In an attempt to bolster its progressagainstOpenAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startupxAI has raised $6 billion. Not much over a year after xAI made its debut, the Series B round was announced in a blog post on May 26.
The only companies that appear to be able to compete with OpenAI in terms of creating the largest language models, or frontier models, are Google, Meta, and Amazon'sAnthropic.
With his companies, Musk has accomplished several significant milestones. For instance, he popularised electric carswith Tesla, and he created the private-sector rockets that currently rule the American market with SpaceX.
However, Musk's track record is also filled with mistakes, particularly in the area of software initiatives such as Tesla's self-driving capabilities or Twitter's venture under the name X.
Access to user data from X will be a major benefit for xAI. With real-time access to X's data, xAI may be able to enhance the news value and sophistication of its chatbot.

Alternatively, it is more likely to recirculate extreme falsehoods as gospel because ultimately the source of the information will be the posts made by users on X and they will not necessarily be true.
On Tuesday, OpenAI announced that it has started developing a new flagship AI model that will replace the GPT-4 technology that powers ChatGPT.
The San Francisco-based startup stated in a blog post that it hopes the new model would provide "the next level of capabilities" in its mission to create "artificial general intelligence," or AGI, a computer that is capable of whatever the human brain is capable of.
In addition, OpenAI said that it was forming a new Safety and Security Committee to investigate potential hazards associated with the new model and emerging technologies.
“While we are proud to build and release models that are industry-leading on both capabilities and safety, we welcome a robust debate at this important moment,” the company said in a blog post.
