Meanwhile, nearly 500 Hindus have taken shelter in Bangladesh's southeast, Reuters reported. The Hindus fear going back to Myanmar's restive Rakhine state.

Reuters sources say the government is waiting for the Supreme Court's view on an appeal filed by the home ministryto deport Rohingyas from the country.

The Centre filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on Monday asserting that the total number of "such illegal immigrants into our country" was more than 40,000, approximately.

The Indian government told the Supreme Court that it has "contemporaneous inputs from security agencies indicating links of some unauthorized Rohingyas with Pakistan terror organisations".

With Bangladesh bearing the brunt of the Rohingya crisis, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she spoke to US President Donald Trump on Monday about the Rohingyas flooding the country but the US president did not make any comment.

"He just asked how is Bangladesh? I said 'it's doing very well, but the only problem that we have is the refugees from Myanmar'," Hasina told Reuters in an interview.

"But he didn't make any comment about refugees," the Bangladesh PM added.

Aung San Suu Kyi in an interview said she is doing her best and she makes no distinction between Muslims, Hindus or Rakhines. (ANI)
