The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially submitted its bid to host the 2036 Olympics on Tuesday (Nov 5) as the nation tries to get its name on the global sports map. The bid also includes intent to host the 2036 Paralympics. The IOA submitted a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Future Host Commission on October 1. "This monumental opportunity could bring substantial benefits, fostering economic growth, social progress, and youth empowerment across the country," a source told India Today.

It has not been a hidden secret that India intends to host the 2036 Olympic Games, as the IOA has been preparing for the bid for some time. In recent years, India’s bid was strengthened having hosted the International Olympic Committee (IOC) general meeting headed by Thomas Bach. India also has a strong representation on the panel, further helping its bid to host the Olympics in 2036.

As things stand, Los Angeles in the United States will host the 2028 Summer Olympics, while Brisbane in Australia will host the 2032 Games. The IOC’s rules state that no continent can host back-to-back summer Olympics, paving the way for an Asian nation to host the Games in 2036.

Asia has hosted the Summer Games four times, including the 1964 Tokyo, 1988 Seoul, 2008 Beijing, and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. If successful with the bid, India could become the first nation from South Asia to host the Summer Olympics.

"India is preparing to host the 2036 Olympics. In this regard, the input from athletes who have played in previous Olympics is significant. You all must have observed and experienced many things. We want to document this and share it with the government so that we don't miss out on any small details in the preparation for 2036," PM Narendra Modi had earlier stated.
