Sri Lanka spinner Dunith Wellalage created history in Super Four clash on September 12 against India in Asia Cup by becoming the youngest Sri Lankan to take a five-wicket haul. Wellalage was the the chief architect of India's batting collapse which started in his first over and innings' 12th when he dismissed Shubman Gill with a peach.

After Gill, Wellalage dismissed big fish Virat Kohli before claiming wickets of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya as well. He finished with the figures of 5/40 in 10 overs and became youngest bowler to take five-for for Sri Lanka at the age of 20 years and 246 days. Rahul and Ishan Kishan did add 63 runs for the fourth wicket but Wellalage struck once again to dismiss Rahul. The collapse started soon afterward as India were reduced to 197/9 in 47 overs before the rain arrived. India's batting lasted only a bit after the game restarted as they were folded for 213 runs.&nbsp;

For Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka also took four wickets while skipper Dasun Shanaka chipped with one apart from Wellalage masterclass. For India, Rohit Sharma scored 53 runs while Rahul and Kishan contributed 39 and 33, respectively.

This is the third consecutive day India are playing cricket after their last game against Pakistan went into reserve day and got finished on Monday instead of Sunday. India had won the game emphatically by 228 runs after scoring 356/2 in their 50 overs and bowling out Pakistan for just 128.

Asia Cup: Dunith Wellalage creates history for Sri Lanka with five-for against India in Super Four clash

Pakistan coach Grant Bradburn is 'grateful' for the drubbing handed to his team by India in Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2023. It was Pakistan's biggest loss in terms of runs in ODIs against India as they lost the game by 228 runs while chasing 356.

"My gut feeling is that we are grateful for the gift that has been this last two days," Bradburn told reporters after the match.

"We don't get to play some of the best players in the world very often," he added. "We haven't lost a game of cricket for the last three months, so it's a timely reminder that we need to turn up every day, put in our best on the park, and it's actually a gift in the last two days we haven't done that."

The game was extended into the reserve day after rain interruption and Pakistan looked lost in all departments, something Bradburn agrees.

"We lost at all facets of the game," Bradburn said. "No excuses, we weren't good enough in the last two days."

India, thanks to skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill's fifties, had a great platform for other batters. After ending the first day on 147/2 in 24.1 overs, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul both hit sensational centuries on the reserve day as India piled on 356/2 in 50 overs.

Pakistan were never in the hunt as they kept losing wickets in regular interval, eventually folding down for a paltry 128. Kuldeep Yadav was India's ace bowler, picking up a five-for to help pack things quickly.

Apart from losing, Pakistan had more to worry about as their two premium pace bowlers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah didn't bat due to niggles. The duo is now doubtful for the remainder of the Asia Cup but the PCB insist the injuries are not serious in nature.

Asia Cup 2023: Team India dismantle Pak in Super Four clash as Virat Kohli, KL Rahul hit tons

Team India faced a big reality check at the Asia Cup 2023 on Tuesday, September 12 against Sri Lanka as Dunith Wellalage scalped a five-for at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Super Four clash started on a positive note for the record champions of the continent, but it was all Wellalage and Charith Asalanka who dominated after the first powerplay to help Sri Lanka restrict India to a low total.

Monday's hero Virat Kohli had an off day as he was dismissed for three while Rohit Sharma completed 10,000 ODI runs before he departed.

<h2>Wellalage wreaks havoc</h2>

Having chosen to bat first, the decision looked spot on for the Men in Blue as they scored 65 runs in the first powerplay. The pair of Rohit and Shubman Gill were seen in great nick before the latter was dismissed by Wellalage on his first ball of the match. Gill failed to judge the flight of the delivery and was nowhere near when he was castled on the first ball of the 12th over. The pair put together 80 runs for the opening wicket before the landslide of wickets started for India.

The 20-year-old did not sit back in his exploits as he got the better of skipper Rohit on 53 before striking big with Virat Kohli’s wicket. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya were then in the firing line as they were dismissed for 39 and 5 respectively. Wellalage’s impact left Team India in a spot of bother as they quickly went from 80/0 to 186/9, losing nine wickets in a span of 106 runs.

<h2>Asalanka joins Wellalage’s party</h2>

To add insult to injury, Asalanka was also seen in top form as he wrapped the tail before rain stopped play in Colombo. The right-arm off-break bowler got the better of in-form Ishan Kishan on 33 while later dismissing Ravindra Jadeja for four. Interestingly, he was on a hat-trick when he got the better of Jasprit Bumrah (5) and Kuldeep Yadav (0) on back-to-back deliveries.

At the time of writing, rain interrupted proceedings in Colombo as India were batting on 197/9 in 47 overs with Axar Patel (15) and Mohammed Siraj (2) in the middle.

Asia Cup 2023: Dunith Wellalage wreaks havoc against in-form Team India with five-for in Colombo

India went past Pakistan by 228 runs in their Super Four face-off in the Asia Cup 2023 edition on Monday (September 11) in Colombo. The match kicked off on Sunday (September 10) with Babar Azam-led Men in Green opting to bowl first. India rode on a solid 121-run opening stand between captain Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58) before Virat Kohli (122 not out) and KL Rahul (with an unbeaten 111) propelled India to a mammoth 356 for 2 in 50 overs. In reply, Kuldeep Yadav stole the show with a 5 for 25 to dismiss Pakistan for a paltry 128 in 32 overs.

