India's external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday dismissed reports that she is a contender in the presidential election as "rumours".

Asked whether she was in the fray, the external affairs minister said that the selection of candidates was an "internal matter."

"These are rumours. I am an external affairs minister and you are asking me something which is an internal matter," Sushma Swaraj told PTI.

Neither the government nor the opposition have declared their candidate presidential election to be held on July 17.

Several names, including that of Sushma Swaraj, have been doing the rounds.

While June 28 is the last day for nominations, a candidate can withdraw from the race till July 1.

Counting of votes will be held on July 20.
