2016.

To explain the reason behind using the colour "purple" instead of "love", V said, "Do you know what purple means? Purple is the last colour of all the rainbow colours, so it means I will trust and love you for a long time."

Later, however, V admitted that he completely made it up. "I just made it up," V said, before adding, "I wish I can see you for a long time, just like the meaning of purple. We'll always trust you and go up the stairs with you."

Halsey and SUGA's new collaboration is winning the hearts of the BTS Army. Many would recall that Halsey featured in BTS' ''Boy WIth Luv'' back in 2019. Her first collaboration with SUGA was in ''SUGA's Interlude'' - which was a deep cut from Halsey's previous album Manic. Now, in 2023 the duo have collaborated for Lilith (Diablo IV Anthem).
The revamped version of the song, 'Lilith' includes an original verse by SUGA and melodious harmonisation by the duo.
The song has topped 65 countries on the iTunes song charts and has become SUGA's 7th song to top iTunes US. The song also ranks #17 on Spotify with over 2.6 million streams.
This isn't the first time that Halsey and BTS collaboration has topped the charts. Earlier this year, 'Boys With Luv' joined Spotify's Billions Club. It is the first Korean language song to pass 1 billion streams. Two of BTS's English language songs, 'Butter' and 'Dynamite' also have over a billion streams.
Halsey and SUGA are known to be good friends. In an Instagram post, Halsey called SUGA her twin. She said, “I call SUGA ‘twin’ for a lot of reasons. We have the same smile, we have a lot of shared interests, and sometimes we even have the same haircut. But I mostly say it because we seem strangely (and sometimes wordlessly) connected on the same creative wavelength." SUGA responded by saying, “Twin??? I am a year older than you.”

She is originally derived from Mesopotamian mythology. She is believed to be Adam's first wife, before Eve.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, BTS will release the digital single Take Two this coming June. All seven members participated in Take Two. The song conveys their appreciation toward ARMY for all the love you shower them with and their desire to always be together with you." It also added, "We sincerely express our gratitude to ARMY for making the 10th anniversary possible with your endless love for BTS, and we hope that Take Two will become a precious Gift from BTS to you all. We ask for your love and support for Take Two. Release Date: 1 PM, Friday, June 9, 2023 (KST) Thank you." Needless to say, the announcement was greeted with excitement by the ARMY. Taking to Twitter, one fan posted, "TAKE TWO IS COMING, BTS IS COMING, BTS IS BACK, BTS NEW SONG IS COMING." A comment read, "Take two is a single that's mean we're getting photo concept too?? what if JIMIN BLONDE?" Also see: BTS 10-year anniversary: K pop band announces schedule chart for annual FESTA celebration BTS Festa Earlier, BTS officially announced the start of this year’s BTS Festa. On Weverse, BTS shared a colourful timeline, detailing this year’s events. The celebrations begin on May 31 and new content will release on June 2-3 and June 7-13. BTS has also planned events for June 14, June 16 and June 17. Even though the band announced last year that it was taking a break as a group to follow individual careers in music and serve compulsory military service, the seven-member band kept the tradition of celebrating the band's anniversary intact. RM, Suga, Jimin, V and Jungkook are busy with their personal projects. They have also been travelling across the globe for their tour and to complete individual commitments.

New pictures of BTS' J-Hope from military camp go viral, ARMY reacts

Reports of Saint Von Colucci, a 22-year-old Canadian-Portuguese actor working in South Korea's entertainment industry, dying after facing complications from plastic surgeries went viral last week. If a fact check by Al Jazeera is to be believed, the news was fake.

The actor actually never existed, according to the latest reports. He was only a figment of someone's imagination. And, Artificial Intelligence was reportedly used to bring the character to life.

This is among the first known cases of AI being used to trick people and media to spread misinformation, heralding the dawn of a new era of AI-generated fake news, according to Al Jazeera. Newly found evidence shows that the story was just an elaborate hoax, the channel said in a report.

How did it all start?

It all started when a PR agency called HYPE Public Relations shared a press release with journalists around the globe and announced the passing away of Von Colucci. The poorly-written press release was full of red flags and unfortunately, dozens of media outlets couldn't pick on them.

Daily Mail Online was the first media house to report the story. It was quickly picked up by other media outlets worldwide. The publication took down its article on Wednesday without posting any retraction notice on its site.

Wionews.com had carried a report based on the Daily Mail story, and has now removed the article.

How did it come to light?

Al Jazeera reported that several web links in the document don't exist. And, Von Colucci's supposed Instagram account was also not operational. The hospital mentioned in the press release couldn't be found either.

Coming to the PR agency that started the whole drama, it seems that HYPE's website was registered only a few weeks before Von Colucci's reported death and is still incomplete. Meanwhile, nobody answered the phone numbers mentioned on the site when Al Jazeera tried to contact them, said the report.

Apart from the press release, there is little to no evidence that Von Colucci is a real person. He has no online footprint and nobody from his family has come forward to mourn his death. The pictures that are available online are pixelated and don't look real.
