Apple is giving its Health app a major redesign, introducing AI-powered features that could help users understand how their bodies are ageing and track their fitness more closely. The update will include a new Health Age feature, personalised health insights and fitness assessments that use an iPhone camera and Apple Watch. The changes aim to turn the Health app into a more detailed health and fitness companion, bringing information about sleep, heart health, physical activity and other measurements together in one place.
Apple Health Age: Can your Apple Watch estimate how old your body is?
One of the biggest additions is Health Age, a feature designed to estimate how a person's health is progressing compared with their actual age. It will analyse measurements from an Apple Watch, including VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep patterns and heart rate variability. Users will also be able to add laboratory results, such as HbA1c and LDL cholesterol, to provide more health information. The feature is part of a new Longevity tab, which will bring together indicators related to heart health, sleep, mental wellbeing, physical activity, metabolism, hearing and nutrition.Health Age is an estimate based on selected health indicators. It should not be treated as a medical diagnosis or a definitive measure of biological age.
iPhone camera to assess fitness at home
Apple is also introducing movement assessments that users can perform without specialised fitness equipment. The feature will use an iPhone camera and Apple Watch to assess areas such as strength, flexibility, balance, movement patterns and VO2 max. This could make it easier for users to monitor certain aspects of their physical fitness at home rather than relying entirely on gym equipment or external assessments.New Insights tab brings health data togetherThe redesigned app will introduce an Insights tab covering heart health, sleep, fitness, readiness, vital signs and menstrual cycle tracking. A separate For You section will offer recommendations based on users' health information and daily routines.Apple also plans to expand language support to include global English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese.
When will the redesigned Apple Health app arrive?
According to the supplied information, the redesigned app is currently available through the iOS 27.3 developer beta. Apple plans to release it as a free software update later this year. The Health Age feature will require an Apple Watch, while some features will be restricted to users aged 18 and above. The update signals Apple's growing focus on health tracking, with the iPhone and Apple Watch working together to provide users with a broader picture of their wellbeing.

Apple has acknowledged that some iPhone Duo units are dealing with a cracked inner display, days after early buyers began sharing photos of screens breaking along the hinge. The company says the problem affects “a small number of iPhone Duo units” and has asked users facing it to contact AppleCare for a replacement.

Apple has introduced a two-unit-per-customer purchase limit for its new iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in India, according to the supplied report. The restriction comes as the company prepares to begin selling its first foldable iPhone on October 23, following pre-orders that opened on October 16.Customers attempting to order more than two units through Apple’s online store reportedly see a message stating that a maximum of two iPhone Duo devices can be purchased per customer. Similar restrictions have been reported in the US, China, Singapore and Hong Kong.Apple has not officially explained the reason for the cap. However, the timing has drawn attention amid reports of strong demand and delivery dates stretching into January.
Why Is Apple Limiting iPhone Duo Purchases?
Purchase limits are not new for Apple. When the original iPhone launched in 2007, the company also restricted customers to buying two units, partly to discourage resellers. The current limit could serve a similar purpose by preventing a small number of buyers from purchasing large quantities of devices and reselling them. However, that remains an explanation rather than a confirmed reason for the latest restriction. The rule also applies to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, meaning customers cannot assume the limit is exclusive to Apple’s new foldable device.
iPhone Duo Demand: Delivery Dates Stretch Into January
The purchase cap comes as reports point to strong demand for the iPhone Duo shortly after pre-orders began. Some delivery estimates have reportedly stretched into January, suggesting that customers ordering later may face longer waits. In Japan and South Korea, the launch arrangements are reportedly stricter. Buyers must book store collection in advance for the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with walk-in purchases unavailable at launch. These measures indicate that customers in some markets may need to plan ahead if they want to get the devices on release day.
Can Apple’s Foldable iPhone Challenge Samsung?
The iPhone Duo could also reshape competition in the foldable smartphone market. Counterpoint Research previously projected that Apple could capture around 25% of the global foldable market, compared with 38% for Samsung and 22% for Huawei. The research also projected that Apple could ship nearly six million iPhone Duo units in 2026, despite a reported starting price of around ₹3 lakh in India. These figures are forecasts, not confirmed sales results. Still, Apple’s entry could increase consumer interest in foldable phones and intensify competition among established manufacturers. For Indian buyers, the immediate takeaway is straightforward: the reported online purchase limit is two units per customer, and availability may vary as the launch approaches.

