Former Sri Lankan cricketer Dhammika Niroshana was shot dead at his residence on the night of July 16 (Tuesday). He was at his home in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka with his wife and children when he was tragically shot by an unidentified individual, according to reports.
No arrests have been made so far by the police as the identity and the motive of the perpetrator are currently unknown. The Sri Lankan authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to catch the assailant.

Although Niroshana's cricket career was short and not widely known, his demise has come as a shock to Sri Lankan cricket fans. His sudden death resulted in netizens flooding social media with deeply saddened reactions.
A social media user taking to X wrote "Very sad news" and "Gone too soon."
Another user commented, "Yeah, hot blood fast bowler. Played with a few guys at UOC who played in his district/provincial teams. Have heard very interesting stories. RIP!"
Niroshana, a right-arm fast bowler has a notable career in cricket. He has represented various clubs in Sri Lanka including Galle Cricket Club, Chilaw Marians, and Singha Sports Club.
Niroshana served as captain of the Sri Lankan U-19 team along with future stars like Angelo Mathews, Farveez Maharoof, and Upul Tharanga. He made his debut in the team in 2000 and playedfor two years.
Niroshana has also played over 12 first-class matches, scored more than 200 runs, and claimed 19 wickets. He also participated in eight List-A matches where he showcased his skills by scoring 48 runs and taking five wickets. His last competitive cricket match took place in December 2004, after which he retired.
