A Hindu trader identified as Rakesh Kumar was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Pakistan's Balochistan on Friday (Aug 21) and police confirmed the incident late on Saturday (Aug 22). According to reports, some armed men broke into Rakesh Kumar's shop in the Qadirabad Stop area of Noshki Bazaar. When Kumar tried to resist, the men opened fire and fled. Kumar was killed on the spot. When the police received the information, they rushed to the area and took the body to the district hospital, where the victim was identified as Rakesh Kumar. A case was then registered against the unidentified armed men.

Gurpal Singh, a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly, condemned the killing and called it a cowardly act by anti-state and anti-Balochistan elements. In a statement on Saturday, he said, "The Hindu community has been an integral part of Balochistan for centuries and has repeatedly demonstrated its loyalty to Pakistan and Balochistan." The member of the provincial assembly also called on the Balochistan government and law-enforcement agencies to immediately identify and bring to justice the killers of Kumar, their facilitators and those behind the attack.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir described militants active in Balochistan as “foreign-sponsored proxies.” News agency PTI reported that, according to an official statement of the army, Munir made the remarks without naming any country while interacting with political leaders and others from Balochistan. Balochistan remains entangled in a separatist insurgency, led by outfits including the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