Apple could be preparing one of its biggest changes to the MacBook lineup in years. The company is reportedly set to introduce its first MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreen displays later this month, potentially bringing touch input to a laptop range that has traditionally relied on a keyboard and trackpad.According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple may announce the new models on October 27 or 28, with sales expected to begin on November 6. The company has not officially confirmed the launch dates or specifications. The reported timing comes after Apple introduced its first foldable iPhone Duo, as the technology giant continues to expand its product lineup.
Apple MacBook Pro With OLED Touchscreen: Expected Launch Date
The new MacBook Pro models could be unveiled on October 27 or October 28, according to Gurman’s report. While this could be connected to the upcoming laptop launch, it does not independently confirm the products or their release date.Apple is also reportedly planning a creator-focused gathering in Los Angeles to introduce upcoming products. A traditional launch event has not been confirmed. Gurman has indicated that Apple will announce the products in some form, potentially using video presentations.
OLED Touchscreen Could Be The Biggest Upgrade
The main expected change is the move to an OLED touchscreen display. Apple has so far kept touch input out of its MacBook lineup, even as many Windows laptops have offered touchscreen functionality. OLED technology could also help distinguish the new models from existing MacBook Pro versions with mini-LED displays. However, the exact screen specifications, pricing and other hardware changes remain unconfirmed. For users, the addition of touch input could offer another way to interact with apps and on-screen controls. How Apple implements the feature, and how well it works alongside the traditional keyboard and trackpad, will be important details to watch.
Will Apple Introduce New M-Series Chips?
Not necessarily. The report suggests the upcoming touchscreen models may continue using the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips found in the current MacBook Pro lineup, rather than introducing new processors. Apple is also reportedly preparing other products, including an OLED iPad mini, an M6-powered iMac and an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip. There has also been speculation that Apple could call the OLED touchscreen laptops the MacBook Ultra. However, Gurman has since suggested they are more likely to remain part of the MacBook Pro family. For now, the launch dates, product names and specifications remain unconfirmed. If the report is accurate, Apple could soon bring touchscreen technology to its flagship laptop line without necessarily introducing a new processor generation.

OpenAI has accused Apple of becoming entangled in a trade secret dispute after alleging that a former employee took more than 100 confidential files to the iPhone maker. According to Reuters, the ChatGPT developer claims the employee later presented the unreleased product to senior Apple executives. The allegations were made in a new court filing as the legal dispute between the two technology companies continues. OpenAI says it is concerned that confidential information could influence Apple's future AI and consumer hardware products. Apple has denied the claims and said it found no evidence to support them.
What has OpenAI alleged against Apple?
OpenAI's filing claims the presentation to Apple executives took place several months ago. The company argues that information about its unreleased product could now be accessible to Apple engineers working on competing technology. In the filing, OpenAI said it was concerned that its trade secrets and confidential work could circulate inside Apple and shape the company's upcoming products.OpenAI also pointed to Apple's recently released HomeView as an example of its growing efforts to develop its own AI products. However, the allegations do not establish that Apple used OpenAI's confidential information to develop HomeView.
Apple denies receiving confidential files
Apple has rejected OpenAI's allegations, saying its investigation found no supporting evidence. The company says it follows established procedures designed to prevent new employees from bringing confidential information from previous employers.Apple's lawyers also questioned the significance of two personal phone numbers identified by OpenAI. They said the numbers did not match those the employee used for work at Apple, raising questions about whether Apple received or controlled any data sent to them during the employee's time at OpenAI.The competing accounts mean the central question remains unresolved: whether confidential material was transferred and whether Apple received or used it.
Court allows Apple to seek digital evidence
The dispute has also advanced through the US legal system. Earlier this week, US District Court Judge Edward Davila partially approved Apple's request to obtain digital evidence from OpenAI as part of the case. The ruling marks a step in the evidence-gathering process, but it does not establish whether OpenAI's allegations are true. The case comes as Apple and OpenAI operate in an increasingly competitive AI market. Its outcome could have implications for how technology companies protect trade secrets when employees move between rivals. For now, the allegations remain contested, and the court proceedings will be important in determining what happened.

One of Apple's earliest computers is heading to auction, with a rare Apple-1 expected to fetch up to $800,000. Bought by its original owner in 1976, the machine is signed by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and comes with a letter signed by Steve Jobs. With fewer than 75 verified Apple-1 computers believed to survive today, the working machine offers a glimpse into the early days of personal computing, when buyers still had to add their own monitor, keyboard, power supply and case. As Apple marks 50 years, we look at the history behind one of its most important early computers and why collectors are willing to pay so much for it.

Apple has reached a deal to bring in staff and technology from Huxe, an AI audio startup that recently announced it was shutting down. A filing with the European Commission says Apple has agreed to make employment offers to certain Huxe employees and obtain a non-exclusive licence to the startup’s intellectual property. The agreement could give Apple access to expertise in personalised, AI-generated audio as competition grows around podcasts and other audio experiences. However, Apple has not disclosed its plans for the technology, and the filing does not identify the employees involved or confirm whether they have accepted the offers. The deal was first reported by MacRumors.
What is Apple getting from Huxe AI?
Huxe was founded by developers who had previously worked on AI-generated podcast features in Google’s NotebookLM, now renamed Gemini Notebook. The startup developed a personalised audio product, but announced on May 21 that it would discontinue the service. It said the app would be removed from Apple’s App Store and Google Play, its service would stop, and user data would be deleted.“The team is moving on to new things, and we won’t be continuing development of the product,” Huxe said in its shutdown announcement. Apple’s agreement covers job offers to certain employees and a non-exclusive licence to Huxe’s intellectual property. That means the deal does not, on the information disclosed, amount to a complete acquisition of the startup.
Why Apple’s AI audio deal matters
The agreement comes as technology companies explore ways to use AI to create audio tailored to individual listeners. Apple could potentially use the team’s expertise in its Podcasts app or other services, but it has not confirmed any such plans. The possibility is notable because Spotify unveiled AI-powered podcast generation features shortly before Huxe announced its closure. The timing highlights growing competition to use AI to change how people discover and consume audio. Yet it remains unclear whether listeners will embrace personalised, AI-generated programmes as an alternative to conventional podcasts.
What is a reverse acqui-hire?
The deal resembles what is often called a reverse acqui-hire: a company hires selected staff and licenses technology from a startup without buying the entire business.Such arrangements can help larger companies gain specialist talent and technology. They can also differ from a full acquisition in how ownership and control are structured.Apple’s European Commission filing does not reveal who received offers, whether they were accepted or what the company intends to do with Huxe’s technology. For now, the agreement signals Apple’s interest in Huxe’s people and intellectual property, rather than confirming a new AI podcast product. Any effect on Apple Podcasts will depend on what the company chooses to develop next.

Apple has reportedly cut component orders for its newly launched iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max by at least 15% for October, as rising memory chip costs and higher prices put pressure on demand, according to Nikkei Asia. The report, which cited multiple people familiar with the matter, said Apple had become more cautious about shipments since early September. If confirmed, the move could signal a change in the company’s production plans at a time when technology firms are competing for increasingly expensive memory chips. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours.
Why is Apple reportedly cutting iPhone 18 Pro orders?
According to Nikkei Asia, Apple has asked some suppliers to reduce production of components for its two premium iPhone models. Orders for October were reportedly at least 15% lower than initially requested. The report comes amid concerns about softer device demand between late August and October. However, Nikkei Asia noted that the trend could also be linked to changes in Apple's iPhone launch schedule. The reported reduction therefore does not, by itself, establish that consumers are rejecting the latest iPhones.
How rising memory chip costs are affecting Apple
The global race to build AI data centres is increasing demand for advanced chips and memory components. Technology companies are securing supplies to power AI systems, contributing to shortages and price increases across the industry.Apple has also been adding AI capabilities to its products, increasing the strategic importance of high-performance memory. In June, the company raised prices for iPads and MacBooks, saying it could no longer fully shield customers from rising memory and storage costs.
iPhone 18 Pro prices have also increased
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299, according to the supplied report. Both starting prices are $100 higher than those of their iPhone 17 Pro counterparts. Higher prices could make some buyers more cautious, particularly if they are considering upgrading from an older device. However, the reported component cuts do not prove that price increases alone caused the change in orders.
What could this mean for iPhone buyers?
The reported production adjustment highlights how the AI boom could affect everyday consumer electronics, not just data centres and specialist computing hardware. If memory costs remain high, manufacturers may face difficult choices between absorbing higher expenses, raising prices or adjusting production. For buyers, that could mean more expensive devices or fewer attractive upgrade deals. For now, the reported 15% reduction remains unverified by Reuters, and Apple has not publicly confirmed the supplier order changes. The extent of any effect on iPhone availability or future pricing is therefore unclear.

