The T20 World Cup in the Americas seemed to have impacted the fans in the West, with the latest reports claiming that Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman, best known for his role in the Wolverine series, has named India captain Rohit Sharma his favourite cricketer. During a chat with fellow star Ryan Reynolds in a promotion event for their upcoming movie "Deadpool & Wolverine”, the Australian superstar revealed this.
During one of the YouTube shorts released by the channel (Marvel), Ryan could make out how big a cricket freak Hugh was even before he named his favourite cricketer. Upon being asked who it is, Jackman replied, “Right now? Rohit [Sharma]. You took the (World) Cup home! I'm glad. But honestly, he was a beast!” he said.

Meanwhile, the Indian veteran guided the country to its second T20 World Cup, having last won during his debut tournament in 2007 in South Africa.

This time, the 20-team tournament took place in the USA and Caribbean, with India winning undefeated.
In the grand finale against the Proteas, another unbeaten unit until then, India won the tight contest by seven runs, with Virat Kohli winning the Player of the Match award for his brilliant 76. Ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah won the Player of the Tournament award for his outstanding exploits, picking 15 wickets with an economy of just 4.18.
Even before qualifying for the semis, India faced Australia in the Super 8s and avenged their 2019 WC Final loss. Rohit Sharma scored a magnificent 92 in that marquee clash.
A Hero’s welcome in India
After being stranded in Barbados for a few days because of a hurricane warning in the region, the Indian Team landed in New Delhi during the wee hours on Thursday (July 4). The Men in Blue met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in the capital city before flying to Mumbai for a felicitation ceremony.
The BCCI arranged an open-bus victory parade for the team that concluded with a sea of fans welcoming the Rohit Sharma-led Team at the Wankhede to celebrate the World Cup triumph.
Meanwhile, right after winning the tournament, Rohit announced his decision to retire from T20Is, with veteran batter Virat Kohli and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja following the same path. Rohit continues to captain the Indian Team in the longer formats.