After India's terrific display versus Pakistan, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar lauded Kuldeep and labelled him as the 'best spinner in town'. Akhtar was quick to point out that he failed to understand why the wily spinner was out of the Indian team across formats in the last few years.&nbsp;

<h2>'I could not understand why Kuldeep was out of the team'</h2>

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Akhtar said, “I could not understand why Kuldeep was out of the team in the first place. He showed that he’s the best spinner in town. Now India and Pakistan should meet in the final, where it will be a battle of attitude and nerves."

The former Pakistani pacer further added, “It was a well-deserved win for India, they played really well. What I liked the most was the attitude the Indian bowlers came out with. They wanted to take wickets and wrap the contest up quickly. That was a very encouraging sign for me as a fast bowler."

After the match, Kuldeep told the broadcasters, "Very happy at the moment. It is the consistency from the last one and half years, I have got my rhythm back and am enjoying my bowling. It is good to get five wickets, I am just thinking about bowling on a good length. It is amazing to get 5 wickets in ODIs or Tests. I have my plans when playing against the top sides. I have played against them (Pakistan) in 2019 and know their strengths, but I bowled to my strengths. I am focusing on bowling wicket to wicket, good sides try to sweep or slog sweep or sweep and give me a chance to get wickets."

It is to be noted that the 28-year-old Kuldeep is India's leading wicket-taker in ODIs in 2023, with 27 wickets after his splendid show versus Pakistan. He remains a vital cog for India in the remainder of Asia Cup and the upcoming ODI World Cup, which kicks off on October 05 in India.

IND vs SL Weather Update: Will rain wash out India vs Sri Lanka Super Four Asia Cup 2023 match in Colombo?

India's star batter Shreyas Iyer is out of the national side's Super Four face-off versus Sri Lanka, in Colombo, on Tuesday (September 12) in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 edition. Iyer had a back spasm just before the India-Pakistan clash, which kicked off on Sunday afternoon (September 10) and ended on Monday evening (September 11), on the reserve day. With Iyer out of action versus Pakistan, KL Rahul replaced him at the last minute and slammed an impressive 111 not out in India's big win over arch-rivals Pakistan (by 228 runs).&nbsp;

Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reported that Iyer will continue to sit out due to his back issues. Ahead of the Sri Lanka game on Tuesday afternoon, BCCI said in a statement, "Shreyas Iyer is feeling better but is yet to fully recover from back spasm. He has been advised rest by the BCCI Medical Team and has not travelled with the team to the stadium today for India's Super 4 match against Sri Lanka."

Iyer returned to the Indian team after a long time. In early 2023, during the home Border-Gavaskar Trophy versus Australia, the right-hander was deemed unfit due to his persistent back issues. While the Indian team management kept a close watch on his recovery, he missed a lot of action at the highest level before joining the Indian squad for the Asia Cup. Iyer played India's tournament-opener, versus Pakistan, where he looked good in his short stay (14) before his back issues resurfaced prior to the toss of the India-Pakistan Super Four clash.&nbsp;

With the ODI World Cup less than a month away from commencement, on October 05 in Ahmedabad, India, Iyer's fitness will be closely monitored by Team India. It is to be noted that all the participating teams can make changes to their 15-man squad until September 28.

Asia Cup: Shreyas Iyer 'advised rest by BCCI Medical Team' as star batter misses Sri Lanka face-off

Pakistan have been dealt a double blow as two of their three speedsters are under a cloud of doubt for the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023. The developments happened after the completion of the Super Four game against India which Men in Green lost by 228 runs.

Notably, Haris Rauf didn't bowl as a precautionary measure on the reserve day of the game because of pain in the right flank while Naseem left the field with a wrist injury towards the end of the Indian innings. Both players didn't come out to bat too as Pakistan&nbsp;folded for 128 runs in a chase of 357. Both the bowlers are now almost certain to sit out Pakistan's next game against Sri Lanka on September 14 and in the Final - given that Pakistan reach there, reports ESPNCricinfo.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, has said that the bowlers are not seriously injured and have not been ruled out of the tournament. The pacers though, would remain under the observation of PCB's medical panel. Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan, meanwhile, have been called as back-up for the injured pacers.

"This is only a precautionary measure keeping in mind the fitness and well-being of the players ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup next month," a PCB media statement said. "Haris and Naseem will continue to remain under the observation of the team's medical panel. The team management will only request a replacement from the ACC technical committee if Naseem or Haris are ruled out for the next seven days."

The game, which went on for two days, saw Indians dominate with both bat and ball, especially Kuldeep Yadav in the spin department. It was Kuldeep who made sure that the huge chase of 357 runs didn't get going for Pakistan at any point in the match as he finished with a five-for.

Asia Cup: Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah doubtful for remainder of tournament due to injuries

India thrashed Pakistan by 228 runs in their Super Four face-off in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 edition, in Colombo, on Monday (September 12). There were a lot of positives for Rohit Sharma-led Team India during their marquee clash versus the arch-rivals. While captain Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58)'s 121-run opening stand set the tone for India after they were asked to bat first, Virat Kohli (122 not out) and KL Rahul (unbeaten 111) propelled India to a mammoth 356 for 2. In reply, Pakistan were bundled out for a paltry 128 in 32 overs.&nbsp;

With the ball, Kuldeep Yadav shined with a 5 for 25 but Jasprit Bumrah also made an impression while bowling for the first time in ODIs since July 2022. While he only bowled five overs, he ended with 18 for 1, dismissing Imam-ul-Haq. Bumrah made his international comeback after a lengthy injury layoff (due to back issues). He made his comeback in the Ireland T20Is, last month in Dublin, and ended with four scalps to return with the Player-of-the-Match award. However, his ODI return was keenly awaited with the World Cup set to kick off early next month in India. Thus, his superb five-over spell versus Pakistan pleased many, including former Indian opener Little Master Sunil Gavaskar.

