Murder in the Alps: Man suspected of killing a family takes part in crime-scene reconstruction

Perhaps because of this death of a gold medal-winning, landmine-sniffing rat is being mourned in Cambodia. The rat was awarded gold medal for his heroism for clearing ordnance from the Cambodian countryside. Magawa the rat's death was announced by his charity on Wednesday.

Magawa, a giant African pouched rat originally from Tanzania, helped clear mines from about 225,000 square metres of land -- the equivalent of 42 football pitches -- over the course of his career.

After detecting more than 100 landmines and other explosives, Magawa retired in June last year.

Magawa passed away "peacefully" this weekend at the age of eight, the Belgian charity APOPO, which trained him, said in a statement.

"All of us at APOPO are feeling the loss of Magawa and we are grateful for the incredible work he's done," the group said. 
APOPO said Magawa was in good health and spent most of last week playing with his usual enthusiasm.

But towards the weekend "he started to slow down, napping more and showing less interest in food in his last days," the charity said.

APOPO trained Magawa to detect the chemical compounds in explosives by rewarding him with tasty treats -- his favourites being bananas and peanuts. 
He would alert deminers by scratching the earth after using "his amazing sense of smell".

Magawa was able to cover an area the size of a tennis court in 30 minutes, something that would take four days using a conventional metal detector.

In September 2020, the rodent won the animal equivalent of Britain's highest civilian honour for bravery because of his uncanny knack for uncovering landmines and unexploded ordnance.

Not too far from the wolf pack is a bear, clearly distinct by its portly figure in the video. It may lack the aerodynamic, physical ferocity of the wolves but its hulking figure sure packs a punch. The bear appears so close to the wolf pack that it appears it's taking part in the hunt.

But it's wolves who score the kill. A meal well-deserved.

To make goldfish drive a vehicle on land was obviously a big challenge. In technical terms, this is called 'domain transfer methodology'. This examines whether a particular species is able to perform tasks outside its own environment.

The experiment was carried out by researchers from Ben-Gurion University in Israel. The team was led by Professor Ronen Segev.

For their experiment, the team created a water tank on wheels. The wheels could move in accordance with how the goldfish swam.

The researchers then taught the goldfish how to navigate the vehicle. The goldfish soon learnt to determine connection between their own movement and movement of the vehicle.

Then, a target was given to the fish. They had to navigate the vehicle in order to touch a pink board.

After only a few days of training, the goldfish were able to navigate the vehicle to touch the board. They could do so even when they were given different starting points in the room.

The researchers concluded that the sense of navigation was something very innate to animals irrespective of the species.

The device is called Taste the TV (TTTV). It uses a carousel of 10 flavour canisters that spray in combination to create the taste of a particular food. The flavour sample then rolls on hygienic film over a flat TV screen for the viewer to try.&nbsp;

The intent behind developing lickable screen is noble.

Meiji University professor Homei Miyashita says that this kind of technology can enhance the way people connect and interact with the outside world in the era of pandemic.

"The goal is to make it possible for people to have the experience of something like eating at a restaurant on the other side of the world, even while staying at home," he said.

We should all eat healthy. Out friends and family have tried telling us and given up (yep, look at that fat on you) But it appears fast food companies, who make us fat in the first place may have had an epiphany and have found a way to subtly nudge us towards eating healthy. Why else would a company making potato chips (or crisps if you are in UK) send a whole potato in the packet?

Such a thing happened to a man in UK. It is not known whether he chose to interpret the message the way we did and took healthy eating but like a good samaritan, he promptly put the photo online.

The image (of course) has been liked by hundreds.

In the picture, the man can be seen holding the packet of Cheddar and Red Onion chips and the potato.

Diver finds 900-year-old crusader sword off Israel coast

A 29-year-old man in Greater Noida near New Delhi has been arrested for allegedly abducting on-duty traffic policeman. The policeman had stopped the car to check documents.

It was suspected that the car had been stolen and the accused the cop to get inside to check the documents. But once the police official sat in the car, the accused started the vehicle and took the cop to over 10-km-long drive before dumping him near a police post, said officials.

"Accused Sachin Rawal had stolen the Maruti Swift Dzire from a showroom in Gurgaon, Haryana two years ago on the pretext of taking the car out on a test drive," a police spokesperson said.

"Rawal, who lives in Ghodi Bacheda village in Greater Noida, had put on a forged number plate on his car, the number of which was same as that of a car belonging to a resident of his village," he said.

"On Sunday morning, the traffic police had started a vehicle checking campaign in Surajpur where Rawal's car was intercepted for inquiry following an input that he was travelling in a stolen vehicle," the official said.

Traffic constable Virendra Singh had asked Rawal to show the documents related to the vehicle. Rawal asked him to get inside the car and that he would show soft copies of the documents which he claimed were in his mobile phone.

Just to be sure, apparently, a forensic doctor was called in and the prisoner was declared dead the third time.

Usual bureaucratic procedures kicked in, Jimenez was put in a body bag and kept in cold storage of the mortuary. His body was marked with scalpel marks to carry out the autopsy.

It was in the mortuary that physicians realised something was terrbly wrong. They heard sound of snoring.

The incident took place in Doral suburb west of Miami. The theft took place in Bath and Body Works store. The suspect who has not yet been identified, entered the store, filled his bag with candles and started spraying shoppers with bear spray.

About 35 people were affected. Some of them, including the store manager, were taken to hospital.

On Sunday morning our neighbours informed us about a theft in our house. We reached home and found that the thieves had decamped with Rs two lakh cash and jewellery worth Rs one lakh."
