
India’s PV Sindhu has stormed into the final of the Malaysia Open Masters after a stunning win over Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand on Saturday (May 25). In a contest that lasted 88 minutes, Sindhu came from behind to add to her impressive win record against Ongbamrungphan beating her13-21, 21-16, 21-13andwill now playinSunday’s final.She willface Wang Zhiyi of China in the final, in a bid to win her fifth Masters title and the first since the 2022 Singapore Open.

Playing her Thai opponent for the 19th time, Sindhu had lost only once in the previous 18 meetingsand broughther A game into play.After losing the first game 13-21, the double Olympic medalist won back-to-back games to register her 18th win over Ongbamrungphan.
She was pushedto the limitbutthe Indian shuttler forced her opponent into errorswhichled to her comeback into the contest.
Sindhu first opted to use her defensive game in the second gamewhichgot her back level. She had a slender lead of 11-9 at the midway point of the second game while on the backfoot.
However, once shewas donewiththe second game, Sindhu did not look back and won the third game 21-13 and booked her place in the final.
Thiswill be Sindhu’s first major final since the Spain Masters in 2023.
She will be targeting her first Masters title since the Singapore Open2022where she beat Wang Zhiyiwhoshe will play in Sunday’s final.
If she succeeds in winning the Malaysia Masters, she will add to her already impressive trophy cabinet. The 28-year-old has already won India Open, Thailand Open, Swiss Open and BWF World Tour Finals in hermajorhonours. She will also look to complete her Grand Slam of Olympic medals andwilltarget a Gold Medal at the Paris Games.
Sindhu won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio deJaneirofollowed bya bronze medal at Tokyo Games in 2021.