<h2>'Even a world-class batter like Babar Azam could not determine where the ball was going'</h2>

Speaking to Sports Tak’s Vikrant Gupta, Gavaskar lauded Bumrah and said, "Jasprit Bumrah was also in great rhythm. He was running in and swinging the ball both ways was some great bowling. Even a world-class batter like Babar Azam could not determine where the ball was going. This Indian team is ready and I hope they continue this rhythm in the Asia Cup and the World Cup."

Gavaskar further hailed India's all-round efforts and added, "If the game against Pakistan would’ve been washed out, there would have been doubts over India being able to reach the final. It was an all-round performance from India and they registered a fantastic victory against Pakistan. India completely dominated Pakistan."

India play Sri Lanka on Tuesday (September 12) in Colombo. Another win will confirm their spot in the Asia Cup 2023 final, which will be held on Sunday (September 17) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.&nbsp;

Asia Cup: Bumrah looked in great rhythm - Gavaskar lauds pacer after India's massive win over Pakistan

India rode on Virat Kohli's majestic 122 not out, KL Rahul's unbeaten 111 and Kuldeep Yadav's five-fer to dismantle Pakistan in the two-day Super Four clash in the ongoing Asia Cup on Monday (September 11). The match kicked off on Sunday afternoon (September 10) with Babar Azam-led Men in Green opting to bowl first at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Captain Rohit Sharma's 56 and Shubman Gill's 58 set the platform for India before, at 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs, persistent rain and&nbsp;wet outfield pushed the game to the reserve day&nbsp;on Monday.

On Monday, Kohli and Rahul's unbeaten 233-run third-wicket stand took India to 356 for 2. In reply, Kuldeep Yadav's 5 for 25 dismissed Pakistan for 128 in 32 overs to take the Men in Blue to a massive 228-run win, their biggest ODI win,&nbsp;in terms of runs,&nbsp;over the arch-rivals. After the clash, Rahul revealed the last-minute change of calls which led to him being added to the playing XI.

Rahul, who is returning to international cricket after a long gap following&nbsp;a hip injury, was not supposed to play the Super Four tie versus Pakistan. However, Shreyas Iyer -- another returnee from a long injury break (due to pertinent back issues) -- skipped the match due to a back spasm, forcing Rahul's early comeback in the XI.&nbsp;

Talking to the Asia Cup broadcasters, Rahul revealed how he was added to the final XI at the last minute. "You know once you come back from injury, it's really hard and I have had a lot of injuries in last few years so it's been very tough but when you have been sitting out for five months, watching matches on TV, you are ready to do anything after returning. Really happy that I could do the job for the team," Rahul said.

Rahul further added, "Five minutes before the toss, Rahul bhai came and told me that I might have to play because Shreyas got a back spasm. And I had not brought any batting gear, did not get my batting t-shirts, or skins. I had come only knowing that I would be carrying water and had brought only one full-sleeved t-shirt.&nbsp;So, at the last minute, the manager had to run to the hotel and get my stuff. But this has not happened for the first time, so mentally, I know what to do when I am thrown in the ring."

The Indian team management will be relieved with Rahul's fitness. The former white-ball vice-captain not only slammed an impressive 106-ball 111, laced with 12 fours and 2 sixes at&nbsp;104.72 -- but also kept wickets for the majority part of the Pakistan run-chase. It will be interesting to see if Rahul features in the playing XI for India's face-off versus Sri Lanka, on Tuesday (September 12) as Rohit &amp; Co. will be on the field for the third successive day.&nbsp;

Asia Cup: 'Rahul Dravid told me....': KL Rahul reveals last-minute call to play Super Four game vs Pakistan

Virat Kohli hit his 47th ODI ton against Pakistan in the Super Four clash in Asia Cup 2023 and with that, he broke several records. The modern master, on his way to his century, also became the fastest to 13,000 ODI runs, beating Sachin Tendulkar to the mark. He also equalled a unique feat in the 50-over&nbsp;game which previously had only been achieved by former South African batter Hashim Amla.

As soon as Kohli scored his century, he became only the second batsman in the world to hit four consecutive hundreds on a single venue which is R. Premadasa in Colombo in his case. Amla had scored four consecutive centuries in Centurion between 2015 and 2017.&nbsp;

Kohli scored 122 not out in the September 11 clash in Colombo and had scored 128*(119), 131(96) and 110*(116) in his previous three ODI outings. Amla, meanwhile, had scored 133, 124, 127, and 157 to become the first player ever to score four consecutive 100s at the same venue.

Kohli now has 13,024 runs in ODI and he has reached them in just 267 innings while Tendulkar, who previously held the record, had breached the 13K mark in 321 innings. Kohli is also only the fifth batter to reach the milestone behind Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya.

The 34-year-old is also two centuries behind Sachin's record of 49 tons in ODIs. Overall, Sachin has 100 international tons and Kohli is 23 short of equalling them. While Tendulkar scored 51 tons in Tests and 49 in ODIs, Kohli has 29 in Tests, 47 in ODIs and one in T20Is as well.

Thanks to Kohli's masterclass and KL Rahul's 111 not out, India posted a mammoth total of 356 runs in their 50 overs. Pakistan were never in the chase of the target as they bundled out for a paltry 128 runs, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav's five-for.

Team India was in top form in the Asia Cup Super Four contest on Monday, September 11 as they scored 356/2 in their innings. Veteran stars Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were seen in top form on the day as they dismantled Pakistan's bowling attack on a record-breaking day for Team India. While Virat got the limelight of the day with his ton, Rahul also made a statement with a blistering hundred against the arch-rivals. However, he did not take the gloves for Team India while he was expected to keep wickets.

<h2>Why Rahul did not keep wickets?</h2>

When Pakistan came out to bat in their innings at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, few were left surprised for Rahul as he opted to participate in the outfield duties. According to the team management plans, Rahul is still the first-choice wicketkeeper option to get&nbsp;Shreyas Iyer accommodated in the team. However, Rahul’s impressive knock for the team with an unbeaten 111 has seen him take a defensive approach.

With Ishan Kishan already a proven wicketkeeper option in the team, the management opted to use Rahul as an outfield player. This would give the Karnataka batter a well-deserved relief having batted for more than 30 overs during the batting stint.

The situation could be a good headache to have for Team India as Ishan has also been in red-hot form with the bat. Rahul’s impressive return with the bat on Monday could cement his place in the Playing XI for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

If Shreyas plays in the Playing XI, either Rahul or Ishan were to miss out on a place in the team. However, with both Rahul and Ishan in form and the latter also a wicketkeeper option, the former will enjoy the luxury of playing as an outfield player.

<h2>Virat completes 13,000 runs</h2>

On the flip side, Virat too was in excellent form as he brought his 77th international ton for Team India. He also competed 13000 runs in ODI’s and is the quickest to reach the milestone. He remained unbeaten 122 off 94 deliveries with his innings consisting of 9 fours and three sixes. He now resides within two hundreds of Tendulkar and could surpass him in the coming months as India have multiple ODI series and tournament to play.

India in their 50 overs put 356/2 as Pakistan will have a big run chase in hand when they take it to the batting duties. The match still has a good possibility of washout with rain having played spoilsport on Sunday.&nbsp;

Pakistan have been dealt a major blow on the reserve day of the Super Four clash of Asia Cup versus India on Monday (September 11). As play resumed on Monday, news broke out that Haris Rauf, Pakistan's express pacer, will not be bowling for the remainder of the Indian innings due to a precautionary measure.

Morne Morkel, Pakistan's bowling consultant, told the broadcasters, "He (Haris Rauf) started feeling his oblique muscle last night. He had a scan and it revealed some inflammation. With the World Cup round the corner, it is precautionary and we'll have to use the other boys to fill the overs. About yesterday's bowling, I felt that we weren't on the money from the get-go, and that's why we were hit for a few runs."

Rauf bowled five overs and conceded only 27 overs on Sunday (September 10) after Babar Azam-led Men in Green opted to bowl first in the Super Four clash. With him not bowling any further and Shaheen Afridi being out of sorts, Pakistan have struggled to contain the run-flow in the ongoing contest. They have used part-timer Iftikhar Ahmed, who has been taken to the cleaners by KL Rahul and Virat Kohli on the reserve day.&nbsp;

Talking more about the clash, India rode on an impressive 121-run opening stand between half-centurions Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (56) to take their side off to a flier. Post their departures, Kohli and Rahul have taken the score forward as the Men in Blue are on course for a big score in their opening contest of the Super Four round.&nbsp;

Speaking about Rauf, he was reportedly spotted carrying&nbsp;a water bag heater concealed under his shirt close to be abdomen and side. Thus, it might be a side strain for the pacer. The Men in Green have one more game left in the Super Four, locking horns with Sri Lanka on Thursday (September 14) in Colombo. Hence, they will keep a close watch on Rauf's fitness going forward in the multi-nation competition.

Rahul, who did not participate in the group stage of the Asia Cup due to a thigh issue, was seen in great touch against arch-rivals in the high-voltage clash. Virat Kohli also joined the party as he smashed his 47th ODI ton for India, two behind Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time tally of 49 in the format.

<h2>Rahul makes statement to return</h2>

Playing for the first time since early May, plenty of question marks were raised on Rahul’s fitness as he missed the West Indies and Ireland tour in July and August. His participation in the Asia Cup was also a big talking point, but all those questions were answered on Monday at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as he smashed his sixth ODI ton for the national side. Coming into bat in the 18th over, Rahul had plenty of critics to answer while his fitness issue was in question.

The former India vice-captain’s innings consisted of 12 fours and two sixes and India’s batting class excelled despite rainy conditions in the island nation. Rahul scored at a strike rate of more than 100 and showed aggression wherever required. Along with Virat, he stitched a 233-run stand for the third wicket as India dominated the Pakistan batting.

Asia Cup 2023: KL Rahul makes statement return to ODI set-up, smashes 111 vs Pakistan in Super Four clash

IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023: Rain battered the India-Pakistan match again on Sunday, leaving cricket fans dispirited. This was the second time in Asia Cup 2023 that the highly-anticipated encounter between India and Pakistan was interrupted by heavy rain in Colombo on Sunday (Sep 10).&nbsp;

The match kicked off at 3:00 pm with Pakistan winning the toss and choosing to bowl. India currently stand&nbsp;at 147/2 in 24.1 overs.

The previous encounter between the two arch-rivals yielded no result due to similar reasons. Only one inning could be played then, with the second being&nbsp;completely washed out.&nbsp;

Rain was already expected to interrupt the proceeding on Sunday but surprisingly the match kicked off on a bright and sunny day, raising the hopes of a full 50-over contest.&nbsp;

<h2>Where do India and Pakistan stand at the moment?</h2>

India currently stand&nbsp;at 147/2 in 24.1 overs, while Pakistan are yet to bat. Pakistan are already leading the table with a net run rate of +1.051 after defeating Bangladesh in their first Super Four stage match.

