BJP's member of parliament Roopa Ganguly along with other leaders were today detained by the West Bengal Police while on their way to Basirhat which has been on the boil because of communal tensions.

Tensionin the violence-hit area ofWest Bengal's North 24 Parganas district flared up again on Thursday. Police had to lathicharge protesters who were blocking a road.

One person, who had been injured and admitted to the hospital, died after three days.

Reports said he had died in a Kolkata hospital, where he had been brought from Basirhat on Tuesday in critical condition.
