Notably, Vinesh usually competes in the 53kg category, however, she brought her weight down to 50kg for the showpiece event in Paris. On Day 2 of her weigh-in, the star wrestler was found weighing marginally over the permissible limit (reportedly by 400 gm).

Reportedly, Vinesh did everything she could to bring her weight within the permissible limit, however, all her efforts went in vain. The whole of India was waiting for her gold medal face-off, against the USA'sSarah Hildebrandt, after she became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final on Tuesday (Aug 6). However, fate had other plans in store.

Vinesh has been mighty impressive in Paris 2024, beatingJapanese wrestler Yui Susaki -- whonever lost a bout in her international career and is a four-time wrestling world champion. Further, she went past Ukraine'sOksana Livach to reach the semifinals, where she defeatedCuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez with ease before being disqualified for weight issues.