India, on the other hand, are playing their first Super Four match and would want to pocket a&nbsp;win, especially after the start provided by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Both batsmen slammed half-centuries and added 121 runs for the opening wicket.&nbsp;

<h2>IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023, Reserve Day: Weather report</h2>

It is not clear at this stage whether India will start losing overs if the play doesn’t resume at 3 pm. A reserve day was not originally part of the schedule and was included after the previous group stage match between India and Pakistan in Palleleke was washed out the previous weekend after the completion of one inning.

<h2>What happens on reserve day?</h2>

India’s Super Four match against Pakistan is the only Asia Cup game with a reserve day. Since the adverse weather suspended play on Sunday, the match will continue on the reserve day (Monday) with the same score.&nbsp;

It should be noted that a minimum of 20 overs are required to be bowled in the two innings to get a result. IND vs PAK: Weather update from Colombo on Asia Cup 2023 India vs Pakistan reserve day match

Remember that iconic six Virat Kohli hit off Haris Rauf during the 2022 T20 World Cup? Well, the star Indian batter almost pulled off a similar-looking shot against Naseem Shah during the fag end of India’s innings against Pakistan in Colombo. Kohli, who unlocked dual feats during his stay at the crease, smashed Naseem’s slower off-cutter straight to the long-on area for a massive six, bringing joy to everyone watching.

After hitting that six off Naseem, Virat inched closer to his hundred and reached the landmark in no time, completing 47 ODI centuries. The right-handed batter looked in no mood to stop as he smoked 122* off 94 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes.

Pakistan is Virat’s favourite opposition, as irrespective of the format, he likes scoring against them on big stages. How he single-handedly won the game for India during last year’s clash at the ‘G’, where after being reduced to 31 for four at one stage, Kohli hit a brilliant unbeaten 82 to guide his team home.

During that knock, he had hit Rauf for perhaps the most-toughest shot in the cricketing manual – hitting a fast bowler, bowling at over 140 kmph, over his head for a straight six. If that six didn’t hurt the Pakistan team and their fans enough, his latest hit off Naseem Shah will.

Such was the impact of that shot that Pakistan failed to make a comeback as they conceded 356 runs - most against India in an ODI game.

With India reeling at 147 for two in 24.1 overs, KL Rahul and Virat made most of this chance (Rauf's absence) and took the Pakistani bowling attack to the cleaners from the word go.

While at least until the 45th over, the pair scored slightly above run-a-ball, both changed gears after that, smashing each bowler to all parts of the ground.&nbsp;

KL, who returned to the Indian Team after a lengthy layoff, also completed his sixth ODI hundred, scoring 111* off 106 balls. The day commenced on Sunday (September 10) but due to rain and wet outfield, the proceedings were halted with India 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs after being asked to bat first. Talking about the Indian innings, the platform was set by openers Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58) as their 121-run opening stand took India off to a flier. Soon, they were reduced to 123 for two.

From thereon, Kohli and Rahul joined hands and their mammoth stand took the game away from Pakistan. Kohli accelerated towards the end whereas Rahul, playing his first international game since early 2023, never looked out of touch to slam his sixth ODI century. Meanwhile, Kohli struck his 47th ODI ton and 77th international century to remain unbeaten on a 94-ball 122*, striking at 129.79.

Speaking to the broadcasters after the Indian innings, Gill said, "Very special for us. He (Rahul) was playing his first match after coming&nbsp;back from injury and to be able to score a century in these conditions was pretty magnificent. Obviously&nbsp;Virat Bhai also completed his century and got to 13000 runs which shows his great inspiration to all of us. The ball was doing a little bit in the initial period&nbsp;and they also bowled well with the new ball, but it was important for us to take them on and put the bad balls away to put the pressure back on them. I think he (Shaheen) was trying to attack the wickets and I wanted to show intent, worked for me yesterday. There's a bit of seam movement and once the ball gets older we have to mix it up with slower ones, I&nbsp;found it difficult when they were mixing up their length and pace."

Asia Cup: India register their joint-highest ODI score vs Pakistan during Super Four clash in Colombo

India vs Pakistan Super Four clash in the Asia Cup 2023 entered the reserve day after rain interruption but not before Indian openers made merry of first 15 overs. Both skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill hit fifties as India added 121 for the first wicket. While it was Gill who took on the Pak bowing first up, Rohit loosened up a bit later and went on to break a Sachin Tendulkar record as well.

Rohit got out after scoring 56 - his eight fifth in the Asia Cup - one more than Sachin Tendulkar and now highest in the tournament. Speaking on his performance, former India coach Ravi Shastri praised Rohit for handling the initial brilliant spell by Naseem Shah and then pounding on every opportunity.

"There was a 10-ball phase from Naseem Shah at the start that beat him. He was trying to lay bat on ball but he could not. He went through that period and every time he got an opportunity today with anything remotely loose, he hit it over the boundary or to the boundary," Shastri said on Star Sports after the Super 4 match was interrupted by rain on September 11.

The game has now started on the reserve day, with India resuming from 147 for two in 24.1 overs when the game was stopped on Sunday. Captain Rohit Sharma and his fellow opener Shubman Gill hit respective fifties, while Virat Kohli (8*) and returning KL Rahul (17*) were at the crease when the game was paused due to rain.

At that time, India was dominating and looked like breaching the 300-run mark in this high-voltage clash. Taking down Shaheen Afridi was their best trick, but a tight spell from Naseem Shah kept them on bay inside the Powerplay. Rohit changed gears when Shadab was introduced to the attack, taking him to the cleaners.

