The ongoing US-Israel-Iran war has put the Middle Easter country's participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in doubt and US president Donald Trump 'doesn't care' about it. The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be played from Jun 11 to Jul 19 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Iran is scheduled to play its group-stage matches in the FIFA World Cup are against New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles, then Egypt in Seattle - both the venues being in the USA. Iran itself has casted doubt on the participation amid the ongoing tussle which has seen its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei being killed.
Trump speaks on Iran's participation in FIFA World Cup 2026
The US President was asked about Iran's chances to particiatipation in the FIFA World Cup 2026 by US-based news outlet Politico and replied: "I really don't care," adding, "I think Iran is a very badly defeated country. They're running on fumes."
After the war broke out on Saturday (Feb 28), Iran's head of football federation, Mehadi Taj, according to a BBC report citing Iranian media, had said: "With what happened... and with that attack by the United States, it is unlikely that we can look forward to the World Cup, but the sports chiefs are the ones who must decide on that."
