What does BTS or Bangtan Boys mean? Unexpected twist behind the K-pop band's name

BTS

The Korean pop fandom is celebrating 10 years of iconic boy band BTS. The name BTS stands for Bulletproof Boy Scouts. Ever wondered how they came up with the name? BTS has often been mistaken for "behind the scenes" and they have often corrected their fans for the same.Let's find out how the seven K-pop stars decided on their band name and what it really means!

Big Hit Entertainment’s successful record producer and songwriter Bang Si-Hyuk officially consolidated the band in 2013. He did research prior to that for three years and already thought of a name. So, the boy band members had no role to play in this.

BTS translates to the Korean phrase Bangtan Sonyeodan, or the Bangtan Boys. In English, this means “Bulletproof Boy Scouts.”

In an interview, band member J-Hope revealed, “It has a profound meaning. ‘Bangtan’ means to be resistant to bullets, so it means to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim at adolescents like bullets, to preserve the values and ideal of today’s adolescents.”

BTS consists of seven members - Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The band saw immense success in 2015 with the launch of their album The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1. Youth, their second studio album released in 2016, was also a massive hit.

Even the Purple Army has a meaning behind its name; A.R.M.Y stands for “Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth”. This means that ARMY is the military while BTS is the armour, which is symbolic of how the band connects with its fans.