Asia Cup: Ravi Shastri praises Rohit Sharma for taking on Pak bowlers despite early trouble in Super Four game

During the rain break of the India-Pakistan Super 4 Asia Cup clash, on Sunday (September 10), former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar stated that Indian all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are not in the same league as Yuvraj Singh. Manjrekar's statements came following former Pakistan speedster Waqar Younis' words of praise for Hardik and Jadeja.&nbsp;

"Look at what Hardik and Jadeja bring to the table. They are well equipped with both bat and ball. Especially Hardik Pandya - the way he batted against Pakistan - I think he is a really destructive batter at No. 6. Any team would love to have someone like him. He is aggressive, and now as we saw in the previous match, he is very sensitive and smart," Younis told Star Sports.

In response, Manjrekar stated that Yuvraj was on another level, referring to him as "India's best white-ball batter". In this regard, he commented, "Yuvraj is arguably India's best white-ball batter. He could win games and was in a different league. Hardik and Jadeja, with due respect, aren't quite there. These two are far better bowlers than Yuvraj Singh, but because of that, one discipline was so disciplined."

Talking about Yuvraj, he ended as one of India's finest white-ball cricketers, ending with over 8,500 ODI runs and was a key player in India's victorious campaigns in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup.

To this, the Pakistani intervened and asked, "Not even Hardik Pandya? With the kind of batting that he has shown? I am not comparing them but the intention is there."

Manjrekar replied by saying, "He has the potential but when I see him at this stage, it's not a guarantee that he will come and bowl all 10 overs like one of the mainstream bowlers. I see him as more of a batting all-rounder and he batted really well in the last game," Manjrekar said.

"So yes, they have this combined skill to make the kind of contribution made but one discipline of Yuvraj Singh, like I said, was at a different level. In pitches that help Jadeja the bowler, his batting will come through but Hardik the batter doesn't need a bad ball or loose ball to decide that this needs to go."

Both Hardik and Jadeja are an integral part of the Indian white-ball teams. The duo's form will be essential for India in the upcoming ODI World Cup, which kicks off in India on October 05. As of now, both have contributed to India in the ongoing rain-hit Asia Cup. Hardik top-scored for India in their group stage clash versus Pakistan (scoring an impressive 87) whereas Jadeja was India's top wicket-taker in their face-off versus Nepal (returning with 3 for 40).&nbsp;

Asia Cup: Yuvraj was in a different league, Hardik & Jadeja aren't quite there, claims Manjrekar

While India and Pakistan keenly wait for the rain to stop for the marquee Asia Cup clash to get underway on the reserve day in Colombo, the latest reports suggest a gloomy picture for the Men in Blue regarding this tournament.

Since all Super Four matches and the final will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in the capital city, the rain is likely to again play spoilsport in India’s next tie against co-host Sri Lanka at the same venue on Tuesday, September 12, trimming down their chances of qualifying for the final.

With rain predicted on Monday, chances of the India-Pakistan match getting underway, let alone going for the result, look bleak, meaning India could face trouble in making it to the top two after the end of the Super Four Stage.&nbsp;

While Sri Lanka (alongside Pakistan) already has one win (and two points) under their belt, even a washout against India would grant them one point, giving them an advantage over India (who would be on two points from two washed-out matches) in case of rain disruption on Tuesday.

At this stage, both Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be on three points each, and the winner of their clash will seal the top spot. On the flip side, India, with two points in their kitty, will hope the rain doesn’t spoil their chances during the game against Bangladesh on Friday, September 15.&nbsp;

If the rain stays away and India manages to beat Bangladesh, they will reach four points, enough to make it to the finals of Asia Cup 2023.

On Sunday, the India-Pakistan match got underway, with the Indian Team batting first. Unlike previously, when they got reduced to 66 for four at one stage after being asked to bat first, the picture was completely different this time.&nbsp;

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gil stitched a massive 121-run stand inside 17 overs, with both openers completing their respective fifties. Although they were looking strong to lay a foundation for a massive total, two quick wickets in consecutive overs broke the rhythm.&nbsp;

While Shadab Khan removed Rohit on 56 off 49 balls, Shaheen, who went for runs earlier, got the big fish Shubman Gill out on 58.

Before rain interrupted play in Colombo, India’s scorecard read 147 for two in 24.1 overs, with Virat Kohli (8*) and KL Rahul (17*) at the crease.
Outside of the final on September 17, a reserve day was added for the India vs. Pakistan Super Four game, which got activated after Sunday’s play was called off.&nbsp;

While India and Pakistan keenly wait for the rain to stop for the marquee Asia Cup clash to get underway on the reserve day in Colombo, the latest reports suggest a gloomy picture for the Men in Blue regarding this tournament.

While India and Pakistan keenly wait for the rain to stop for the marquee Asia Cup clash to get underway on the reserve day in Colombo, the latest reports suggest a gloomy picture for the Men in Blue regarding this tournament. Since all Super Four matches and the final will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in the capital city, the rain is likely to again play spoilsport in India’s next tie against co-host Sri Lanka at the same venue on Tuesday, September 12, trimming down their chances of qualifying for the final. With rain predicted on Monday, chances of the India-Pakistan match getting underway, let alone going for the result, look bleak, meaning India could face trouble in making it to the top two after the end of the Super Four Stage. At the coin toss of the India-Pakistan Super 4 meet in the ongoing Asia Cup, in Colombo, Indian fans were dealt with a major blow as Rohit Sharma revealed that No. 4 batter Shreyas Iyer is out of the clash due to a back spasm. Iyer returned to international cricket after a long gap after a back injury. So far, he got only one opportunity with the bat -- in India's tournament opener where he scored 14 versus arch-rivals Pakistan -- and, thus, was being keenly observed for the remainder of the competition. But his back concerns have resurfaced.&nbsp;

With less than a month left for the ODI World Cup, which kicks off on October 05 in west Indian city of Ahmedabad, Team India cannot afford to be unsure of their middle order due to Iyer's injury concerns.