Apple is reportedly preparing to expand beyond its upcoming home hub with a much wider range of smart home accessories. According to a fresh Bloomberg report, LG Electronics is developing several devices that could work with Apple’s home hub and other Apple products, including security cameras, a video doorbell, thermostat and smart lock. The reported partnership could give Apple a broader presence inside the home without requiring the company to manufacture every new accessory itself. LG is said to be handling much of the manufacturing and product support, while Apple could influence the design, features and engineering of the products.
Apple and LG reportedly developing seven devices
The reported range is extensive. According to Bloomberg, LG is developing a wired video doorbell, thermostat, smart deadbolt lock, temperature sensor, indoor security camera, outdoor security camera and floodlight camera. The devices reportedly appeared in documents submitted by LG to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and UL Solutions. Apple is not named in those filings, and LG has reportedly requested confidentiality for some information. That means the reported Apple connection has not been formally confirmed through the regulatory documents themselves.
Smart home devices could work with Apple’s ecosystem
Several of the reported LG devices are said to support connectivity technologies including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread and Matter. The smart lock could be particularly interesting for Apple users. It is reportedly equipped with Ultra Wideband (UWB), a technology that could support proximity-based features such as automatically unlocking the door when a compatible device is nearby. If these products eventually launch as part of Apple's ecosystem, they could give users a more connected experience across security, climate control and home access.
Apple’s home push could grow beyond the hub
Apple is expected to unveil several home-focused products on October 13, including its rumoured home hub, a new Apple TV 4K and an updated HomePod mini. However, consumers may have to wait longer for the reported LG-made accessories. Bloomberg says the products are not expected to become available for several months. The reported partnership would also represent an interesting expansion for LG. The company is already a major player in televisions, appliances and consumer electronics, but products such as smart locks and security cameras would take it deeper into the connected-home accessories market. For Apple, meanwhile, the strategy could help build a more complete smart home ecosystem around its existing devices without taking on the entire manufacturing and support burden itself.

Apple is introducing additional controls around Full Disk Access on macOS as concerns grow over how AI agents can access sensitive information on a Mac. The company says the change is aimed at making users more clearly understand what they are allowing when they give an app this powerful permission. The move comes days after a report claimed Meta’s Muse AI app accessed private messages on a Mac. Meta disputed the claim. The issue nevertheless highlighted a wider concern: desktop AI agents can be given access to files, messages and other personal information to perform tasks with less human intervention.Apple says it is not simply removing Full Disk Access. Instead, it plans to require more explicit user action before an app can receive the permission.
Why Apple is changing Full Disk Access
Full Disk Access is a powerful macOS privacy setting. When granted, it can allow an application to access information such as files, Mail data, Messages and browsing history. The permission was originally designed to support legitimate functions, including certain backup tools. But Apple now says some developers are using it in ways that could expose large amounts of information without users fully understanding the consequences.“Some developers are using Full Disk Access in ways that could put users at risk,” Apple said. The company specifically pointed to the growing capabilities of AI agents as an additional concern.
AI agents make the risk more important
Unlike traditional apps, AI agents can perform tasks on a user's behalf. That can mean reading documents, searching files, interacting with applications and carrying out multi-step actions. This makes broad system access more significant. If an agent has access to more information than it needs, a mistake, security flaw or malicious instruction could potentially expose sensitive data. Apple said the risks could increase as AI agents become “increasingly capable and autonomous”. The announcement also follows a separate report about a flaw in OpenAI’s ChatGPT Mac app that could potentially have exposed sensitive information.
What Mac users should know
The change does not mean Full Disk Access is disappearing. Users who genuinely need to give an application this level of access should still be able to do so. The key difference is informed consent. Apple says future controls will make the decision more explicit, helping users understand that granting Full Disk Access can give an app access to highly sensitive information. For Mac users, the development is a reminder that AI convenience can come with a privacy trade-off. Giving an AI agent access to an entire computer may make some tasks easier, but it can also give the software visibility into far more personal information than the task actually requires. As AI agents become more autonomous, the question may no longer be simply what they can do but how much of your digital life they should be allowed to see.

