Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: India to face Pakistan in marquee clash on Oct 6

Australia, the defending champions, will open their Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Sri Lanka in their tournament opener on October 5, while the recently crowned Asia Cup champions India will face New Zealand a day earlier in Dubai.

Dubai will host the marquee clash between India and Pakistan on October 6.Hosts Bangladesh will play the curtain raiser against Scotland on October 3 in Sharjah.

Earlier this month, the nationwide protests in Bangladesh led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina's government. Although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials tried convincing the apex body to keep this marquee event in the country, the ICC chose UAE as the final destination after much discussion.

The ICC unveiled the revised schedule on Monday (August 26), with Sharjah and Dubai sharing an equal number of group matches. While the top-tier Australian Team will play three of their four group fixtures in Sharjah, tournament favourites India will play three games in Dubai.

While India and Pakistan will face off in an afternoon game on October 6, England and South Africa will face off the following day in Sharjah in another heavyweight clash.

India and Australia match will take place in Sharjah on October 13.

Besides, Dubai will host one semi-final on October 17, and should India qualify, they will play their match there, while Sharjah will host the second one the next day on October 18. Dubai will host the final on October 20. However, unlike during the men’s T20 WC, where only India’s semis game had a reserve day, both semis will have a reserve day this time.

First for Dubai

Interestingly, Dubai never hosted a women’s T20I, and for all teams to acclimatise to the conditions, they will playwarm-up games from September 28 to October 3.

Ten teams are divided equally into two groups, with the top two sides from each group qualifying for the semis.

India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka are in Group A, and South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Scotland are part of Group B.