Former cricketers 'Little Master' Sunil Gavaskar and Harbhajan Singh reacted to Iyer's persistent back issues during the Pakistan clash in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup.

Gavaskar told India Today, "It's a worry definitely. If a player is out for 5-6 months due to an injury and then has it again within a month before the World Cup, yes it is an area of concern. Luckily, you can make changes in your World Cup team, and in case he is unfit and doesn't recover then there will be somebody who will replace him. It is sad because he looked good in that match against Pakistan. He played a lovely cover drive."

Meanwhile, Harbhajan said, "Injuries are part and parcel of the game. But getting injured that often is either bad luck or you are making a position for KL Rahul. I think getting injured at this point in time is going to hurt his position in the team as well and make things correct for KL Rahul. It is very worrying that players are getting injured again and again and it is mostly to do with the kind of training they do. So that is the question NCA needs to answer because that is where players go and rehabilitate and train themselves. And what KL Rahul brings to this table is stability in the batting line-up."

Team India is expected to provide a detailed update on&nbsp;Iyer's fitness sooner than later. However, he will be closely monitored by the team management, as frequent injury concerns will surely not help his case so close to the ODI World Cup. All the teams can make changes to their squad until September 28.&nbsp;

Ind vs Pak, Asia Cup: Sunil Gavaskar, Harbhajan Singh have this to say on injury-prone Shreyas Iyer

Former India batter Mohammed Kaif has highlighted a key battle on the reserve day as Team India take guards at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo against Pakistan. The India vs Pakistan clash which was shifted to the reserved day of Monday, September 11 will see pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi against Virat Kohli with the duo in excellent touch. According to Kaif, the contest will be the highlight reel of the day as Virat and Shaheen look to provide an early advantage to their team on the reserve day.

<h2>Virat vs Shaheen to take centrestage</h2>

"Shaheen will continue to bring the ball in, bowling his inswing. He has told himself that his game plan is very simple, bring the ball in and fast, Whatever the batsman wants to do let him, his game plan is straightforward - bring the ball in, hit the pad, and hit the stumps. So it will be exciting to see Virat Kohli in the form he is in to take him on; it is the most key matchup of the game,” Kaif said while in conversation on Star Sports.

<h2>What happened in Group Stage</h2>

In the group stage encounter, Shaheen got the better of the former India captain as Virat was dismissed on 4, leaving the record continental champions in a vulnerable situation. The 34-year-old will have a score to settle with Shaheen when they meet on Monday as India will resume at 147/2. Rain played spoilsport in the contest for the second time in a week as the match needed to be moved to a controversial reserve day.

India had an excellent start to their innings as captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitched an opening stand of 121 runs. They attacked Shaheen with full throttle before rain halted play in Colombo. Rohit scored 56 while Gill departed for 58 as veteran stars KL Rahul and Virat took to the field. As things stand, Virat is batting on 8 off 16 while Rahul is batting on 17 off 28.

If the match gets washed out on Monday, both teams will get one point a piece while making it a must-win contest for India against Sri Lanka. India will play Sri Lanka on Tuesday with no rest day, which could be a big spanner in the work for India’s preparations.

Earlier, after the India-Pakistan first game got washed out, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), in coordination with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) – the original host of the tournament alongside BCCI, decided to add a reserve day for this game especially. The Indian Cricket Team that last played their Asia Cup match on September 4 against Nepal (Group game) will now be in action for three days on a trot. Having batted on Sunday, they will be back on the field on Monday (for the reserve day), and then India is scheduled to play their next Super Four game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, September 12, at the same venue.

Depending on the result against Pakistan, India could change their XI, considering providing rest to some players before the team returns to action to face Bangladesh in their last Super Four match on Friday, September 15.

<h3>India dominates in Colombo</h3>

After being asked to bat first, the Indian openers made light work of the best bowling attack in the world, taking them to the cleaners. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitched a 121-run stand for the first wicket, hitting respective fifties, while Virat Kohli (8*) and KL Rahul (17*) are at the crease.

India will resume play on 147 for two.

Asia Cup: Shaheen Afridi hands new-dad Jasprit Bumrah a gift following rain-hit day in Colombo – WATCH VIDEO

The marquee India vs. Pakistan clash in the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2023 has been called off on Sunday due to rain. The reserve day, added especially for this game, will now come into action as the contest will resume on Monday, with India beginning the day at 24.1 overs.

For the second time in a row, India-Pakistan game got interrupted by rain, as earlier during the Group Stage match on September 2 in Kandy, the game suffered a similar fate, disappointing millions of cricket fans all across. However, considering the peak monsoon season in Sri Lanka, especially in the capital city, the ACC, in coordination with the PCB – the original host of the tournament and the BCCI, decided to add a reserve day for the India-Pakistan Super Four tie in Colombo.

As everyone thought, the rain again played a spoilsport as the game got called off on Sunday. With no match possible on the given day, the reserve day was activated, and now both teams will resume proceedings on the next day at the same venue. India, who batted first after losing the toss, was on top of Pakistan, scoring 147 for two in 24.1 overs.

Captain Rohit Sharma and his fellow opener Shubman Gill hit respective fifties, while Virat Kohli (8*) and returning KL Rahul (17*) were at the crease when the game got paused due to rain.

At that time, India was dominating and looked like breaching the 300-run mark in this high-voltage clash.

