The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named a star-studded 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 starting October 3 in the UAE. Batter Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team, while seasoned campaigners Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma are named on the list.
Bangladesh was supposed to host the ten-team tournament; however, following nationwide protests in August, which led to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing to India, the ICC decided against staging the T20 World Cup in the country. After considering several options, including India to host the tournament, the ICC zeroed in on the UAE as the final destination.
Bangladesh will remain the host of the Women’s T20 WC.
Here is Team India’s squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 –
Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wk), Yastika Bhatia (wk)*, Pooja Vastrakar, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Dayalan Hemalatha, Asha Sobhana, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil* and Sajana Sajeevan
Travelling Reserves: Uma Chetry (wk), Tanuja Kanwer, Saima Thakor

The apex body confirmed the UAE as the tournament host and released the revised schedule days later. Dubai and Sharjah are the two venues, with Dubai getting one semi-final (October 17) and the final (October 20), while Sharjah will host the second semis clash (October 18).
Dubai and Sharjah are allotted almost equal matches, with Team India playing three of their four group games in Dubai. India will face New Zealand in their tournament opener on October 4, while the marquee clash against Pakistan is an afternoon game on October 6.
India’s only group game in Sharjah will be against Australia on October 13.
Besides, should India qualify for the semis, they will play in Dubai.
Meanwhile, the defending champions, Australia, will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka.
Also, unlike the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where only India’s semis game had a reserve day, both semi-final matches in the Women’s T20 World Cup will have reserve days.
Group A - India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka
