As KL Rahul stole a run from Shadab Khan's third ball in the eighteenth over, India completed a historic milestone against Pakistan in the World Cup as the two openers hit a century stand for the first time against their arch rival.

Even though Rahul was caught off a Riaz ball in the 24th over, he had done his job giving India a thumping opening stand of 136 runs scoring 57(3 fours and 2 sixes) in 78 balls.

Rohit Sharma at the other end was motoring along as the partnership grew, India brought up their first fifty in just 9.6 overs with Rahul contributing 14 and Rohit hitting 37. India brought up their century stand in the 18th over with Rohit Sharma contributing the lion's share scoring 60 and Rahul hitting 37.

Rahul brought up his half-century in just 69 balls, however as he was looking good, he fell to Shadab's delivery hitting a well-pitched ball to covers which landed straight in Babar Azam's hands.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and chose to field in overcast conditions.
