Speaking to the media after the last Super Four game in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Gill said the instructions were clear on what to do and how to approach the chase on this track the other night. That's what as a batting unit and bowling group we are looking to overcome."

Following the nail-biting Super Four clash against Sri Lanka in Colombo, Babar raised concerns over not having a fully-fit pace department at the helm at the start of the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Having lost Naseem Shah to a shoulder injury during the India game in the Super Four and Rauf to pain in his sides in the lead-up to reserve day's play, Babar picked Mohammad Wasim and debutant Zaman Khan in the XI for the virtual knockout game against Sri Lanka, which they lost by two wickets and crashed out of the tournament.

When asked about the return timeline of Naseem and Rauf, Babar said the 20-year-old seamer could be out for an extended layoff, likely missing the 'initial few' games in the World Cup while Rauf is said to be recovering quickly and should be fit in time for Pakistan's CWC opener against the Netherlands on October 6.

Not telling you our Plan B now. But yes, Haris Rauf is not bad. He's just got a little bit of a side strain, but he's recovering before the World Cup."

"Naseem Shah also... they have a couple of miss matches, I don't know [how long] the recovery [is], but in my opinion, Naseem Shah also [will be] in the World Cup later on. But let's see."

Against India in their Super Four clash, Rauf played a little part during the first day's play but didn't return to the field on the reserve day owing to pain in his right side. On the advice of the team physio, Rauf stayed out of action in that game.&nbsp;

The left-arm bowler not only took a five-wicket haul but also scored 42 not out to give India a scare during the chase as well. The spinner also got the well-deserved Player of the Match award for his performance.

Wellalage, who took the wickets of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya, called Kohli the number-one batsman and said he was happy to dismiss both Kohli and Rohit.

“For me, Virat Kohli is the No. 1 batsman. I am very happy to have got those two (Kohli and Rohit) big wickets. I trust my basics, and trust myself,” said Wellalage at the post-match press conference.

Speaking on his strategy during the game, he said: "The batters were set and India had got off to a fabulous start. I just tried to bowl wicket to wicket. Once we got those three wickets in three overs, we were able to put India under pressure.

“There was turn and when you put the ball in the right area, you could unsettle the batsmen. But I would have been happier with a win,” said Wellalage.

Chasing 214, Sri Lanka were six down for 99 before Wellalage shared a crucial 63-run partnership with Dhananjaya de Silva to revive Lankan fans' hope. While the dream of a win couldn't materialise, the partnership did give India a scare.

“I just tried to support him (de Silva). We didn’t want to take any risks. His plan was to try and get closer to India’s total,” Wellalage said.

Sri Lanka will now be playing against Pakistan on September 14 in a virtual semi-final for a place in the title clash against India and Wellalage is hopeful of a Lankan win.

“We have played four matches so far and we are happy that we have won three of them. The larger picture is that we have got one more game remaining.

“We still have a chance to make it to the finals, and hopefully we will pull it off,” he added.

Bangladesh is out of the race for a spot in the Asia Cup final, but captain Shakib Al Hasan feels they can still end the tournament on a high. Hit by an array of injuries to senior players and a few match winners, Bangladesh had limited resources to turn fortunes and stay ahead of the cricketing giants. But as fate would have, they fell shy, failing to convert their chances into wins during the Super Four stage.

Speaking to the media ahead of Bangladesh's final match in this six-team tournament, Shakib said he alone is not responsible for the team finding results, as everyone playing at this level knows their roles and must play accordingly if Bangladesh is to stand tall.&nbsp;

He added the focus remains on the collective team effort as Bangladesh will aim to upset India and head into the dress rehearsal - the home three-match New Zealand ODIs, with their heads high.

Upon being asked if there is something the Bangladesh team is looking forward to against India despite this game being a dead rubber, Shakib said,&nbsp;"Yes, there are things to gain. If we can win the last match before returning to the country, it would be a good thing. We don't want anything else from the match, just the win will do."

Having a talented pool of youngsters, the Bangladesh team was happy to give chances to some budding youngsters during this Asia Cup. While the absence of seasoned campaigners like Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim didn't leave them much of an experienced XI to go ahead with, the presence of emerging stars would keep them alive in the contest against India.

Speaking on the same lines, the bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, who worked with Tilak since the Under-19 days, said with him bowling some spin in this additional training session, the decision makers can look into playing him at some point if required.

"We have been working with Tilak since the Under-19 days," Mhambrey said after training. "I felt that when we had gone to South Africa for Under-19 (World Cup), he had a bowling skill that we could definitely use, and so we have been working on that consistently."

On Tuesday (September 12), India beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs in a crucial Super Four clash, in Colombo, to book a spot in the Asia Cup 2023 final. Batting first, India were 80 for no loss before the Sri Lankan spin duo of&nbsp;Dunith Wellalage (5 for 40) and Charith Asalanka (4 for 18) reduced them to 186 for 9. Eventually, Axar Patel's 26 led India to 213 all-out in 49.1 overs after Rohit Sharma's 53 and KL Rahul's sublime 39. In reply, Sri Lanka folded for 172 in 41.3 overs with Kuldeep Yadav starring with the ball (4 for 43).&nbsp;

Throughout the contest, India were tested. While their batters were clueless versus the SL spinners, they somehow managed to go past the 200-run mark. While defending 213, Indian bowlers started on a positive note with Jasprit Bumrah striking twice whereas Md Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja also added to SL's woes. On Tuesday (September 12), India beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs in a crucial Super Four clash, in Colombo, to book a spot in the Asia Cup 2023 final. Batting first, India were 80 for no loss before the Sri Lankan spin duo of Dunith Wellalage (5 for 40) and Charith Asalanka (4 for 18) reduced them to 186 for 9. Eventually, Axar Patel's 26 led India to 213 all-out in 49.1 overs after Rohit Sharma's 53 and KL Rahul's sublime 39. In reply, Sri Lanka folded for 172 in 41.3 overs with Kuldeep Yadav starring with the ball (4 for 43). Throughout the contest, India were tested. However, they need nothing less than a win to proceed to the final when they face hosts Sri Lanka, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, following the India hammering.

Talking about the India game, which was a two-day affair due to rain and wet outfield, Morkel said in the SL pre-match presser, "After the India match, we were bitterly disappointed. For me, it is very important for the bowlers to do a bit of self-reflection, ask yourself the hard questions. Yes, credit must also go to the Indian batters."

He further asserted, ''They put us under pressure early. Those are fantastic lessons for us before the World Cup. We are gonna grow from this and come back stronger."

They will be the first to put up their hands when it is needed. They are all match-winners and experienced players. They know how to make comebacks."

Babar-led Pakistan have a herculean task versus Sri Lanka, who have in-form spinners in Dunith Wellalage (who claimed 5 for 40 versus India), Maheesh Pathirana, Charith Asalanka, etc. in their ranks. Bangladesh are no longer in the race for the final having lost to Sri Lanka by 21 runs and Pakistan by seven wickets. This leaves both Pakistan and Sri Lanka scrambling for the other spot in the final.

Despite losing to India by a record margin, Pakistan’s net run rate won’t be an issue if they are to reach the final. The Sri Lanka vs Pakistan clash on Thursday will be a virtual semifinal, with the winner going through to the final. While Sri Lanka sit second in the Super Four standings, they will be replaced by Babar Azam’s men if they get the better of them. A win for Sri Lanka will also see them reach the final for the second year running as they will end at&nbsp;four points.

However, in case of a washout, the points will be shared and Sri Lanka will qualify on a superior net run rate (NRR). Sri Lanka have a NRR of -0.200 while Pakistan's NRR is -1.892.&nbsp;