<h2>Rain washes away thrill in Colombo</h2>

Eight days after arch-rivals faced off for the first time since that epic clash in Melbourne last year, the tensions were high as the Indian batters took on the best bowling line-up in the tournament for the second straight time. After what they had gone through during the first clash, getting reduced to 66 for four at one stage, the Indian openers upped the ante and unlocked the counter-attack strategy to gain an early advantage.

Taking down Shaheen Afridi was their best trick, but a tight spell from Naseem Shah kept them on bay inside the Powerplay. Rohit changed gears when Shadab was introduced to the attack, taking him to the cleaners.

Although both stitched a 121-run stand for the first wicket, Rohit and Gill returned to the pavilion in consecutive overs.

Virat Kohli looked composed, while KL Rahul didn’t disappoint on his first India outing in several months.

Meanwhile, with both teams now aware of the situation at hand, changing strategies before cricket resumes on Monday can benefit both.

Asia Cup: Play called off in Colombo, India-Pakistan match to resume on Monday as reserve day

The cut-off time for the rain-curtailed India and Pakistan clash at the Asia Cup on Sunday has been extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes along with the possibility of a 20-over run-chase scenario as well.

As per the latest updates, the cut-off time for the game for time is now 12 am (local time) and the 20-over clash between the two sides can begin as late as 10.36 pm (local time), ESPNcricinfo reported, adding that the next inspection will take place at 7.30 pm.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Indian head coach Rahul Dravid were on the field, inspecting the puddles of water&nbsp;left by the rain.

Earlier in the day, for the second time this Asia Cup, rain played spoilsport in a clash involving traditional rivals India and Pakistan, as the blockbuster Super Four clash at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo was halted after heavy showers forced the ground staff to bring on the covers.

India, given a flying start by the opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, were sitting pretty at 147 for the loss of 2 wickets when the heavens intervened.

However, before the teams were forced back to the dressing rooms, Rohit and Shubman put on a show smacking the Pakistani bowlers to all corners in a whirlwind partnership of 121 runs.

Shaheen Shaf Afridi and Shadab Khan claimed a wicket apiece to bring the Pakistanis back into the game after the India openers sent them on a leather hunt in the initial overs.

Rohit (56) fell to a soft dismissal off Shadab while Gill (58) perished in the next over, failing to read a slower one from Shaheen and lobbing a catch to Agha Salman at extra cover.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul then came together and looked to have stabilised the innings when rain interrupted play. Kohli (8)* and KL Rahul (17)* were undefeated at the crease when the umpires called a halt to the proceedings.

Earlier, in the tournament, both teams squared off in the group stage, with India posting a total of 266 in the first innings. However, rain washed out the game thereafter.

However, unlike the last clash, a reserve day was announced for the Super Four clash by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Friday.

If there is no further action in the Super Four clash on Sunday, the match will resume on Monday from the point where it was halted.

India will resume their innings from 147/2 in 24.1 overs, with Virat and Rahul unbeaten.

The cut-off time for the rain-curtailed India and Pakistan clash at the Asia Cup on Sunday has been extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes along with the possibility of a 20-over run-chase scenario as well.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Indian head coach Rahul Dravid were on the field, inspecting the puddles of water left by the rain. If there is no further action in the Super Four clash on Sunday, the match will resume on Monday from the point where it was halted. India will resume their innings from 147/2 in 24.1 overs, with Virat and Rahul unbeaten. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Asia Cup 2023: Cut-off time extended to 90 min, 20 overrun chase on cards between India vs Pakistan

Wasim Akram surprised Virat Kohli with his latest revelation. During the India-Pakistan Super Four pre-match chat on Sunday in Colombo, the veteran Pakistan seamer revealed Virat came into his dreams. Considering Virat Kohli is such a polarising figure in world cricket and outside of it, he gets more coverage than his contemporaries. Wasim said having watched so much of him recently, given the India-Pakistan match build-up, Virat came into his dreams.

The Pakistan legend admitted letting Virat know about this during their brief catch-up before the game got underway.

"Today, I walked past him and told Virat Kohli that you come in my dreams now. He replied saying, 'What do you mean Wasim bhai? I told him because I see so much of you on the television screen. I just can't get him out of my mind," Akram said.

Speaking on Virat and the superstars from both teams, Wasim pointed out three match-winners in Kohli, Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, adding players like them are meant for big moments like the India-Pakistan tie.

Wasim continued saying star players from India and Pakistan wish to perform, especially during this clash.

"Virat, Babar, Shaheen and all these match winners; they play this game for these moments – India vs. Pakistan. I mean, for Pakistan everybody wants to perform and vice-versa. This is just made or break. Not for guys like Virat Kohli and Babar Azam but for young guys. These games are fun. Yesterday, the whole Colombo was buzzing," Akram added.

<h2>India going strong in Colombo</h2>

The Indian Team batted first in Colombo, and unlike the last time, they began well against the best bowling line-up in the tournament. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill weathered the new-ball threat by taking the star-studded duo of Afridi and Naseem Shah to the cleaners. Though Afridi went for runs despite getting little swing, Shah was on point, keeping it tight from one end.

India’s opening pair, which in the previous outing, got reduced to 66 for four at one stage after winning the toss, stitched a 121-run stand. Both Gill and Rohit scored respective fifties but lost wickets in quick intervals.

Rain interrupted play in Colombo, with the scorecard reading 147 for two in 24.1 overs. Virat Kohli and returning KL Rahul are at the crease, batting at eight and 17, respectively.

Meanwhile, for India to cruise ahead into the final, they must win at least two of the three games in the Super Four stage. Following the Pakistan ODI, India will face Sri Lanka on September 12 and Bangladesh on September 15.