The device starts at Rs 2,99,900 in India and will be available from October 23, 2026. Pre-orders open on October 16. The iPhone Duo is a major change for Apple’s smartphone line-up. It combines a conventional outer screen with a much larger foldable display, while retaining features such as Apple’s A20 Pro chip, ProMotion and Apple Intelligence. iPhone Duo price and sale date in India The 256GB version of the iPhone Duo costs Rs 2,99,900 in India. Apple will also offer 512GB, 1TB and 2TB variants, priced at Rs 3,24,900, Rs 3,74,900 and Rs 4,49,900 respectively. The phone comes in Star White and Night Sky finishes. Pre-orders will begin at 5:30pm IST on October 16, with sales starting October 23 through Apple and selected retail partners. Two displays in a foldable design The biggest attraction is the display. The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display when folded. Open it up and users get a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR folding display with ProMotion and Always-On functionality. Apple says the larger screen is designed for multitasking, gaming, watching content and using apps across different orientations. The phone uses a titanium frame and hinge cover, while Apple has also developed a dual-battery system and advanced thermal management for the foldable design. A20 Pro chip and 48MP cameras Under the hood, the iPhone Duo runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip. It has a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and Neural Accelerators. For photography, the phone gets a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, combining a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. There is also a 12MP Centre Stage front camera for selfies and video calls. Battery life is another key focus. Apple claims up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display and up to 44 hours using the outer display. With the iPhone Duo, Apple is entering a category already dominated by foldable rivals. Its nearly Rs 3 lakh starting price makes it a premium proposition, but the launch could reshape the foldable phone market if Apple manages to bring its familiar iPhone experience into a reliable foldable design.

Apple could finally end one of the Mac’s longest-running omissions. The company is reportedly preparing its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, with new 14-inch and 16-inch models featuring OLED displays potentially arriving as early as October. The report comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who said Apple could introduce the laptops in October or November. Apple is reportedly testing the machines with macOS 27.2, adding weight to speculation that the launch could be tied to the next major software update. If the reports prove accurate, the move would represent one of the biggest changes to Apple’s MacBook design philosophy in years.
Apple may finally embrace touchscreen Macs
For years, Apple has kept touchscreens largely away from macOS laptops, instead relying on the trackpad and keyboard for interaction. That could change with the new MacBook Pro. The reported models are expected to use OLED displays with touch support, while Apple is also said to be working on a thinner design. Another possible change is replacing the current display notch with a Dynamic Island-style cutout. The touchscreen models are reportedly expected to sit above Apple's existing 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, potentially creating a new premium tier rather than immediately replacing the current range.
M5 Pro and M5 Max could power the new Macs
The biggest surprise may be that Apple could use its M5 Pro and M5 Max chips in these touchscreen models. Apple already sells MacBook Pro models with these processors. Its current 14-inch and 16-inch machines offer M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations, with up to 128GB of unified memory on certain versions. That means the reported touchscreen MacBook Pro could focus less on introducing a new processor and more on changing how users interact with the Mac. There has also been speculation about cellular connectivity, although there is currently no confirmation that the laptops will include Apple’s C1X or C2 modem.
When could Apple launch it?
The timing remains uncertain. Gurman has said the touchscreen MacBook Pro could arrive as early as October, although the launch could slip into November. Apple has not announced the product and has not confirmed any of the reported specifications. That distinction is important: the touchscreen MacBook Pro remains a reported product, not an officially announced Apple device. If Apple does launch it, however, the change could mark a new direction for the MacBook Pro bringing one of the most familiar smartphone and tablet features to Apple's flagship laptop line for the first time.

Apple is reportedly preparing to make a long-awaited push into the smart-home market, with a new home hub expected to launch on October 13 alongside refreshed versions of the HomePod mini and Apple TV. According to Bloomberg, the central product is a device internally known as J490. It would represent a new Apple product category and give the company a dedicated piece of hardware for controlling smart-home devices and bringing Siri deeper into the home. The timing is significant for Apple’s new CEO John Ternus, who has been associated with a broader push to make the company’s product development faster and more experimental.
Apple’s new smart-home hub could change Siri’s role
The reported hub is expected to have a roughly 6-inch square display, with options for wall mounting or placing it on a surface. Reports suggest Apple is designing it around an upgraded, AI-powered Siri experience. That could make the device much more than a traditional smart speaker. Reports indicate the hub could be used to control smart-home accessories, display information, make video calls, play music and show photos. It is also expected to recognise different household members and provide personalised content. Apple already uses the HomePod mini and Apple TV as home hubs for controlling compatible HomeKit and Matter accessories remotely. The new device would therefore give Apple a more visible interface for the home rather than relying primarily on an iPhone or voice commands.
HomePod mini and Apple TV are also getting updates
Apple is also expected to unveil the first HomePod mini update since its 2020 debut, along with its first new Apple TV set-top box since 2022. Reports suggest the refreshed HomePod mini and Apple TV could retain their existing designs while receiving faster processors aimed at supporting newer Siri AI features. Apple currently sells the HomePod mini in India for Rs 15,900 and the Apple TV 4K from Rs 25,900.
Why Apple’s smart-home push matters now
Apple has been present in smart homes for years through HomeKit, Home and its existing devices. But it has not had a direct equivalent to products such as Amazon’s Echo Show or Google’s Nest Hub. The reported J490 could change that. More importantly, Apple’s new AI-powered Siri could become the centre of the strategy. Apple has already said its next-generation Siri is designed to be more capable and personal, while its smart-home infrastructure can connect HomePod and Apple TV to compatible accessories. If Apple can combine that smarter assistant with a dedicated screen, home controls and access to its wider ecosystem, the company would have a new way to keep users inside Apple’s ecosystem even when they are away from their phones. For now, the October 13 launch remains based on reported information rather than an official Apple announcement. But if the reports are accurate, Apple’s next big battle may happen inside the home rather than in the smartphone market.

Apple’s new CEO John Ternus is reportedly looking to make the company move faster, with a plan to reduce management layers and potentially launch new products more frequently throughout the year. The changes, reported by Bloomberg, point to an engineering-focused approach under Ternus, who became Apple CEO on September 1 after 15 years of Tim Cook’s leadership. Apple has not publicly announced a new product launch calendar, and the reported changes remain under consideration. The biggest surprise is that a previously reported plan to cut around 5,000 AppleCare jobs has reportedly been put on hold. Smaller reductions and budget cuts could still be considered, however.
John Ternus wants a faster Apple
Ternus is reportedly reviewing how Apple develops products and makes internal decisions. One proposed change involves reducing layers of middle management. The idea would be to give engineers a more direct line to senior executives, potentially shortening the process between an idea and a final product. That would mark a notable change for a company known for tightly controlled product development. The new CEO also reportedly wants Apple to become more experimental and release products more frequently rather than relying so heavily on its familiar spring and autumn launch windows.
Could Apple start launching products all year?
If the reported strategy moves ahead, Apple could spread hardware announcements across the calendar rather than concentrating major releases around a few events. That could mean a more continuous stream of new iPhones, Macs, iPads and other devices. However, this does not mean Apple has confirmed year-round launches. They have not announced a formal change to its product-release schedule. The possible shift would instead reflect Ternus’ reported push to make product development more responsive and less dependent on long internal processes. The reported pause on the larger AppleCare reduction is significant because it suggests Ternus’ restructuring is not simply about cutting headcount. According to the Bloomberg report, Apple is looking at a broader operational overhaul involving management structures, budgets and the way teams develop products. Ternus’ engineering background is central to this approach. He joined Apple in 2001, became vice president of Hardware Engineering in 2013 and later served as senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. Apple says he has overseen hardware development across the iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch and AirPods lines.
Why this matters for Apple’s next era
The timing is important. Apple is entering the Ternus era while facing pressure to accelerate its AI strategy and find new areas of growth. Ternus inherited a company that has become significantly larger under Cook, but his background is firmly rooted in engineering and hardware. The reported restructuring suggests his approach could be less about simply making Apple smaller and more about making it faster. For consumers, the biggest potential change could eventually be simple: instead of waiting for a few major Apple events each year, new products could appear more regularly. For now, though, that remains a reported direction rather than an officially confirmed Apple strategy.

Apple has introduced the AirPods 5, bringing active noise cancellation (ANC), AI-powered Siri features and Live Translation to its open-ear wireless earbuds. Starting at Rs 14,900 in India, the new AirPods also come in a wireless charging version priced at Rs 17,900, giving buyers more choice without moving to Apple's Pro range. Apple (IN) The big question is whether the AirPods 5 can offer enough to make the AirPods Pro less appealing. Apple's latest earbuds promise better noise cancellation, improved sound and longer battery life in the wireless charging model. But their open-ear design remains a key difference from the Pro models. Here is what buyers need to know before spending money on Apple's latest earbuds.
Apple AirPods 5: What's new and how much do they cost?
Apple has launched two versions of the AirPods 5. The standard model costs Rs 14,900, while the AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case is priced at Rs 17,900 in India. Both include active noise cancellation, the H2 chip, Adaptive Audio and Transparency mode. The more expensive version adds wireless charging support, longer battery life and a new way to control volume. Users can swipe up or down on the earbud stem to adjust volume, rather than reaching for their iPhone. The charging case supports USB-C, Apple Watch chargers and Qi-compatible wireless chargers. It also includes a speaker to help users locate it through Apple's Find My network.
Can AirPods 5 really beat AirPods Pro?
The answer depends on what buyers expect from their earbuds. Apple's AirPods 5 use an open-ear design, while the AirPods Pro use silicone ear tips that create a seal inside the ear. That distinction matters. The AirPods 5 offer noise cancellation without sealing the ear canal, making them an option for people who prefer an open fit. Apple says their ANC blocks up to 50 per cent more external noise than the AirPods 4 with ANC. However, Apple's noise-cancellation figures compare the AirPods 5 with the previous open-ear model, not directly with the AirPods Pro. The claim does not establish that the AirPods 5 cancel noise better than the Pro range. For buyers who prioritise a sealed fit and noise isolation, the Pro models remain a separate option worth comparing before making a purchase.
Siri AI and Live Translation: Apple's bigger bet
The AirPods 5 are not just about music. Apple is also using them to expand its AI-powered features, with hands-free access to Siri AI and Live Translation. With a compatible iPhone, users can ask Siri open-ended questions, brainstorm and have conversations. Head gestures allow users to respond to certain Siri prompts, including nodding to accept a call or shaking their head to decline. Live Translation is another notable addition. It is designed to help users communicate across languages, although availability depends on supported languages, regions and compatible Apple devices. These features put the AirPods 5 within Apple's broader AI push. However, they are not exclusive to the wireless charging version, and some functions require a compatible iPhone and current software.
Battery life and charging: Is the Rs 3,000 premium worth it?
Battery life is one of the clearest differences between the two AirPods 5 versions. Feature AirPods 5 AirPods 5 Wireless India price ₹14,900₹17,900 ANC playback Up to 4 hoursUp to 5 hours Total ANC battery with case Up to 20 hoursUp to 22 hours Wireless charging NoYes The wireless charging model costs Rs 3,000 more, but offers an extra hour of listening time on a single charge with ANC enabled, along with wireless charging and stem-based volume controls. For users who already own wireless charging accessories, the upgrade could make everyday charging more convenient. The bottom line: Apple's AirPods 5 combine open-ear comfort, noise cancellation and AI features at a lower entry price than its Pro range. But whether they are better depends on fit, noise isolation and the features a buyer values most. They offer a different AirPods experience, not proof that the Pro models are obsolete.

Apple AirPods 5 launch in India at Rs 14,900, with the wireless charging version priced at Rs 17,900. Featuring ANC, Siri AI, Live Translation and up to 5 hours of playback, they offer an open-ear alternative to AirPods Pro.

Siri AI and Live Translation: Apple's bigger bet The AirPods 5 are not just about music. Feature AirPods 5 AirPods 5 Wireless India price ₹14,900 ₹17,900 ANC playback Up to 4 hours Up to 5 hours Total ANC battery with case Up to 20 hours Up to 22 hours Wireless charging No Yes The wireless charging model costs Rs 3,000 more, but offers an extra hour of listening time on a single charge with ANC enabled, along with wireless charging and stem-based volume controls.

Apple AirPods 5 with wireless charging? Could they really beat the AirPods Pro?

Apple has reportedly carried out another round of job cuts, making it the company's second reported layoff exercise in less than two months. According to a Bloomberg, Apple cut a handful of employees from its Fitness+ team last week. The affected workers were mainly involved in the audio side of the service, including Time to Walk and Time to Run. The move does not currently signal the end of Fitness+. However, users could see new audio content released less frequently.
Which Fitness+ jobs were affected?
Time to Walk and Time to Run are designed for Apple Watch users who want guided exercise or walking sessions without watching a video. The reported cuts appear to have hit employees involved in producing this type of audio content. Fitness+ is Apple's subscription fitness platform and competes with services such as Peloton.
Apple already cut more than 200 jobs
The latest reductions come only weeks after another reported round of layoffs at Apple. More than 200 employees were reportedly affected in August, with cuts involving teams working on Siri, Vision Pro and Intelligent Systems Experience, Apple's software engineering organisation responsible for some AI-related work. Apple said during that earlier restructuring that it was realigning some teams and that a limited number of existing positions would be affected. Apple could be preparing one of its biggest hardware shifts in years: a return to the enterprise server market, this time with AI at the centre of the strategy. According to a report by The Information, Apple is developing an AI-focused server that could use two or four future M8 Ultra chips. The machine is reportedly aimed at AI developers, businesses and governments, with a possible launch in 2029. Apple has not confirmed the project, and it could still be cancelled or changed. The reported move comes as AI companies are increasingly buying Apple's high-performance Macs to run AI workloads.
Apple’s reported M8 Ultra AI server
The proposed server would reportedly come in two configurations. One could combine two M8 Ultra chips, while a larger version could use four. The focus would be on AI inference essentially running trained AI models and generating responses rather than primarily training huge models. The project reportedly began around a year ago, when John Ternus was Apple's hardware engineering chief. Ternus became Apple CEO on September 1. The timing is significant. AI companies have reportedly been buying Mac mini and Mac Studio machines in large numbers. The Information reported that OpenAI had bought tens of thousands of them, while Anthropic has rented Mac minis through Amazon Web Services.
Why Nvidia could be part of Apple’s plan
The most surprising part of the report is that Apple is considering Nvidia's NVLink Fusion to connect its own M8 Ultra chips. NVLink Fusion includes hardware and software designed to allow processors to communicate at very high speeds inside data centres. Apple reportedly believes Nvidia's technology could offer the connectivity needed to scale multiple chips inside an AI server. The possibility is notable because Apple and Nvidia have had a strained relationship for years. Their reported discussions therefore suggest that AI infrastructure could be creating new areas of cooperation. However, Nvidia's involvement is not confirmed. Apple could proceed without the technology.
Apple’s return to servers
If launched, the machine would represent Apple's return to dedicated enterprise servers after it discontinued its Xserve line in 2011. Apple already operates servers for its Private Cloud Compute system, but those are not products sold to outside organisations. The reported M8 Ultra machine would be different: Apple would potentially sell it directly to AI developers, businesses and governments. There is also a major challenge. Enterprise customers need specialised software, remote management, developer support and long-term service. Apple would have to build much more than the hardware itself. For now, the M8 Ultra server remains a reported project rather than an announced Apple product. But if it reaches the market in 2029, Apple could find itself competing in an AI server industry dominated by companies such as Nvidia using its own silicon, and potentially Nvidia technology, to do it.

Apple is facing a deeper regulatory probe in India over its iOS 18 software warranty terms, after consumers complained about display and microphone problems following the update and costly repair bills. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) escalated the matter to its investigation wing on July 29, ordering a detailed investigation into alleged violations of consumer rights, according to documents reviewed by Reuters. The case could have consequences beyond a fine. If the regulator ultimately finds against Apple, the company could potentially be required to provide refunds or change aspects of its business practices.
What is the iOS 18 controversy?
The complaints relate to Apple's iOS 18 update, released in late 2024. The CCPA says some users reported green, pink or white lines appearing on iPhone displays after upgrading. Other complaints involved display and microphone malfunctions. The regulator alleges that consumers were then forced to pay what it described as “exorbitant amounts” for repairs or replacement screens, despite the complaints being linked to the software update. Reuters reported that servicing an iPhone 15 screen can cost about ₹27,900, or roughly $291. The CCPA says it received 75 complaints and is treating the matter as an issue affecting consumers as a class.
Apple says iOS 18 has no systemic problem
Apple is contesting the allegations. In an August 20 response to investigators, the company said iOS 18 underwent stringent testing and that it had identified no systemic issues or safety concerns with the software in India. Apple also argues that its software licence terms are standard industry practice. Its agreements state that the software is provided without a warranty, while its limited warranty generally covers hardware. The company said consumers are informed about these terms before installing the software and pointed to similar approaches used by companies including Sony and Samsung.Apple also noted that only around 11 per cent of iPhones were still running iOS 18 by June 2026.
Could Apple be forced to change its policy?
That is now the key question. The investigation will allow authorities to examine documents and hear Apple's position before a final report is prepared. Legal expert Kirti Mahapatra told Reuters that where warranty conditions are part of an alleged unfair practice, the CCPA can seek changes to how such terms are communicated. She said forcing changes to warranty terms would, however, be unprecedented. For Apple, the dispute comes at an important time in India. Its iPhone market share has grown from 4 per cent in 2022 to 9 per cent last year, according to Counterpoint Research. That makes the outcome important not just for Apple, but also for millions of Indian iPhone users who increasingly rely on software updates to keep their devices running.
